![]() |
"It will come when it comes, Iolo" |
Siôn replies that it will come when it comes; “But I need the tablets now, Dad!”
Siôn warns him that the police will be there any minute
![]() |
"Are you going to bribe them with Bourbons?" |
and Iolo wants to know what the biscuits are for; “Are you going to bribe them with Bourbons, so they won’t throw me in jail?
![]() |
"You're not facing a manslaughter charge!" |
“You’re not facing a manslaughter charge!”
![]() |
"Remember what we said" |
His father reiterates that neither is Iolo; “Remember what we said – we haven’t seen Cai since before Christmas – there’s no need for you to say that you beat him!”
![]() |
"If they find out later . . ." |
Iolo fears that they will find out later and that will look more suspicious.
![]() |
There is a knock at the door |
“It will look even worse if you say he asked you to do it!” snarls Siôn, then they hear a knock at the door. Before he goes to answer it,
![]() |
"Stick to the story!" |
Siôn instructs his son, “Stay there and stick to the story!”
![]() |
That appears to be a vain hope |
Iolo’s state casts doubt on whether he can do that.
![]() |
"That's the tenth time you've done that!" |
Colin groans, “That’s the tenth time you’ve done that!” as Britt rearranges the cushions on the sofa, “She’s 14 – she won’t care!”
![]() |
"I just want the place to be perfect" |
Britt protests that she just wants the place to be perfect.
![]() |
"It couldn't look better if the Pope came over" |
“It couldn’t look better if the Pope himself came over for a cup of tea,” is his verdict,
![]() |
"It was ten, wasn't it?" |
as she checks that it was ten o’clock, not half past.
“Well, where are they, then?”
![]() |
"Perhaps there's been a change of plan" |
Colin suggests that perhaps there has been a change of plan.
![]() |
"The op might have been cancelled" |
“Her grandmother’s op might have been cancelled,” says Britt, but then there is the anticipated knock at the door.
![]() |
Then Kylie arrives |
Kylie arrives with her social worker; she looks very shy. Britt and Colin introduce themselves and their home.
![]() |
"We hope you'll have a good time here" |
“We hope you’ll have a good time here.”
![]() |
"We've got a homely and cosy place here" |
“We’ve got a homely and cosy place here,” Colin continues,
![]() |
Kylie does not speak |
but there is no response from Kylie. Then Britt suggests some food,
![]() |
"She has already had breakfast" |
but they are told Kylie has already had breakfast. They invite her to see her room upstairs
![]() |
"You should leave her alone for a while" |
and the social worker advises that they should leave her alone for a while, so she can get used to her surroundings.
![]() |
"What's wrong?" |
In the pharmacy flat, Maya senses that something is wrong as she brings Delyth a cup of tea.
![]() |
"They're still waiting for a briefing" |
“I asked the DI to keep me informed about what the pathologist says about the body at Jinx’s house, but they’re still waiting for a briefing,” she says.
![]() |
"Some think it could be Yvonne, Colin's sister" |
Maya asks whose she thinks the body is, but Delyth has no idea. Maya has heard people talking; “Some think it could be someone called Yvonne, Colin’s sister – do you think it could be her?”
![]() |
"Do you fancy a cake from the deli?" |
Delyth rather suspiciously changes the subject; “Do you fancy a cake from the deli?”
![]() |
"Yeah, OK – I'll go" |
and Maya volunteers to go, as she has five minutes.
![]() |
"No, I'll do it" |
Delyth, however, is adamant that she will do it, and when Maya is even more insistent,
![]() |
"There's a lot of what you fancy at 'Tamed'" |
she says, “Ah, I see – there’s a lot of what you fancy in ‘Tamed’, isn’t there?”
![]() |
This is not appreciated by Maya |
Now neither of them are really bothered about any cake; “I’ve gone off cake now!” comments Delyth, rather pointedly.
![]() |
The DI begins his questioning |
DI Lloyd is accompanied by a young female officer and asks some questions; “You say you last saw Cai on the 21st December – are you sure about that?”
![]() |
"We haven't seen him since the gym" |
Iolo mutters that they went to the gym together and they have not seen him since.
![]() |
"Just confirming the facts" |
The DI informs Siôn that he is just trying to make sure that Iolo’s recollections are the same as his; “Just confirming the facts.”
![]() |
"Would you like a biscuit?" |
At this point Siôn offers him a biscuit, which he declines.
![]() |
"How did he seem to you?" |
“How did he seem to you?” he asks Iolo,
![]() |
"He was fine" |
who simply replies that he was fine. “And he left with no explanation?” adds the DI, “Has he done that before – leaving without saying anything?”
![]() |
"He did threaten to take his own life" |
By this time, Iolo is becoming rather rattled, so Siôn intervenes to point out that Cai has not been well recently – with the self-harming; “And the time when he threatened to take his own life.”
![]() |
"Any sign that he'd consider doing that again?" |
“Did he give any sign that he’s considering doing that again?” the DI asks,
![]() |
"He might be injured" |
and Iolo, whose resolve is crumbling, suggests that he might be injured. Siôn is quick to add, “Because of the self-harming,” and apologises that they are terribly worried.
![]() |
"We'll leave it for now" |
The DI can understand that this is a worrying time for them and will leave the interview there for now. He will be in touch with them.
![]() |
Iolo is glad that is over |
Iolo is extremely glad that ordeal is over, but when his father comes back in after closing the door,
![]() |
"What on earth was that?" |
“What on earth was that?” he shouts. Iolo insists that they have to tell the truth –
![]() |
"We can't carry on like this, Dad!" |
they cannot carry on like this.
![]() |
"Everything will be fine!" |
His father angrily snarls, “Everything will be fine!”
![]() |
"It might not go like clockwork" |

![]() |
"What are we supposed to do now?" |
They look at each other and Britt demands, “What are we supposed to do now?”
![]() |
"I have to go to the shop . . ." |
Colin replies that he has to go to the shop, as she knows very well.
![]() |
". . . I'll be back at lunchtime" |
“I’ll only be round the corner and I shall be back at lunchtime,” he assures her,
![]() |
Britt doubts that she will be fine |
“You heard what she said – Kylie will be fine – you’ll both be fine.”
![]() |
"We told the police everything" |
Ffion is at Y Felin again and Siôn informs her that the police have just left, confirming, “Yes, we told them everything.”
![]() |
Iolo's illicit order arrives |
Iolo’s long-awaited box has arrived and his father dispenses one tablet to him,
![]() |
"Just one, right?" |
stressing, “Just one, right?”
![]() |
Iolo hurriedly swallows it . . . |
As soon as Iolo has swallowed it,
![]() |
. . . and goes for a walk |
he grabs his coat and says he is going out for a walk.
![]() |
"Are they the tablets he took last week?" |
“Are they the tablets he took last week?” Ffion demands,
![]() |
"I know what I'm doing, Ffion" |
and Siôn once again maintains that he knows what he is doing.
“You insisted we go to the police – is there anything else?”
![]() |
"I thought they would take him in for questioning" |
Ffion wants to know if they said what will happen next, assuming that Iolo would have been taken in for questioning.
![]() |
"We told them everything that needed to be said" |
“We told them everything that needed to be said,” he replies.
Ffion realises that this does not include admitting what actually happened;
![]() |
"They've only had half the story!" |
“You said nothing about the beating – they’ve only had half the story!” Siôn points out that the police were not likely to have believed that story, and she exclaims, “How do you expect them to find Cai without all the facts?”
“What happened in the gym made no difference,” Siôn alleges,
![]() |
"Just keep your nose out of it!" |
“Just keep your nose out of it!” Ffion immediately leaves the house.
![]() |
Kylie is eating cake . . . |
When Colin returns home, he finds Britt and Kylie eating lunch,
![]() |
. . . which Colin is pleased to see |
which encourages him;
![]() |
"I was like that on my first day at primary school" |
Britt takes him into the kitchen, where she reveals that Kylie has not said a word, and he appreciates that she is shy. “I was like that on my first day at primary school in Lampeter. At least she came downstairs.”
Britt is concerned that she did not eat her pizza, “But she is eating cakes,” he points out,
![]() |
"Are you looking forward to school tomorrow?" |
then goes to ask, “Are you looking forward to school tomorrow, Kylie?”
![]() |
"You should ask her something else, Col" |
Britt admonishes him that reminding her about her first day at school is not the best thing to do. He should ask her something else; “I’ve already asked her if she liked her room – and she just shook her head. I want to know she’s got a tongue.”
![]() |
"How does your room make you feel?" |
Colin tries again, “Kylie, how does your room make you feel?”
![]() |
She goes straight back upstairs |
She makes no reply but immediately goes back upstairs.
![]() |
"Fostering isn't for us, Britt!" |
“We shall have to ring the social worker, to say that fostering isn’t for us!” he tells Britt.
![]() |
"We're not giving up that easily!" |
She is absolutely opposed to this; “You’re joking? No way! We’re not giving up that easily!”
![]() |
"I want to get off these pills" |
Iolo breathlessly comes into the pharmacy and whimpers to Maya, “I want to get off these pills,”
![]() |
"That's a good move" |
which she regards as a good move. “I want to do it safely – my Dad managed to get me some.”
![]() |
"Where did they come from?" |
Maya immediately demands where they came from
![]() |
"The internet" |
and is told that it was the Internet. “That’s really dangerous – you don’t know what could be in them. Iolo demands what he should do in that case; “Will the doctor give me some?” This is problematical;
Maya points out that he has never had a prescription, so doctors will ask questions.
![]() |
"I could lose my job!" |
“They’ll ask you what you got them from in the first place – I could lose my job – you could get done for burglary!” she explains
![]() |
"Can't you give me some 'off the books'?" |
and he pleads for her to give him some more, ‘off the books’.
She points out that it will look suspicious if more of them go missing,
![]() |
"I can't just stop!" |
but he whines that he cannot just stop. “OK, I will contact my friend – the one that deals with prescribed drug addiction –
![]() |
"I'll see what she says" |
“and I’ll see what she says,” Maya tells him, but he wants to know what to do until then.
“Don’t take any more until I tell you otherwise,” she advises and he reluctantly agrees,
![]() |
Delyth has been to get the cake . . . |
just as Delyth comes into the shop, carrying a cake from the deli.
![]() |
. . . and Iolo makes a hasty exit |
Iolo finds the presence of a police officer very disturbing. Delyth has brought a carrot cake.
![]() |
"It's not working, Col" |
Britt and Colin are sitting on the sofa while loud music is playing; “It’s not working, Col,” she moans, but he assures her that youngsters love that band.
![]() |
"Do you think blaring music will attract her?" |
“Do you really think that blaring music will attract her downstairs?” Britt demands.
![]() |
"It will make her think we're cool dudes!" |
“Perhaps playing hip music like this will help her to think that we’re cool dudes,” he suggests, “She’ll want to spend time with us, then.
![]() |
"I'm getting a headache" |
Britt is unconvinced and tells Colin to turn it off, as she is starting to get a headache.
He does so, and grumpily enquires if she has a better idea. “I tempted her downstairs with cake, so perhaps we can tempt her with something else.
![]() |
"I make a lovely pasta bake" |
“I make a lovely pasta bake, don’t I?” He is very doubtful that a pasta bake will make the girl find her tongue, but neither of them know what else they could do.
![]() |
"What did Iolo want?" |
Delyth gives Maya a slice of carrot cake and asks what Iolo wanted;
![]() |
"I can't tell you – unprofessional" |
“Nothing – well, obviously not nothing, but you know I can’t tell you – patient confidentiality – unprofessional.”
![]() |
"We've had more evidence about the body . . ." |
Delyth continues that they have had more evidence about the body which could hold the key to help them to identify the body,
![]() |
"I couldn't possibly tell you – unprofessional" |
“But I couldn’t possibly tell you – unprofessional.”
![]() |
"All right, Iolo?" |
Ffion comes out of her front door to see Iolo nearby; she asks if he is all right.
![]() |
"I'm just out for a walk" |
He replies that he is just out for a walk,
![]() |
"You shouldn't let him control you" |
and she appreciates, “I’m sure it can be oppressive in Y Felin. You shouldn’t let him control you.”
![]() |
"What do you mean?" |
He wonders what she means, so she spells it out,
![]() |
"You know the right thing to do" |
“You know what the right thing to do is – by not telling the police the whole truth, you’re endangering Cai’s life.”
![]() |
"But Dad said . . ." |
He begins, “Dad said . . .” Ffion remind him that they do not know what could happen – unless it has already happened. She demands whether he wants that on his conscience
![]() |
Iolo walks away |
and he walks sadly away,
![]() |
Ffion is worried about him |
while she is even more concerned.
![]() |
Maya is studying her phone |
Maya is dialling a number on her phone as Delyth remarks that she is quiet, asking whether something is wrong; she gives the excuse that she is tired.
![]() |
"Tell me what's going on" |
“Talk to me – tell me what’s going on,” Delyth continues and when told that Maya has things going on, demands what things they are.
![]() |
"Work things!" |
“Work things!” she irritably replies, and it is assumed that it is something related to Iolo. “You know I can’t tell you that,” Maya snaps, and is then asked who she is texting. “Work, like I said – I need to sort out stock!”
![]() |
Dinner is ready |
The pasta bake has been made and is on the table in number 21. Britt instructs Colin to go and fetch Kylie; “Knock on her door.”
![]() |
"What of she doesn't answer?" |
Colin wonders what will happen if she does not answer, and is told that they will put a plate of food outside her door.
“What – like a prison?” he gasps,
![]() |
"We don't want her to starve on her first day" |
and Britt does not want her to starve on her first day.
![]() |
Then Kylie appears |
However, all this is unnecessary, as she comes downstairs of her own accord.
![]() |
"It's pasta bake – I hope you like it" |
“Kylie, love – dinner’s ready, come and sit down, make yourself comfortable. It’s pasta bake – I hope you like it,” says Britt.
![]() |
"As Mam-gu Mwnt would say" |
Colin adds, “Yeah, fill your belly, as Mam-gu Mwnt would say – and if you don’t like it, I’ll get us a takeaway.”
![]() |
"Pasta bake is my favourite" |
At long last, Kylie speaks, “Well, pasta bake is my favourite,”
![]() |
Britt has a very high opinion of her cooking |
which Britt welcomes and she adds that her pasta bake is better than a Michelin restaurant.
![]() |
"Kylie hasn't tasted it yet" |
Colin warns her not to speak to soon, as Kylie has not tasted it yet.
![]() |
"Wow – that's great news!" |
Delyth receives some news on the phone; “Wow – that’s great news! Thank you,” she says,
![]() |
"I mentioned Yvonne to them" |
then informs Maya, “They found a necklace near the body – perhaps it will help them identify the body. I mentioned Yvonne to them and they will look into it.”
![]() |
"I might have solved the mystery for you" |
Maya predicts that she might have solved the mystery for them.
![]() |
"I'm watching television" |
When Delyth proposes that they should go to bed, Maya maintains that she is watching television.
![]() |
"You've been one your phone all night" |
“No, you’ve been on your phone all night,” says Delyth.
![]() |
"I'll be there in a minute" |
Maya says that she will be there in a minute, after she has dealt with this boring work, something which does not convince Delyth. Then, when alone, she calls Iolo;
![]() |
"She can't see you until the end of next week" |
“She can’t see you until the end of next week – I’m sorry, it’s the best I can do. She’s doing me a massive favour here – I’m sorry.
![]() |
"No, I can't get you any more tablets" |
“No, I can’t get you any more tablets without risking my business.”
![]() |
Delyth is doing a spot of snooping |
What she has not noticed is that Delyth has silently come back into the room and asks if she is all right.
![]() |
"I'm just coming now" |
Now Maya is quite willing to go to bed.
![]() |
"I can't do this any more, Dad!" |
At Y Felin, Iolo is pacing up and down, protesting that he cannot do this any more, although his father insists it is simply a matter of holding their ground.
![]() |
"I'm going to tell the truth" |
“No, I’m going to tell the truth, like I should have done,” Iolo declares and Siôn cannot understand why he has changed his mind.
![]() |
"Lying was a mistake!" |
“Lying was a mistake!”
Siôn snarls that he was doing it for Iolo; “I know, but these last few weeks have been a nightmare – we’re both stuck with this secret!” His father insists that he could go to jail as his story is unbelievable.
Iolo maintains that he is willing to accept whatever happens; “Anything is better than this!”
![]() |
"Tell that to Greta!" |
“Tell that to Greta when she loses the only father she has!” Siôn shouts
![]() |
They hear the door open . . . |
and at that moment the door opens.
![]() |
. . . and Cai appears, relatively unscathed |
Cai walks in and looks at them.
