"I didn't like who I was before I left" |
“I didn’t like who I was before I left – I was so selfish and angry – I wasn’t a nice guy! So I decided to take this time to work on myself – to self-isolate from the world.”
Izzy does not look entirely convinced, and he suspects her of thinking he has lost the plot;
![]() |
"I don't want to get my own back on Eileen" |
he adds, “And I don’t want to get my own back on Eileen any more, either. Although I want my own farm one day, stealing Penrhewl from Eileen isn’t the answer. I’m going to make it up to them – and to you as well.

"I didn't want to finish with you . . ." |
She shouts that she did not want to finish with him; “I thought you deserved better – I couldn’t give you children.
![]() |
". . . your father forced me to do it" |
“I had no choice – your father forced me to finish with you. He caught me drinking and he promised not to tell anyone, on one condition – that I finish with you. He said if I didn’t, he would tell everyone about the cirrhosis. I could have lost my job – and possibly Arwen!’”
![]() |
"Cirrhosis?" |
Rhys is completely confused; “Cirrhosis?” he says, and she reminds him that she was ill a few months ago, when he thought she was pregnant.
![]() |
"When I went away – I was in hospital" |
“I went away for a weekend, didn’t I? Well, I was in hospital.”
![]() |

![]() |
"They don't want anything to do with me" |
He fell out with his father years ago, and he does not know where his mother is; “They don’t want anything to do with me – sometimes it's easier to lie than to be honest with people. That’s not an excuse, but sometimes it’s easier. Are you angry because I lied, or because I was honest about my feelings for you yesterday?”

"You asked me to forget what you said" |
She answers that it does not matter because he asked her to forget what he said.

![]() |
"It was Mam's decision" |
Sioned replies that it was her mother’s decision,
![]() |
"We all know you run the show!" |
but he says, “Don’t lie, Sioned, we all know that you run the show! Whatever you want, you persuade Eileen it’s a good idea. Why don’t you want me here? Was I just a bit of fun during lockdown?

“Just be straight with me – was it just a bit of fun until lockdown was over?”

![]() |
Izzy feels exactly the same |
She admits that she is in a similar situation, thinking about him, but she is not good in a relationship; “I always ruin things somehow, Math, and I like you too much as a friend to risk that.”
