"Why did you tell such a lie?"

Brynmor is at Cysgod y Glyn, sternly pointing out to Eleri that he does not have another woman;  “Why did you tell such a lie?”   She replies that she did not,

"Why does Kath think that, then?"

so he wonders, “Why does Kath think that, then?   Thanks a lot!”

Eleri replies, “It was going to happen – at least you don’t look as desperate now.   She was obviously jealous of this new woman, but what does it matter, anyway?

"It's not like you want her back, is it?"

“It’s not like you want her back, is it?”

"Come up, Hywel"

The buzzer sounds and Brynmor answers it, telling Hywel to come up;

"What does he want?"

Eleri snarls, “What does he want?”   Her father has asked him to come over as he wants to discuss the mess that they have caused.

"The official opening went well"

Hywel comes in and announces that the official opening of the office went well,

"I worked hard on that"

with Eleri stressing that she worked hard on that.

"I thought you knew what you were doing"

“I thought you knew what you were doing when I said we need to invest in the community,” scolds Brynmor.

"We gave the carnival £1,500"

Hywel points out that they gave the carnival £1,500.

“No, I wanted you to spend money on something with a permanent impact –

"I thought you had some PR sense, Eleri!"

“I thought you had some PR sense, Eleri!   Where was the ambition?   Where was the enterprise?”

"Do you have any new ideas, then?"

She irritably asks whether he has got any new ideas;  apparently he has

"The board has agreed to sell plots at Deri Lakes"

and tells them, “The board has agreed to sell plots at Deri Lakes – just the right investment for wealthy people in the area.”

"And you want us to sell the plots"

She gets the impression that he wants the two of them to sell these plots.

“Exactly – and I want you to prove yourselves, because I haven’t seen an ounce of business acumen from either of you so far.”

Howard walks into APD . . .

At APD, Siwsi has just served a customer when Howard walks in;

. . . and pushes past Siwsi

she flinches when he touches her shoulder in his effort to walk past.   He comments, “You could ask – or if that’s too difficult,

"Not going to walk out again, are you?"

“you could send me a text – how is your grandmother?   You’re not going to walk out to go and see her again, are you?”

"Do you really want to do this now, in here?"

She angrily turns towards him and demands, “Do you really want to do this now, in here?” but before she can get any further, Cassie comes in with a request for Howard.

"There's a light on the blink"

There is a light in the Deri that is on the blink and she does not want to climb a ladder so asks if he can deal with it.

She tells Siwsi that he will not be long,

"Keep him as long as you want"

to which Siwsi replies, “Keep him as long as you want!”

"Those biscuits are more addictive than crack co . . ."

Colin comes upstairs in the MFC flat, announcing to Britt, “Those biscuits you like are back in stock – they are more addictive than crack co . . .”

". . . than cream crackers"

Then he notices that Mali, the social worker is also there, so changes his comparison to, “Than cream crackers.”   He wonders if she has an update for them.

"We've completed out assessment of Kylie's auntie"

“We’ve completed our assessment of Sharon, Kylie’s auntie, and from our side everything looks promising for her to welcome Kylie into her new home.”

"How soon is it likely to be?"

Colin wonders how soon this is likely to be.

"It could be a matter of days"

“Well, we have to consider Kylie’s wishes, but if she’s keen, it could be a matter of days.”

This depresses Colin

He is rather upset to hear this.

"Do you want me to do your shift?"

In the Deri, Cassie asks Kath, “Do you want me to do your shift this afternoon?”

Kath's mind is elsewhere

but receives no reply, as Kath’s thoughts appear to be far away.

"The barmaid on try Titanic was happier than you"

“I don’t want to be mean, but I’m sure the barmaid on the Titanic was happier than you – you might frighten the customers.”

"I don't know what's the matter with me"

Kath does not know what is the matter with her;  she is the one who asked for the divorce.   Cassie appreciates that it does not make it any easier.

"He's found another woman"

“Well, it’s obvious that Brynmor isn’t finding it difficult,” Kath groans, but Cassie suggests that perhaps he is, in his own way.   “I don’t think he is – he’s found another woman.”

Cassie recommends that if it is good enough for him, she should do the same thing.

"There's no point wasting time"

Kath picks up her phone and glasses, intending to text Brynmor to make sure he sends off the divorce papers;  “There’s no point wasting time.

Howard arrives with his step-ladder

Howard comes into the Deri

"That Siwsi seems very nice"

and Cassie mentions, “Listen, that Siwsi seems very nice.”   Howard begs to differ and explains that they were on a date there the other day

"I thought it was going well . . ."

and he thought it was going well until she left and sent him a text, telling him to keep away,

". . .but she sent this text"

which he shows to Cassie.

She assumes that he said something to offend Siwsi, but he protests that he did nothing but she just disappeared and sent the text.

"Is she playing 'hard to get'?"

“Is she playing ‘hard to get’?” he wonders, “Either that or someone’s telling stories about me, then.”

"Your history is . . . colourful"

Cassie reminds him that his history is somewhat . . . colourful.

He asks if Cassie could have a word with her;

"You were a young woman once"

“You were a young woman once,”

"Cheek!"

which she regards as cheeky.   “You know what I mean – you understand how women think – could you explain to Suzy

"And say that I'm, you know, all right"

“and say that I’m, you know, all right.   Please – I’m doing you a favour with this light.”

"These plots have real potential"

At Cysgod y Glyn, Brynmor is explaining, “These plots have real potential.”   Hywel remarks that they are right on the banks of the reservoir, but is immediately corrected that it is the ‘Lake’.

"I think I have a client or two"

Hywel thinks that he knows a client or two who would be interested, but he is not revealing their identity to Eleri,

"And I have some clients"

who also alleges that she has clients.

"Haven't changed their minds, have they?"

Brynmor’s phone sounds and Eleri is worried that the board have changed their minds.   He informs her that the message is from Kath.

"Sorry to hear about you and Kath"

Hywel says that he was sorry to hear about Kath and him,

"I have more important things to think about"

but Brynmor is adamant that he has more important things to think about, “Like which one of you two will manage to sell those plots.”

"We can manage it together"

Hywel seems confident that they will manage it together, but this plan is shattered when Brynmor announces, “No, I want to find out who deserves a desk in that little office –

"There isn't room in the office . . ."

“because there isn’t room for all of us.

". . . so, good luck!"

“So, good luck.”   He picks up his jacket and leaves the flat.

"What has happened?"

At the MFC flat, Kylie comes in rather nervously and wants to know what has happened.

"Auntie Sharon has a room for you"

She is told to sit down and Britt informs her that her auntie Sharon has moved somewhere new and has a spare room for Kylie.   “She’s looking forward to having you there.”

This shocks Kylie

Kylie appears shocked as she is told by the social worker that they have been talking and all agree that it is a great opportunity for her,

"But only if it's all right with you"

“But only if it’s all all right with you and you’re happy.”

Colin advises that it will be happening before long, but Kylie protests that she does not want to go;

"I want to stay here with you"

“I want to stay here with you.”   It is pointed out that there are lots of options

"Can we have a chat about it?"

and Mali would like to have a chat with her about it,

Kylie escapes to the sofa

but Kylie gets up and walks out of the room, going to sit on the sofa.

"Howard's on his way to Cwrtmynach"

Siwsi is working in APD when Cassie comes in to inform her that Howard has finished the replacing with the light and is on his way to a job in Cwrtmynach.   “Are you settling in all right?” she enquires

"Mathew is a lovely boss"

and Siwsi replies that Mathew is a lovely boss.

Sensing that there was something else, Siwsi asks if she can help;

"I  heard there was a misunderstanding"

Cassie admits, “Well, yes, to be honest – I heard you and Howard went on a date and that there was a misunderstanding.”

"Did he send you here?"

“Did he send you here?” Siwsi demands and is told that Cassie noticed there was some tension between them earlier.

"He's a nice guy deep down"

“Well, to be fair to Howard, he’s a nice guy deep down.”

That is what Siwsi thought to begin with,

"Until I heard he threatened to rape Kelly"

“Until I heard that he threatened to rape Kelly – I couldn’t spend another second with him – and if I had another job to go to, I’d leave.”

"He's come a long way since then"

Cassie is sorry for raising the matter, “But to give you peace of mind, that was a long time ago and he’s come a long way since then.”

Her mind has not changed

This makes no difference to Siwsi’s attitude.

"Are we doing the right thing?"

Brynmor is at the Deri flat, asking Kath, “Are we doing the right thing?”

"You were the one chasing me to sign"

She points out that he was the one who was chasing her to sign the papers.

“Eleri said it only took seconds for you to fill in your side of things,”

"None of this is easy, Kath"

but he protests that it is not true, maintaining that none of this is easy.

"Give me the papers and I'll post them"

Kath’s answer is that he should give the papers to her and she will post them for him,

Brynmor will not hand them over

but he seems determined to hang on to them.

"Are you going to answer it?"

His phone rings and Kath encourages him to answer it.

"Hello, Denise, love"

“Oh, hello, Denise, love,” he begins, “How are you?   No, I’m fine, thanks.   Yes, I’m looking forward to seeing you, too.”

"Sorry, Kath, I have to go"

He apologises to Kath that he has to go

"So that's her, is it"

and she quite understands, jumping to the conclusion that this is the ‘other woman’.

Mali and Kylie are talking

While Kylie and the social worker are talking to each other,

"We should have prepared her better for this"

Colin remarks to Britt, “We should have prepared her better for this day,” but she is adamant that they have done so,

"We knew she would leave one day"

pointing out that they knew from the start that she would leave one day.

“Yes, one day – how do we know this auntie is going to look after her?” he protests.

"Sharon is 'tip-top"

Britt reminds him that they have heard Mali – all the necessary checks have been done and Sharon is ‘tip-top’.   It is not as though Kylie has not lived with her before.

"Do we have any tissues?"

Kylie turns round from her seat and asks if they have any tissues;

Colin takes her some

Colin hurries to take her a box.

"Do you think he's holding back"

“Do you think he’s holding back?” asks Cassie, but Kath does not know the answer to that.

"Perhaps he doesn't want a divorce"

“Perhaps he doesn’t want a divorce,” Cassie adds.

That is what Kath thought at the start;

"'Hello, Denise, love,' he said in front of me"

“But then he answered the phone, in front of me, ‘Hello, Denise, love – looking forward to seeing you, too’.”

"The swine!"

Cassie describes him as a ‘swine’ and Kath imagines that he is trying to make her jealous – but that will not work.

"Yes, I'm quite sure"

She is quite sure that she wants this divorce, so Cassie stresses that it does not matter what Brynmor wants.

Siwsi goes to the bar

Siwsi gets up from her seat and goes to the bar to order some soup,

"Why are you so ready to defend Howard?"

then asks Cassie, “Out of interest, why are you so ready to defend Howard?”

"He hasn't had an easy life"

Cassie concedes that he can be quite . . . uncouth, “But there we are, he hasn’t had an easy life.”

"None of us have"

Siwsi considers that life is not easy for anyone.

"He's only just learned how to read"

“I’m not justifying what he said to Kelly – but he’s a little bit behind everyone else in life.   Did you know that he’s only just learned to read?   And he finds it difficult to read people, especially women –

"He needs someone to teach him"

“but he is doing very well – he needs someone to teach him.”

"I'm not sure that should be my job"

Siwsi is not sure that should be her job

"Rejected – try again"

and attempts to pay £5.50 for her soup, but her card is rejected by the machine,

The result is the same . . .

so tries again, with the same result.

. . . which Siwsi finds strange

She looks very surprised.

"I'll always look on you as one of my children"

Colin tells Kylie, “I’ll always look on you as one of my children – that’s why I don’t want to see you cry – do you understand?”

Britt is becoming tearful

Britt is becoming quite emotional, watching this,

"We'll always be together, in our hearts"

as he continues, “Because we’ll always be together, in our hearts.”

"I'm worried about leaving you two"

Kylie apologises for crying;  “I love Auntie Sharon and of course I want to move in with her, but I’m worried about leaving you two as well –

"I don't want to make you sad"

“I don’t want to make you sad.”

"All we want is for you to be happy"

Colin urges her not to worry about them, as all they want is for her to be happy.   She says that she is, so he maintains that he and Britt have done their job;

'We will really miss you"

“We’ve kept you safe and secure and happy, until you’re ready to go – we will really miss you, but we’ll be all right.”

"Are you happy to go back?"

Mali intervenes to check that Kylie is happy to go back to Sharon;  she agrees that she is, but adds, “I’m never going to forget about you.”

"Is it all right for me to be here?"

When Hywel comes into the Deri, Eleri is sitting at a table;  he asks Cassie, “Is it all right for me to be here, or am I banned again?”

"You're an unscrupulous weasel!"

She answers, “We’re always happy to take your money – even though you’re an unscrupulous weasel!   Pint?”

"Why don't we work together?"

He sits down opposite Eleri;  “I know your father wants to play us against each other in some sort of competition, but shouldn’t the company come first?   Why don’t we work together, then we can show your father that we can work as a team to sell those plots.”

"We're not in the same league, Hywel"

She scathingly replies, “I don’t view you as competition, Hywel.   We’re not in the same league – and I’m going to prove that to Dad when I find a buyer for those plots on my own.”

"And there I was, trying to help you"

Hywel is disgusted by this;  “And there I was trying to help you because I know the area and its people better than you.”

"This is going to be so much fun!"

“That’s what’s going to be so much fun,” she chuckles, “Seeing you lose to a woman half your age on your own patch!”

Howard comes back in

Siwsi is eating biscuits when Howard comes back in;

"Cassie gave you a character reference"

“Cassie was here earlier – she gave you a character reference – said you’re a good guy.   I told her that I’ve heard otherwise –

"I know what you did to Kelly!"

“I know what you did to Kelly – you threaten to rape her!   That’s why I left our date.   Is it true?”

"I wasn't a nice guy at that time"

He admits that it is, but points out that it was years ago;  “I wasn’t a nice guy at the time, OK?   And I’m trying my best to get better.

"I think Kelly's forgiven me . . ."

“Kelly and I – we’re OK at the moment – I think she’s forgiven me,

". . . but I never should have said that"

“but I should never have said what I did to her and I regret it –

"I have to live with myself"

“I have to live with myself.”

"You're not really going to kick your daughter out?"

Eleri has made coffee and says to her father, “But you’re not really going to kick your daughter out of the office to make way for Hywel Llywelyn, are you?”

"I'm, trying to run a business, Eleri"

He replies that he is trying to run a business.

"Where am I supposed to find someone with enough money?"

“Where am I supposed to find someone with enough money to buy a plot for a fortune?   Where do I start?” she demands.

"You could prove that you're not completely useless"

Brynmor suggests that she could prove that she is not completely useless, a comment which she finds offensive.

"I gave Kath an antique gold necklace . . ."

He continues, “All right, a few years ago I gave Kath an antique gold necklace – Mam-gu Mwmbwls owned it – I’ve learned recently that it’s quite valuable.”

". . . I'd like it back"

He shows her a photo of the necklace on his phone, adding, “I’d like it back.”

"She won't give it back to you?"

Eleri is outraged that Kath will not give it back to him, but he says he has not asked her – and, in any case, she does not know how much it is worth,

"So perhaps you can . . ."

so perhaps Eleri can . . .

"What?   Steal it?"

“What?   Steal it?” exclaims Eleri,

"Get it back without Kath knowing"

but her father would rather describe it as getting it back without Kath knowing.   “Is this a test?” snarls Eleri,

"I'm not doing it!"

“Because I’m not doing it!”

“Eleri, think about what I’ve asked you to do – you’ve lived well on my money for too long – and it’s time for you to prove that you deserve every penny.

"Or the bank of Daddy will close for ever"

Or the bank of Daddy will close for ever.”

She was not expecting that

Eleri appears to be rather stunned by this ultimatum.
