"I shall have to cancel lunch'

As they walk along the street together, Anita tells Ieuan that she is going to have to cancel lunch today;  “I have to go to Cwrtmynach to sell stuff to Merched y Wawr.” [the Women’s Institute]   He complains that he was looking forward to that, 

"I want you to be supportive, Ieuan"

but she reminds him that ‘Meddal’ is growing and she wants him to be supportive.

"I'm looking forward to being pampered . . ."

Gaynor comes out of the pharmacy to inform Anita that she is looking forward to being pampered tonight;  

"Five o'clock, isn't it?"

“We agreed on five o’clock in Maes-y-Deri, didn’t we?”

It had slipped Anita's mind

It appears that Anita had forgotten about that and she moans to Ieuan that she has two pampering parties within two hours of each other, so she will have to immediately go and prepare.   

"What about dinner?"

“Anita, what about dinner?” he demands, but she is already walking away.

Britt still has reservations

Britt, equipped with a face-mask and holding the CO alarm, is still sceptical when Hywel assures her that number 21 is safe.   

"It wasn't safe last week, was it?"

“It wasn’t safe last week, was it?” she snarls and he confirms that no-one was more shocked than him.

"Where have you been, then?"

Colin comes in, exclaiming, “Oh, here he is – where have you been, then?   At last – it would have been easier to find Lord Lucan!”

"Sorry about what happened"

Hywel explains that he has been on a course;  he is sorry about what happened, but everything is sorted now;  

He produces a box of Black Magic

he produces a box of chocolates to welcome them back.

"Almost murdering us!"

“If you think chocolates are going to make up for almost murdering us . . .” Britt begins, and Hywel can understand that she is upset.

“Upset?” shouts Colin, 

"This close to kicking the bucket!"

“We were this close to kicking the bucket!”   

Hywel points out that is what happens when you use a cheap plumber.   Britt is quite adamant that if it were not for Iolo, she and Colin would both be dead.

“Listen, he came here a fortnight ago to service that boiler – it wasn’t leaking carbon monoxide until he started fiddling,” Hywel tells her.

"I won't take the risk again"

“I’ve learnt my lesson – I won’t take the risk again.   That’s why I’ve asked one of the best plumbers around to service that boiler later, just in case it happens again.   I’m glad you’re feeling better – I’ve been worried sick about you.   Right, phone if you need anything.”

"Wait until I get hold of him!"

Now Britt’s anger is directed towards Iolo;  “Wait until I get hold of him!” she growls.

Siôn is doing some housework

Siôn is vacuuming at Y Felin, while Iolo reads the paper;  “Hey, Dad!” he shouts, “You’ve already hoovered there!”   

"I might go over to see Ffion later"

His father just wants Cai to feel comfortable and thinks that he might go over to see Ffion later for a chat.

“A chat about what?” Iolo demands, and it is explained that she knows a lot about mental health;  

"Someone interrupted us last week"

they did not get a chance to talk last week – because someone interrupted them.   

"Stop using this as a chance to get close to Ffion!"

“Stop using this as a chance to get close to Ffion!” insists Iolo.   Siôn replies that he is just worried about Cai and nothing else, then resumes vacuuming.

"Gone-off Stilton!"

Cassie picks up a pair of shoes in the Deri flat;  “These smell like gone-off Stilton!” she comments to Kath.

"It reminds me of living with Mark"

“Yes, it reminds me of living with Mark,” she replies, “Listen, Cassie, what do you think people think about us letting Rhys stay here?”

"The police don't think he's guilty"

“Well the police have talked to him and don’t think he’s guilty – there’s no evidence that anything happened in the Deri,” is Cassie’s answer.   

"I heard that he spiked himself"

Indeed, Kath has heard that Rhys is suspected of spiking himself.   “Innocent until proven guilty,” she is reminded.

Kath maintains that it does not reflect well on the Deri, but Cassie points out that everyone has turned their backs on him;  

"How would you feel if it was Mark?"

“How would you feel if Mark was in the same situation?”

"We agreed on one night, didn't we?"

“Yes, but we agreed on one night, didn’t we?” is Kath’s reply, and Cassie agrees that he is lingering little bit.

Then Rhys comes in

Then he walks into the room and is asked if he is working today;  

"I've taken the week off"

“I’ve taken the week off,” he says.   

"We love having you here, but . . ."

Kath maintains that they are anxious about him and Mathew falling out, when they were such good friends.   They love having him there, but they do not want things to turn sour between him and his best friend.

“I’m not crawling to Mathew!” he declares and it is suggested that a sensible chat might be an idea.   “He turned his back on me when I needed him the most,” Rhys goes on, and is reminded that holding a grudge like this does not sort anything out.

"I'm renting out the house"

“You don’t want to live here with the two of us, when you’ve got your own house,” Kath adds.   He realises that they simply want to get rid of him, which of course they deny;  he informs them that he is renting it out to people, but they should not worry, he will find someone else.

"I really fancy a curry tonight"

Just as he is about to leave the room, Kath makes a suggestion;  “Do you know what?   I really fancy a takeaway tonight – a curry – what do you say, Rhys?”   He agrees, 

"I don't fancy a curry"

but Cassie does not fancy a curry.   “You won’t be eating it, good girl,” she is told.

Anita emerges from the shop

Anita comes out of the shop just as Ffion happens to be passing;  “Oh, you must really have offended him – if he’s getting chocolates and wine!” she remarks.   

"They're for the 'Meddal 'party"

Anita explains that they are for the ‘Meddal’ party and hopes that Ffion will be coming to Maes-y-Deri this evening.   

"If my meeting finishes in time"

She hopes to do so if her meeting is finished.

"What do you say to a man who can't take a hint?"

Then her phone sounds and she sighs, “What do you say to a man who can’t take a hint?”   Anita’s experience is that men do not take hints and it must be spelled out to them.   Ffion says that is easier said than done.

"Anita, are you free for an hour or two?"

Mathew comes running across the road to ask if Anita is free for an hour or two this afternoon;  

"No – sorry, Mathew!"

she is unable to help as she has two pampering parties and hurries away.   

"Do you have any plans this evening?"

Cassie notices him standing there, looking dismayed, and wonders if he has any plans for this evening.   

"I don't think so"

As he does not, 

"I heard that you know a lot about curry"

she continues, “I heard that you know a lot about curry – that nobody knows more than you around here.”   He confesses that he does like his Rogan Josh, so she comes up with some myth about having curry nights at the Deri.

“We thought you could come over tonight for a taster menu – Rhys has gone away for a few days.   You’re not going to turn down a dinner like that, are you?   Samosas, poppadoms.”   

"I'll come over after work"

He agrees to come over after work.

A plumber arrives at number 21

A van has pulled up outside number 21 

"Come in"

and a plumber is taken inside by Britt, who suddenly notices Iolo walking past MFC.

Britt shouts at Iolo

“You’ve got a nerve, walking around the place like some hero!” she shouts, “Service?   More like disservice!   That boiler wasn’t fit!”   He cannot understand what she is going on about.

“That boiler wasn’t leaking carbon monoxide until you serviced it!” she rants, 

"I didn't service it, Britt!"

and he makes it very clear that he did not service it.   “I should report you – stay out of my way, Iolo!” she yells, 

Ffion appears

just as Ffion is approaching.

"You've settled well in here"

Kath and Cassie arrive at Maes-y-Deri, commenting on the fact that Cheryl and Gaynor have settled there.   

"The decor is not quite to my taste . . ."

“Although the decor is not quite to my taste,” Gaynor tells them, “You know what I mean – we’d like to put our stamp on the place – 

". . . we must get rid of some of these antiques"

“and get rid of some of these antiques.”

"Don't touch them – they're Brynmor's"

Kath immediately warns her not to touch them, as they belong to Brynmor.   Anita is late, 

"Anita's taken on too much"

and Cassie is convinced that she has taken on too much;  “She’s given up her job in Tamed because she’s doing well with these creams.”

"Thinks she's Cwmderi's big business-woman"

“She thinks she’s Cwmderi’s big business-woman,” Kath sneers, but Gaynor is looking forward to this handcream everyone is talking about.   

"My hands look 20 years younger"

Cassie can recommend it, maintaining that her hands look 20 years younger, but it is a pity it does not do the same for her knees.

"Sorry I'm late, ladies"

Then Anita arrives, full of apologies for her lateness, 

"Merched y Wawr went berserk!"

giving a bottle and some chocolates to Cheryl.   “Do you know what?   Merched y Wawr in Cwrtmynach went berserk!” she says.   

"Yeah – they're pretty wild over there"

Kath has heard that they are pretty wild over there. 

The free samples are handed out

The free samples are handed out and Anita will start with the skin cleanser, which comes with a little bamboo cloth.

"My meeting can wait, Iolo"

Ffion comes into Cysgod y Glyn, and will make a cup of tea for Iolo and herself;  she says that her meeting can wait, 

That Siôn is persistent

then her phone sounds again with another incoming call from Siôn which she ignores.

"I didn't touch that boiler!"

“I didn’t touch that boiler – I told Hywel it needed a full service!” Iolo exclaims and Ffion can see that Hywel should have sorted it out.   “I can’t see why Britt is blaming me all of a sudden,” he goes on.

Ffion suspects that someone has had a word in her ear;  

"Someone who is looking for a scapegoat!"

“Someone who is looking for a scapegoat!”   

"He wouldn't go that far?"

Iolo cannot believe that Hywel would go that far, 

"Hywel would sell his grandmother"

but she advises, “Hywel would sell his grandmother to save his skin.”

Rhys prepares for the meal

As Rhys puts the plates on the table for their meal someone can be heard coming upstairs;  

"I could smell that curry from . . .'

“I could smell that curry from . . .” says Mathew, and then realises that only Rhys is there.   “What are you doing here?” he asks and Rhys asks him the same question.   

"I'm having a curry with Kath and Cassie"

“I’m having a curry with Kath and Cassie,” Mathew replies.

"No – I'm having a curry with Kath and Cassie"

“No, I’m having a curry with Kath and Cassie,” Rhys maintains 

They have been set up

and they realise that they have been set up.

"I made it clear that boiler needed a service . . ."

Iolo goes to Llwyncelyn where he confronts Hywel;  “I made it clear that the boiler needed a service – and I’ve got a message to prove it,” he snarls, 

". . . I'm not going to be thrown under the bus for this!"

“I’m not going to be thrown under the bus for this!”

"What was I supposed to do, Iolo?"

Hywel wonders what he was supposed to do;  “You told Colin and Britt it was my fault they were poisoned,” rages Iolo, but Hywel denies that he said any such thing.

"I told you that the boiler wasn't fit!"

“I told you that the boiler was not fit!” Iolo goes on, 

"I never said a word against you"

while Hywel insists he has not said a word against him, 

"She's always looking for someone to blame"

adding that Britt is always looking for someone to blame.   “You didn’t hear her shouting at me,” says Iolo, so Hywel will have a word with them and they will come round;  Iolo should just keep out of their way for a while.

"We'll look after each other, right?"

“Hey, Iolo – we’ll back each other, we’ll look after each other, right?” he proposes.

Siôn turns up again

Ffion is just coming out of Cysgod y Glyn when she sees Siôn;  “I’ve just seen your message,” she tells him, “It’s been a hectic day 

"I'm on my way out"

“and I’m on my way out.”   Her firmness then begins to give way, as she suggest that he could come back later;  

You have not been firm enough with him, Ffion 

with a satisfied smirk, he walks away.

"Now the velvet  cream"

Anita continues with her pamper party, where they have only one thing left, which is the ‘Velvet Cream’.   “With this stuff, my skin has never felt so soft – 

"Even Ieuan's noticed!"

“and between you and me, even Ieuan’s noticed!”

Cheryl is having some trouble here

Cheryl is experiencing some itching on her hands 

They are all persuaded to buy . . .

as Gaynor decides that she will order one of everything;  Anita points out that if she goes for a full package it is a better bargain.   Cassie will do the same and Kath agrees that it is lovely.

. . . all except Cheryl, that is

Cheryl is obviously allergic to something 

"It must be something you've eaten"

and Anita thinks that it may be something she has eaten.   The itching is becoming unbearable, so she goes to wash her hands, 

"You know what?   I might cancel that order"

while Kath thinks it might be wise to cancel her order, 

"And so shall I"

and is followed by Gaynor.

“This has never happened before!” exclaims Anita, as she can see her profit slowly slipping away.

They are enjoying their curry

Not wishing to waste a good curry, Mathew and Rhys are eating;  “It must be odd, living here with two middle-aged women,” says Mathew, 

"We're not always on the same wavelength"

and is told that they are not always on the same wavelength.

Rhys has even started laughing at his own jokes, because they do not get them;  “But they’re trying to get rid of me – that’s what this is.”   

"You're welcome to move back in"

Mathew assures him that he is welcome to move back in, if he still wants to.   

"I can't live with someone who doesn't trust me"

“I can’t live with someone who doesn’t trust me,” groans Rhys.

“You know, if there’s one thing I know about you, it’s that you’re hopeless at telling lies,” Mathew begins, 

"I believe you, OK?"

“If it was you, you would have admitted it by now – I believe you, OK?   I can’t let you stay here for ever, can I?   Look, I’m sorry for doubting you.”

Their friendship is restored

Their little crisis over, they hug each other;  “Bring your stuff over when you’re ready – 

"I'm not promising to laugh at your jokes"

“but I’m not promising to laugh at your jokes,” Mathew warns.

"I told him I should report him"

“And I told him we should report him!” Britt tells Colin;  

"Why did you say that?"

he wonders why she said that.   “Because we should, Col – what he did almost killed us!”

Colin argues that he did not do it intentionally and he has been a friend for ages;  

"He should never be allowed near a boiler!"

Britt still maintains that he should not be allowed near a boiler ever again.

"After your antics, you have no right to judge!"

“After all your antics with that pranking, you have no right to judge!” he reprimands her, “Thank heavens Jinx didn’t go to the police to report you.   Please, just leave things alone.”

"What if it happens to someone else?"

“But what if it happens to someone else?” she demands and they hear a knock at the door;  it is Iolo again.   

"I didn't touch the boiler!"

“Look, I know you don’t want to see me.   I couldn’t stay away, knowing you think I’m to blame – I didn’t touch the boiler – I didn’t service it!”

Britt orders him to get out, 

"Let Iolo have his say, Britt!"

but for once Colin overrules her;  “Let Iolo have his say!”

“I told Hywel it needed a full service, but I was too busy.”   Britt sneers that is the sort of thing he would say, and Colin adds that Hywel did not say anything about that when he brought the chocolates.   

"I have a message to prove it!"

Iolo has a message on his phone to prove that is what happened.

"He said you'd serviced the boiler"

“Let me get this straight, now,” interrupts Colin, “He said you’d serviced the boiler and that is what caused the leak.”   Iolo points that Hywel is obviously lying in that case.

"Everyone cancelled their orders!"

Over their meal in the Deri, Anita is complaining bitterly, “And then everyone cancelled their orders!”

Ieuan is confident that they will come round by tomorrow, 

"Skin crinkled like prunes"

“When their skin will be as dry as the Sahara, crinkled like prunes.”   

"Look, Cheryl's done a review"

Then she discovers that Cheryl has done a review and complained about the rash.   

"She's only warning people"

“She’s only warning people,” he says, 

"You gave out that responsibility form"

“You’ve covered your tracks by giving out that responsibility form – you have nothing to worry about.”

"Oh dear!"

As he pays a visit to the gent’s, Anita realises that she has omitted something.

"Cai is coming home tomorrow"

Sure enough, Siôn has come back to Cysgod y Glyn and is informing Ffion that Cai is coming home tomorrow.   

"But something else is worrying me"

She is confident that he will not want any fuss.   “But something else is worrying me, too,” he adds, “The kiss.”

"We've said we'll forget about it"

“Siôn, we discussed this last week – Cai will never know about it and there is nothing else to say,” she answers, “It was a strange time for us all, wasn’t it?   And we’ve said we’ll forget about it.”

"But I can't forget about it . . ."

“But that’s the thing – I can’t,” he lamely replies, 

". . . I didn't realise there was an attraction between us"

“I didn’t realise there was an attraction between us.”

"There isn't!"

Ffion is quick to point out that there is no such thing;  

"I don't fancy you, sorry"

“It it was a mistake – I don’t fancy you, sorry.”

He gets up and leaves

Very disappointed, he gets up from the table and walks out of the flat, 

"Sorry"

apologising to her on the way out.   

Is this the end of the matter?

Has she finally got rid of him?

"All smiles, like some Cheshire Cat!"

“And to think he had the cheek to turn up here all smiles, like some Cheshire cat, and blame Iolo for the whole thing!” rages Colin.   Meanwhile, Iolo is in the boiler cupboard, 

What is this that Iolo has dropped?

where he drops something, then picks up some tablets from the floor 

Whatever it is, he looks guilty about it

and replaces them in his pocket.

"Colin, I don't know who to believe"

“Colin, I don’t know to believe,” sighs Britt , “It’s his word against Hywel’s.”

"The last time it had a service was . . . today?"

Iolo returns, carrying some paperwork;  “You see?   I would have signed this if I’d serviced it.   The last time it had a service was . . . today?”

"Hywel sent over a decent plumber"

Britt tells him that Hywel sent over a decent plumber;  “Talk about after the horse has bolted!” growls Colin.

“Did the plumber put that alarm in?” Iolo demands, 

"I'm telling you there was no alarm there last week!"

“Because I’m telling you now there was no alarm there last week!”  

"He was covering his tracks"

Colin concludes that he is saying Hywel has put it in.   Britt realises that he was covering his tracks 

"That sly fox!"

and Colin describes him as a ‘sly fox’.

"I'm so sorry, Iolo"

Now Britt is full of apologies to Iolo for accusing him;  “Honestly, I’m sorry – Hywel’s deceived us all.   But there we are, 

"He's going to pay!"

“we’ve caught him now – and he’s going to pay!”
