28 November 2024

Someone has sent Cheryl flowers . . .

A large bunch of flowers has just been delivered to Cheryl at Maes-y-Deri;

. . . with an enigmatic message . . .

she looks at the enclosed card and reads, ‘If you need a friend,’

. . . which makes her smile

which makes her smile.

Britt looks at the Western Post . . .

Britt comes out of the shop with a copy of the Western Post;

. . . and is outraged by what she sees

on the front she sees the headline, ‘Cae Glas owner jailed following ‘Barking Mad’ case.”   She immediately goes dashing off along the street.

"What was Diane thinking?"

Ffion is talking to Jinx in the High Street;  “I still can’t believe the way the vote went!   What was Diane thinking?”

"It was like lambs to the slaughter"

Jinx agrees, “It was like lambs to the slaughter – did you get hold of her afterwards?”   Ffion replies that she could not and neither is Diane answering her phone or e-mails.

"Forget the phones and e-mails"

“Forget about phones and e-mails,” he says,

Diane is approaching . . .

as he spots Diane coming into sight.

. . . but quickly diverts

When Diane sees them, she crosses the road and tried to avoid them, but Ffion will not let that happen, hurrying towards her.

"Too ashamed to take my calls, are you?"

“Diane!   Too ashamed to take my calls, are you?” she shouts

"Leave me alone, Ffion!"

She is abruptly told, “Leave me alone, Ffion!” but FF insists that she has every right to ask.

"I don't have to talk to anyone!"

Diane is equally adamant, “I don’t have to talk to anyone if I don’t want to!”

Ffion simply explains that they want to know why she changed her mind, and Diane asks who is this ‘we’?

"It will be the end of us, thanks to you!"

“The village you’ve just agreed to drown underwater,” Ffion snarls, “It will be the end of us, thanks to you – it will be on your conscience for ever.”

She gets the distinct impression that there is something that Diane is not telling her, then she finally learns what it is;

"I was blackmailed"

“I was blackmailed,” Diane mutters, before she walks away.

"Yes, we're fine, Mam"

Sioned is speaking on a video call to her mother in the prison;  “Yes, we’re fine, Mam,” she alleges, as she holds one of the twins.   “The two of them slept four hours straight last night.”

"Are they feeding all right?"

Eileen ask if they are feeding all right;  “Whoever thought of formula deserves their place in heaven!” replies Sioned.   Eileen considers it a pity that Sioned has not managed to breastfeed as she did and enquires whether she is on top of everything with the businesses.   She mentions that Tamed’s VAT needs to be done next week.

"It's all under control here"

Sioned tries to give the impression that everything is under control, and asks how her mother is;  Eileen says that she is great.

Howard surveys the scene of devastation"

At that moment Howard walks in and looks around at the state of the room.

"Lili has just been sick"

Sioned appears very worried and moves the laptop, so that her mother will not see him.   She makes up the excuse that Lili has just been sick, so she will have to go.

"If you want anything done, do it yourself"

Eileen’s time is also nearly up and she reminds her daughter, “If you want anything done, you’ll have to do it yourself – you can handle that, can’t you?”

"Has a bomb gone off in here or what?"

Then they lose the connection, as Howard comments, “Has a bomb gone off in here or something?”

This is all that Sioned needed

Sioned’s problems are further confounded by the arrival of a very angry Britt.

“Your mother’s in the tabloids!” she announces,

"What does this have to do with you?"

but Sioned demands what that has to do with her.   “Cae Glas’s name is being dragged through the mud – as I own 5% of it, it is my business, Sioned!

Britt goes off the deep end again

No, we need to do something about this – a complete rebranding – and quick!”

Sioned in temporarily lost for words

Sioned simply stands there, open-mouthed.

Cheryl has already purchased a bottle of wine and emerges from The Pizza Place with, surprisingly enough, a pizza.

"Wine – fancy!"

Tom happens to be passing and remarks, “Wine – fancy!”   She points out that it is pay-day and he asks if she likes the flowers, which she obviously was unaware came from him.

"I thought it was Cassie"

She had assumed that it was Cassie.

“I thought they’d cheer you up after Mark left at short notice,” he says;  when she maintains that she is fine,

"Well, I could take them back"

he suggests that he could take them back.   She has to go, as she has a date with the telly,

"Thanks for the flowers"

but thanks him for the flowers

Anita and Ieuan have suddenly returned

At number 7, Kelly is packing a rather small case when Anita and Ieuan return unexpectedly.   “You’re not supposed to be back until next week,” says Kelly,

"The weather was terrible – and the food was worse!"

but apparently the weather was terrible – and Anita regarded the food as worse.

"Coming back to stay here, are you?"

“So you’re coming back to stay here, are you?” assumes Kelly.

Ieuan says that his tenants are still in Mami’s house, so they thought they would – if it is all right.   He can see that she is going somewhere and Kelly explains that she is going away for a few weeks;  “Portugal tomorrow and then, don’t know, we’ll see.

"All right, Grandad?"

“I’ll give you a ring when I’ve arrived – all right, Grandad?”

Anita is very preoccupied

Anita is looking puzzled as she stares at something in her hand;

"I wonder if that is a good idea"

Ieuan wonders if Kelly’s plan is a good idea.

"Excuse me – I'm not a child!"

“Excuse me – I’m not a child!” squeals Kelly, “I just thought I needed a break after the stress of the last few weeks!”

"I'm proud of the way you stood up to Eileen"

Anita can quite understand that;  “And I’m very proud of you, the way you stood up to Eileen!”

Kelly will continue with her packing

Kelly will get on with her packing.

Sioned is almost asleep on her feet

Siôn comes out of the shop, also having purchased a copy of the Western Post;  he sees an exhausted Sioned walking towards him with the double buggy.   When he mentions the paper, she urges him not to do so;

"But if this appeal's successful . . ."

“Britt was over, preaching, earlier, saying I need to rebrand Cae Glas.   But if this appeal’s successful, I won’t need to, will I?”

Siôn has become pessimistic about that

Siôn is no longer so confident about it;  “I’ve been looking into the appeal – it could be an expensive process and it could take a while – your mother might be out by then.”

"I know she's not fine"

“Not quickly enough!” Sioned groans, “I talked to her earlier – she said she was fine, but I know she’s not.

"Who knows what sort of women in in there?"

“Who knows what sort of women are in there with her?”

Again Siôn will do everything to help that he can;

"I just want everyone to leave me alone"

“At the moment, I just want everyone to leave me alone,” Sioned sighs, “Sorry,”

She continues along the street

and she continues along the street.

At Deri Fawr, Diane is explaining

Ffion and Jinx have taken Diane back to Deri Fawr;  they ask her what happened.

"I got an e-mail last week"

“I got an e-mail last week – I don’t know who it came from.”   She looks it up on her phone

"What did it say?"

as Ffion asks what it said.

"What's to stop you going to the police?"

Diane suddenly pauses and asks, “What’s to stop you going to the police?   There’s a lot on the line here.”   However, Ffion insists that she has to tell them, as she does not have much choice.

"McSorley – who is that?"

Diane hands the phone to Jinx, who reads the name McSorley – which is in the address,

"Is what this says true?"

but neither of them are familiar with that name.   “Is what this says true?” Ffion asks, “Did you take Jason’s points?”

"Another three points and he would have lost his licence"

Diane confesses that she did;  “Another three points and he would have lost his licence – what was I supposed to do?   Jason can’t afford to lose his licence, not with his job.   And he has to go and see Ifan –

"You would have done same for Arwen"

“you would have done the same for Arwen.”

Cheryl has polished off half the pizza

Cheryl is drinking the wine and has made inroads into the pizza;  she turns off the television and just then there is a knock at the door.

"You missed your 'side'"

She discovers that it is Tom again, with the excuse that she has missed her ‘side’.

"I didn't order it"

She informs him that she did not order it;  “It comes with every pizza, according to Jinx,” he replies, “How’s the party going?

"Are you going to offer me a glass?"

“Are you going to offer me a glass, or do I have to pour it myself?   Come on – one drink won’t kill us, will it?”

"You'd better sit down"

She invites him to sit down and goes to fetch another glass;

Things appear to be going to plan

he sits down on the sofa, looking very smug.

"You know – ships passing in the night"

Kelly comes downstairs, apologising to Auntie Anita that her timing is rubbish, “You know – ships passing in the night and all that.   I just really need a break from this place.   Have you seen my international charger?”

"Have you looked at home?"

“It wouldn’t be here, would it?   Have you looked at home?” says Anita, “Do you want me to come with you?”

"You what?"

Kelly does not know what she is talking about, so Anita goes on,

"The café flat – are you all right, Kelly?"

“The café flat!   Are you all right, Kelly?”

"Are you all right?"

Kelly asks her the same thing.   Ieuan has just come downstairs

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry"

and Anita sinks to a chair, repeatedly saying that she is sorry.

"What's going on?"

Kelly wants to know what is going on.

Expensive way to drink tea

Siôn buys a takeaway tea from MFC and is charged £2.50;

"What do you really want, Siôn?"

“What do you really want?   Because it isn’t tea.   I know you, Siôn - come on,” says Britt.

"I feel you were a little unfair with Sioned"

“Well, I feel that you were a little unfair with Sioned this morning – asking her to deal with Cae Glas, on top of everything else,” he points out.

Tabloids?   It's only the Western Post!

“Cae Glas has been named in the tabloids!” she insists, “So that does affect me in the end.”

"Why did you contact Sioned?"

He wonders why she contacted Sioned;  “You know how hard it is having a new baby, never mind two!”

"Who am I supposed to contact – her in jail?"

Britt demands who she is supposed to contact, then;  “Her in jail?”

"You should come to me"

Siôn instructs her to come to him, as he is in constant communication with Eileen.

“Oh, let’s get this right now – so I should let you stick your big nose into my business?” asks Britt, “No thank you, Siôn – I’ll phone the prison myself – but you could do one thing for me – tell Sioned I want my money before December!

"Tell her I want the money before the end of the week!"

“Actually, tell Sioned I want my money before the end of the week!

"Hallelujah – miracles are possible!"

“Hallelujah – miracles are possible!”

"Parading around in your shell suit"

At Maes-y-Deri, Cheryl and Tom are recalling the old days;  “I remember you parading around Rhos in your shell suit,” she laughs, which he points out were fashionable in those days.   “You thought you were so cool.”

"You've hardly changed since school"

He looks at her and declares, “You’ve hardly changed since school, you know.”

"You need an eye test!"

She maintains that he needs an eye test.

"No, honestly, you're exactly the same"

“No, honestly, you’re exactly the same.   Leaving Wrexham has given me a new perspective;  working for the police made me ill – the stress, the work pressure.

"I've been so much better since starting this job"

“I’ve been so much better since starting this job – a new opportunity.”

“And a new name!” she reminds him.   He tells her that he would do things very differently now.”

"Right – party's over now"

Cheryl considers this a good opportunity to announce that the party is over;  now she wants to watch Star Trek.

"Has Worf found out yet about his son?"

“Has Worf found out he’s got a son called Alexander yet?” asks Tom

"You've become a 'Trekkie'?"

and Cheryl is very surprised that he has become a ‘Trekkie’.   He admits that he was a little bit harsh in the past, but he gave it another chance and has now got into it;

She turns it back on . . .

“I enjoy it.”   He seems to have invited himself into joining her on the sofa to watch it.

. . . but is very suspicious

She looks rather askance at him.

"I didn't want to explain over the phone"

Anita is telling Kelly, “I didn’t want to explain to you over the phone – and it might be nothing to worry about, but this has happened several times now.”

"What's happened several times?"

Kelly is very anxious to learn what has happened several times;

"Seeing things that aren't there"

“I’ve been saying these things and seeing things that aren’t there.”   Kelly cannot quite get her head around this, so Anita continues, “I’ve been seeing things in the room that aren’t there.”

"Like hallucinating?"

“OK, like hallucinating?   And you were going to let me go without saying anything?” snaps Kelly.   Anita insists that there is nothing to say until they have had more information from the doctor.

"It might be just lack of sleep"

“And you never know – it might be tiredness and a lack of sleep – I haven’t been sleeping.”

"How can you act so normal?"

“You don’t seriously think that’s what it is, do you?” exclaims Kelly, “Sorry – how can you act so normal?

"Aren't you frightened?"

“This is massive – aren’t you frightened?”

"Of course I am, Kelly!"

Anita, shouts that of course she is frightened;  she is becoming upset now and Ieuan tells Kelly that is enough.   “It would have been easier if you’d gone to Portugal without knowing!” he growls,

"Now go and enjoy yourself!"

“Now go – and enjoy yourself!”

Kelly is distraught

Both Anita and Kelly are in tears.

Eleri comes along the street

Eleri walks along the street towards The Pizza Place, where Jinx is just leaving;  “Fancy seeing you here,” she remarks.

"Strange, seeing that I live here"

He replies that it is strange, seeing that he lives in the village and has a business here.

Brynmor is watching

Brynmor is coming out of the shop and looks across at them.

"Are you around tomorrow?"

“Are you around tomorrow?   The flat should be empty at some point,” Eleri continues,

"I'll text you"

“I’ll text you.”

Brynmor wants to turn this to his advantage

Brynmor has taken note of this.

"You made things worse, Siôn!"

Siôn is at Penrhewl, where Sioned wails, “I can’t get Britt the money by the end of the week – you made things worse, Siôn!

"If you want something done, do it yourself"

“Mam is right – if you want something done, you have to do it yourself.   You can go now – I’ve got work to do.”

"Just phone if you have a problem"

Siôn tells her to phone if she has a problem.

"So you can put me in a deeper hole?"

“So you can put me in a bigger hole – I don’t think so!” she replies.   Then she dials Britt’s number;  “Sioned here – about your money that’s tied up in Cae Glas –

"That's going to pay for this rebranding!"

“that’s going to pay for this rebranding you insist on having, OK?”

Howard arrives again

One of the twins is starting to cry as Howard comes in again;

"He wants a feed"

“Leave him – I’ll see to him now,” Sioned tells him.   Howard diagnoses that the baby wants a feed, but she snaps, “Leave him, I said!   And you tidied up in here as well, did you?”

"I'm only trying to help, Sioned"

Howard points out that he was just trying to help, but she makes it very clear that she did not ask for his help.   “Sioned, nobody has to struggle on their own,” he says,

"You can have your lunch in the shed from now on!"

but as she picks up baby Jac, she informs him that he can have his lunch in the shed from now on.

“You heard – I don’t want you here.   Mam would have a fit if she knew the bloke who put her in jail is walking around her home – so get out, Howard!”

Howard sadly leaves

He has a little choice but to do so.

Brynmor comes into Tomos ac Ellis, where Eleri is actually doing some work for once.   “Listen, I was thinking – are you home for dinner tonight?”

"That depends what's on the menu"

She answers that it depends on what is on the menu.

"I'm going to make 'spag bol'"

Her father is proposing to make ‘spag bol’.

"I'm sure you could twist my arm"

“I’m sure you could twist my arm to eat a few carbs,” she says,

"A special dinner for Kath"

but he goes on to explain that he was thinking of making a special dinner for Kath.   In that case, Eleri agrees to stay away, but that is not what Brynmor had in mind.

"I had plans, anyway"

“Don’t worry – I had plans, anyway,” she says.

"With Jinx?"

“With Jinx?” he enquires, “You two seem to be good friends – which is a good thing, because we need to keep people like Jinx on side, with regard to the dam scene.   You know, I’ve heard a lot of discussion about it and people are starting to ask awkward questions now, you know.”

"He's not in favour of the scheme"

is aware that Jinx is not in favour of the scheme,

"Well, keep him 'busy' for a few weeks"

so her father instructs her to keep Jinx ‘busy’ for a few weeks, just until everything is in place.

There is, apparently, a shortage of money

“One of the loans Quantum Hydro Works needs is on its way, but the council wasn’t happy to find out all that money had not quite arrived.”

"You're not going 'rogue' on me, are you?"

“Hywel yesterday and now this – you’re not going rogue on me, are you, Dad?” she asks.   He vigorously denies that, admitting that he should have talked to her before today,

"There's a lot on my mind at the moment"

but has a lot on his mind at the moment.

“The business with Kath – and the beating,” he explains, but before he leaves,

"It's my business and my business alone!"

Eleri makes it clear to him that it is her business and her business alone, if she spends time with Jinx.

Kelly is looking for her passport . . .

Kelly comes downstairs,

. . . and notices this wedding photo

takes her passport from the drawer and looks at the photograph of Anita’s and Ieuan’s wedding.

. . . which prompts the tears again

She is almost in tears as she returns upstairs.

"You don't have to pretend, you know"

They continue watching Star Trek, but Cheryl suspects that Tom is not enjoying it;  “You don’t have to pretend, you know,” she says, turning it off,

"So this is my cue to leave"

which he imagines is his cue to leave.   She confirms that is the case,

"Just another ten minutes?"

but he pleads for just another ten minutes and they wrestle over the remote control.

“You’re so annoying!” she complains and as they look into each other’s eyes,

"You still have freckles"

he comments that she still has freckles.

Cheryl goes to kiss him

She leans forward to kiss him, but he moves back and demands what she is doing.

"Yes, it is time I was going"

Then she realises that she should not have done it, while he considers it time that he should be going,

"Just forget about it, right?"

urging her to just forget about it.

She will have difficulty doing that

She wonders what is happening to her.
