18 January 2024

Kelly walks along the street . . .

Kelly walks sadly along the street past the shop;

. . . noticing Jason . . .

she notices Jason across the road

. . . who is outside APD

and he looks at her, but at that moment,

"Are these the keys to the bungalow?"

Rhys calls to her, “Kelly, are these the keys to the bungalow?   There was a bunch on your desk but the labels were jumbled up.”

"I think it says 'bungalow' there"

She turns and remarks, “I don’t know about you, Rhys, I might be totally crazy, but I think it says ‘bungalow’ there,” as she points to a small label.

"If you want anything else . . ."

“If you want anything else – I don’t know – two plus two – who the Prime Minister is . . .”

"Did you get out of the wrong side of bed?"

He does not appreciate this and snarls, “All right – did you get up on the wrong side of the bed or what?”

"I've got a lot going on, Rhys"

Kelly apologises, explaining that she has a lot going on, but she is very clear that she does not want to talk about it.

“That’s Dai’s and Diane’s bungalow, is it?” she assumes,

"Yes, the day has arrived!"

and Rhys says that the day has arrived.

She cannot resist looking across the road again

Kelly glances again towards APD.

"Sorry, I've got fencing to repair"

At Penrhewl, Sioned informs DJ that he has to take the sandwiches to the rugby club, but he replies that he cannot do that as he has fencing to repair.

"You don't have to do that today, do you?"

Eileen demands, “You don’t have to do that today, do you?” and he says that they do not want the sheep to get into Deri Fawr’s fields again.

Eileen appears to be definitely worried about something, as he continues, “It’s a mess after the hunt yesterday.”

"OK, I'll take the sandwiches"

Sioned agrees that she will take the sandwiches

"There's Howard outside"

and then Eileen spies Howard outside, rushing out to see him.

"She's worried I'll find something!"

“She’s worried I’ll find something,” DJ tells Sioned;  “She’s been keeping me away from that field ever since the hunt – she’s been giving me jobs around the yard.

"There's something going on"

“There’s something going on, I’m telling you!”

"Where have you been?"

Meanwhile Eileen demands of Howard, “Where have you been?”   He is carrying a plastic bag

"Drinking cocktails with the sheep"

and replies sarcastically that he has been drinking cocktails with the sheep.

“Where do you think I’ve been?   I’ve got my own farm to run, too!”

"You've got tidying up to do"

Eileen instructs him that he has tidying up to do – and not much time to do it, as DJ wants to go fencing and she cannot stop him.

"Any idea where Sioni is, then?"

“Have you any idea where Sioni is, then?” he asks

"You have some searching to do!"

and she informs him that he has some searching to do.

Is this the successor to the lovely Gwen?

Business must be picking up in the deli, as they have employed a girl behind the counter there, who is presently handing a coffee to Kelly;

Kelly notices Maya . . .

as she is about to leave she notices Maya, looking rather worried.

. . . who is looking across to the pharmacy

She is peering anxiously out of the window towards the pharmacy, where Delyth is lurking outside;

"Things are never plain sailing"

“Things are never plain sailing,” she comments and Kelly, in her present position, can relate to that.

"Do you ever feel you don't know the person you live with?"

“Do you ever feel like you don’t know the person you live with?” Maya goes on,

"I could lock myself in a nunnery"

with Kelly replying that she sometimes feels like she could just lock herself in nunnery.   “Take me with you,” groans Maya.

Kelly repeats, “Never plain sailing,” and leaves the shop.

Delyth is approaching

Delyth looks across and notices Maya, so heads in that direction, much to Maya’s displeasure.

"You can't hide from me for ever!"

“You can’t hide from me for ever,” Delyth growls, “Sleeping on the sofa or not.”

"At least I can try!"

Maya says that at least she can try.   “I want answers!” is the next demand.

Jinx is buying paintbrushes

Jinx is at APD, buying some paintbrushes;  as he pays contactlessly,

"You've got no shame, have you?"

he remarks to Jason, “You’ve got no shame, have you?   If the police had found that Rohypnol, I could have gone down for years.”

"No less than you deserve!"

Jason’s response is, “No less than you deserve!”

"Isn't it time to put this behind us?"

Jinx maintains that it is time to put this behind them, but is told, “You started this, Jinx – and it’s easy for you to forget, isn’t it?

"It's not your marriage that's fallen apart!"

“It’s not your marriage that’s fallen apart!”

The fact that he and Kelly have separated comes as a shock to Jinx;

"That's the last thing I wanted"

“That’s the last thing I wanted.”   Jason points out that is what happens when you mess around with someone else’s wife.

Kelly comes in through the door . . .

At that the door opens and Kelly comes in;  they both look at her

. . . and Jinx makes himself scarce

and Jinx leaves the shop without a word.

"How long have you been giving drugs away?"

Sitting in the window of ‘Tamed’, Delyth continues her questioning;  “How long have you been giving drugs away without a prescription?”

"You've always done everything by the book, haven't you?"

“And you’ve always done everything by the book, haven’t you?” says Maya.   When Delyth demands why she was not told, Maya replies, “I knew you’d react like this – give me a telling off – be all ‘policey’ about it!”

"This is sackable!"

“What do you expect?   I couldn’t arrest him last night and I’ve got to hide it – that makes me an accessory.   This is sackable – you’ve put both our careers in danger!”

"And hiding a 14-year-old's gun isn't?"

“And hiding a 14-year-old’s gun isn’t?” Maya demands,

"He's a child"

but Delyth insists that it is different as Gwern is a child.

"And Iolo's vulnerable"

“Yes, and Iolo’s vulnerable – I was trying to help him!” is the angry response.

"You let people walk all over you!"

Delyth shakes her head;  “It’s always the same with you, isn’t it?   You want people to like you – you’ll do anything to please other people – no matter what impact it has on you or the people who love you.   I sometimes feel like you put everybody else before me.   You let people walk all over you!”

"You can be so cruel sometimes"

“You can be so cruel sometimes – do you know that?” wonders Maya

Maya marches out

as she picks up her keys and returns to the pharmacy.

Jason is tidying the place up

Jason continues tidying up at APD

"I'm trying to have a serious conversation"

while Kelly pleads, “Can you stop doing that, please?   I’m trying to have a serious conversation.”

"I've got nothing to say"

He replies that he has nothing to say.

“There’s something I need to say,” she continues and he tells her to fire away.

"Dai and Diane are exchanging on a bungalow"

“Dai and Diane are exchanging on a bungalow today – I found them the perfect bungalow, exactly what they need and we’ve pushed the sale through quickly.   I wanted to surprise you.   You know what this means, don’t you?”

"We're inheriting Bryntirion"

He does indeed know that they are going to inherit Bryntirion;  “A home for you, Ifan – and me –

"Well, that was the intention, anyway"

“well, that was the intention anyway.   It wasn’t guaranteed – so many properties fall through at the last minute – so I didn’t want to get your hopes up.   But it has gone through, so I guess they’re moving out.”

"Great – I'm very happy for them"

Jason’s reaction is, “Great – I’m very happy for them.”

"I do think of you, Jason"

She goes on, “I know you’re under the impression I never think about you, but – Jason – I do.”

There is silence for a moment

They both look at each other for a moment,

"You can get the rest of your stuff today"

then he suggests that she can get the rest of her stuff from the house today, as there will be no-one there all afternoon.

What Kelly did not want to hear

Kelly realises that is his final decision, and accepts that it is all over.

Diane is heading for Tomos ac Ellis

Diane is approaching Tomos ac Ellis when Kelly calls to her

"I hope you'll be very happy in your new home"

and says, “Big day today – I hope you’ll be very happy in your new home.”

"How are you settling with Anita?"

Diane asks how she is settling with Anita and is told,

"Griffiths hogs the bathroom"

“All right, yeah – Griffiths hogs the bathroom all morning.   How’s Jason?”

"He hasn't said much"

Diane says that he is keeping busy but has not said much;  “Only that the marriage is over.”

“I know the grand plan went to pot, right,

"I'm happy for you, Diane"

“but I just want to say that I’m happy for you and I want you to have an amazing time in your new home,” says Kelly,

She tries to hold back the tears

with tears in her eyes as she turns away.

Howard is in a ditch . .

Howard is down in a ditch, looking at something, when he is surprised by DJ’s voice;

. . . when he hears DJ's voice

“Looking for something, Howard?”

"Eileen asked me to tidy up after the hunt"

He explains that Eileen asked him to tidy up after the hunt.

“It’s a lot of fun, but they’re an untidy bunch,” he says,

"That's why I'm repairing fences"

and DJ confirms that is why he is out, repairing fences.   When Howard offers to do that for him, DJ is sure that he has enough on his plate already;

"You'll be able to help Eileen in the yard"

“You’ll be able to help Eileen in the yard,” says Howard, “She’s looked after me recently and favours work both ways.”

DJ thanks him;  “You won’t be thanking me when you’re cleaning out those sheds,” he replies, then returns to his task.

"So that's where you've been hiding, Sioni!"

“So that’s where you’ve been hiding, Sioni!” he says

"Fancy seeing you here"

Maya is having a drink in another pub somewhere and Sioned just happens to be delivering Cae Glas vegetables there;

"I'm escaping the crowds"

“What are you doing here?” she asks and is told that Maya is escaping the crowds.

Sioned knows that means she is hiding from Delyth and is anxious;

"No, not about that"

“No, not about that,” Maya assures her.

"Lucky for you, this is my last delivery"

“Well, lucky for you, this is my last delivery,” Sioned says.

"You really don't want my company today"

Maya maintains, “You really don’t want to be in my company today,” but Sioned can see that she needs a friend to take her mind off things.   “I’ll tell you what would help get my mind off things – Tequila!” Maya suggests,

"I'm not sure that I ought to"

and Sioned is not sure that she ought to.

"All the more for me, then!"

“All the more for me, then!” says Maya.

The transaction is complete

Dai and Diane come out of Tomos ac Ellis after completing the transaction and are presented with a bottle of champagne by Rhys.

"Grovelling, to make up for what you said?"

“Ah, grovelling now, make up for what you said yesterday!” laughs Dai,

"No, Dai, to celebrate exchanging contracts"

but Rhys stresses that it is to celebrate exchanging contracts.

"It will be a nice little bonus"

“What am I supposed to do?   Shake it and spray it around, like at the Grand Prix?” asks Dai, “A new chapter – moving on.”   Rhys cannot deny that the bonus will be a nice extra, commenting that everyone is happy.

"It doesn't feel right"

“Everyone’s happy,” groans Diane, obviously not at all happy, “It doesn’t feel right – celebrating while Jason’s marriage is falling apart.”

"There's nothing we can do about that now"

Dai explains that there is nothing that they can do about that, but Diane considers that perhaps they should not move;  “We can’t leave Jason and Ifan.”

"No way, José"

Dai thinks otherwise;  “Change our plans – no way, José!   We’re moving, Diane!   You can’t put your life on hold every time Jason has a tiff!”

"I suppose you're right"

She supposes that he is right and he emphasises that of course he is.

"I thought we decided not to interfere"

“And I thought we’d decided not to interfere in their personal lives – right, we’ll keep that bottle to christen the new house.

"Come on – a couple of shorts!"

“The Deri is calling – come on – a couple of shorts to celebrate!”

"I feel like an outsider all the time"

Maya continues explaining to Sioned, “It’s difficult – I feel like an outsider all the time – like I have to make an extra effort just to be accepted, do you know what I mean?”

"You shouldn't have to feel like that"

Sioned protests that she should not have to feel like that.

"Do you think I let people walk all over me?"

“And when I do make friends, Dee gets jealous – she’d be furious if she knew I was here with you right now.   Do you think I let people walk all over me?”

"She said that about you?"

Sioned is surprised that Delyth said that about her, and stresses that she stands up for people, looks after them – she is kind and considerate.

"You remind me a bit of DJ"

“You remind me a bit of DJ in that sense – don’t let anything she says change who you are.”

"I'm always here for you, Maya"

As Sioned continues, she puts her hand on Maya’s, “I’m always here for you, OK?”

"What are you doing?"

Maya is quick to pull her hand away and demands, “What are you doing?”

"Just trying to be a friend"

Sioned says that she is just trying to be a friend.   “It’s more than that – and you know it!” Maya warns, “What are you trying to do?

"I can't do this!"

“I can’t do this – you say you want to forget about what happened, but your actions say differently.   I’m trying to sort things out with Dee and this is just messing with my head!”

"I was just trying to be a friend"

When Sioned insists that she was just trying to be a friend,

"I don't need that kind of friend!"

Maya exclaims, “I don’t need that kind of friend – please, just stay away from me!” and she rapidly leaves.

"Have you finished, then?"

Howard trudges across a field, carrying his bag and DJ, leaning on a nearby gate, asks him if he has finished;

"It wasn't a big job"

“It wasn’t a big job – and I did Cae Stabl [Stable Field] as well.”

"What have you got in the bag?"

“What have you got there in the bag?” DJ enquires and is told that it is just rubbish which he has picked up.

"That top field was terrible"

Howard says that the top field was terrible and DJ can well believe it.

He thinks DJ is asking too many questions

Howard believes that DJ is suspicious;  he is quite correct in that assumption.

Kelly looks at the wedding photos

Kelly is back at Bryntirion, collecting her belongings, and is looking at the photograph album when Jason comes in.

"Sorry, I thought you would have finished"

“Sorry, I thought you would have finished by now,” he says.

She apologises for inconveniencing him;

"It's difficult to pack your life away in boxes"

“It takes time to pack your life away in boxes – know what I mean?”

"There's no rush|"

He invites her to take her time as there is no rush.

“I didn’t realise I had so much stuff,” she continues,

"What do you want me to do with our wedding album?"

“What do you want me to do with our wedding album?”   Jason asks if she wants it and she does not know the answer to that.

"I had to bribe Ifan with a chocolate orange"

She wonders what Ifan’s pyjamas are doing downstairs.   “He refused to go to school this morning – a long story, that includes bribing him with a chocolate orange to get him out of his pyjamas.   He either wanted that or ice cream.”

"Why didn't he want top go to school?"

“Ifan would live on ice cream and chocolate orange if he could,” Kelly observes, “Why didn’t he want to go to school, anyway?   He usually loves school.”

"He misses you, doesn't he?"

“He misses you, doesn’t he?   He hasn’t been himself since you left,” Jason replies.

"I thought I was doing the right thing"

Kelly is really sorry that she went away over Christmas and the New Year, “But, honest to God, I thought I was doing the right thing,” she sighs,

"You deserve a lot better than me"

“I’m sorry – you’re right – you deserve a lot better than me!”

Eileen is speaking on the phone

Eileen is on the phone;  “Did you get rid of it?   Good, we can sleep at night now,

"See you later, Howard"

“see you later.”

Sioned and DJ come in

DJ and Sioned come in with Huwi-John, who we do not actually see and DJ says that the boy enjoyed being on the tractor.

"Thanks to Howard"

He announces that has also done the mucking out, thanks to Howard.

"He's a good worker, isn't he?"

“He’s a good worker, isn’t he?” Eileen agrees, but when she is out of the room,

"How long have you been chair of the Howard Fan Club?"

Sioned demands how long DJ has been chair of the Howard Fan Club.

"Just humouring your mother"

“I’m humouring your mother – he’s been trying to hide this from us,” DJ replies,

He shows Sioned the evidence he has found

as he gets out his phone to show Sioned a photograph.

"A fox!"

“A fox!” she exclaims, and he points out that it was from yesterday’s hunt.   “They didn’t use a fox last week,” but DJ reminds her that was all show in front of the councillors.

Now we know what your mother is planning"

“Now we know what your mother is planning!”

"You were right all the time!"

Sioned realises that he has been right all the time.   “They’ve been hunting foxes right under our noses!” declares DJ.

"I think that's everything"

Kelly tidies up some of Ifan’s toys and thinks that she has everything;

"Kelly . . ."

“Kelly,” says Jason, then after a pause,

". . . if we did give it one more shot . . ."

goes on, “If we did give it one more shot, everything would have to change, OK?”

"Of course"

“Of course,” she answers.

". . . for Ifan's sake"

“If you want to be with Ifan and me, I’m willing to see how things go – for Ivan’s sake.”

Kelly is overcome with emotion

Kelly is almost in tears as she nods her agreement.

"There won't be another chance after this, – OK?"

“There won’t be another chance after this – OK?   This is the last time.”

Kelly cannot believe it

As he goes upstairs, Kelly is weeping.

Maya is also in floods of tears

In the pharmacy flat, Maya is doing the same;

Delyth hurries to her

as soon as Delyth comes in, she rushes across to comfort her.

"I'm sorry"

“I’m sorry,” says Delyth.
