The van is being loaded at APD

The APD van is being loaded up when Izzy comes out to inform them that they need to go to Dai Ellis’ house;

"He wants a quote for a job"

He wants a quote for a job.”

"He's the one with the cat. Mathew!"

Jason recalls that he is the one with the cat.

"The cat is obsessed with Jason"

Mathew explains, “The cat is obsessed with Jason!” who complains that it peed on him twice.

Izzy is highly amused

“It did worse in Eifion’s shoe,” Mathew remembers, which Jason had forgotten about.

Eifion is in an uncommonly good mood

At that moment Eifion comes round the corner, smiling broadly;  “You’d  be smiling if you had the phone call I had this morning,” he says,

"Better keep your shoes on, Eifion!"

and Jason is keen to wipe the smile off his face by informing him he is going to Cwrtmynach today, so he had better keep his shoes on.

“She can do whatever she likes in my shoes,” Eifion quips,

"Have you had a personality transplant?"

and Izzy questions whether he has had a personality transplant on this phone call.   He advises that he has won a free holiday for two in Majorca, but the others are very sceptical about this.

"I shared one of those online competitions – and I won!"

I shared one of those competitions you see online – and I won!” he laughs, and Izzy is convinced that it is a scam.   “No – they’ve e-mailed already and all I have to do is pick the dates,” he tells her.   Jason regards him as a lucky devil,

"Good things happen to those who deserve it"

and he replies, “Good things happen to those who deserve it – right, where’s the best place to buy trunks?”

"Can I hide in here for a while?"

Up in the Deri flat, Garry suddenly arrives, asking if he can hide in there for a while;  “Cassie wants help with the interviews downstairs.”

"So you don't want to do it"

Dani realises that he does not want to do it, and he argues that he has better things to do.

“Like hiding up here?” she wonders,

"I was hoping Seren would be here"

but he was hoping that Seren would be there;  she is actually at nursery, and when he asks for a cup of tea,

"You know where the kettle is, Garry"

Dani answers, “You know where the kettle is.”

"What are you having for dinner tonight?"

“What are you having for dinner tonight?” he enquires, but she protests that she has only just made breakfast.

"Seren said she misses Dadi's curry"

“Seren said the other day that she misses Dadi’s curry.”

“The one out of the jar?” Dani teases him, and he maintains that there is a technique to pouring the stuff into the saucepan, and suggests that he could make some for everyone tonight.   “Yeah, why not?   It will save me a trip to the shop,” Dani replies,

"Even Seren doesn't believe you!"

“And don’t call oven chips, ‘Dadi’s special potatoes’ – even Seren doesn’t believe you!”

"It's obvious – I've lost the café and need a job"

Kelly’s interview is under way;  “So why do you want the job?” asks Cassie, and Kelly says that it is obvious – she has lost the café and she needs a job.

"I've sort of realised I want to write again"

“To be completely honest, since losing the café, I’ve sort of realised that I want to write again,” she adds, “You know, magazines, newspapers – that kind of thing.”

"So this would only be temporary?"

Cassie maintains in that case this would only be a temporary job, but Kelly stresses that writing jobs are like gold dust;

"Who knows?   I might be here for ages"

“Who knows?   I might be here for ages.”

"What makes you think you'd be good at the job?"

“And what makes you think you’d be good at the job?” is the next question;

"I'm dead friendly and people like me"

Kelly describes herself as ‘dead friendly’, and people like her.   She likes to hear about people’s personal lives – and it is important that customers feel comfortable with the barmaid – that they do not feel judged.

"There's more to the job than that"

Cassie points out that there is more to the job than that, but Kelly has not finished yet;

"You know who does judge – and gossip – Sara!"

“You know who does judge, don’t you?   And gossip – Sara – she wouldn’t be safe somewhere like this.”

Things are still strained at Llwyncelyn

At Llwyncelyn, it is obvious that the atmosphere is still tense;  when she comes into the house Gaynor asks whether Hywel wants tuna or chicken sandwiches.

"I've already eaten"

He shuts the laptop and informs her that he has already eaten.

"I'm trying here, Hywel"

She protests that she is trying, and he snarls,

"Trying to do what?"

“Trying to do what – make up for the fact my son has turned his back on me with a tuna sandwich?”

"You promised to stop hiding things from me"

She maintains that they are both to blame, as he promised to stop hiding things from her,

"Look what happens when I do tell you things!"

and he growls, “Look what happens when I do tell you things!   Enjoy your lunch!” as he storms out of the house.

She sits down and sees . . .

She miserably sits down and looks at the paper, where she cannot help noticing a headline,

. . . Izzy outside APD

‘Great success for local business’ with a picture of Izzy in front of APD;

Gaynor groans

she groans.

Eifion says he is looking for Izzy

At APD, Eifion comes in, ostensibly looking for Izzy;  she is out for lunch, and he really wanted to talk to Mathew,

"I hope you don't want a pay rise"

who hopes he does not want a pay rise.   “I’d like to give you something –

"How would you like to come on holiday with me?"

“how would you like to come on this holiday with me?” Eifion asks, “You’ve got a couple of weeks to tell Izzy.”

"I'm still trying to prove myself here"

Mathew is reluctant to leave the business, as he is still trying to prove himself, and things are going so well at the moment;  “It’s a bit early to disappear for a week.”

"You're rejecting a free holiday?"

Eifion cannot believe that he is rejecting a free holiday, but he explains, “I’m maturing,”

"You're becoming boring!"

which his cousin takes to mean he is becoming boring.

"Don't complain when I send photos from the beach"

“Don’t complain when I send photos from the beach – in my trunks!” he gloats,

However, he looks disappointed

but does look somewhat disappointed as he leaves.

"I have a lot of experience in the hospitality sector"

Now it is Sara’s turn to be interviewed;  “As you can see, I have a lot of experience in the hospitality sector,” she says, and Cassie appears very impressed.

"You may be over-qualified"

However she suggests that Sara may possibly be over-qualified;  “I only want someone to serve behind the bar – would you be happy doing that with all your experience?”

"Please, Cassie!"

Sara emphasises that she really wants this job and begs Cassie to give it to her;  “Over the last few years, I’ve lost a business, a job I loved, a fiancé,

"I live with my ex and his new girlfriend"

and now I live with my ex and his new girlfriend.”

"Right, when can you start?"

After a moment’s consideration, Cassie asks when she can start;  “You’re the best I’ve seen, so welcome to the Deri!”   Sara is jubilant.

Izzy has plans for the window display

Outside APD, Izzy is describing her plans, that they should revamp the window, to make it more appealing to customers.

"Despite all the money I've spent on you . . ."

Then her mother approaches, realising that it is true;  “Despite all the money I’ve spent on opportunities and an education for you, you answer the phone for a building company!” she disparagingly remarks.

"She does more than that"

Mathew points out that she does more than that, but Gaynor continues, “And this is what you want to do with your life?”   Izzy describes it as not very different to what her mother wanted her to do.

"But that wasn't good enough for you!"

“No, but that wasn’t good enough for you!” Gaynor sneers;  Izzy enjoys the job and is having fun.

"Izzy's made a difference to the business already"

Mathew says she has made a difference to the business already, and Gaynor walks away.   He asks Izzy if she is all right.

"I don't think I'll ever please her – and I don't care!"

“I don’t think I’ll ever please her – and I don’t care!” she answers, “I’m enjoying myself too much to care!”

Then she discusses her ideas

then turns to her proposals for altering the window display.

Brynmor is moving into Maes-y-Deri

Brynmor is moving permanently into Maes-y-Deri, and boxes of his belongings are strewn around.   He has only one trip left to make to Brynawelon;

"They're not used to people leaving alive!"

“And I want to say goodbye to the staff – they’re not used to people leaving alive!”

"Look at this mess!   Is he a hoarder, or what?"

As he leaves, Mark is just coming in and is appalled to see what is scattered around the room;  “Mam, look at all this stuff!” he exclaims, “Is he a hoarder, or what?   There’s no room to turn round – where will Gerwyn and I hang out?”

"Hang out?   What's wrong with you?"

“Hang out?   What’s wrong with you?   You’re not teenagers!” Kath demands.

"I'm not living in a tip because you've got a fancy man!"

He complains that he does not want to live in a tip just because she has found fancy man.

She takes issue with this description, making it clear to Mark, “He’ll being my husband soon, and I’ve told you that you’re welcome to stay here –

"If you don't grow up, I might have no choice!"

“but if you don’t grow up, Mark, and accept that Brynmor lives here too, I might have no choice.”

"You can't go back on your word"

He insists that she cannot go back on her word,

"I can – I own this 'tip'"

and she reminds him, “I can – I own this ‘tip’!   You and Gerwyn will have to find somewhere else after the wedding.”

Mark is stunned

Mark is stunned.

"What are you still doing here, Eifion?"

Jason tells Eifion, “What are you still doing here?   I said you could go home.”

"Pint in the Deri later?"

Eifion proposes to see him for a pint in the Deri, but Jason will have to check with the boss first;

"I shall be stuck between my girlfriend and my ex"

he predicts he will be stuck between his girlfriend and his ex, trying to watch telly tonight.

“I don’t know how I do it,” he grumbles, “How do I get myself in these situations?   And it to make things worse, they’re both being interviewed for the same job in the Deri today.”

"How does a free week in Majorca sound?"

Eifion diagnoses that he needs a holiday, and wonders how a free week in Majorca sounds, maintaining that they would have fun.

"Have you seen Kelly when she's angry?"

“The problem is Kelly – I don’t think she’d be happy if I left her with Sara for a week – do you?   Have you seen Kelly when she’s angry?

"Thanks for the offer – but no"

“Thanks for the offer, Eifion, but I’d better say no.”

Eifion has been turned down again

Eifion trudges off in the direction of the Deri.

Garry is in full chef's regalia

When Dani walks into the Deri flat, she bursts out laughing at the sight of Garry;  “No, if I do something, I do it properly!” he insists.   She doubts that they will be having curry from scratch tonight,

"Chefs never share their secrets"

and, brandishing his jar of curry sauce, he informs her, “Chefs never share their secrets.   If I remember rightly, I cooked you a few meals wearing this hat.”

"And not wearing much else, actually!"

She remembers it well, “And not much else, actually,” she comments.

Dylan arrives with flowers

Then Dylan interrupts this private little joke;  he has brought some flowers for Dani.

"Garry is proving to everyone that he's a chef"

“Garry is proving to everyone that he’s a chef,” says Dani.

“Just a little something to lift your spirits,” Dylan tells her, and she reassures him that she is feeling better today.

"Judging by the smell, I'd say you're OK"

“I was going to ask if you wanted food from Tapas – but judging from the lovely smell, I’d say you’re OK.”

"There's enough food for everyone"

Garry magnanimously points out that there is enough food for everyone, but Dylan takes his leave,

"Enjoy yourselves"

putting down the flowers and telling them to enjoy themselves.

"He hasn't been here for a while"

“Awkward!” remarks Garry, “He hasn’t been here for a while,”

"Until things improve with Seren"

and Dani replies that he is staying away until things improve with Seren.   “I’m glad he understands who the boss is,” says Garry.

"Haven't you got a curry to cook?"

She reprimands him, “Haven’t you got a curry to cook?”

"You've got to be kidding me!"

Kelly has received a disappointing phone call;  “Don’t say you've given it to . . .   You’ve got to be kidding me!”

"To be honest, my heart wasn't in it"

Then, as Sara comes in through the door, she adds, “Thank you for letting me know, Cas – to be honest, my heart wasn’t really in it, was it, you know?”

Sara is full of herself

Sara smirks with the satisfaction as Kelly congratulates her;  “I wanted to tell you myself, but Cassie insisted that she did, after sorting the paperwork,” boasts Sara,

"You don't have to pretend, Kelly"

“You don’t have to pretend, Kelly – the fact that you didn’t get the job is bad enough – not to mention that I got it!”

"I'm fine"

Kelly is putting on a brave face, and maintains that she is fine, but Sara insists on rubbing it in;  “I was thinking of opening a bottle of bubbles to celebrate – do you want a glass?”

"You haven't won the Lottery, mind"

Kelly points out, “You’ll be serving pints in the Deri – you haven’t won the Lottery, mind.”   Sara patronisingly tells her that she will find something,

Kelly takes out her anger on the cushion

and Kelly violently punches the cushion.

Mark looks at a photo of Brynmor

Amid all the clutter at Maes-y-Deri, Mark looks at a photo of Brynmor,

Mark has bad news for Gerwyn

then sits down as Gerwyn comes into the house.   “You won’t be happy when you hear what I’ve got to say,” Mark warns, “Mam wants us out!”

"She wants some 'alone time', does she?"

Gerwyn presumes that he just means tonight, so she can have some ‘alone time’,

"She wants us to move out after the wedding"

but Mark goes on, “No, she wants us to move out after the wedding.”

Gerwyn says that it is only to be expected, as they want some privacy;

"Do you really want to live with your mother and her new husband?"

“Do you really want to live with your mother and her new husband?”

"But this is my home!"

Mark insists that this is his home.

"There are some nice flats on the Tomos ac Ellis website"

“I know starting over is scary,” Gerwyn appreciates, “But it might be time for you to move out – there are some nice flats on the Tomos ac Ellis website – it could be fun!”

Kelly is reclining

Kelly is reclining on the sofa when Jason comes back to Llwyncelyn;

"She's celebrating her brand-new job!"

“Sara and Ifan have gone out to celebrate her brand-new job!” Kelly moans.   He is disappointed to hear that Kelly did not get the job.

"What's wrong with me, Jase?"

“What’s wrong with me, Jase?   I can’t even get a job as a barmaid, like,” she groans,

"You're too good for that place!"

but he maintains that he is glad she did not get it, stressing that she is too good for that place.

"You should be creative"

“A creative and talented person like you shouldn’t waste any time pulling pints for Mark Jones at the Deri,” he insists, “You should write, create, be creative,”

"But there are no jobs out there"

but she argues there are no jobs out there.

“Since when have you let something like that worry you?” Jason demands,

"Tell the Western Post they need you back!"

“You should contact the Western Post for a start – remind them that you’re still around, and they need you back.   What have you got ready to go?”

"The lockdown diary about losing a business during Covid"

Kelly replies, “My stuff on bulimia, the blog, the lockdown diary about losing a business during Covid.”   He points out that they are things affecting a lot of people, and she adds, “I have written something on gambling addiction – would you mind if I sent that in?   I obviously won’t name you.”

"Anything I can do to help, Kelly"

He has no objection, but encourages her to go ahead with it;  “Anything I can do to help!”

"You're amazing, Jase!"

She says that he is amazing,

"Yes, a few other people have mentioned that"

and he admits that a few people have mentioned that, wondering whether she fancies going to the Deri.

Kelly’s mind is made up;  “No way – I’m not going to the Deri any more!” she declares, but then tempers that determination,

"OK, I'm not going tonight"

“OK, I’m not going tonight – there are cans in the fridge.”

Dani is visiting next door

Dani arrives at Hywel’s house to see Dylan, who was not expecting to see her again tonight.   He asks about the curry, and she describes it as, “Not special – Seren wanted it, not me.

"I haven't seen you much lately – I miss you"

I haven’t seen you much lately – I miss you.”

"Me – or the meatballs from Tapas?"

Dylan looks rather uncomfortable;  “Me – or the meatballs from Tapas?” he enquires.

"I haven't come over here for food, Dylan"

She laughs and advises him, “I haven’t come over here for food, Dylan.”   She moves closer to him,

"I don't think it's a good idea"

and he backs away, maintaining that he does not think it is a good idea;  he wants to, but points out they are having a baby.

"Yes, I know that!"

Dani was already well aware of that,

"You need time with Seren – and Garry"

and he insists that she needs space, time with Seren – and Garry;  “I want to do this right.”

"Sorry – I shouldn't have come over"

Dani feels rather awkward and apologises for coming over, before rapidly escaping out of the door.

Now Eifion wants John Deri Fawr to go with him

In the Deri, Eifion is trying to persuade John, his employer, to accompany him to Majorca;  “I’m sure we can find someone to look after the farm for a week.   Oh, suit yourself, then”

"Doesn't anyone want to go on holiday with you?"

Izzy taunts him, “Doesn’t anyone want to go on holiday with you?” but he says he has not asked many people.

"I'm a bit upset, to be honest"

“Everyone at work – except me,” she snaps, “I’m a bit upset, to be honest.”

She suggests she could put up a poster, asking people to put their names down, but he does not want to go with just anyone;  “What if it was Megan?” he protests, but she says he could pick the best person on the list.

"I'm not that desperate"

However he does not consider himself that desperate.

Garry was not expecting Dani back so early;

"Aren't there many people downstairs?"

“Aren’t there many people downstairs?” he asks.   She informs him that she has been for a walk to get some fresh air.

"This astronaut plants a lot of potatoes in space"

A film has just started, about an astronaut who is stuck in space, and has planted a lot of potatoes.

He thinks that it is about time he left, but she urges him to stay for the film;

"You want to know what happens to the potatoes, don't you?"

“You want to know what happens to the potatoes, don’t you?”

Dani looks undecided . . .

A puzzled look comes over her face, as if she cannot make up her mind,

. . . but Garry thinks he is one up on Dylan

but Garry appears very pleased with himself.
