Iolo is brooding agan

Iolo is sitting thoughtfully on the sofa when Garry comes downstairs;  

"Not this again!   You're going!"

“You’re still here!” he says, and Iolo does not know if he can go.   “Not this again!” growls Garry, “You’re going – and that’s the end of it.   You could get good news.”

"What if the treatment was a waste of tine?"

“And I could get bad news – what if the treatment was a waste of time?” Iolo whines;  

"You won't find out by sitting here!"

Garry forcefully informs him that he will not find out by sitting there, and asks who is taking him, expecting it to be his father.   “No-one,” says Iolo and Garry is quite willing to go with him;  

"This is something I have to do on my own"

“This is something I have to do on my own,” he says.

“I’m not going to say everything will be OK, because I don’t know,” Garry points out, 

"You can't hide here – and you're in the way!"

“But you can’t hide here – you’re going to miss your appointment – and you’re in the way!   Now, go!”

Gaynor returns home

Gaynor returns home to Llwyncelyn, where Hywel is working on the laptop;  “I’ve just seen Dylan,” she tells him, 

"Dylan says Rhys is feeling better"

“He wants you to know that Rhys is feeling better – he said Rhys has been feeling low.”   

Hywel is pleased to hear that;  he had a word with him, 

"He's missing the gym"

and maintains that his son is missing the gym.   “Poor thing,” Gaynor sympathises, “He’s had a tough time with everything – why didn’t you say anything?”

Hywel says that he struggled to get a word out of Rhys;  “He can be so private,” 

"No, Gaynor, I've spoken to him"

and she thinks that she might have been able to help, but he makes it clear that he has dealt with the matter.

Siôn has more ideas for the bookshop

In the bookshop, Siôn suggests they could put a couple of tables by the window, so people can have a cup of tea while they browse.   

"We could have a magazine rack"

“We could have a magazine rack,” says Tesni, and he would rather see a shelf full of 20th century poets;  “Are there enough to fill a shelf?’ she wonders.

Kath comes in

Then Kath comes wandering into the shop, commenting, “Goodness, this is different.”   

"We haven't finished yet, Kath"

Siôn points out they have not finished yet.   “But you’ll be getting more books?” she asks, and when Tesni mentions cups of tea, Kath would welcome some cakes as well.

"Brynmor loves to read"

“While I’m here, I might as well buy something for Brynmor – he loves to read,” she says, while in the background, we see that some of the local inhabitants are ignoring the two-metre rule.   “He reads to me in bed sometimes,” she adds, “Are there any raunchy Welsh books, then?”

"There my be  few chapters"

Siôn replies that there may be a a few chapters in some novels, but she wants books like Cassie writes;  “There’s an idea for you – why don’t you translate Cassie’s stuff into Welsh?”   

Siôn would prefer to create more original material in Welsh, 

"Filthy original in Welsh!"

and she maintains that would be the perfect answer;  “Filthy original material in Welsh!   You’d make a fortune, John.”

"I'm sure we can find something suitable"

Tesni does her best to change the subject, sure that she can find something suitable for Kath,   

"That's your speciality!"

and is told that she should give Siôn some tips;  “That’s your speciality!” Kath says, suggestively.    

Siôn has had enough of this

Siôn does not want any more of this discussion, but Tesni is smirking.

Tyler arrives at number 7

Garry again comes downstairs in number 7;  there is a knock at the door, and when he sees that it is Tyler, 

"He's at the hospital"

Garry informs him, “He’s not here – he’s at the hospital – an appointment with the specialist.”   

"Would you mind if I came in to wait?"

Tyler asks if Garry would mind if he waited for him to return, 

"Yes!"

and is told, “Yes!   Iolo wouldn’t want to see you here!”   When Tyler says he will phone Iolo instead, Garry adds, “I’m sure he’ll answer!” and closes the door.

Rhys comes to Llwyncelyn 

Rhys has gone to Llwyncelyn, but Gaynor apologises that his father is not there;  

"I'm happy to see you, anyway"

“I’m happy to see you, anyway,” and he assumes that Hywel has told her.   “Yes, how are you feeling?” she asks, 

"I'm better than when I spoke to him"

and the answer is that he is better than when he last spoke to his father.

"Losing a business is never easy"

“Losing a business is never easy,” she agrees, but he insists that losing Ffion is a lot worse.   Gaynor is puzzled by this, and he says he cannot understand why she turned her back on what they had.   “When was this?” Gaynor enquires.

"We weren't together, but we had an arrangement"

“A couple of weeks ago – we weren’t together, but we had an arrangement – we were more than friends,” he explains.   

"So you know she's pregnant?"

Gaynor assumes he is aware that Ffion is pregnant, but Rhys looks at her with utter astonishment;  

"So that's why she finished things!"

“That’s why she finished things!” he realises, before rushing out of the house, slamming the door behind him.

Aaron is at number 7

Aaron is sitting on the sofa in number 7, and Garry was under the impression he was going home today.   “I can’t do it,” says Aaron.   

"You can't sulk about it for ever"

Garry knows that he has had a shock, but he cannot sulk about it for ever.   

"Colin went behind our backs!"

“It’s more than shock – Colin went behind our backs!” Aaron moans.

"No-one is perfect"

“I know you think a lot of Colin – for some reason – but no-one is perfect!” Garry stresses, “We all make mistakes.”   

"Why didn't he just admit it?"

Aaron demands why Colin did not just admit it, 

"Like you do, when you do something wrong?"

and is told, “Like you do, when you do something wrong, is it?   Listen, your mother has forgiven him, and she married him – because Colin makes her happy.”

Aaron snarls that he does not deserve her, 

"Go home and keep tabs on me"

and Garry reminds him, “Even more of a reason to go home and keep tabs on him!”

Tyler's mind is elsewhere

Up in the Deri flat, Tyler is deep in thought;  he does not hear Dani when she suggests a takeaway tonight.   

"He didn't even tell me, Dan"

“He’s seeing a specialist today – and he didn’t even tell me,” he groans.   She reminds him of the fact that they are not together any more, so he does not have to say anything.

“I’m sure Garry’s turning him against me,” Tyler continues, “Everything changed when he stuck his nose in.”   

"You're being paranoid, Tyler"

She accuses him of being paranoid, and he says, “Why else would he keep things from me?   I know, I know – we’re not together any more.   He still means so much to me, Dan.”

"You've got five minutes"

Rhys arrives at Cysgod y Glyn and is told that he has five minutes, as Ffion is busy;  

"I know – about the baby!"

“I know – about the baby!” he announces, 

Ffion tries to stay calm

as she ties up the food recycling bag.   

"I understand now – but you're not on your own"

“I understand now what you shut me out of everything – but you’re you’re not on your own.   

"I want to face my responsibilities"

“I want to face my responsibilities.”

"It's not that simple, Rhys"

Ffion replies that it is not that simple, but he is adamant that this is what they needed;  

"A baby can save a relationship"

“A baby can save a relationship – sorry, I don’t want to put pressure on you,” he goes on, as he holds her hands, “We can take this one step at a time.   

"How far gone are you?"

“Are you feeling all right?   How far gone are you?   You can find out with a test now – or you can see a doctor.”

"There is no baby"

“It’s too late,” Ffion tells him, “There is no baby – I’ve had an abortion.”   

"I'm sorry"

He is speechless and turns to leave as she tells him she is sorry.   

"Without telling me!   I was the father!"

“Without telling me!   I was the father!” he shouts, “Did Dad know?”   

Rhys walks out of the flat

Ffion does not answer this, and he walks out of the flat.

"You're welcome to borrow any of the books"

As Tesni closes the shop, Siôn tells her she is welcome to borrow any of the books;  

"It's in the boys' blood"

“I’m just happy to share my passion with someone who understands – none of the boys have shown any interest in literature, and it’s in their blood.”

"I should be interested in cooking or cars, then"

In that case, Tesni thinks that she should be interested in cooking or cars;  “If it’s in our blood – because young people can’t choose and develop their interests, can they?   

"If all we do is follow our fathers"

“No-one will evolve if all we do is follow our fathers.”   Siôn realises she is right and apologises for saying it.

"Did you consider going to university?"

“You’re very bright, you know?   Did you consider going to university?” he asks, and she wonders if that is what people who are bright have to do.   He points out that it does help to broaden your horizons.

“I prefer to make money than get into debt,” she informs him, but he maintains that is more to life than money.   

"It's easy for a shop owner to say that!"

“It’s easy for a shop owner to say that, isn’t it?” she comments as she leaves.

Iolo comes into the Deri with a smile on his face

In the Deri, Dani is working on the laptop when Iolo comes in, looking happy.   

"I'm here to meet Dad"

Surprisingly there are actually two other customers there.   Dani advises that Tyler is upstairs, but Iolo is there to meet his father.

"Tyler didn't get much of a welcome from Garry"

“He came over to see you, but he didn’t get much of a welcome from Garry,” she goes on, “He still loves you, Iolo – and worries about you.”   

"I haven't changed my mind, Dan"

He says he will have a word with Tyler, but stresses that he has not changed his mind.

Then she asks how the landlord is behaving, and Iolo replies, “He’s great – he looks after me without making too much of a fuss.”   

"Are we talking about the same Garry Monk?"

Dani cannot believe that they are talking about the same Garry Monk.   “He’s made a few meals, and he picks up my prescription from the chemist.”

Dani is glad that he has made a good husband for someone, and Iolo has found that the biggest shock is that he actually enjoys Garry’s company.   She remembers that he used to play tricks on Gwern;  “Salt instead of sugar – hiding behind doors and jumping out – Gwern wasn’t impressed, so watch out!”

"Are you all right, Iolo?"

Siôn comes hurrying in;  “Your message sounded serious – are you all right?” he demands.   

"I don't need further treatment"

“I’ve just been to see the specialist to get the results – I don’t need further treatment,” Iolo tells him, and Siôn is overjoyed that there will be no chemo or radiotherapy.   

Siôn is almost in tears

He is almost in tears of relief, and Iolo says, 

"We've come through it, Dad!"

“We’ve come through it, Dad – we’ve won!   Now I think we deserve a drink.”

"I've been looking for you!"

Rhys marches into Llwyncelyn to confront his father;  “I’ve been looking for you!” he snarls, and Hywel says that he forgot his phone.   

"Did you know she was pregnant?"

“When I opened my heart to you about Ffion, did you know she was pregnant?”

"I didn't know you were the father"

Hywel explains that when he heard he did not know that Rhys was the father;  “I found out when you said you’d been seeing each other.”

"Whatever you said made her have an abortion!"

“So what did you say to her?” Rhys demands, “Because whatever you said has made her have an abortion!”   

"That was her decision"

Hywel maintains that he did not say anything, but it was her decision.

“And you didn’t try to stop her?” Rhys exclaims, and his father asks if he has to be honest.   

"If you can remember how to be honest!"

“If you can remember how!” Rhys sneers.

"Tie yourself to someone like Ffion for ever"

“I hated to think that you would tie yourself to someone like FF for ever,” Hywel says.   

Rhys cannot believe that his father let Ffion get rid of his grandson, or granddaughter;  

"You didn't want me, either"

“You haven’t changed at all!   You didn’t want me either!” 

"I only want what's best for you"

but his father argues that he only wants what is best for his son.

"You obviously don't want me to be happy!"

“You obviously don’t want me to be happy – not with Ffion, anyway!   You’ve never been able to let her go, have you?   Just want to keep her to yourself – 

"In case you fancy another 'go'!"

“just in case you fancy another ‘go’!”

"The abortion was Ffion's idea"

Hywel insists that the abortion was Ffion’s idea;  “But you didn’t try to stop her, or give me a chance to, either!” Rhys yells, 

"I'm not going to be a father, thanks to you!"

“I’m not going to be a father – thanks to you.   

"You're not a father to me, either!"

“And from now on, you’re not a father to me, either!”

"Champagne – or a cup of tea?"

Garry is filling the kettle when Iolo comes back;  “Are you ready for champagne – or a cup of tea?” Garry enquires.   

"The difference between salt and sugar"

Iolo answers that he will make it;  “Dani has told me you struggle to tell the difference between salt and sugar!”   Garry recalls that it used to drive Gwern mad.

"Why were you discussing me, then?"

“What were you and Dani doing discussing me, then?” Garry wants to know;  Iolo was telling her how well Garry has been looking after him.   “You haven’t told everyone, I hope – 

"I don't want people thinking I've gone soft"

“I don’t want people thinking I’ve gone soft,” Garry warns him, and he says that Dani was impressed.

"That will be Tyler"

Then there is a knock at the door, which Iolo predicts will be Tyler;  “Do you want me to tell him where to go?” volunteers Garry, but his offer is declined, 

"I'll go for a pint"

so he will go to the Deri, out of their way.

"How did it go at the hospital?"

Tyler wants to know how it went at the hospital, and is told that it was good news;  “I don’t need any further treatment,” which Tyler regards as great.   

"Why didn't you tell me about the appointment?"

He asks why he was not told about the appointment today, 

"Because I don't have to"

and Iolo answers, “Because I don’t have to.”

Tyler emphasises that Iolo is the father of his child, and he has been helping him through this;  “You not wanting me doesn’t change that.”

Iolo acknowledges that after he has put Tyler through so much over the last few months, he did not think it was fair to make him worry.   

"I want to be there for you, Iol"

Tyler replies that he does worry and wants to be there for Iolo.

Iolo agrees that he has been;  

"But it's over, Ty"

“But it’s over now, Ty – that’s all that matters, isn’t it?”

A comprehensive order from Cwm Delhi 

Britt is writing out her order for Cwm Delhi;  “Four poppadoms, all the dips, onion bhaji, chicken tikka masala, prawn biryani and chips.”   Colin thinks it advisable that they should order six poppadoms, 

"Just in case Aaron comes back"

just in case Aaron comes back.   

And he does come back

At that moment he does so and is told that they are having an Indian.    

"I should have sorted things out sensibly"

Britt apologises for the way she handled things;  “I should have sorted things out sensibly, and not caused a big scene at the wedding.”   

"I was rather dramatic as well"

Aaron admits that he was rather dramatic as well, and she asks, “Are we friends?”

"If you order enough poppadoms"

“Mam, if you order enough poppadoms, then yes!” Aaron replies, and she is grateful that she does not have to organise a divorce;  “No – not yet!” he ominously adds.

Off she goes to Cwm Delhi 

She leaves to order this meal, and Colin says that, to make sure, they ordered six, 

"We were hoping you'd come home"

hoping that he would come home – plus all the dips.

"Shut up, Colin . . ."

“Shut up, Colin!” Aaron instructs him, “I’m not here to play happy families.   

". . . you're going to pay for what you've done!"

“I’m here to make sure you pay for what you’ve done!”   

Colin does not like the sound of this

Colin is very shocked.

"You can't keep your mouth shut!"

At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor comes in through the front door and Hywel immediately snarls at her, “You can’t keep your mouth shut!”   

"And you're still lying!"

She is equally angry, demanding how he thinks she felt to find out he was still lying.

"So this is revenge, is it?'

“So this is revenge, is it?” he asks, and she insists that Rhys has a right to know he is going to be a father.   

"There is no baby!"

He enlightens her, “There’s no baby, Gaynor – Ffion’s had an abortion!   If you hadn’t stuck your nose in and been so bitter and childish, Rhys would be none the wiser.”

"And if you'd been honest!"

“And if you’d been honest . . .” she begins, but he shouts that she has proved he cannot trust her.

"He'll never forgive me!"

“Thanks to you, Rhys blames me for everything – he’ll never forgive me!”   Hywel storms out of the house.

"I'll never forget everything you did"

Iolo will never forget everything that Tyler did, and is extremely grateful.   

"What next, then?"

Tyler wonders what will be next;  “Climbing Everest – jumping out of a plane?” 

"I'll be happy to get back to normal life"

but Iolo will just be happy to get back to normal life.   “We should take Greta out to celebrate as a family,” Tyler suggests, “We could go to that pancake place again.”

"I don't think they'll let us in again"

Iolo doubts that they would let them in, after the last time;  apparently he had said he would never eat pancakes with cheese.   “I live on them now!” Iolo declares, “People are allowed to change their minds.”   

Tyler is hoping for a 'change of mind'

It is evident what ‘change of mind’ Tyler is thinking about.

He is about to leave

Now he will go, and as he reaches the door, 

"Thanks again, Ty"

Iolo thanks him once again.
