Dylan looks sorry for himself |
Dylan takes a couple of tablets and when Sara comes home, she wonders what has happened to him. He tells her the same story about the burglary,
"You're obviously not OK" |
and she exclaims, “You’re obviously not OK – you must be shaken up,” but he insists that he is fine.
He continues with the old burglary story . . . |
He goes on, “I caught him stealing from the till, he ran out and I followed him down the back. I managed to catch him, of course, but he was stronger than he looked – I didn’t see his face, as he was wearing a balaclava.”
. . . but he tends to overdo it a bit |
Sara asks how much money he stole, and is told, “About a thousand.”
"We don't keep that much in the till" |
She is immediately suspicious; “Dylan, we don’t keep that much money in the till – are you telling me the truth?” He prevaricates that he does not know exactly how much was taken, to the penny.
"The money isn't important" |
He then changes his estimate to a couple of hundred, but stresses that the money isn’t important; “What should be important is that I’m fine,” and again she apologises for doubting him.
"I've got a headache" |
He says that he has a headache and will go for a lie down; she looks very concerned.
"Meals on Wheels is doing well" |
In the café, Jason is working on the laptop and calls to Kelly; “Pryd ar Glud [Meals on Wheels] – I still think it’s a terrible name, but the business is doing well. Megan has put in another order already.”
Kelly is not happy about something |
Kelly is looking decidedly exasperated about something, and he asks, “What’s wrong? You haven’t had another nasty letter, have you?”
She replies that it was probably just a one off; “Somebody didn’t like my advice in the column – whatever!”
"Why the long face then, Kelly?" |
He further enquires into the cause of her long face, and she relates that the vacuum cleaner does not work;
"Sara was the last to use it" |
“The power doesn’t come on – all right? Sara was the last to use it in her bedroom this morning.
"Should I ask her to pay half?" |
“I mean, am I bang out of order asking Sara to pay half – after things have cooled down?”
Jason advises that she needs to ask in front of ‘moneybags’ Dylan;
"Moneybags is guaranteed to buy you one" |
“He’s guaranteed to buy you a top-of-the-range one, just to show off in front of Sara!” He feels quite pleased with this suggestion.
"What are we going to cook, then, Izzy?" |
In the shop flat, Mathew, in a much better humour, is doing the washing up when Izzy arrives; “So what are we going to cook, then?” he asks enthusiastically, and she answers that it will be lemon tart, which she has wanted for ages.
"No way we're using pastry from the shop!" |
As she removes the ingredients from her bag, she is reprimanded by Mathew; “Hey, no way! We’re not using pastry from the shop – if we’re making a lemon tart, we’re doing it properly.”
"My head's clearing a bit now" |
Later, Dylan returns from the bedroom, reporting that his head is clearing. “Good, because I think we need a chat,” Sara tells him,
"I don't think things are working out between us" |
"I know something serious is going on" |
“I’m not stupid – I know more something serious is going on.”
"You're overthinking things, Sara" |
He accuses her of overthinking things, but she is quite convinced, “The burglary is a lie – you stole the money. I know cash has been a problem for you lately.”
"Do you think I attacked myself?" |
He demands whether she thinks he attacked himself, and concludes that she has lost the plot.
"I don't want this kind of relationship" |
“I don’t want this kind of relationship – I don’t want to doubt you all the time,” she continues, “I want to be with somebody I can trust, and who can trust me.” He puts on a repentant look, admits that he knows this and is sorry.
Dylan has to turn on the emotion |
With a suitably emotional voice he announces that he loves her, which makes Sara laugh;
"I sometimes think you don't even like me!" |
“Love me? Dylan, I sometimes think you don’t even like me! You don’t show any sort of love towards me, and on the rare occasions you want to be close, your mind’s elsewhere.
"If I can't trust you, what's the point?" |
“If I can’t trust you to tell the truth, what’s the point? Why can’t you be honest with me?”
He shrugs his shoulders and manages to look tearful, but says nothing.
"You might as well pack your bag!" |
“OK, if you can’t be honest with me, you might as well pack your bag!” she instructs him, and walks out of the room.
An outdoor exercise session |
Out round the back of APD, Rhys is putting Luned through her paces, and she asks if many people want to come back to the gym; “I still can’t reopen officially, as there isn’t enough room,” he replies, and she is pleased to be having a private session.
"I just wanted to see you" |
He admits, “I just wanted to see you – I was fed up with seeing you on Zoom, though that was a lot of fun!” She confesses that she has never done that online before.
Guto arrives on the scene . . . |
Guto comes round the corner, wanting to join in with the session, and asks Luned if she would like to go for a jog;
. . . complaining that he has put on a stone |
he maintains that he has put on a stone since lockdown. He is surprised when she agrees to this,
They go off for a jog |
and off they go round the corner.
"I thought you would have started packing!" |
Dylan appears exceedingly gloomy, and Sara snarls, “I thought you would have started packing!”
"I'll tell you everything, but you're not going to like it" |
He haltingly agrees that if she wants to know everything, he will tell her everything, but she is not going to like it.
“Some periods of my life have been dark – times I’ve never told anyone about.
He embarks on his spiel . . . |
“I’ve been hurt a lot – and I’ve caused other people a lot of pain as well. There are some things you’ll never understand . . .
. . . as Sara listens |
“but if you want to know everything, I’ll tell you.
"But then you'll be part of it" |
“You have to realise, if I tell you, you’re part of it – you can’t un-hear what I’m about to tell you, do you understand?”
Sara is looking uneasy at this |
Sara looks very uneasy at this, and as he theatrically wipes his eyes and sobs,
Here come the crocodile tears |
he continues, “When I was young . . . I don’t know why it’s so difficult to tell you . . .”
The sobbing has the desired effect |
At this point he appears to be crying; Sara says that he does not have to tell her if he does not want to. “But I want to be honest with you,” he protests.
"Just be honest about how you feel for me" |
She simply wants him to be honest about one thing – the way he feels about her. “If you’re not happy or don’t want to be with me any more, you have to tell me.” He clearly states that he wants to be with her, now, here, and he is totally sure of this. Having been well and truly taken in by this performance, she decides that she had better make a start on the food,
Then comes the clincher . . . |
and as she gets up from the sofa, he suddenly exclaims, “Marry me!” which causes a look of incredulity on Sara’s face.
. . . which catches her completely off guard |
“I don’t understand – I’m really confused,” she groans, but he insists that he wants to make her happy; he wants her to know that he wants to tell her all that stuff one day.
"Let today be a new start for us!" |
“But let today be a new start for us!” he demands, falling to his knees, seemingly untroubled by his injuries,
"Will you make me the happiest man in the world?" |
and asks, “Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”
Just as Sara (poor gullible creature) agrees,
"Congrats, guys!" |
Kelly appears at the top of the stairs, having come up from the café, and comments, “Congrats, guys!”
"It must be done by now, Math" |
In the shop flat, Izzy impatiently asks if the lemon pie is cooked yet, and Mathew urges her to hold her horses. She protests that if they had made it her way, they would have finished eating it by now; he points out that they have had a lot of fun.
"Things are much better when you have to wait for them" |
“Things are much better when you have to wait for them,” he tells her,
A look passes between them |
and they look at each other.
"Right, it must be time to take it out now" |
She can wait no longer; “Right, it must be time to take it out now,”
Mathew is impressed by his culinary expertise |
so he does so, and they are both very impressed by the result, although we do not actually see it.
Tesni appears to be going out |
At number 10, Tesni is applying her lipstick when Guto comes through the back door; “Where have you been? Mam wanted us both to tidy the house,” she complains,
"I'm sure she's changed her mind about me" |
but he says that he was at the gym. “Stalking Luned again?” she surmises, and he feels sure that she has changed her mind about him, so he is going to ask her out on a date.
Tesni explains that he is misreading the signals, but he reports that they went for a jog and had a laugh.
"Guto – Luned likes Rhys" |
“I didn’t want to tell you this, but Luned likes Rhys – they’ve talked loads during lockdown,” she goes on.
"She's trying to make me jealous" |
He is sure that Luned is simply trying to make him jealous.
They both enjoyed the baking |
Izzy leaves the shop after the baking session, which they both enjoyed, and confesses that she needs to tell him something; “I haven’t been completely honest over the last few weeks –
"The truth is – I don't like cakes" |
“the truth is . . . I don’t like cakes. I prefer savoury things like crisps, sausage rolls.”
"After I've been slaving away in that kitchen!" |
“And after I’ve been slaving away in that kitchen!” he laughs, and admits that he does not really like cakes, but just wanted an excuse to see her.
Tesni approaches . . . |
Then Tesni comes out of number 10,
. . . and Mathew is left to face her |
and Mathew looks rather uncomfortable as Izzy leaves him.
“Math, have I done something? You’ve been really really hot and cold with me lately,” she tells him,
He apologises to Tesni |
and he apologises, asking her up to the flat.
"It would be nice to spend some time with you" |
“It would be nice to spend some time with you,” she says enthusiastically, but he looks less than eager.
Guto finds uncle Dylan . . . |
As Guto comes out of the back gate of number 10, he sees Dylan sitting disconsolately on the bench,
. . . sitting opposite Cysgod y Glyn |
right opposite Cysgod y Glyn, with a bottle of wine beside him. “Guto, I haven’t seen you for ages,” he says.
Guto explains his problem . . . |
Guto reveals that Luned fancies Rhys, and does not know what to do.
. . . and is given some advice |
“There’s nothing a girl likes more than two men competing for her,” is Dylan’s advice,
He feels inferior to Rhys |
but Guto reckons that Rhys has so many advantages over him. Dylan assures him that he is a ‘catch’, because he shares the same genes as his uncle.
"Smoking wacky baccy behind the sheds" |
“Yeah, I’m sure you got all the girls when you were my age,” says Guto, but Dylan confesses that he was a bit of a waster back then, always skiving off school to smoke wacky baccy behind the sheds.
"You need to have a bit more fight" |
“Do you want to know the secret to getting girls? Confidence – be confident. You got much more to offer than Rhys Llywelyn – she’ll see that. You just need to have a bit more fight.”
Tesni goes on and on about her brother |
Up in the shop flat, Tesni is going on about her brother; “If Luned doesn’t want to be with him, she doesn’t want to be with him – he has to accept it. I don’t want to be harsh and tell him everything about Luned and Rhys –
"They've been having 'Zoom Sex' for weeks" |
“like they’ve been having ‘Zoom Sex’ for weeks, and how does he expect Luned to forgive him after he slept with Sioned?”
She is describing Mathew's situation |
Mathew has said nothing until now, finding himself in exactly the position she has been describing. She believes that Guto is jealous;
"We sort things out in the end, Math" |
“We have our ups and downs, but we sort things out in the end,” she tells Mathew.
"I don't see us working any more" |
He hesitates and then begins, “Listen, Tes, I’m so sorry, but I don’t see us working any more. Lockdown has made me think a lot about . . .”
"That's because we haven't seen each other for so long" |
She interrupts that he is just saying that because they have not seen each other for so long, but he disagrees; “I’ve felt like this for some time, since before lockdown.” Tesni is devastated and does not understand what he is saying;
"What have I done, Math?" |
she demands what she has done and he assures her that it is not her fault.
"I don't see it working any more" |
“We’ve had so much fun together, but I just don’t see it working any more,” he tells her, and begs her not to cry.
She wonders, “How do you expect me to react?” and professes her love for him;
"After everything I've done for you . . ." |
“You’re just dumping me without an explanation – why did you bring me a cake if you wanted to finish with me? After everything I’ve done for you – I’ve quarrelled with my parents to be with you –
". . . you're dumping me like this?" |
“I stuck with you after the acid attack, and you’re dumping me like this?” Mathew is lost for words, and she rushes out of the flat.
Kelly waits for Jason's return |
In the café, Kelly is reading a magazine when Jason rushes in; “I’ve been delivering food to the masses,” he tells her,
She has some exciting new for him |
and she is very excited about some good news she has for him.
"Dylan's bought you that vacuum cleaner?" |
“Let me guess – Dylan has bought you a top-of-the-range vacuum cleaner?” he replies, but she has not yet asked about that.
"Dylan asked Sara to marry him!" |
“Because, when we went upstairs, I saw Dylan ask Sara to marry him!” squeals Kelly, “I know – they’ll move out, and then I’ll buy a new Hoover because we’ll have the flat to ourselves!”
That is a relief for Jason |
They agree that this is indeed good news.
Guto is eavesdropping outside the gym . . . |
As Guto passes the door of the gym, he hears voices from inside; Rhys shouts Luned’s name, and she protests, “You’re all sweaty – don’t!”
. . . and what he hears going on . . . |
Rhys replies that they do have showers there, and he could join her. “That would be a new adventure for us,” says Luned.
. . . makes him determined to do something |
Guto walks resolutely away after having heard this.
Mathew arrives at Penrhewl |
At Penrhewl, Izzy has made a cup of tea when Mathew arrives in a rather troubled state;
"Tes and I have finished" |
“Tes and I have finished,” he says and Izzy wonders what happened. “Well, you happened, Izzy,” he answers.
"We both said that kiss was a mistake" |
She reminds him that they both said the kiss was a mistake, but now his opinion has changed,
"I like you, Izzy" |
and he insists that he likes her.
In the ensuing silence, another voice is heard, and the long-absent Eifion comes in,
"Aren't you happy to see me?" |
(having been absent since 12 March) announcing, “I couldn’t stay away a second longer. Aren’t you happy to see me, then?”
Guto is doing some serious thinking |
Guto sits at home, his head in his hands,
He takes some items from his pocket . . . |
and after some thought, takes a plastic bag from his pocket, which contains tobacco, a lighter
. . . including 'wacky baccy'? |
and a small pouch of a brown substance, at which he looks closely.
