30 December 2024

25 December 2024 (2nd)

He appears to have killed Cheryl . . .

As Tom cradles the motionless Cheryl in his arms,

. . . and is sobbing, unconsolably . . .

he is crying,

. . . when Cassie and Mark arrive

but at that moment Cassie’s car arrives outside.   Mark stares at the house,

"You've got an aeroplane to catch"

so Cassie reminds him that he has an aeroplane to catch;  “Go and get her,” she urges.

He walks to the front door

He goes to the front door and bangs on it,

Tom is in a panic

which causes even more panic for Tom inside, wondering what he is going to do.   Then comes Mark’s voice,

"Cheryl – are you there?"

“Cheryl – are you there?   It’s me – I just want a chat before you go.”

Tom must think quickly

Tom has to work out what he is going to do, as the knocking continues;  “Cher, are you in there?   Listen, I have to go, I just want to say so long.”

Mark looks at Cassie

Mark turns round and looks helplessly at Cassie,

Tom hurries to the window . . .

but meanwhile, Tom has hurried to the window and peers through the blind.

. . .where Cassie sees him . . .

Cassie is watching intently and sees him do this,

. . . and springs into action

so she immediately gets out of the car.   She in turn, batters on the door,

"Tom, open the door!"

shouting, “Tom, open the door – I’ve just seen you!”

Then she snarls at Mark, “You can’t be polite with scumbags like him!”

"I want to see Cheryl now!"

The door opens and she forces her way inside, insisting, “I want to see Cheryl now!”

"That's not possible – she's gone!"

Tom puts on a show of tears, sobbing, “That’s not possible – I went upstairs and when I came down, she was gone – I don’t know where – she was just gone!   She’s taken her case and everything.

"Was there a key with that keyring?"

“I thought you might know something – was there a key with that keyring?”

"She wouldn't leave without saying anything"

Mark is adamant that she would not leave without saying anything;  it does not make sense.

Cassie glances round the place . . .

Cassie looks around and sees two plates of food,

Two plates of food

including Yorkshire puddings, on the table,

"That's what she does"

as Tom continues, “That’s what she does – she packs her things and goes, leaving a mess behind!”

"I don't believe she'd do that"

Mark does not believe that she would do that, but Tom insists that is what she always does.   Mark takes out his phone to ring her number, but is invited to leave a message after the tone.

"Cheryl, I need to know you're OK"

“Cheryl, I need to know that you’re OK – phone me, will you, please?” he says.

Cassie knows that Tom is hiding something

Cassie is still extremely suspicious.

"All right, I'll hone them now"p

At number 7, Ieuan has an angry phone call from Hywel;  “All right, I’ll phone them now, don’t worry.   Yes, see you later.”

"Lovely to see you two brothers getting  so well"

“Lovely to hear two brothers getting on so well together,” comments Kelly,

"Some of the laptops were faulty"

he reveals that they have had complaints that some of the laptops they sold were faulty, so people want their money back.   Meanwhile, Kelly is stuffing herself with chocolates.

“They gave them to their children as Christmas presents,” Ieuan goes on.

"You've spoilt Christmas for loads of kids, like"

“So, essentially, you’ve spoiled Christmas for loads of kids, like!” Kelly summarises.

"Slow down on those chocolates"

He tells her to slow down on those chocolates as they are eating in half an hour,

"I'd be happy to have a turkey sandwich"

but Anita is not keen on going;  she would be happy to have a turkey sandwich and crisps there,

"I've already promised"

but Ieuan has already promised.

“You’ve promised,” Kelly emphasises, so he predicts that it will be fun

He gives Anita another present . . .

and presents Anita with another Christmas present.   Kelly protests, “You’re  supposed to be skint, like!”

. . . a bathroom brochure

Anita is rather underwhelmed to discover that the ‘present’ is a very thick brochure of new bathrooms.

“I remember you saying that you didn’t like the fact that Mami used to use the toilet in the en-suite,

"We can have a refurb before we move back in"

so we can have a refurb before we move back in.

"Flush – get it?"

“So what you’re saying is that you’re ‘flush’ all of a sudden, are you?   Flush – get it?” laughs Kelly, “Sorry – couldn’t resist!”

Ieuan informs them that they have to be at the Deri in half an hour and he is going to find his Christmas tie;

They return to their chocolates

the two of them get stuck into more chocolates.

"Cheryl's tricked us all"

Tom is still putting on his show about Cheryl tricking them all;  “You, me and Gaynor!”   Cassie is convinced that this is something to do with him, while Mark wonders if she just went for a walk or something.

"Her case is gone!"

“Her case is gone!” Tom alleges, “Her clothes, charger, important things!”

"Do you think she's gone to the Deri?"

“Do you think she’s gone to the Deri?” Cassie suggests;  Tom maintains that he would like to know if they see her.   They leave the house

Tom is getting desperate

and Tom is getting desperate to know what to do in order to cover up his crime.

Siôn clears up all the wrappings

At Y Felin, Siôn is collecting up all the wrapping paper and is told that Greta is upstairs on her iPad.

"That's a bit advanced for you, Iolo"

Iolo suggests that the book he is holding could also go in the rubbish;  ‘Plumbing Made Easy’, which Lleucu maintains is a bit advanced for him.   He tells Cai that he needs to sort his daughter out.

"I'm going to test my new trainers"

She is now going out to give her new trainers a test – and to get some peace.

Siôn takes the rubbish out

Siôn will also go for a walk after he has put the rubbish out the back.

"Have you seen this?"

When they are left alone, Cai shows Iolo something on his phone;  “Have you seen this?” he asks;  Iolo looks rather shocked.

"OK – you still have time"

Outside Maes-y-Deri, Cassie and Mark get back in the car;  “OK, you still have time,” she says, but he is refusing to go now.   He knows that there is something wrong, as Cheryl would never disappear like that.

He does not know what has happened,

"You don't think he's done something to her?"

but asks, “You don’t think he’s done something to her, do you?”   Cassie appreciates that he is a terrible man, but . . .   She decides that they are now going back to the Deri to see if Cheryl is there.

"My business partner was supposed to contact you"

Hywel is on the receiving end of another complaint about laptops;  “My business partner was supposed to get in touch – thank you for understanding –

"I hope it hasn't spoilt your Christmas"

“I hope it hasn’t spoilt your Christmas.”   Then he mutters, “I’ll kill him!”

Gaynor is approaching and he asks if she has heard anything;

Gaynor blames Hywel

“No, she didn’t answer – this is your fault – you planted the stupid idea in my head!

"Please don't say anything about the DNA test"

“And please don’t say anything to anyone about the DNA test – not until I’ve spoken to Cheryl.”

"Would you like to join us for dinner?"

He asks if she would like to join them for dinner in the Deri and she agrees to pop in later.

"Siôn's going to be furious!"

Iolo is now showing the video to Lleucu, who finds it hilarious, but warns that Siôn is going to be furious.   She is warned to keep it under her hat,

"Come on – out with it!"

but Siôn is just walking into the room;  “Come on, out with it!” he demands.

"Please don't let this spoil things"

“Please don’t let this spoil things, because we’re having a good day,” begs Iolo, but Siôn is looking at the video

A reminder of who was taking the video one the 19th

taken by the unknown villager of the little ‘fracas’ in the street the other day.

All the action is shown

Britt’s voice can be heard, shouting, “Leave him alone!” and the video captures all the action.

"The Monks have done this!"

Siôn jumps to the conclusion that this is the work of the Monks, although Iolo points out that they have no idea who is responsible.   Cai seems to agree with Siôn’s evaluation, but Siôn suspects that Lleucu might have also been involved.

"Did you and Gwern do this?"

“You obviously find it funny – did you and Gwern do this?” demands Siôn.   “I’m a laughing stock – you and the Monks are making fun of me!”

"Iolo was laughing as well!"

Lleucu is quick to point out that Iolo was laughing at it as well – and he is not being accused.

"It is quite funny, isn't it?"

When his father glowers at him, Iolo is forced to admit, “Sorry, Dad, but it is quite funny, isn’t it?”

Siôn storms upstairs

Siôn cannot believe this and storms off upstairs, while Lleucu comes to the conclusion that it escalated a bit.

"Welcome to Christmas at our house"

“Yes, welcome to Christmas at our house,” sighs Iolo.

"The police won't do anything"

Back at the Deri, Mark wonders if they should report the matter to the police, but Cassie points out that they

will do nothing anyway, as it is too early.   “It might be a misunderstanding and she’ll be back.”

"I'm not going back to Spain"

“Where is she, then, Cas?   If she were coming, she’d be here now.   I’m not going to Spain until I know where she is.”

"Why are you still here, Mark?"

Hywel wants to know why Mark is still there;

"He's worried about Cheryl – and so am I"

he is told that Mark is not going now because he is worried about Cheryl and so is Cassie.

Cassie says, “She’s disappeared from Cwmderi – it doesn’t make sense – she might not be Gaynor’s sister, but why would she deceive everyone?”

"I'll get the cranberry sauce"

Hywel will go and get the cranberry sauce.

Tom is replaying events in his head

Tom is sitting at the dinner table, with the cold meal still in place;  he can hear Cheryl’s words going round in his head, “I’m not sure I want to go to Wrexham with you.”

This is followed by his own voice, assuring her that, “We are meant to be together – I’ll treat you like a princess.”

Then Cheryl’s voice;  “If you love me, you’ll let me go.”

Then he hears a noise

Suddenly there is a bang which wakes him from his daydream, so he goes to investigate.

Cheryl is crawling along the hall

Cheryl is not dead, as he had feared, but has crawled out of the cupboard under the stairs, where he had hidden her ‘body’.   She is trying her best to get to the front door to escape.

"Cheryl – you're OK!"

Tom is overjoyed that she is all right and assures her that it is OK,

"No – don't!"

but she tries to fight him off;  “No – don’t!” she shouts, as he assures her that she just hit her head.

Is he actually finishing her off here?

She screams with all her remaining strength, “Help me!”

"There's plenty of food"

As they sit around the table in the Deri, Hywel tells them all too help themselves as there is plenty of food.

"I don't like parsnips"

Anita says that she does not like parsnips, but Ieuan insists that she does;

"You don't have to have parsnips"

she is told by Kelly, “You don’t have to have parsnips if you don’t want parsnips.”

"Have you talked to that guy in Cwrtmynach?"

Hywel asks if his brother talked to that guy in Cwrtmynach who bought a laptop for his son.   Ieuan realises that he has forgotten about it, but is not going to phone now,

"Not with a turkey crown on my plate!"

“Not with a paper crown on my head and a turkey crown on my plate!” he moans.

"Esther wants to be a vegetarian today"

Hywel reports that Esther has decided that she wants to be a vegetarian today and does not want to be anywhere near turkey;  she is upstairs with her tablet.

Kelly wonders if Cassie should join her, as she appears to be more interested in her phone than the people around her.

"I'm worried about a friend"

Cassie explains that she is worried about a friend.

"A lot of people are lonely at Christmas"

Anita comments that a lot of people are lonely on a day like today

"Lucky them!"

and Cassie mutters, “Lucky them!”   Ieuan reminds her that she does not have to be there, but his brother takes issue with this, arguing that if it were not for Cassie, they would not be eating Christmas dinner around the same table.

"I'll be checking the stock in the morning"

“You’re right, Ieuan, I don’t have to be here,” Cassie agrees, “You, Hywel, will be in charge from now on, and I’ll be checking the stock in the morning, so don’t get any silly ideas.   I’m going to bed with a box of Quality Street – Merry Christmas!”

"Look what you've done now!"

“Look what you’ve done now!” growls Hywel at Ieuan.

Tom is shocked

It appears that this time Cheryl is really lifeless

"Cher, Cher – no!"

as Tom sobs over her, “Cher, Cher – no!”   He appears horrified at what he has done.

Lleucu has beaten Cai at Scrabble

At Y Felin, Lleucu has beaten her father at Scrabble;  he accuses her of having been keeping that letter the whole time.

Iolo finds his book absorbing

Iolo is studying the ‘Plumbing Made Easy’ book.

"The Wi-Fi is better upstairs"

Lleucu receives a phone call from her brother, Twm, and will go upstairs as the Wi-Fi is better up there.

"I'm actually learning something from this"

“Is it strange that I’m actually learning something from this book?” Iolo remarks

"It's never too late to learn, Iol"

and Cai tells him that it is never too late to learn.   Siôn comes back downstairs, still in a furious mood and Iolo enquires if he is all right.

Siôn is not happy

“No, Iolo, I’m not,” is the reply.   Cai will go up to talk to his son, while Iolo advises his father that he has to let this go, as it always feels as if it is the Whites against the Monks.

"You'll only make things worse"

If he responds to that video, he will only make things worse.

"They're dragging Eileen into it!"

“Have you seen this properly?” Siôn demands, and is told that this sort of thing will be old news in a few weeks.   “Have you read what it says at the bottom?” Siôn goes on, “Trouble at Tamed – they’re not just making a fool out of me, they’re dragging Eileen into it!”

"Why are you so worried about Eileen?"

Iolo cannot understand why he is so worried about Eileen

"I thought it was quite clever, like"

In the Deri, Kelly is still harping on about her joke with Ieuan being ‘flush’;  “I thought it was quite clever myself, like.”

"So you're moving back to your mother's house, then"

Hywel assumes that moving back to his Mami’s house is Ieuan’s intention.   He agrees that this is the case, with Hywel commenting that Anita will be glad to have more rooms to hide from him.

"I want to go home!"

Auntie Neet pipes up to say that she wants to go home;  “I don’t want pudding and I don’t want to move back to Mami’s house!”   She flounces out, with Kelly following her

"What a successful Christmas dinner!"

and Hywel comes to the sarcastic conclusion that it was a successful Christmas dinner, telling Ieuan not to stay to keep him company, but rather to go after them;  he will only be clearing up after all.

"Merry Christmas, brother!"

Ieuan wishes him, “Merry Christmas, brother!”   Hywel instructs him to sort those laptops out.

Mark looks at photos on his phone

Mark is looking at photos of himself and Cheryl on his phone as he sits disconsolately on the bench by the alley;

"Merry Christmas, Cher"

he sadly sighs, “Merry Christmas, Cher.”

"I like being here with Kelly – she's fun"

Back home at number 7, Anita stresses to Ieuan, “I like being here with Kelly – she’s fun – she makes me feel positive.”

"I'm hilarious, to be fair"

Kelly stresses that she is hilarious, to be fair.

"We'll have a lot of fun in Mami's old place"

Ieuan promises that they will have a lot of fun in Mami’s old place – there is more room there and fewer other people to interfere.

"I need to have people around"

“That’s exactly what I need now – having people around,” she complains,

"It will do you good to have some peace"

but he insists that it will do her good to have some peace.

"Stop telling me what I need!"

“Stop telling me what I need!” she snaps, “I didn’t want to go to Hywel’s today – and I didn’t want parsnips!   I don’t want to move into Mami’s old house!”

Kelly brings in some tea

Kelly brings in two cups of tea and informs them that she is going to have a shower in order to let them sort it out.

"I'm just trying to make you happy"

Ieuan stresses that he is just trying to make Anita happy, something of which she is well aware;  “But you’re treating me like a patient already –

"I'm your wife!"

“until I get the results – and even afterwards, I’m your wife!”   He is apologetic, but she would like him to consider staying where they are for now.   That would be the perfect Christmas present.

"And the cheapest!"

“And the cheapest!” he adds, “I don’t have to waste money on a new bathroom.”

He picks up some mistletoe

He picks up a sprig of mistletoe, which happens to be lying around,

"You don't need that to give your wife a Christmas kiss!"

but Anita protests, “You don’t need that to give your wife a Christmas kiss!”

Tom tries to pull himself together

Now Tom is looking at his phone, at a loss to know what his next move is;

He locates Cheryl's phone . . .

he looks anxiously at the ‘Find my Device’ app in order to find where Cheryl’s phone is hidden

. . . and takes it from its hiding place . . .

and retrieves it from down the side of the sofa.

. . . and deletes the message she was about to send to Mark

He discovers the message which she was unable to send to Mark;  ‘I want to come.   Will you wait?”   He looks at it with horror but then there is a knock at the door, so he deletes her message as quickly as possible.

Then Gaynor arrives

He hears Gaynor’s voice and goes to let her in;  she is carrying some flowers.   “I heard that Cheryl has left – is that true?”

"I have no idea where she's gone"

Tom confirms that she has gone and he has no idea where.

He repeats the same story that he was upstairs packing and found that she had disappeared, with no message, no note – nothing.

"She can't have gone far"

“She can’t have gone far, can she?” Gaynor insists.

"I can't let her break my heart again"

“I can’t let her break my heart again – what am I going to do?” he whines, as she explains that she was going to give Cheryl these flowers and recalls that she kept the vases under the stairs.   He immediately tries to stop her,

Well, she has not been stashed in there again

but she is insistent and while she is thus occupied,

Tom steals Gaynor's credit card

he sneaks the purse from out of her bag and removes a credit card.

"So she's deceived us all"

“So she’s deceived us all, hasn’t she?”   Tom replies that it looks like it.   “How could she do this?”

"You're such a special person"

“And doing it to you – because youre such a special person,” he adds, and urges her to leave the flowers for now.

"Merry Christmas, Tom"

She half heartedly wishes him a Merry Christmas and leaves the house – minus her credit card.
