Howard comes out of APD

Howard comes out of APD with miscellaneous mops and Siwsi follows him, showing him the list which Anita has left for her to do,

"She hasn't bothered to turn up this morning"

“And she hasn’t bothered to turn up this morning!   I feel like the one who will have to do everything.”

"Yeah – right"

Howard takes a look at the list, which stretches to both sides of the paper;  he finds it rather excessive

"Can I ask you something?"

and she would like to ask him something, but, before she can do so,

"Can you help with a stock-take?"

Mathew comes out and asks her to help with a stock-take this afternoon.

Then he catches a glimpse of Sioned

Then he notices Sioned pushing the pram out of the alley and over the crossing;

"You haven't seen me – understand?"

“Listen, I’m out on a job – you haven’t seen me –  understand?” he tells them and then hides in the shop.

"Is he always like that?"

“Is he always like that?” Siwsi asks

"He certainly has been recently"

Howard replies that he has been recently.   Then Sioned arrives and Siwsi admires the twins.

"They weren't so cute at three this morning!"

Sioned complains that they were not cute at three o’clock this morning.

"Sorry – he's out this morning"

When she asks if Math is there, Siwsi repeats what he had told her.  “Can you ask him to phone me when he gets back, please?”

They looks at each other

Howard and Siwsi look at each other.

Lleucu comes out of the shop

Lleucu is coming out of the shop just as Dani and Gabriel are crossing the road;

"You can pick whatever you like"

Dani tells the boy to go into the shop and he can pick whatever he likes.   She would like to have a word with Lleucu.

"Look about last week . . ."

“Look, about last week,” she begins,

"I have to go"

but Lleucu quickly walks away, seeking the sanctuary of the alley,

She bursts into tears

where she breaks down in tears.

"I was sure I had enough money"

In the deli, Anita is looking concerned as she finds that she does not have as much money in her purse as she thought.   “You can pay by card if you want,” says Eileen, but Anita was sure that she had enough cash.

"That Kelly steals from me"

“Kelly!” she exclaims, “She steals from me – she thinks I don’t know, but she does it all the time.”

"You probably forgot you spent it"

Eileen is of the opinion that Anita probably forgot that she spent the money, but Anita will not have this.

"I'll have to take my purse to bed with me"

“You know what?   I think I’ll have to take this purse to bed with me at night and hide it under the pillow.

"If she comes in here, watch out!"

“If she comes in here, watch out, because she can’t be trusted.”

Eileen is horrified

Eileen is horrified as Anita leaves the deli.

"You can trust me, Siwsi"

In APD, Howard has treated Siwsi to a cake from the deli, which she says was lovely;  he can tell that she is worried about something and assures her that he can trust her.

"Do you think Anita has a problem with me?"

“Do you think Anita has a problem with me?” says Siwsi, “Because she treats me differently to you lot – she gets angry and insists I’m not doing things right, even though I do them exactly like she asked.”

"Anita would never . . ."

As Howard tells her that Anita would never . . . unfortunately, Anita walks in and knows that they are talking about her.

"Would you like a cake?"

Siwsi tries to defuse the situation by offering her a cake, which were the first ones that Tamed sold this morning.

“Well, this is nice, isn’t it?” rages Anita, “Not only are you lazy,

"Dragging down a good worker like Howard"

“now youre dragging down a good worker like Howard!”

"Howard went to get the cupcakes"

Siwsi points out that Howard went to get the cupcakes, which rather takes the wind out of Anita’s sails, so she turns to another subject;  “Have you done everything on the list I gave you?”

"You're here to help now"

“No, not yet – but you’re here to help now, luckily,” says Siwsi.   Anita immediately maintains that she has a lot of paperwork to do.   “On your backside?   I’ve been trying my best – and I’ve had enough!

"Where have you been all morning?"

“Where have you been all morning?”

Anita says that she has been busy, so Siwsi demands, “Doing what?

"You're the one who does nothing"

“You say I’m lazy, but you’re the one who does nothing around this place – you’re useless!”

Anita is taken aback

Anita is very upset by this outburst

"Shut up, will you?"

and shouts, “Shut up, will you?” before storming out of the shop.

Siwsi was not expecting that

Siwsi is stunned by this.

There is  knock . . .

Cai is sitting in his hospital room (named the Willow Room) when there is a knock at the door
. . . and Dani arrives

and Dani comes in.   He invites her to sit down;
"I was shocked to hear you wanted to come"

“I was shocked to hear that you wanted to come here – but I’m glad – how are you?”

"You need to sort her out, Cai"

Dani replies, “I’m only here because of Lleucu – you need to sort her out, Cai,” which he finds puzzling.

"You don't think Kelly is stealing from her?"

“But it was so strange,” says Eileen, “You don’t think Kelly is stealing from her, do you?   So why would Anita say such a thing?

"Perhaps you should warn Kelly"

“Perhaps you should warn Kelly.”

"You don't know – she's got dementia"

Sioned points out that there is no need, realising that her mother does not know about Anita;  “She’s got dementia, Mam – and this business of thinking that people are stealing from her is one of the symptoms.”

"That happened to,Jim"

Eileen remembers that something similar happened with Jim;  “He started to obsess about money –

"Poor Anita – and Kelly and Ieuan"

“poor Anita – and Ieuan and Kelly, too.”

"I'm not supposed to tell anyone"

She is cautioned not to say anything because Sioned does not believe she is supposed to tell anyone.

Sioned looks at her phone

“I don’t want Anita to think we are gossiping,” says Sioned, as she looks at her phone.

"No – nothing important"

Her mother imagines that she is expecting an important call, but Sioned denies this.

"I didn't know what the stalker would do next"

“I was so scared,” Dani tells Cai, “I didnt know what the stalker would do next – hurt me, or do something to Gabs.”

"She didn't do that"

Cai points out that she did not do anything like that,

"She did a lot more"

but Dani continues, “She did a lot more than just phone and text me – she created a dating profile for me online, sent me a star shaped balloon, organised for me to clean this man’s house who she knew had sexually assaulted me.   And – the cherry on top – she phoned social services!   They took Gabs away from me for a night.”

Cai is concerned by this

Cai finds this news exasperating

"I'm worried about her"

as Dani goes on, “Cai, I’m worried about her – she obviously still blames me for you being here.”

"I'll have a word when I get out of here"

He agrees that he will have a word with her when he is out of there,

"You need to do something now"

but she wonders when that will be, insisting that he needs to do something now.

"Ah, look at them"

Eileen looks at the baby monitor, with its picture of the sleeping twins;  “Ah, look at them – they change every day, don’t they?

"Is there anything wrong?"

“Is there anything wrong?   You don’t usually invite me up for dinner.”

"Things and not great with Mathew"

Sioned confesses that things are not great with Mathew, who will not talk to her;  “Well, not properly.   We haven’t quarrelled – that’s the thing – but since his mother turned up in the village last week

"She was here?"

“ – and I only found out because Anita told me –

"He gets angry with me"

“every time I try to talk to him about her, he either changes the subject or gets angry with me.”

"It must be difficult for him"

Her mother appreciates that it must be difficult after not seeing her for so many years and Sioned is just anxious to help him and support him.

"I think he's hiding something"

She thinks that he is hiding something.

Now Cai has another visitor . . .

Cai sits quietly, thinking, when someone else comes into his hospital room;

. . . who is overjoyed to see him

this time it is Lleucu, who is overjoyed to see him.

"Hiya, mwnci"

He gets up and greets her, “Hiya, monkey,”

He hugs his daughter

giving her a hug.

“I almost cried earlier when the nurse phoned – you look so healthy,” she tells her father.

Then the door opens . . .

The door opens again and Dani comes in with some coffee;

. . . and Lleucu has a shock

Lleucu turns and looks at her with concern.

Cai revels to his daughter, “She’s told me everything.”

She is temporarily speechless

Lleucu cannot think of anything to say.

"Your relationship is quite new"

Eileen continues, “I understand that you want to help him, but you have to respect the fact he’s not ready to discuss something so personal yet – and your relationship is quite new, isn’t it?”

"We've been friends for years"

Sioned stresses that they have been friends for years.

"Being patient doesn't come easily to you"

“I know that being patient does not come easily to you, but trust him to talk about his mother when he is ready,” Eileen advises.

Mathew comes in

At that moment, Mathew walks in

"I was just leaving"

and Eileen thinks that it is about time for her to go.   He has heard at least some of that conversation

"Do you have to tell everyone about me?"

and demands, “Do you have to tell everyone about me?”

"She's not 'everyone'!"

Sioned responds, “She’s not ‘everyone’ – she’s my mother.   And what could I tell her anyway?   I don’t know anything, because you won’t talk to me.

"Can we sit down and discuss this?"

“Can we please sit down and discuss this properly before the twins wake up?”

"I'm going to have a lie down"

Mathew announces that he is going to have a lie down, because he did not sleep well last night.

Sioned is left shaking her head

Sioned simply shakes her head.

"Why did she see you before me?"

Lleucu asks her father, “Why would you let her come and see you before me?”

"Because she's worried about you"

He explains, “Dani is here because she is worried about you.”   Lleucu is very doubtful about that, rather suspecting that she came here to stir things up.   “Do you deny everything, then?” Cai asks.

"She deserved it!"

“No – but she deserved it for everything she’s done to you!”

"I took those tablets – it was nothing to do with Dani"

He makes it clear to her that he took those tablets and it was nothing to do with Dani.   They are lucky that she agreed not to report Lleucu to the police.

"They made your life hell!"

“You’re here because she and her family made your life hell,” Lleucu insists,

"It's a lot more complicated than that"

but he stresses that it is a lot more complicated than that.

"Is it something to do with me?"

“Is it something to do with me?” she asks him and he immediately assures her that it is not.   “Then why did you do what you did?”

"No – stay, Dani"

Dani suggests that she should leave now, but Cai forbids her from doing so.

“There were a lot of factors – but the main thing I couldn’t deal with was . . .

"It was my part in what happened to Seren"

“my part in what happened to Seren.”   It appears that he may be getting through to Dani, as he continues, “And I need you to believe me when I tell you that it was my decision to take those tablets.   I’m so sorry for the effect it’s had on you.

"We'll get through this properly this time"

“Lleucu, we’ll get through this properly this time, I promise.”

"I just want you to come home"

“I just want you to come home,” she whimpers

He hugs her once more . . .

and he hugs her once again.

. . . then looks across at Dani . . .

He looks at Dani,

. . . who takes it as her cue to leave

who takes the hint that it is time she went.

"Who does she think she is?"

Anita is with Howard in the deli;  “Who does she think she is?” she demands, “She said I don’t do anything – only because I asked her to do the dirty jobs, like cleaning the toilets and scrubbing the floors.”

"She thinks you've got s problem with her"

“She thinks you’ve got a problem with her,” Howard explains, but Anita insists that is not true, describing her as a good little worker.   “Yes, she is, so we don’t want to lose her,” he says.

Siwsi comes in

Just then, Siwsi comes in, informing them, “I really need this job,

"We have to sort this out"

“so whatever is going on between us, we have to sort it out.”   Anita is adamant that there is nothing going on.

“There must be a reason why you criticise everything I do,” Siwsi goes on, but Anita is again becoming upset

"I can't this now!"

and says that she cannot do this now.

She dashes out of the deli

She walks out in tears, meeting Eileen in the doorway, but Anita completely ignores her.

"She can't even sit at the same table as me"

“You see?   She can’t even sit at the same table as me,” Siwsi moans to Howard.

"It's not my place to tell you, but . . ."

“Listen, it’s not my place to tell you, but I think it would be better for Anita if you knew the truth.   I want you to promise not to show that you know, all right?   She’s ill.”

"What – just a headache?"

Siwsi dismisses it as just a headache,

"Dementia"

but is informed, “Dementia,”

This is a shock to Siwsi

which comes as a great shock.

Mathew places his key on the table

At Penrhewl, Mathew puts down a key on the table and Sioned looks very worried;  “Your key back,” he says.   She demands where he is going and he says that he is moving out;

"I'm sorry, but it's for the best"

“I’m sorry, but it’s for the best.”

"The best for who?"

“The best for who?” she demands, “This doesn’t make any sense – one minute things are great between us – the next you’re moving out without warning?

"Please just talk to me!"

“Please just talk to me!   I’m sorry if I’ve been putting too much pressure on you, but I’m just so worried about you, Math.   This is something to do with your mother, isn’t it?

"We can work through this together"

“Whatever it is, we can work through it together.”

"Sorry I can't"

He sadly shakes his head, saying that he is sorry, but he just cannot, then turns and walks out of the house,

Sioned does not know what to do

leaving Sioned distraught.

"Sorry I haven't been there for you"

Cai apologises to Lleucu, “Sorry I haven’t been there for you over the last few months – it’s not all right.   And I want you to know that the last thing I was trying to do was to push you away.

"I'm looking forward to coming home with you"

“I’m looking forward to coming home to you – and I’ve got plans, too – I’d like to go on holiday.   Perhaps go and see Mam and Twm in Dubai, if she’s willing.”

"I'd like that"

Lleucu would like that;  he says that he would also like to sort out the garden at Y Felin.

"I've been helping in the garden"

“I’ve been helping a little bit in the garden here and I enjoy it.”

"Who are you and what have you done with Dad?"

Lleucu laughs, asking, “OK, who are you and what have you done with Dad?   When are you coming home?”   He is not sure of that

"What am I supposed to do?"

and she wonders what she is supposed to do in the meantime.

"You can text or send me another letter"

“You can text me any time or send another letter,”

"You didn't answer the last one"

but she points out that he did not answer her last letter.   He promises that, from now on, he will answer them.

"You wanted to give me a row"

Lleucu tells him, “The only reason you wanted to see me today was to give me a row,”

"That's not true"

but he does not agree with that.   “Even Greta came to see you before me,” she goes on,

"If Dani hadn't turned up today . . ."

“And if Danny hadn’t turned up today, you wouldn’t have contacted me.”

"This might be enough for today"

“It won’t be long until I’m out, all right?   I’m so happy to see you again, Lleucu, but this might be enough for today.”

"You want me to go?"

She is surprised that he wants her to leave,

"It has been a long day"

so he explains that he is a bit tired and it has been a long day with everything.

She is not very happy about going, but on her way to the door,

"I am sorry for what I did to Dani"

she assures her father that she is sorry for what she did to Dani;  “I know I made everything worse.   You are going to get better, aren’t you?”

"I'll get better quicker if you behave yourself"

He confirms that he is getting better and he will do that quicker, knowing that she is behaving herself.

Lleucu burst into tears

She goes out into the corridor and bursts into tears.
