"Yes, Ffion, I'll tell her"

Ffion contacts Llwyncelyn with the information that she will not be at school today;  “Don’t worry, I’ll tell her,” says Hywel.

He informs Gaynor, 

"If she's been drinking"

who growls, “That’s for the best I suppose, if she’s been drinking!” but Hywel is worried because she did not sound special.   

“What am I supposed to do?” Gaynor snarls;  

"I'll see what state she's in"

Hywel will take back the laptop and see what state Ffion is in.   

"She's barely been sober for a year!"

The only comment Gaynor makes is, “You need the patience of a saint – she’s barely been sober for a year!” and off she goes to school.

"Clear this place up, Mark!"

At Maes-y-Deri, Kath instructs Mark to clear the place up, and he suggests that it is time for her to go to work;  “I’m not going to work – I’m expecting Brynmor,” she replies.

"What, at this time of the morning?"

“What, at this time of the morning?” Mark demands, and she is furious, thinking of Brynmor alone at Brynawelon.   “I like watching TV after finishing my shift,” he complains, and she points out that no-one is stopping him;  

"We want peace and quiet to talk about the wedding"

all they want is peace and quiet to talk about the wedding.   

"Which magazine is paying for the exclusive pictures?"

“Which magazine is going to pay for the exclusive pictures?” he wonders, as there is a knock at the door.

"How are you all this morning?"

“Good morning, and how are you all this morning?” says Brynmor;  she replies that she is all the better for seeing him, 

Mark appears to feel like throwing up

while Mark in the kitchen appears to be nauseated by this.   His mother asks him to make a cup of coffee for Brynmor, with semi-skimmed milk and no sugar.   He informs his mother that there is no semi-skimmed, but she knows very well that there is.

"Sorry, it's self-service today"

“Sorry, but it’s self-service today,” Mark advises Brynmor, “I’ve got a window cleaning job – Tyler’s looking after Iolo.”   

"If you didn't run away, you could be friends"

His mother whispers to him that if he did not run away every time Brynmor came, they could be friends.   “I’m too young to play dominoes and bowls!” is Mark’s retort, and he leaves the house.

Iolo is home after his operation

Iolo has just been brought home by Garry to number 7;  Tyler welcomes him home and has made him a healthy breakfast.   

"Full English – that's what you need"

“He’s had breakfast, thanks,” Garry tells him, “Full English – that’s what you need for a speedy recovery!”

Tyler is of the opinion that he needs fibre and fresh fruit;  Garry sneers, “Fibre!   Remind me never to ask you to nurse me if I’m ill.”   

"There are a lot of cards"

There are several get well cards waiting for Iolo, and Garry complains that they are put up everywhere;  

"It's not his birthday, you know"

“It’s not his birthday, you know.”   

Tyler points out that it is important to create a happy environment;  

"He's trying to push me out"

“I know what he’s doing,” he tells Iolo, “Trying to push me out, so he’s the only one you need.   Why didn’t he phone me as soon as you got out of theatre?”

"His father needed to know – not his ex!"

Garry answers that Siôn was the first person who needed to know how he was after his operation, “Not his ex!   Now grow up!”   

Iolo is tired of this bickering

Iolo shuts the door and looks angrily at Tyler;  

"Forget him – let's have a cup of tea"

“Forget about him – let’s have a cup of tea,” he says.

At first, Hywel cannot gain entry to Cysgod y Glyn 

Hywel is outside the door of Cysgod y Glyn, and Ffion tells him to leave the laptop on the doorstep;  “No, I’m not going to do that – I want to talk to you about a few things face-to-face,” he says.   She maintains that she is on her way back to bed, but he points out he will only be two minutes.

“Just leave it there – what’s the problem?” she demands, 

"I'm not leaving until you let me in!"

and he emphasises that he is not leaving until she lets him in and tells him what is wrong with her.   

Then Ffion relents

As a car drives along the street, we can see that he is admitted to the house.

Jaclyn comes along the road . . .

Jaclyn looks at the flowers outside the shop, 

. . . being watched by Garry

and is being watched by Garry, standing outside the Deri, drinking a cup of coffee;  

"How do you think we'll cope without her?"

“How do you think we’ll cope without her?” he asks Cassie.   She replies that Anita has offered to do her shifts while she is at Penrhewl, if that is all right with him.

"She said it was nothing to do with you"

“Did she say why she’s cut her shifts?” he adds, and Cassie says that Jaclyn insisted it was nothing to do with him;  

"She's running away from me"

“She’s running away from me – that’s what she’s doing,” he confidently asserts.

"You'd better check to make sure your work's there"

Ffion thanks Hywel for repairing the laptop so quickly, and he advises her to check to make sure her work is still there.   

"I'll do some work when my stomach settles down"

She has every confidence in him;  “I’ll do some work when my stomach settles down.”

“It will work its way out of your system quickly enough,” he says, 

"Is there anything else you want to tell me?"

“Is there anything else you want to tell me?   Gaynor mentioned that you haven’t been yourself for a while.”   

"We've all been stressed out at school"

Ffion explains they have all been stressed out at school.

"Are you drinking again?"

Then Hywel gets to the point;  “Are you drinking again?   If you are, I can help.”   

"I haven't touched a drop for a year or more!"

She realises that is why he came there, and shouts that she has not touched a drop for a year or more.   

"Look through the cupboards if you don't believe me!"

She invites him to go through the cupboards if he does not believe her, but he points out that she is an expert at hiding alcohol.

“Can you phone a counsellor?” he urges, 

"I'm not drinking, Hywel!

but again she insists she is not drinking, and again he does not believe her, getting out his phone and predicting that she will thank him in a few weeks.   

"I'm phoning Siôn to pick up Arwen"

“I’m phoning Siôn to come and pick up Arwen – you’re going to the doctor!”

"I'm pregnant – that's what's wrong with me!"

Ffion has no choice but to reveal the truth, “I’m pregnant!   That’s what’s wrong with me.”   Hywel is extremely shocked, 

"Happy now?"

as she goes on, “Are you happy now?”

Kath has exotic aspirations

At Maes-y-Deri, Kath’s aspirations are for a horse and carriage, and Brynmor asks Mark if he would like to escort his mother in such transport.   “Do you think we’re common?” is the angry reply, 

"How about a stretched limo, Mark?|

so Brynmor suggests a stretched limo, and Mark walks out of the back door.

"I don't know what I've done to upset him"

“I’d like to know what I’ve done to upset him,” Brynmor worries, “And how to make things right.”   

"Forget about Mark"

Kath wants him to forget about Mark and to concentrate on them;  

"I want it to be a happy occasion"

“But I want this wedding to be a happy occasion for the whole family,” he says.

Kath predicts, “If there’s a top hat and tails, Mark will be the first there,” and Brynmor hopes that she is right.

"You'll only see cattle and sheep there"

Garry arrives at number 10, where Jaclyn is preparing to go to work at Penrhewl;  “You’ll only see cattle and sheep there,” he says, but she answers that she is doing it to please herself.

"Am I the problem?"

“I had to hear from Cassie that you’re doing fewer shifts at the Deri – am I the problem?” he enquires, but she points out that everything does not revolve around him.   

"An opportunity to be creative"

“Eileen offered me a part in this exciting new business – I would have been stupid to refuse.   An opportunity to be creative.”   

"I'm sorry if I upset you"

He is still convinced that this is about the other day, and is sorry if he upset her.   “I can live without you, you know!” she snaps.

"You'll always mean something to me"

“You’ll always mean something to me,” he informs her, 

"Yes, Garry, I know where I stand"

but she is well aware of where she stands.   

"Please let me explain myself better"

“Jac, please let me explain myself better,” he urges her.

"This isn't another of your tricks, is it?"

At Cysgod y Glyn, Hywel is trying to come to terms with the news and asks Ffion if this is another of her tricks to pretend that she is not drinking again.   

"Show a little respect!"

“Pretending I’m pregnant – show a little respect!” she growls at him, “I know the truth – I don’t care if you believe me.”

"Who's the father, then?"

He asks who is the father, 

"There is no father, if he doesn't know about it"

and her answer is, “There is no father if he doesn’t know about it.”   Hywel stresses that the father has rights, 

"Made a career of jumping from one bed to another!"

but she reminds him, “I don’t want a lecture from someone who’s made a career of jumping from one bed to another!   

"Not a word to anyone – understand?"

“Not a word to anyone –    understand?”

"You shouldn't be on your feet already"

Siôn visits his son and demands what he is doing on his feet already;  “No-one’s happier to see you than me, but it’s too early to be on your own.”   Iolo says that he could not ask Garry not to work, 

"I sent Tyler shopping, to get some peace"

and has sent Tyler to do some shopping, to get some peace.   He just wanted an hour on his own.

"How are you, Iolo?"

Siôn asks how he is, not wanting him to put on an act, but to tell the truth;  

"Garry and Tyler fall out every five minutes!"

“I’m tired, sore, fed up – I don’t really know what to do.   I’m worried that the cancer is still there – and it doesn’t help that Garry and Tyler fall out every five minutes!   

"There's nothing I can do now"

“But, there we are – there’s nothing I can do now, is there?   Just hope for the all clear.”

"I prayed for you during the operation"

“I prayed for you, you know,” says Siôn, “During the operation – there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to make you better.”   

Iolo smiles

At least, this makes Iolo smile.

"It's never easy to end a relationship like ours"

“It’s never easy to end a relationship like we had,” Garry explains, “I’m sorry if I didn’t do a good job – my head’s all over the place.   

He lists his convoluted problems

“Having to deal with the fact that my wife, who’s kicked me out, is having a baby with the bloke who tried to kill me – who is also the brother of the woman I had an affair with.   

"It's a bit complicated"

“It’s a bit complicated.”

"You've done me a favour"

Jaclyn maintain they do not need to talk about this, but says that Garry  has done her a favour;  “I started a relationship with Ger and had the children so young, so I’ve always had to put other people first.   But now I’m free!”

"That's a bit selfish"

Garry regards that as a bit selfish, and she counters with, “Well, I must have learned something from you.   

"You're welcome to replace me"

“Listen, you’re welcome to replace me with a full-time chef.”   

"If Cassie's happy, I'm happy"

Garry tells her that if Cassie is happy with the arrangement, so is he;  “And anyway, it will be nice to keep seeing you in the Deri.”   He leaves the house, and is followed by Jaclyn on her way to the farm.

John is back at Penrhewl . . . 

John Deri Fawr arrives again at Penrhewl, and asks, “Did you get my message?   

. . . with publicity about the solar panels

“I sent a text to say I was popping over with these.”   Eileen is rather concerned that he has her mobile number, which he says was given to him by Eifion.   “I’ll put it in my ‘favourites’,” he tells her, “Have you thought any more about writing a letter to the council?”

Eileen is not keen to talk about it

Eileen is not keen to talk about this again, and says that even Sioned is in favour of the solar panels.   “She must have her father’s brains,” John comments, 

"Let me try and persuade you"

“Let me try to persuade you that this is the way forward for small farms like ours,” and he begins his sales pitch.

Champagne again?

In the Deri, Brynmor has another bottle of champagne, 

"I'm trying to get away from these two"

and Cassie notices Mark’s long face;  “I decided to work today, specifically to get away from those two – this wedding business is the only thing or their minds!”

"I love weddings"

Cassie loves weddings, with everybody happy, but he glumly continues, “Well, I don’t want anything to do with the circus,” 

When his mother sees him, he disappears

and when his mother calls to him he says that he has to work.

"What did he have to say?"

Kath asks Cassie what he had to say;  

"Moaning about this and that – he misses you"

“Moaning about this and that – you know how he is.   He misses you.”

"I'll still clean his pants and socks"

Kath emphasises that he is not going to lose her, and that she will still clean his pants and socks.   Cassie suggest that perhaps she has done too much of that, and it is now backfiring.

“He needs a woman, doesn’t he?   Someone lovely like his mother,” says Kath, “He used to adore you, Cassie.”   

"You were dead against it!"

“If I remember correctly, you were dead against it!” Cassie reminds her, “Friends, but nothing else – and what makes you think you’re like me?”   I’ll try and knock some sense into him, but I’m not promising anything.”

Tyler is back, and organising Iolo

Tyler is back from his shopping trip;  “What do you want for lunch?   You have a choice of pasta or jacket potato with tuna.”   Iolo invites him to choose, so they will have pasta.   

"We'll have a bigger meal tonight"

“We’ll have a bigger meal tonight – meat, veg, the works,” Tyler goes on, “What’s wrong?   I’m doing an OK job of looking after you, I hope.”

"You're doing more than enough"

“You’re doing more than enough for Greta and me – I don’t know how to thank you,” says Iolo.   Tyler tells him that there is no need, as they are family;  if anything positive has come from this cancer, 

"It has brought us closer together"

he maintains that it has brought the two of them closer together.

“Friends for life, is what we said a few weeks ago,” he adds, 

Iolo is not happy about this

and Iolo is looking troubled.

"The development company will pay us rent"

“We wouldn’t have to do anything – the development company will finance everything and pay us rent,” explains John, 

Eileen does not want the initial hassle 

but Eileen is not sure that she wants the initial hassle.   She asks how much rent they would get, and he replies that it would be a lot.

"You could develop a great site yourself"

“You could develop a great site yourself on the land you’ve got – and you could sell the electricity to the grid for big money!” he enthusiastically continues, 

"Come on – you're a smart businesswoman"

“Come on – you’re a smart businesswoman – brains and a pretty smile.   They’re not noisy like wind turbines – 

"They only take a couple of weeks to install"

“they won’t disturb you or the cows, and don’t worry about people coming and going – it would only take them a few weeks to install the panels.”

"I'll open that bottle of wine"

It appears that he has won over Eileen, who will open the bottle of wine he brought over yesterday;  

"You've done a good job of selling the idea"

“You’ve done a good job of selling the idea to me,” she says, and he suggests that they have a celebration lunch, 

"I heard you're a good cook"

as he has heard she is a good cook.

"I'm the tea lady here, Iol"

Tyler is preparing vegetables in the kitchen, insisting that Iolo should stay out of the kitchen for a few days;  “I’m the tea lady here.”   

"I'm worried you still want us back together"

Iolo has had enough of this;  “I’m worried you still want us to get back together again – I meant what I said after we slept together.   

"We're never going to be more than friends"

“We’re never going to be more than friends.”   

"Let's wait until you're better"

Tyler wants to put off this conversation until he is better, but Iolo will not do that.

"I want you to understand"

“I don’t want to hurt you, but I want you to understand.   I’m worried you think I’ll change my mind.”   

"You might change your mind"

Tyler hopes that he might, 

"Lying in hospital makes you think"

but is told, “Lying in a hospital for four days forces you to think about what you really want out of life.   I want to be in a relationship with a guy where I always come first 

"I don't want to worry about him hurting me"!

“and I don’t have to worry about him hurting me.   I’m sorry.”

"I think it would be best if you moved out"

After a pause, he adds, “I think it would be best if you moved out.”   

"You need someone here to help you"

Tyler insists that he needs someone here to help him.   

"I've got Dad – and Garry"

“I’ve got Dad – and Garry.   I think it would be better if we just concentrated on Greta and that’s it.”

"This is the thanks I get, is it?"

“This is the thanks I get, is it?” snarls Tyler, taking off his apron, “I’ll go up and pack my stuff – there’s no point staying where no-one wants me.”

Garry comes in and is told

Garry comes in through the back door, and Iolo tells him that Tyler is moving out;  

"Good – I'm not going to miss him!"

“Good!” is the immediate reply, “I’m not going to miss him!”   

Iolo explains that he will still need help, and that his father would be coming over more often, to cook and do other things;  

"I don't think I'm ready to stand in front of an oven"

“I don’t think I’m ready to stand in front of an oven.”   

"I'll make you beans on toast every night"

Garry volunteers to make him beans on toast every night, if it means his father stays away.

"Ffion's pregnant!"

Back home at Llwyncelyn, Hywel tells Gaynor that Ffion is pregnant;  she finds it hard to believe, 

"That's what she said"

and he adds, “That’s what she said – but I don’t know if I believe her.”   Gaynor asks if there was any alcohol, but he points out that she would have hidden that.

"I don't think she'd lie about that"

“I don’t think she’d lie about being pregnant when she’s lost so many babies,” Gaynor concedes, and wonders what she did not say anything.   “I have been so impatient with her.”   He says that he had to promise not to tell anyone, 

"Who's the father, then?"

and Gaynor wants to know who is the father.

"Gerwyn, perhaps"

Hywel hazards a guess at, “Gerwyn, perhaps – they’ve spent a lot of time together recently.”   Gaynor suggests that it might be Guto, as he has been going to and fro from Cysgod y Glyn, and perhaps that is why she wants it kept quiet.

"It wouldn't be the first time she's slept with father and son!"

“It wouldn’t be the first time she’s slept with the father and the son, would it?” she goes on, 

He realises she is getting at him

leaving Hywel looking rather guilty.
