Britt makes a cup of tea |
Next morning, Britt is making a cup of tea which she takes to Colin;
![]() |
Colin is looking stunned |
he is sitting at the table, looking stunned. “I don’t believe it – Yvonne – your sister?
![]() |
"Her body there all this time?" |
“Her body there all this time? How did she . . . how do they know it’s Yvonne?”
![]() |
"They don't know anything definite yet" |
He replies that they do not know anything definite yet,
![]() |
"Why did you have to go to the police station?' |
so Britt wonders why he had to the police station. “They wanted me to look at a couple of things – clothes – well, pieces of clothing – which meant nothing to me.
![]() |
"But I recognised the necklace" |
“But I recognised the necklace – as soon as I saw it. It was Mam’s, a little heart with a stone right in the middle.
![]() |
"I used to stare at it for hours" |
“I used to stare at it for hours when I was a boy and then, after Mam . . .
![]() |
"Dad gave the necklace to Yvonne" |
“Dad gave the necklace to Yvonne. She wore it out and about – you might remember.
![]() |
"So there's little doubt, then?" |
Britt realises that there is little doubt,
![]() |
"Things are not looking good" |
and Colin groans that things do not look good.
![]() |
"Good morning, Jason" |
In Bryntirion, Kelly comes downstairs and wishes Jason, “Good morning.” He was not sure that she would get up at all, but she says that she has been awake for ages.
![]() |
"I want you to know how grateful I am" |
“Jase, I just want you to know how grateful I am that you’re giving us one last chance.”
He stresses that he is just seeing how things go at the moment and that is all.
![]() |
"We could go for lunch somewhere nice" |
“I was wondering – I don’t know what you think – I thought we could go for lunch somewhere nice today – a walk. You’ve got a couple of days off – I just thought . . .” He replies that he has things to do,
![]() |
"Can you take Ifan to school?" |
and enquires whether she can take Ifan to school for him; he only needs his school shoes which are under the stairs.
![]() |
"Of course I can" |
Kelly readily agrees.
![]() |
Breakfast in the deli |
Anita and Griffiths are having breakfast in the deli; Anita knows that Colin is back from the police station, as she saw him putting the bins out earlier and he did not look good at all.
![]() |
"It's that Louise again!" |
Then a message arrives on her phone and she is not pleased to see that it is from Louise; “I’ve told her I don’t want to do it any more!” Griffiths offers to show her how to block someone,
![]() |
"I'm not completely stupid!" |
and she angrily responds, “I know how to do that – I’m not completely stupid!”
![]() |
"A long weekend in London" |
As Anita reads through the text, she goes on, “She’s offering me a long weekend in a hotel in London – if I buy more stock. It says a suite here – in the Royal Tower Hotel.”
![]() |
This attracts Ieuan's attention |
Now Ieuan begins to take more of an interest; “The Royal Tower – that’s where Jeremy Cwrt Mynach and his wife stay.”
![]() |
"That councillor with the big car?" |
She recognises that name as the councillor with the big car, and he continues that it must be a nice place. Now he seems to have changed his tune;
![]() |
"Are you sure you want to finish with 'Meddal'? |
“Are you sure you want to finish with ‘Meddal’ now?”
Anita reminds him that is what they had decided and maintains that she is in a hurry to leave;
![]() |
"You haven't eaten it" |
he points out that she has not eaten her croissant, and is very pleased when she tells him to eat it.
![]() |
"I'm late for work!" |
“I’m late for work, what with you and Louise!” she complains.
![]() |
Now he has more breakfast |
He is not going to pass up an opportunity like that.
![]() |
"I just want to check a few things" |
Sgt Fielding pays another visit to number 21; “I’m just calling to see how he is and to check a few things,” she says. Britt protests that now is not the time, especially after that scene she made yesterday, treating him like a suspect.
![]() |
"I know Mr Evans is in shock" |
“I know Mr Evans is in shock,” Delyth replies.
“Of course he is – he’s just found out that his sister is buried in a garden around the corner!” Britt exclaims. The sergeant reminds her that they do not yet know for certain that it is Yvonne Evans;
![]() |
"Well, find out first and then come back!" |
“Well, find out first and then come back with your questions,” she is told.
![]() |
"What do you want to know?" |
Colin comes downstairs; “What do you want to know?” he demands and is determined to assist the police.
![]() |
"When did you last speak to your sister?" |
He is asked if he remembers when he last spoke to his sister. “I haven’t thought about anything else since we spoke last night –
![]() |
"I should remember, but I can't" |
“I should remember, but I can’t. Years have passed – one minute she was here in the village with us –
![]() |
"The next minute, she was gone" |
“and the next, she was just . . . I always thought it was something to do with her job – and I tried to contact her loads of times. I should have done a lot more to try and find out what happened!”
![]() |
"Calm down, Col" |
Britt tries to calm him down,
![]() |
"I'm sure you think we're a terrible family" |
but he continues, “I’m sure you think we’re a terrible family. When will you know for certain that it’s Yvonne?”
![]() |
"We're waiting for the forensic report . . ." |
He is told that they are still waiting for the forensic report, but, as he has identified the necklace,
![]() |
". . . but a step closer to finding out" |
they are a step closer to finding out.
![]() |
Jason his going to do some work at Dai's and Diane's bungalow" |
Rhys hands over the keys for the new bungalow to Jason, but warns, “If Dai and Diane complain about what you’ve done to the bungalow, don’t say I gave you the keys!”
![]() |
"They'll be delighted!" |
Jason promises him that they will be delighted.
![]() |
"Just you, Kelly and Ifan at Bryntirion?" |
Mathew realises that only he, Kelly and Ifan will be left at Bryntirion and Rhys is surprised that Jason and Kelly are back on. “Well it’s early days, but we have the space to sort things out now,” Jason answers.
![]() |
"I wouldn't forgive so easily" |
Rhys argues that he would not forgive so easily, and Mathew considers that may well be why he is still single.
![]() |
"Is that what people are saying about me?" |
“Is that what people are saying about me? That I give in too easily?” Jason wants to know.
Mathew tells him not to worry about what people say, but to do what is right for him; “And in any case, everyone is talking about Colin now.”
![]() |
"The body could have been there when you lived there" |
Rhys has heard that the body was Yvonne and points out that it may have been there when Jason lived there. “Who knows how many more Gwyneth buried there?”
![]() |
"Ifan used to play there" |
Jason is now becoming anxious, as he realises that Ifan used to play there;
![]() |
Now they have to get to work |
he and Mathew have work to do and will bring back the keys by five o’clock.
![]() |
"I'm blocking her number now" |
![]() |
"You don't need to do that quite yet" |
but he suggests that she does not need to do that quite yet.
![]() |
"A weekend there costs a fortune!" |
“I’ve been looking at the Royal Tower’s website – a weekend there costs a fortune – a lot more than a couple of boxes of ‘Meddal’ products.
![]() |
"If I gave you the money for one more order . . ." |
“I was thinking, perhaps I can give you the money to buy one more order – so that we can go to London. Well, you got rid of that last batch in the end – and I could help with the selling – do you want to?”
![]() |
Anita does not take much persuading |
Anita has been quite easily persuaded; she will phone Louise now to say that she is buying one more order –
![]() |
"This will be the last one" |
she stresses that this will be the last one.
![]() |
"I'm not hungry, Britt" |
Colin, still in a very troubled state, is sitting on the sofa in his dressing gown; he refuses any lunch
![]() |
"I don't want to discuss it" |
and Britt tells him that it is not his fault for not trying to find Yvonne, especially with her job. “I don’t want to discuss it,” he answers and Britt will go to see if Kylie wants any lunch.
![]() |
"I forgot about Kylie" |
He had temporarily forgotten about Kylie, who was worried last night, but Britt reports that she is OK today. “Well, that’s not right, after everything she’s been through,” he says,
![]() |
"I'll contact the fostering service" |
as he picks up his phone to contact the fostering service.
![]() |
"She can't stay now" |
“She can’t stay – not now – I can’t look after her, not with everything that’s going on – she deserves better!” Colin insists,
![]() |
"Have you got the number?" |
“Have you got the number?”
![]() |
Britt tries to calm him down |
“Calm down, Colin – don’t do anything rash. You’re grieving – you’re not thinking straight.” Colin regards that as exactly the point –
![]() |
"Kylie needs to looked after properly" |
“Kylie needs to be looked after properly, which is all that is important to him.
“She will be looked after properly – here, with us!” Britt assures him,
![]() |
"She'll be the last child we foster" |
but he is adamant that she will be the last child they will foster.
![]() |
"I don't want to let anyone else down ever again!" |
“Because I don’t want to let anyone else down ever again!” she shouts, throwing down the phone on the sofa.
![]() |
"Did you get hold of Louise?" |
Ieuan brings Anita a drink in the Deri, asking whether she got hold of Louise; “Yes, and we’re going to London!” she replies, which he greets with excitement. He considers that there is nothing better than a free weekend, but she reminds him that it is not quite free.
![]() |
Ieuan is becoming very excited |
“It’s a small price to pay to stay in the Royal Tower,” he comments, “Right, we’ll have some food and then go home to pack.”
![]() |
Mathew and Rhys order their drinks |
Mathew and Rhys have come in for a drink and Mathew asks what he is packing for;
![]() |
"Top-notch London hotel!" |
“Anita has been treated to a weekend in a top-notch London hotel – penthouse suite!”
Rhys says that Griffiths is getting generous in his old age,
![]() |
"No – 'Meddal' is paying" |
but is informed that he is not paying; “‘Meddal’ is.”
![]() |
"I thought you'd stopped that nonsense" |
Mathew was under the impression that Anita had stopped that nonsense
![]() |
"They persuaded me" |
and she advises that they persuaded her to buy a little more stock.
![]() |
"And a Michelin star dinner" |
Griffiths continues, “And not just the hotel, but a Michelin star dinner.”
![]() |
"We killed ourselves getting rid of that stock!" |
Rhys is angry; “I can’t believe this – we killed ourselves getting rid of all that stock that you couldn’t sell – and now you’re buying more?” Griffiths says he will buy them a drink, but his offer is refused.
![]() |
"Typical village folk!" |
As he returns to Anita, he haughtily remarks, “Typical village folk – jealousy eats them alive when someone else has bit of luck.”
![]() |
Now DI Lloyd has arrived |
Now DI Lloyd has visited Colin to thank him for coming to the station last night, although he had so little warning. “I’m sorry that we still can’t confirm the identity of the body.” Britt says that it must be pretty obvious,
![]() |
"We need to be thorough" |
and he explains that they need to be thorough.
“Can you tell what happened?
![]() |
"How was she killed?" |
“How she was killed?” Colin enquires and is told that they cannot reveal any details at the moment.
![]() |
"Gwyneth's house, Gwyneth's garden . . ." |
“Well, it doesn’t take a genius to work it out, does it?” Britt snarls, “Gwyneth’s house, Gwyneth’s garden, Gwyneth has killed before – including my brother, Brandon!”
![]() |
"This is not helping" |
The DI reminds her that this is not helping; “And you sitting there isn’t helping either!” she tells him. He appreciates that this is difficult for both of them, but assures them that the team is working hard to find answers.
The fact that Colin recognised the necklace is a big help, but there are some other things he would like to cheque.
![]() |
"Have you thought about when you last spoke to Yvonne?" |
“I know you couldn’t remember last night, but have you had a chance to think about when you last spoke to Yvonne?”
![]() |
"Fielding asked exactly the same thing!" |
“What – again?” rages Britt, “Fielding was here first thing this morning asking exactly the same thing!”
![]() |
He was not aware of that |
This seems to be news to the DI,
![]() |
"Have you ever considered talking to each other?" |
as Britt demands, “Have you ever considered talking to each other?” By this time DI Lloyd is feeling rather stupid.
![]() |
"We're worried, Anita" |
As Anita and Griffiths are leaving the Deri, Mathew apologises; he and Rhys are worried.
![]() |
"That we might get lost on the Underground?" |
“About what? That we might get lost on the Underground?” sneers Ieuan.
![]() |
"You were under so much strain" |
“You were under so much strain getting rid of that ‘Meddal’ stuff!” She promises to be more organised this time,
![]() |
"Ieuan will be helping me" |
adding that Ieuan will be helping her.
![]() |
"You know how dodgy the company is" |
“You’ve changed your tune – you know how dodgy this company is.”
![]() |
"If you haven't got anything worth saying . . ." |
“If you haven’t got anything worth saying, be quiet,” Griffiths instructs him, “Or better still, go home!”
![]() |
"Am I making a mistake here, Ieuan?" |
Now Anita is having second thoughts and imagines that perhaps she has made a mistake; “Don’t listen to those two clowns – think about the Jacuzzi in the suite –
![]() |
"There's enough room for two!" |
“there’s enough room for two!”
![]() |
"Is it OK if I have some crisps?" |
Colin is lying on the sofa when Kylie comes downstairs; “Is it OK if I have some crisps?”
![]() |
"Help yourself" |
He invites her to help herself
![]() |
"I lost Mam to Covid . . ." |
and she goes on, “Sorry about your sister – I lost Mam to Covid –
![]() |
". . . that's why I look after Mam-gu now" |
“that’s why I look after Mam-gu now.”
![]() |
"Were you close to your sister?" |
As she sits down next to him, she asks, “Were you close to your sister?” He admits that he had not seen her for years, but they were close as children
![]() |
"We grew apart without realising it" |
and then grew apart without even realising it.
![]() |
"If I'd just been able to help her a little bit" |
Kylie asks what happened, but he says that it is not important any more; “If I’d just been able to help her a little bit, perhaps.”
![]() |
"I'm sure you did your best" |
Kylie is sure that he did his best, but Colin doubts that.
![]() |
"You've helped me – loads!" |
“I don’t,” she stresses, “You’ve helped me – loads!”
![]() |
"Crisp?" |
and she offers him a crisp.
![]() |
"No, thanks" |
Delyth, now out of uniform, enters the Deri and sees her DI, who refuses the offer of a drink,
![]() |
"White wine, please" |
but comes across to the bar where she is standing, having asked Geraint for a white wine.
![]() |
"Fielding – a word!" |
“Fielding – a word!” DI Lloyd snaps at her, “You had no business talking to Colin Evans.”
![]() |
"I was trying to help" |
She maintains that she was trying to help, but he goes on, “You made my job difficult, upsetting the family. And bringing him to the station last night wasn’t your call either.”
![]() |
"You're not a detective any more" |
He will not listen to any explanations, reminding her that she is not a detective any more and it is time she remembered that.
![]() |
"It won't happen again" |
“It won’t happen again,” she replies.
![]() |
"No, it won't . . ." |
“No, it won’t!” he says,
![]() |
". . . I'll make sure of that!" |
“I’ll make sure of that!”
![]() |
Delyth is presented with her wine |
Geraint brings Delyth her glass of wine.
