Mathew tries to resuscitate Rhys

Rhys has been removed from the pool and Mathew is frantically administering artificial respiration, apparently with no result.   “Is he breathing yet?” demands Griffiths.

"Come on, Rhys!"

Mathew continues, muttering, “Come on, Rhys!”

"Where's that ambulance?"

Sioned wonders where the ambulance has got to and Griffiths maintains that it would be quicker to take him to hospital in a car.

Rhys comes back to life

Just then, Rhys responds, coughing up a large quantity of water and at that moment, his phone sounds,

Sioned gets his phone . . .

so Sioned takes it from his pocket,

. . . and finds the pills

where she finds it is accompanied by two plastic bags of pills.  Rhys is by now coughing and spluttering;

They cover him with a blanket

they cover him with a blanket.

Jason brings down the air bed

Kelly is sitting on the sofa in the semi-darkness when Jason comes downstairs, carrying the rolled-up air bed;

"Jase, we have to talk"

“Jase, come on, please.   We have to talk and sort this out, please.”   He is of the opinion that they have said enough for one night.

'I shouldn't have accused you"

“I shouldn’t have accused you – I’m really sorry,” she says,

'"You're always sorry after you're caught out"

but he replies that she is always sorry after she is caught out.

"The last thing we want is more tension"

She pleads, “The last thing we want in this house is more tension – and Ifan and Diane asking why you’re sleeping on the air bed again.   Please!”

“I agree with you,” he tells her, “Good night!”,

Jason drops the air bed

drops the air bed and returns upstairs, leaving Kelly to spend the night down there.

DJ hears a car outside

At Penrhewl, DJ, who has been waiting anxiously, hears a car approaching outside.

"I've been worried sick, Sioned!"

Sioned comes through the front door and he snarls, “I’ve been worried sick!” but this is the last thing she wants at the moment.   “I’ve been trying to phone you for hours,” he continues, “Why didn’t you answer?   I’ve imagined all kinds of things.”

"I planned to have one drink"

“Because I wanted some space – I planned to have one drink in the Deri and then come home,” she answers,

She gets some water

as she gets herself a glass of water.

"Instead you went to a party with Rhys and Mathew"

“And instead you went to a party with Rhys and Mathew,” DJ finishes her sentence.

"So you did know where I was!"

She comments that he did know where she was, in that case.

"You've just come out of hospital"

“You’ve just come out of hospital – you’re not supposed to drink,” he goes on,

"I've been out for weeks"

but she points out that she has been out of hospital for weeks and he insists on treating her as if she is still ill.

He insists that is because he is worried about her and she shouts, “I don’t want you to worry!”   He is aware that things are not perfect between them at the moment –

"We should talk to someone"

that is why he thinks they should talk to someone as a couple.

“I can’t do this now,” she answers, but he is adamant that they have to talk.   “I’ve got more important things on my mind,” she informs him,

"Rhys almost died tonight!"

“Rhys almost died tonight – is that important enough for you?”   She leaves the room.

"You might as well get some sleep"

Mathew and Griffiths return to the shop flat;  “You might as well get some sleep while he’s in overnight,” Griffiths suggests,

"Did he take something?"

“What was going on, then?   Did he take something?”

"We were just drinking and enjoying ourselves"

Mathew replies that everyone was just drinking and enjoying themselves;  “People don’t just pass out for no reason,” Ieuan adds, and intends to have a word with him tomorrow.   Mathew thanks him for the lift;

"Before Anita locks me out"

“I’d better get home before Anita locks me out,” says Ieuan.

Dai comes downstairs . . .

In the middle of the night, Dai comes downstairs

. . . and has a shock

and receives a shock when he turns on the light and sees Kelly there.

"Joseph of Arimathea!    Nefi wen!"

“Joseph of Arimathea!   What are you doing down here?   Nefi wen!   Do you want to give me a thrombo or what?”

"Jason was snoring"

Kelly has to quickly think up an excuse;  “Er, yeah, Jason was snoring – I’m surprised you didn’t hear him.”

"If I was snoring, Diane wouldn't be the one down here"

“Listen, if I was snoring, Diane wouldn’t be the one sleeping down here!” he answers, but she argues that he needs his beauty sleep, so she did not want to disturb him.   She wonders what Dai is doing there.

“I’m in pain, right, and I need tablets,” he says, and Kelly asks why he does not keep the tablets upstairs.

"Now they're in the kitchen"

“Yes, well, they were upstairs, but Diane decided to tidy up and now they’re all in the tablet drawer in the kitchen.”

Kelly is downhearted

Kelly sits and considers her situation.

"Sorry to call so late, Sioned"

Mathew makes a phone call, and apologises for calling so late;  Sioned is unable to sleep anyway.   “I had to check that you’re OK,” says Mathew.

"I'm a bit shaken up"

She confirms that she is a bit shaken up, but otherwise all right.

"I'm worried about Rhys"

He thinks that he is all right, but is worried about Rhys;

"He says that he's fine"

apparently he has texted them from the hospital, maintaining that everything is fine, but they do not believe him.

"He's hiding something"

“He’s hiding something – I know he is,” says Mathew.

Sioned suggests that she will come over in the morning and they can have a chat;

"We need our friends more than ever"

“I want to – good friends are rare – and we all need our friends now more than ever.   See you tomorrow.”

Someone is listening to the conversation

What Sioned does not realise is that DJ is just outside the door, listening.

"Hello, Jinx"

Next morning Britt is walking past number 9 when Jinx comes out;

"I feel great"

she cheerily greets him and he looks rather puzzled.

He walks towards The Pizza Place

As he walks towards The Pizza Place he meets Mathew

"How did the party go, then?"

and asks how the party went;  “You look like you’ve got the hangover of the century.”

Mathew walks away without a word

Mathew simply walks away without a word,

A box is left outside the door . . .

then Jinx finds one of his pizza boxes outside the door outside the shop.

. . . and Jinx already knows what it is

He detects a terrible smell and when he opens the box, his suspicions are confirmed.

Jason is loading the van

Next door at APD, Jason is loading the van when he notices Kelly walking towards him.   She again maintains that they need to talk, but he insists that he is busy.

"You walked out, remember?"

“I tried to talk to you last night – and you walked out, remember?”

"I'm ready to listen now, Jase"

She is sorry about that, but she is here now and is ready to listen to anything he wants to say;  “Fresh day, fresh start.”   Again, Jason simply says that he is busy,

"I'll give you five minutes"

but will give her five minutes.

"You did that, I take it?"

Unfortunately, before she has a chance to say another word, Jinx appears with the pizza box;  “You did that, I take it!” he growls,

"A box of dog dirt on my doorstep"

and Kelly has already detected the terrible stink.   “A box of dog dirt on my doorstep!”

"Why would I do something so childish?"

Jason demands why he would do something so childish;

"The same reason you ordered six pizzas"

“The same reason you ordered six pizzas last night – revenge!” says Jinx.   Jason closes the doors of the van and is about to drive away.

"Perfect timing, Jinx!"

“Hey – what are you going to do about this” Jinx shouts and Kelly congratulates him on his perfect timing.

Rhys is back home

After his near death experience the previous night, Rhys is now back at the shop flat;  he sinks down on the sofa.

"What exactly did the doctor say?"

“Are you going to tell me?” asks Mathew, “Exactly what the doctor said?”

"Plenty of rest"

“I told you on the way home – plenty of rest and to go back if I don’t feel well,” is the reply, as we hear footsteps coming up the stairs.

"That's half the story"

“That’s half the story – I know you, Rhys.”   Rhys simply repeats that he could have drowned.

Sioned arrives

Sioned enters the room, and Rhys immediately decides that he is going to bed, as he needs plenty of rest.   Mathew is anxious that they should talk first and will make a cup of coffee.

"I can't stomach any coffee"

“I don’t think I can stomach any coffee,” Rhys groans.

"But you can stomach drugs!"

“No?   But you can stomach drugs!” says Sioned, “I found them – the two bags in your pocket.”   He is speechless.

Dai does not like that

Dai is in the deli and obviously not enjoying what he is eating;  “They’re fine except for the currants –

"They're like shotgun pellets!"

“they’re like shotgun pellets!”   DJ does not think that there is much of a market for ‘Pain au Raisins’ without currants.

“They’re not a patch on your Mam-gu’s currant bread –

"Why have you dragged me down here?"

“anyway, are you going to tell me why you dragged me down here?   Come on, out with it.”

"Sioned and me – we've been having problems"

DJ answers, “Sioned and me – we’ve been having problems.   Things haven’t been right since she was ill.”

"You're fussing too much"

Dai’s diagnosis is that DJ is fussing too much;  “Like Diane with this arthritis.”

"You complained she wasn't making enough fuss"

DJ seems to remember that his father was complaining she was not making enough of a fuss.

"You've got a lot to learn, boy"

“That was deliberate – to get more attention.   You’ve got a lot to learn, boy!”

"I've been thinking about talking to someone"

DJ is quite aware of that;  “But I’ve been thinking about talking to someone – a professional.”

"Talk to Sioned a bit more"

Dai treats this suggestion with disdain;  “Crikey Moses!   You’d be better off talking to Sioned a bit more.”   When DJ argues that he has tried, he is told, “Try harder, then – what’s wrong with you youngsters today?   You make a drama or a crisis out of anything.   You and Sioned – Kelly and Jason.

"Bicker and argue, then move on"

“Look, bicker, argue and then you move on – that’s what Diane and I do – that’s why we’ve been together so long.”

"Half the time you're not talking to each other"

DJ stresses that they spend half their time not talking to each other;  “Sometimes the best thing in marriage is not to say everything – especially to a stranger.   Nefi wen!   You don’t want to share your problems with a Marjorie Proops from Bonymaen.”  [an area of Swansea].

"Americano – and make it a strong one!"

Jinx comes into the deli and asks DJ for an Americano, “And make it a strong one!”

"A seagull has defecated on his rice pudding!"

Dai remarks that he looks like a seagull has defecated on his rice pudding.

"All right, Jinx, mate?"

When asked if he is all right,

"I've been better"

Jinx replies, “I have been better.”

Another derogatory message

As he sits down, a message arrives on his phone, maintaining that his pizzas taste like ‘poo’, from someone calling themself ‘The Foodie44’.

"Why didn't you tell me earlier, Sioned?"

Mathew demands why Sioned did not tell him earlier;  “I wanted to hear what he had to say first,” she answers.

"Mathew had just saved your life!"

Rhys says that she had no right to snoop, and she snarls at him, “Mathew had just saved your life!”   Mathew cannot believe that he is involved with drugs.

"OK, I took some Coke"

“OK, I took some Coke before going out – one line,” Rhys admits

"How long have you been doing this?"

and Mathew demands how long he has been doing this.   “Chill out, Math – everyone’s doing it!”

"It's just a bit of confidence"

Sioned tells him it is all right to admit he has a problem, but he insists that he does not have a problem.   “It’s just a bit of confidence before I go out,” he explains.   Sioned does not imagine that he is short of confidence and he goes on, “It makes me feel good about myself –

"Or it did at the start"

“or it did at the start.”

Mathew demands how long this has been going on and Rhys is determined to get away from the questioning, but is ordered to sit down by Mathew.

"Last night was scary for us all"

“Last night was scary for us all, not just you – so, please, help us understand.”

Rhys replies, “A couple of months, after moving to Cardiff.   It can be a lonely place – and Tesni enjoyed that life.   She made friends straightaway and although I look confident,

"I'm not very good with new people"

“I’m not very good with new people, so sometimes I needed some help.   “Before I knew it, occasionally became every night.”

Mathew wants to know why he did not say anything about it,

"It's my problem – I have to sort it out!"

and he shouts, “Because it’s my problem – and I have to sort things out!”

Kelly is waiting for Jason

Kelly is waiting for Jason to come home;  he rushes in and asks if she is all right.   “Thanks for coming,” she says,

"What's the emergency, then?"

and had told him that there was an emergency.

"We're the emergency, Jase"

“Yes – we are the emergency, Jase.”

"You know how busy I am"

He once again complains how busy he is, but she thinks that they are more important and begs him not to leave;

"We have to sort this out today!"

“We have to sort this out today, OK?  Now!”

"Jinx, is it?"

Her phone sounds and Jason immediately assumes that it is Jinx.

"No, Auntie Anita"

“No, Auntie Anita,” she shows him.

"We literally bumped into each other"

“Jinx and I literally bumped into each other yesterday – and do you know what, Jason?   It’s going to happen – it’s Cwmderi.

"It's you I want!"

“It’s you I want!”

"Not another message!"

As Jinx emerges from the deli, he receives another message on his phone

Jinx is being watched

and walks disconsolately back to The Pizza Place;  we see that Britt is watching him from outside MFC,

This will not do her fostering application any good

with a triumphant smile on her face.

"Every time I'm happy, I have to sabotage things

“It’s the pattern of life,” says Kelly, “Every time I’m happy, I have to sabotage things – and I know I’ve said it a thousand times over – you are the best thing that’s ever happened to me, OK, Jase?   You’re kind, you’re uncomplicated . . .”

"Why do you find discussion so difficult?"

He remarks that does not always apply;  “But if all that is true, why do you find it so difficult to discuss things with me?”

"I don't know"

Kelly does not know the answer to that, but stresses that Jinx was the first person to make her feel . . . good about herself –

"I still find it easy to talk to him"

and she still finds it easy to talk to him, to turn to him, or whatever.

"Why can't you turn to me?"

“Why can’t you turn to me?” Jason asks,

"I don't want to push you back to gambling"

and she replies that she does not want to push him back to gambling.   “And talking to Jinx will do that, will it?” he says, sceptically.

"I have to learn that"

“I know, and I have to learn that,” she says.

"If we want this marriage to work . . ."

Jason stresses that if they want this marriage to work, she will have to do that.   “If we want this marriage to work, you have to help me as well, mind, OK?” she snaps,

"Stop flying off the handle every time I talk to him!"

“And stop flying off the handle every time I talk to Jinx, OK?   Just accept that we are mates – end of!”

Jason hopes that Jinx is aware of that as well and she makes it very clear that he is.

"One more question"

Having got that out of the way, Kelly has one more question,

"Did I find a dog to poo in a pizza box?"

which he anticipates to be, “Did I find a dog to poo in a pizza box just to spite Jinx?   No, I didn’t.”

They both burst out laughing

Kelly smiles as she asks him, “Honest?” and they both burst out laughing,

They kiss

followed by a kiss, just as Dai walks in the door.

"Oh, hallelujah!"

“Oh, hallelujah!” he exclaims, “That’s better!   Do you know what?

"Pushing water uphill with a fork!"

“Sometimes I feel like you two are trying to push water up a hill with a fork!

"Is it safe to come down in my pyjamas?"

“I assume it’s safe to come down in my pyjamas at night now?   Good!”

Sioned puts dinner in the oven

Sioned puts their meal into the oven and announces to DJ that they are having shop-bought lasagne, as she does not feel like cooking.

"You must be tired after running around after Mathew and Rhys"

He says that he could have brought something fresh back from Tamed and imagines that she must be tired after running after Mathew and Rhys all day.

"I haven't been running after anyone!"

“I haven’t been running after anyone – I called to see Rhys this morning to make sure he was all right.   You do remember what happened last night, don’t you?”

"Only too well"

“Only too well, DJ groans and sits down on the sofa.

"I think the world of you"

“I think the world of you,” Sioned tells him,

"Do you?"

but he has doubts on that score.   “I know I can rely on you,” she says.

"I should have been honest with you"

Rhys is still in a dishevelled state when Mathew comes in;  “Sorry if Sioned and I lectured you.”   Rhys realises he should have been honest with them when he got back from Cardiff.

"If you need help, all you have to do is ask"

“Well, if you need help, all you have to do is ask,” Mathew continues,

"Stop going on about it, Math"

but Rhys is adamant that he is not going to do it again and wants Matthew to stop going on about it.

"I'm trying to support you"

“I’m trying to support you – someone who can handle a problem doesn’t get angry every time it’s mentioned.   You have to talk to me.”

"I don't want to – because I'm ashamed!"

“Well, I don’t want to – because I’m ashamed!”

"You don't have to be ashamed of a Coke problem"

Mathew tells him he does not need to feel ashamed of a Coke problem.

"That's not what it is"

“That’s not what it is – just leave me alone, right?”

"Tell me what the problem is"

Mathew pleads with him, “Tell me what the problem is.”

"There was Rohypnol as well . . ."

“They found something else in my blood last night – there was Rohypnol as well –

". . . the stuff that's used to rape people"

“yes, the stuff that’s used to rape people.   I didn’t take it – and they said it couldn’t have been from the Coke, because the level of Rohypnol was too high.”

"So you were 'spiked'!"

Mathew comes to the conclusion that he was ‘spiked’,

"Why would someone do that to me"?"

and Rhys sobs, “Why would someone do that to me?”
