Dani is going cleaning somewhere

Dani walks along the High Street with her trolley full of cleaning materials.

"That looks expensive"

Inside the shop, Kath looks at the bottle on the counter and remarks to Colin, “That looks expensive,”

"Gaynor brought it back from Paris"

and he tells her that Gaynor brought it back from Paris for him.

“That will be a nice treat for you and Britt tonight,” she adds, but he informs her that Britt is still in Newcastle.

"You know where I am if you want to share"

“She’s been up there for a while, now – well, you know where I am if you want to share,” she assures him.

This invitation puzzles Colin

Dani has come into the shop as he is looking puzzled at Kath,

"Share the wine, I mean"

so she tells him, “Share the wine, I mean.”

As she leaves, she wishes Colin a happy birthday;

Dani has a present from Dani

that is why Dani is also there and hands him a card and present from herself, Gabs and Gwern.

Colin asks how she is doing and she says that she is getting better;

"I'll never give Social Services a reason again"

“I’ll never give Social Services a reason to take Gabs from me again!”

"I've got faith in you, Dani"

Colin says that he has faith in her, then opens the box to find some golf balls.

He says that he has been thinking of picking up the clubs again;  “I almost won the Lampeter cup, back in . . . 1995, I think it was – did you know that?

"I'll never lose my little balls in the rough now"

“I’ll recognise my little balls in the rough now – guaranteed!   I've had a lot of presents – everyone’s been very kind, you know.”

"The place needs a woman's touch"

She wonders if he would like her to take all the presents back to the MFC flat, as she was going to offer to do a clean on it.   “I want to – you’ve been so good to me – and I’m sure the place needs a woman’s touch while Britt’s away.”

"Don't go to too much trouble"

He urges her not to go to too much trouble.

Lleucu arrives late

Lleucu comes along the road to find Kelly industriously cleaning an old hand-cart outside APD;

"Where have you been?"

“Where have you been?   The carnival will have been and gone before we finish this!”

"Sorry – I slept late"

Lleucu apologises for sleeping late and Kerry can see that something is wrong.   “It’s not exactly the most glamorous job, but you said you wanted to help,” she adds.

"Are you really going to put the carnival queen on this?"

Eleri is approaching and sneers, “Don’t tell me this is the main float for the carnival?   Are you really going to put the carnival queen on this?”

"It was free"

Kelly angrily points out that Mathew has offered it for nothing.

"You'll have to do better than this"

“Well, I’m glad you didn’t pay for it!   No, you’ll have to do better than this, girls,” and she walks off.

That Eleri is enough to get anyone's back up

Kelly is seething with rage.

Dani has  a surprise

Dani arrives in the MFC flat to begin cleaning

"Britt?"

and is very surprised

Britt is sitting there

to see Britt sitting there.

"How long is Mathew going to stay?"

At number 21 Hywel is complaining, “How long is Mathew going to stay?”

"As long as he wants"

Rhys has told him that he can stay as long as he needs to, stressing that he is having a hard time.   Things are not great between him and Sioned.

"Eleri wants to see you"

“That’s not my fault – ask him how much longer he’s staying – and Eleri wants to see you in Cysgod y Glyn – I don’t know why,” grumbles his father.

“You’re here to see Colin on his birthday, are you?” Dani asks,

"I'm just collecting a few things"

but Britt replies that she is back to collect a few things and to check on MFC.

“To be honest, I’m not sure if I want to see him again –

"I'm not sure he deserves to see me"

“and I’m not sure if he deserves to see me, either.   You don’t want to know why, or you will be as angry as me.”

"What's Colin supposed to have done now?"

Dani wants to know what Colin is supposed to have done now.

“He’s betrayed us – you, me – Seren – all of the Monks.

"He's been going to see Cai Rossiter!"

“He’s been going to see Cai Rossiter!   Spending time with him behind our backs!   I didn’t want to tell you because I know how upset you will be.”

"I've been to see him as well"

Dani stops her there;  “I’ve been to see him as well – look, this feud has been going on too long.”

"He was supposed to look after Seren!"

Britt snarls that he was supposed to look after Seren.

Dani is quite aware of that, but points out that she was the one who took Seren there because Garry came looking for Gwern,

"After you arranged for Garry to come to the funeral"

“After you arranged for Garry to come to the funeral.”

"So it's mine and Garry's fault?"

“So it’s mine and Garry’s fault?” demands Britt, but Dani insists that it is not anyone’s fault.

"Perhaps you should go and visit him"

She suggests that perhaps Britt should also go to visit Cai,

"I'm not going to visit that murderer!"

but Britt is adamant, “I’m not going to visit that murderer!”

Dani is now fed up with pointing the finger;

"If you're too stubborn . . ."

if Britt is too stubborn to try and move on, then fine, “But you’re going to push us all away – including Colin.”

"I'm not listening to this!"

Britt refuses to listen to this,

She storms out

picks up her bag and storms out of the flat.

"It was laughable!"

At Eleri’s flat, she informs Rhys and Hywel, “It was laughable – it belongs in the dump, not in a carnival procession!”

"Mathew let us have it for nothing"

It is again pointed out to her that Mathew let them have it for nothing,

"He must have something else to offer"

but she maintains that he must have something else to offer and that they should ask him.

"I'm not hassling Math about this"

“I’m not hassling Math about this – he’s got enough to worry about,” replies Rhys.

His father cannot resist interrupting to say, “He doesn’t have to worry about where he’s going to stay!   You’ve promised him our sofa for ever.”

"I don't want the company to be linked to a flop"

“I haven’t called you here to discuss Mathew’s domestics – I’m worried about this farce of a carnival!   I don’t want the company to be linked to a flop.”

Rhys is convinced that it will not be a flop and she agrees;  “Because you’re going to persuade the committee to let me and Hywel help to organise it.

"You need people who know what they're doing"

“You need people who know what they’re doing on the committee.”

He points out that he has persuaded them to accept her money already, so she regards it as an easy task;  “There’s a meeting today.”

"I've got a trade fair to go to"

Rhys replies that he is not going to the committee meeting;  “I’ve got a trade fair to go to – in Neath – I won’t be back in time, and Kelly already knows.   So, sorry –  I can’t do your dirty work this time – even if I wanted to!”

"That's the end of that plan, then"

He walks out of the flat, leaving Eleri shaking her head and Hywel imagining that is the end of the plan.   “You don’t give up as easily as your son, do you?” demands Eleri,

"Someone will have to go in his place"

“As he cannot go to the meeting, someone else would have to go in his place.”

And we all know who that will be

There is little doubt about who is to be the substitute.

Colin serves Llinos

Colin is serving Llinos in the shop and then sees that,

"The super-cleaner is back already!"

“The super-cleaner is back already – you’re like speedy Gonzales!”

Dani informs him that she has not started yet, so he imagines that she has been eating his biscuits.

"Colin – Britt's back!"

“Colin – Britt’s back!” she announces,

"She was in the flat, but she's gone now"

“And I may have said a few things I shouldn’t have – but I was trying to tell her that we have to stop being so angry with Cai.   She was in the flat, but now she’s gone.   You go and I’ll look after this place, OK?”

Colin moves so fast, he is a blur

He wastes no time in dashing out of the door.

"We might as well start"

The three members of the carnival committee think that they might as well start;

"Where is everyone?"

“Where is everyone?” Kelly demands, “Rhys is the only one who has apologised.”

Kath tells her to be grateful that John White did not get a whiff that they were meeting today.   “How can the three of us organise a carnival?” Kelly wonders,

"What's your problem with Siôn?"

while Lleucu wants to know what the problem is with Siôn.

“Oh, there’s no problem – I just didn’t fancy anyone correcting my Welsh today,” Kath replies,

This tickles Kelly

which makes Kelly smile.   She asks if they want to put anything specific on the agenda today.

"I don't want everything stopping outside the Deri

Kath asks where the parade is going to stop, because she does not want everything to stop outside the Deri, as they will need parking for all the lorries and trailers.   Lleucu interrupts to point out that they only have one trailer at the moment;  “Not that ugly thing outside APD?” Kath gasps, “Oh, for heaven’s sake, please!”

Eleri and her protagée arrive

Eleri and Hywel come in at that moment and she instructs him to go and sort them out.

"I'm more than happy for someone to come up with a plan"

“OK, I’m more than happy for anyone to come up with a plan of action to find something better,” says Kelly.

"Rhys asked me to represent him"

They wonder why Hywel is standing nearby and ask if they can help him;  “As Rhys can’t attend, he’s asked me to represent him,” says Hywel,

"He didn't mention that"

“He was supposed to pass on the message –

"You carry on and I'll catch up"

“look, you three carry on and I’ll catch up.”

Colin gets back to the flat . . .

Colin arrives in the MFC flat, but there is no sign of Britt,

. . . where there is no sign of Britt

which he finds rather dispiriting.

Lleucu has been otherwise occupied

Back in the Deri, “We come to Miss Tech Wizz,” says Kelly, “Have you thought what you’re going to put on the socials?”   Lleucu replies that she has not yet as she has been busy.

"Professional companies can do that wor

Hywel sees his chance;  “Look, if you’re struggling, professional companies can do that work,” but Kelly points out that they cannot afford that and in any case Lleucu insists that she has already said that she will do it.

"The company that s-does our socials is excellent"

He ploughs on, “The company that does our socials is excellent.”

Kath sneers, “Our?   Quantum Hydro Works, is it?”

"We have got contracts"

He goes on that they have got contracts with companies that organise things like this – perhaps they could help.

"There's no money, Hywel"

“There’s no point because there’s no cash,” Kelly groans, but he assures her that she does not have to worry about the cost as they will cover it.   “You obviously want something more than branding!” Kelly laughs.

Hywel insists that, on the contrary, all they want to do is to give back to the community, so Kath wants to know what the catch is.

"Tell us what you want us to do"

“Look, we want to help organise it – all the boring stuff like insurance, health and safety.   Tell us what you want us to do and we’ll do it – along with what you’ve already done, of course – we don’t want to step on your toes.”

"Can you get a decent lorry?"

Kath enquires whether they can get a decent lorry instead of that pig sty Mathew has given them;

"Yeah, no problem"

Hywel immediately agrees that he can,

"I've wasted one morning on this carnival!"

which angers Lleucu, who protests that she has been scrubbing that trailer all morning.   “I’ve wasted one morning on this carnival – I’m not wasting another second.   I’m late for my shift, OK?”

It does not appear to be going according to plan

Eleri, from her observation post, does not consider that this is going very well, with Kath wondering what has got into Lleucu today.

"It could be the best carnival ever!"

Hywel summarises, “This offer won’t last for ever – if you accept, Cwmderi could have the best carnival it has ever seen.”

"That's a bit better"

Eleri thinks that things may be improving.

Britt is by Brandon's grave

In the churchyard of an ancient church with a distinctive tower, [St Bleiddian's at St Lythan, Wenvoe] Britt is standing by a grave;  “How can people forgive so easily, Brandon?   Would you forgive him?   Perhaps you would – you always saw the best in everyone when someone crossed us.”

Someone is approaching on the left

Colin is approaching, as she continues, “Garry and I would march straight in and you’d try to stop us – ‘Cool head, now.’

"I don't want to lose them all"

“Perhaps I am too stubborn, Brandon – I don’t want to lose them all.”

"You're not going to lose us all"

“You’re not going to lose us all,” Colin tells her.

"What are you doing here?"

Lleucu arrives in the shop and is surprised to see Dani behind the counter;  “What are you doing here?” she demands.

"Looking after the place until Colin gets back"

Dani answers that she is looking after the place until Colin gets back.   “Well, I’m here now, so you can go.

"Is that all you've got to say?"

Dani picks up her bag;  “Is that all you’ve got to say?”

Lleucu replies that she is not in the mood for another mouthful;

"You didn't have to go to Dad behind my back"

“You didn’t have to go to Dad behind my back like that.   I understand that what I did upset you.”

"I almost lost Gabs because of you!"

“Upset me?   Lleucu, I was frightened – I couldn’t sleep – I almost lost Gabs because of you.

"This . . . it stops!"

“I understand that you’ve had a difficult time – but this . . . it stops!”

Lleucu is close to tears

She walks out, again leaving Lleucu close to tears.

"Something just feels wrong, like"

In the Deri, Kath and Kelly are pondering the offer;  “I mean, I want Auntie Anita to have the best event ever, but something just feels wrong, like,” says Kelly.

"We don't have to like them to take their money"

The way Kath looks at it is, “We don’t have to like them to take their money, do we?   Neither of us trust Quantum Hydro Works, but why don’t we get them to sort out the insurance and things like that?

"We can organise what happens on the day"

“We can organise what happens on the day.”

"I hope they'll go with this"

Hywel is watching anxiously from the bar and hopes that they will go with the suggestion;

"Looks like we're going to find out"

Eleri thinks that an answer is about to be disclosed.

"We've decided to accept your offer"

Kelly folds her arms in a meaningful way;  “Right, we’ve discussed it and we’ve decided to accept your offer – it was a majority vote, because Lleucu left.”

"That's great"

Hywel is very relieved to hear this,

"Democracy is alive and well"

while Eleri sarcastically comments that democracy is alive and well.

"We want to make it absolutely clear . . ."

Then Kath takes over, “And that’s why we want to make it absolutely clear

". . . you have to do what we tell you"

“that you have to do what we tell you to organise, OK?   And we’ll organise the rest.”

"We don't want to organise the bunting"

Eleri remarks, “Don’t worry, Kath – we don’t want to organise the bunting.”   Kelly stresses that they are serious and that it is a carnival for the village.

"That doesn't mean it can be a great carnival"

Hywel points out that does not mean it cannot be a great carnival at the same time.

Kelly still does not trust them

Kelly appears to still be harbouring a few doubts.

"How did you find me?"

In the churchyard, in front of Brandon’s grave, Britt is arranging the flowers which Colin brought.   “How did you find me?” she asks.

"This is where you always come"

He replies that this is where she always comes when she is upset or angry.

"He was the most sensible one of us"

“He was the most sensible one of us all, you see,” she sighs,

"That's not saying much"

but Colin does not think that says much.   “I’d do anything to have him back,” she goes on.

"I'd do anything to have you back"

He assures her that he would do anything to have her back as well,

"You're better off without me"

but she considers that he is better off without her;  “Everyone’s friends now – everyone’s moved on.”

"We've only started to move on"

He corrects her that they have only started to move on;  it is a matter of small steps, especially for Dani;  “It’s much better to talk openly then to keep everything inside and run away.”

"Like I'm doing, you mean?"

“Like I’m doing, you mean?” and again he begs her to come home, because he misses her – and so does Kylie.   He loves Britt’s new hair and misses her terribly.

"If you sneak out to see Cai Rossiter"

However, she insists, “I’m not coming back if you’re going to sneak out to see Cai Rossiter behind my back!”

"Right, I'll tell you exactly when I'm going"

“OK, right, from now on, I’ll tell you exactly when I’m going to see him, but you have to promise not to get angry.”

"I'll try, Colin"

Britt says that she will try.

"It went fine"

Rhys is back from his trip to Neath and tells his father that it went fine, then goes to the bar for a drink.

Eleri wonders how he will react to them taking more control of the carnival.   Hywel predicts that he will be relieved that his father has managed to persuade the committee in his place.

"He hasn't got his father's skills of persuasion"

She remarks, “He hasn’t got his father’s skills of persuasion,”

"Is that a compliment?"

which he believes is a compliment, but is told that he is still on probation.

"You did handle earlier very well"

She does concede that he did handle earlier very well.   “And now we can organise this carnival just the way we want – the committee don’t know what they want, Hywel.

"We're in charge now"

“We’re in charge now – and there’s nothing Merched y Wawr [the Welsh Women’s Institute] can do about it!”

"I don't think he'll be happy"

Hywel looks across at Rhys sitting by the bar;  “I don’t think he will be happy when he finds out.”

"Your job is to make sure Rhys does not cause problems"

Eleri does not care, pointing out that Hywel’s most important job in this carnival is to make sure that Rhys does not cause problems.

"I don't want us to fall out"

Dani is back at Maes-y-Deri and is accompanied by Lleucu;  Dani does not want them to fall out, as Gabriel is upstairs.   “I was just angry and upset,”explains Lleucu,

"Come here"

which Dani appreciates.

"I'm so sorry"

“And I’m so sorry,” she goes on.

Is this the end of the enmity?

Dani’s reaction is to hug her.
