Ieuan is fussing

As Kelly is pouring out the coffee for breakfast, Ieuan is fussing over preparing Anita her favourite breakfast, whisking avocado.

"Chill out, will you?"

“Chill out, will you?   This floor has seen enough avocado for one year, thank you very much!” Kelly complains, but he wants everything to be perfect for Anita.   Kelly doubts that she will have much appetite today, of all days.

"She'll need plenty of energy"

Anita comes downstairs as Ieuan insists, “She’ll need plenty of energy for the scan.”

"Something smells nice"

Anita comments that something smells nice;

"I'm making you favourite"

he informs her that he is making her favourite and coffee is on the way.

Then there is a knock at the door and Ieuan tell Kelly to go and answer it;  Anita maintains that she is all right, but Ieuan discovers that the visitor is Hywel.

"The jumble sale!"

“What are you doing here?” he irritably asks;  Hywel reminds him that it is the day of the jumble sale in Llanarthur Hall, which had completely escaped Ieuan’s notice, and they are supposed to be there in half an hour.

"Kelly will be with me"

Anita urges him to go, pointing out that Kelly will be with her.   “I’m not leaving you today,” he insists, but Hywel protests that he cannot go on his own.

"They've cancelled my appointment!"

Then Anita picks up her phone and exclaims, “Good heavens, you’re not going to believe this – they’ve cancelled my appointment!”   Then she adds, “Well, you know, postponed it until next week.”

"That's a disgrace!"

Ieuan is outraged by this, calling it a disgrace;  “How can they do that at the last minute?”

Kelly know what she is up to

Kelly, however, knows exactly what is going on,

"Go on — you'll be later!"

and Ieuan is persuaded to go or he will be late.

"No way would they cancel the appointment!"

As soon as they are out of the door, Kelly wants to know, “What was that all about?   No way would they cancel that appointment.”

"He was fussing so much, Kelly"

She is told that Ieuan was getting so wound up – he was fussing so much – and Anita just does not want a fuss today.

“He is mega highly-strung,” Kelly realises,

"So just you and me?"

“So just you and me?”   Anita stresses that she does not want any fuss;

"Yes, boss!"

“Yes, boss,” is the reply.

"Slow down, Kath"

In the Deri, Kath is sitting, thinking and Cassie remarks, “Slow down, Kath, we don’t want to open too early, do we?”   Kath apologises, pointing out that she has a lot on her mind.

"I've got a problem – Brynmor"

“I’ve got a problem, Cassie – Brynmor.   He wants us to go away for a while, to see if we can give things another go, you know – over Christmas!   I know the timing’s not right, but . . .”

"We've only just reopened this place"

Cassie cannot believe that she is considering going;  “We’ve only just reopened this place – and after everything he’s done?”   Kath knows all that, she appreciates that forgiving him will not be easy,

"I'm not ready to give up, yet"

but she is not ready to give up – not yet, anyway.

“It’s really hard, Cassie – if we can’t work out things this time, I’ll have to accept that, but after everything I’ve been through recently, I just feel I need to give us another chance – I have to!”

"Where does that leave the Deri?"

Cassie wants to know where this leaves the Deri and Kath has no idea;

"I have to put my own life before this place"

she simply knows that she has to put her own life before the place.

The jumble sale

The scene shifts to Llanarthur Village Hall for the jumble sale;

"I hope more people are coming"

“I hope more people are coming,” says Ieuan and Hywel was expecting to see more cars.   “Mind you, that might not be a bad thing,

"I'm not sure about selling Mama's stuff"

“because I’m not sure about selling some of Mami’s stuff – I feel guilty.   These, for example – she loved these.”   He picks up a box and Hywel predicts that someone else will love them – and they can make some money in the process.

“You haven’t got a heart, have you?” Ieuan demands

"Not when it comes to business"

and is told that when it comes to business, he has not.   Then Ieuan finds another box;  when he opens it and finds some china ornaments,

"They belonged to Mam-gu Clydach"

he exclaims, “You can’t sell these!   They belonged to Mam-gu Clydach – they’re family treasures!”

All that Hywel wants to know is, “Are they valuable?”   Ieuan imagines that they are worth a couple of hundred, but it does not matter as he is adamant that they are staying in the car,

"Philistine!"

describing his brother as a ‘Philistine’.

Kelly is ready to go . . .

Kelly comes downstairs at number 7, putting on her green coat;

. . . but there is no sign of Auntie Anita . . .

“I think we will need petrol on the way to the hospital, Auntie Neet, so if you’re ready to leave now . . .”   However, she finds that Anita is not there and the back door is wide open,

. . . so off Kelly goes

so she fears the worst and runs out to find her aunt.

Baby Lili . . .

Lili is lying on the floor in Bryntirion,

. . . is encouraged to sleep

with DJ trying to persuade her to go to sleep,

Jason sings lustily

when Jason comes in, singing loudly and is told to be quiet.   “You sound happy – have you won the lottery or something?”

"In a manner of speaking, I have"

He replies that in a manner of speaking, he has;  “This ‘manifestation’ must be working after all.”   DJ has no idea what he is talking about.   “Sara has said that I can go up there to spend Christmas day with them and Ifan!”

"What will your mother say?"

DJ is not sure what his mother will say when she finds out, but Jason considers that DJ has more to worry about than his mother.

"How are you going to cope without my help?"

“How are you going to cope without my help for a day?”

DJ maintains that he is a dab hand at this sort of thing now,

"Aren't I, Lils?"

“Aren’t I, Lils?”   Jason reminds him of the Christmas fair tomorrow, wondering who is going to look after ‘Lils’ while he will be playing Father Christmas?

"I told Siôn to carry on"

“That’s all sorted out – Siôn White was keen to play Father Christmas, so I told him to carry on.”   There is a knock at the door

"Siôn will send the children to sleep"

and as Jason goes to answer it, he predicts that Siôn will send all the children to sleep.

Sioned says she is feeling much better . . .

The visitor is Sioned, who assures DJ that she is feeling much better;

"And that's why I'm here"

“Jac is great, which is why I’m here.”

Anita stares vacantly . . .

In the Deri, Anita is sitting at a table, staring into space;

. . . and does not hear her phone

she does not respond to her phone ringing and,

Kelly locates her

as Kelly walks in, there is still no response.

"What are you doing?"

“What are you doing?” she demands.

"I can't go . . ."

Anita replies that she cannot go to the appointment;  “I haven’t been honest – I didn’t tell the doctor everything.”   Kelly sits down and asks why.   “I said, you know, that I was having trouble sleeping,

"What's wrong with me, Kelly"

“but I was frightened that telling her everything would make it all right – oh, I don’t know.   And I put my symptoms into this website . . . what’s wrong with me, Kelly?”

"It's a scary situation"

Kelly appreciates that it is a scary situation.

Hywel has been counting the takings

Outside the Jumble Sale, Hywel is counting a pile of notes when Ieuan comes out with a box;  “It’s been worth coming here today – we’ve made £200,” says Hywel.   Ieuan opens the car door to put what he is carrying inside and discovers that the box which was there earlier has gone.

"Where are Mam-gu Clydach's dogs?"

Where are the dogs?” he demands, “Mam-gu Cydach’s dogs?”   Hywel thought that he would be pleased, explaining that while Ieuan was talking in there,

"I had a word with the expert over there"

he had a word with an expert over there.

“So you’ve sold them?   I shall have to get them back then!”

Ieuan goes to get them back

He grabs the bundle of notes from Hywel’s hand and goes to see the so-called ‘experts’.

The transaction is quickly dealt with and Ieuan has the dogs back;

"What's wrong with you?"

“Is there something wrong with you?   We came here to make some money and we’ve made a loss!”

"You have no right to be angry!"

“You have no right to be angry with me after trying to sell these!” is Ieuan’s angry response.   Hywel snarls that his brother is hopeless with money, wondering whether he has a problem.

"A problem, no – a plan, yes!"

“A problem, no – a plan, yes!” says Ieuan.

"I'm ready for her to come home now"

“I’m sure you’ve done your best for her and I’m very grateful, but I’m ready for her to come home now,” says Sioned;

DJ does not agree with that

DJ has his doubts about that.   “Please don’t be difficult – surely you knew that this would be temporary.”

He sighs that of course he does not want to be difficult, but he does want what is best for Lili.

"Can you bring her back to Penrhewl?"

“So can you get her stuff together and bring her back to Penrhewl?” Sioned asks;

"Yes, all right"

he reluctantly agrees.

Jason is listening

Jason is listening to this from the kitchen.

Sioned leaves with Jac

After Sioned has left with Jac, Jason asks if DJ is all right;

"I know how you feel"

“I’m sorry – if it’s any comfort, I know how you feel, right –

Looks as if she has dozed off

“it’s not fair.”

"What's this big plan?"

When they arrive back at number 21, Hywel demands, “Are you going to tell me what this big plan is?”

"Laptops"

Ieuan explains that he has secondhand laptops, but is told that is not much of a plan,

"You have no idea about laptops"

because he has no idea about laptops.

"But you do!"

“But you do!   That’s where the plan comes in, you see – I buy them, then you do a refurb or upgrade them, then I sell them for double the price and we both make a profit.   It’s the least you can do after trying to sell those china dogs.”   Hywel agrees to the scheme,

"This could be the start of something big!"

while Ieuan considers that this could be the start of something big,

Hywel doubts that

but Hywel is not so sure about that.

DJ is looking at Lili

DJ is sitting by the flower bed outside APD, looking adoringly at Lili in her cot.   Howard comes out of the shop;

"Isn't she supposed to back in Penrhewl?"

“Isn’t Lili supposed to be back in Penrhewl” he asks and DJ does not think it is any of his business.

“I just know that Sioned is waiting for her,” says Howard;  DJ will take her back later.

"I shall be seeing more of her now that you"

“It must be odd to think I’ll be seeing more of her now than you,” sneers Howard.

 The next person to approach is Jason, who is told that Howard was just stirring, rubbing DJ’s nose in it about Lili.

"You've been fantastic with her"

“Hey, listen to me – from what I’ve seen, you’ve been fantastic during the time she’s been with you,

"Don't worry about it . . ."

 don’t worry about it –

". . . you have rights as a father"

“and remember, you've got rights as a father.”

"The situation here will be a little delicate"

In the Deri, Cassie tells Kath, “I do understand – although the situation here will be a little delicate, I also understand that there are more important things in life than the Deri Arms.

"I'll manage somehow"

“I’m not sure how yet, but I’ll manage here – somehow.”

"I have a lot of thinking to do"

Kath points out that she has a lot of thinking to do and is very grateful to Cassie.

Sioned is washing-up

Sioned is washing-up when she hears the front door close and DJ arrives with Lili;  she welcomes her daughter back and DJ explains that she has just settled.

"Are you sure you're OK to do this?"

“Listen, Sioned, are you sure that you’re OK to look after both of them on your own?”

"I knew you'd make a fuss"

She snarls that she knew he would make a fuss, but he points out that he was only offering to look after Lily until Sioned gets stronger, but she insists that she is strong enough now.

"You're here on your own"

He reiterates that she is here on her own and he is only trying to help.

"Howard is here"

“I’m not on my own – Howard is here,” she replies and he cannot believe that she is serious.   “He’s been a big help.”

"I have rights as a father"

DJ accuses her of winding him up now, reminding her that he has rights as their father.

"Nobody's taking them from me!"

Sioned jumps up and informs him, “Neither you or anyone else is going to take either of them from me!   Do you understand?”   He maintains that is not what he is saying, but only trying to help.

"I know exactly what you're trying to do"

“I know exactly what you’re trying to do – leave it, DJ!” she growls.

Anita and Kelly are back

Ieuan is sitting at the kitchen table in number 7 when Anita and Kelly return;

"Where have you been?"

“Where have you been?  Neither of you answered your phones,” he complains.

"It was easier to explain once we were back"

“It was easier to explain once we were back,” says Kelly.   Anita confirms that she did have the scan today that he thought was cancelled.

"You were so wound up"

She goes on that he was so wound up this morning and fussing that she just needed some calmness.   He seems rather aggrieved that she wanted Kelly there instead.

"This isn't about you, is it"

“I know this is difficult, but, in all honesty, this isn’t about you, is it?” Kelly tells him, “Results in a fortnight – and do you know what?

"Auntie Neet was a real trouper!"

“Auntie Neet was a real trouper!   I’m going to have a shower.”

"I should be apologising"

Anita tells Ieuan that she is the one who should be apologising, but he grumbles,

"There must be something wrong"

“There must be something wrong if you don’t want your husband there!”   She could see how stressed he was and this was making her feel worse – she was a nervous wreck already.

"I was worried you wouldn't be able to face it"

“I was worried that when we got to the hospital, you wouldn’t be able to face it.”   He tells her to forget about it, but she is not convinced

"I thought I had a good 'poker face'!"

and he comments that he thought he had a good poker face.

The results will be back in about a fortnight and he is determined that he will be with her for that,

'If you want me to be"

“If you want me to be – I’ll understand if you don’t.”

"I shall need you there"

She agrees that she will need him there

"I may have a long road ahead of me"

and is afraid that she may have a long road ahead of her.

"How did it go today?"

“Anyway, how did it go today?” Anita asks

"We're selling secondhand laptops"

 he replies that he and Hywel have started a new business, selling secondhand laptops.   He does not seem to want to say much about the selling, except for the fact that his idiot brother sold his Mami’s stuff much too cheaply.

"Be grateful that someone was stupid enough to buy it"

“Well, just be grateful that someone was stupid enough to buy it,” she comments.

He points out that now they will have more room in the house when they move back.   “We can’t be here under Kelly’s feet for ever, can we?   Don’t worry, I’ll make the changes you want to Mami’s house using the money from the laptops.”

Anita does not seem to welcome this news.

Sioned is exhausted . . .

Sioned, looking rather exhausted again, places the baby monitor on the sideboard

. . . and flops down on the sofa

and collapses on the sofa, but at that moment the door opens

"Right, I've finished for today"

and Howard comes in, having finished work for today.

"They're asleep upstairs"

She reports that the twins are both asleep upstairs,

"The family is complete again"

and Howard is pleased that the family is complete again, also that she is happy.

"They're from Social Services"

That all changes when there is a knock at the door and he goes to answer it;  two people from social services arrive

Sioned is horrified

and Sioned is horror-stricken.
