"What?  At the hospital?"

Gaynor and Cassie are gossiping outside the Deri;  “What – at the hospital?   Are they all right?” Gaynor asks.   She is told that Iolo is waiting to hear more news.

"Does he think their drinks were 'spiked'?"

“Does he think their drinks were ‘spiked’?” is the next question and it is believed that is what he suspects.

Hywel approaches

When Hywel can be seen coming from the direction of the Health Centre, Gaynor asks him if he has heard about this;

"They think it's this Rohypnol business again"

“Britt and Colin have been rushed to hospital – Iolo thinks it’s this Rohypnol business again.”

"It must have happened at the Deri"

He recalls that they were in the Deri, and Gaynor jumps to the conclusion that it must have happened there.   Hywel is quick to point out that Rhys was not there, so it could not have been him;  “They were long gone before Rhys arrived.

Mark tells Cheryl what has happened

Mark is again at Maes-y-Deri, telling Cheryl what has happened;  “Awful, isn’t it?   This place gets more like Twin Peaks every day!” she comments, “It spices life up, doesn’t it?   Not that I think it’s entertaining –

"Forget I said that"

“I’ve put my foot in it – just forget I said that.”

"You don't regret coming to Cwmderi, then?"

“You don’t regret coming to Cwmderi, then?” he enquires,

"There are advantages"

and she replies that there are advantages.   He had better carry on with his round, and Cheryl wonders if he fancies a Chinese later.

She asks what he likes;  “Are you a chop suey or a chow mein guy?”

"I like Peking Duck, actually"

He says that he likes Peking Duck,

"Ooh –posh!"

which she regards as ‘posh’.

"Coffee time"

Maya returns to the pharmacy with two coffees, but cannot see Gaynor.

Someone is in the consulting room

Then she hears voices from inside the consulting room;  “There are other options but that’s what I would advise.   And remember, if the symptoms get worse, come back, all right?”

Gaynor has been advising a customer

The door opens and it becomes obvious that Gaynor has been recommending treatment to a pharmacy customer.   Maya is very concerned about this;

"What do you think you're doing?"

“What do you think you’re doing?” she snarls, “You can’t give advice to customers – you’re not a trained pharmacist!”

"It was only general advice"

Gaynor dismisses it as only general advice, based on her own experience.

"I could get into serious trouble for this!"

“Do you realise – I could get into serious trouble for this, legally and ethically!” Maya goes on, “If you gave the wrong advice, I could be sued.”

"It was only a sore throat"

Gaynor points out that it was only a sore throat and she will be fine in a couple of days.   Maya wants to know how she is sure of that;  “Well, I was just trying to help – and I thought it was nice for her to be able to discuss it in Welsh,” Gaynor replies.

She is given strict instructions

Maya makes it quite clear, “You are under no circumstances to use that consultation room or give advice to customers again!”

"Things work differently in a small village like this"

Gaynor does think that she is rather overreacting to this, as things work a bit differently in a small village like Cwmderi.

"I didn't mean what I said last night"

As Hywel walks past number 10, which is still for sale, he leaves a message for Rhys;  “Sorry about last night – I didn’t mean what I said – I don’t suspect you at all.   Just phone me when you get this.”

"Have you started an investigation?"

Delyth is just coming out of the shop just as Hywel passes;  “It’s awful about Colin and Britt, isn’t it?”he says, “Have you started the investigation into the spiking?

"I can tell you now it wasn't Rhys"

“I can tell you now it wasn’t Rhys.”

"It was carbon monoxide poisoning"

“Spiking?   No, it was carbon monoxide poisoning, apparently,” she replies, “And they’re lucky Iolo found them in time.

". . . I kept telling people to check their batteries"

“I keep telling people to check their batteries, but there we are.   Anyway, I’ve got the day off today

"I'm cooking Thai green curry"

“and I’m going to treat Maya to a Thai green curry, so I’ve got cooking to do.”

Cassie is cutting up lemons

In the Deri, Cassie, who is just cutting up lemons, is told by Sioned that the rugby club committee will not be meeting there.

"Some of the girls refused to come here"

“I’m sorry, Cassie, but some of the girls refused to come here for the meeting.”

"I knew this would happen"

Cassie knew that this would happen, and will tell her if she hears any more about Britt and Colin.

Sioned ignores Rhys

Rhys comes in and Sioned deliberately ignores him;  he is informed that Britt and Colin are in hospital;

"They've been 'spiked' as well?"

“They suspect Rohypnol,” Cassie adds, and he is concerned that they have been ‘spiked’ as well.   He wonders where it happened.

"Where do you think?"

“Where do you think?” Cassie growls.

"It must have been done here"

Rhys realises that he took a bottle from the Deri to the party;  “It must be when someone put Rohypnol in my drink.   It makes sense, if Colin and Britt were ‘spiked’ here as well.

"Who else was her last night?"

“Who else was here last night?   This is important – try to remember, Cassie.”

Casting her mind back to the previous night, she recalls Iolo and Sioned;  “She wasn’t here long and she was with me the whole time – I would have seen her.

"There was that Bronwen woman and your father"

Then there was that Bronwen woman and your father.”

Then Cassie cuts herself

Rhys hurriedly leaves, and Cassie, not looking at what she is doing, manages to cut her finger.

There is a toolbox on the table in number 21

Hywel comes in through the back door of number 21, where a mechanic is attending to the boiler;

"I got a call to look at the boiler"

“Mr Llywelyn?” he says, “Andrew Meeks – I got a call to look at the boiler – everything is fine now.”

Hywel maintains that he cannot understand why the CO2 alarm did not go off;

"Perhaps the tenants didn't change the batteries"

“Perhaps the batteries ran out and the tenants didn’t change them.”

"I'll leave you to it, then"

He leaves the engineer to finish the job.

"I'll take over from here, Gaynor"

In the pharmacy, Gaynor is cleaning up Cassie’s cut;  she  admits that her mind was elsewhere at the time.   Maya announces that she will take over from there;  “There are some cardboard boxes in the back – can you sort them, please?”

"Will I need stitches"

Cassie asks if she will need stitches, but is informed that is not necessary.

"Looks as if you've got the measure of Gaynor"

“Looks as if you’ve got the measure of Gaynor already,” she remarks

"She can be quite authoritative"

and Maya agrees that she can be quite authoritative.   “She’s had years of practice – probably thinks you’re one of her pupils,” answers Cassie.

"I feel like I'm at school"

Maya confesses that she does feel like she is at school when Gaynor is around, especially with the Welsh.   Cassie advises her to take no notice;  “She can be a bit pedantic.”

"If I could speak Welsh, things would be easier"

Maya is under the impression that if she could speak Welsh, things would be easier.

“The key thing is not to worry about it – and you’re doing very well,” is Cassie’s verdict.   Maya searches for the word meaning ‘appreciate’,

"It's a mouthful for us who speak Welsh!"

and is told, “Gwerthfawrogi – it’s a mouthful for us who speak Welsh!”

Hywel sneaks into number 21 . . .

Hywel again creeps stealthily into the back door of number 21,

. . . with a CO2 alarm . . .

having purchased a CO alarm and looks for an inconspicuous place to put it.

. . . which he hides away

He decides on a wall cupboard and places it out of sight behind something else.

This should get him off the hook

He hopes that this will absolve him of any responsibility.

They are about to get stuck into their Chinese

Cheryl and Mark are ready to start on their Chinese meal;

"I love prawn crackers!"

“I love prawn crackers – they’re so moreish!” she says,

Gaynor arrives . . .

and when Gaynor comes home, they think they will have to split it three ways.

. . . but she does not fancy any

Fortunately Gaynor does not fancy that, but simply wants a quiet night.

Cheryl assumes that it has been one of those days;

"That Maya can the very authoritative"

“Yes, that Maya can be very authoritative – she’s nice enough, but I think having her as a boss is going to be a challenge.”

"How about that history teacher?"

Mark comments, “She’s not as bad as that history teacher who thought she ran the school.”   Cheryl remembers that they used to work together, and he describes them as good days.

Mark thinks it best not to comment

Cheryl wants to know what she was like as a boss, but Mark diplomatically does not reply.

"Right, Sally is elected as vice-chair"

The meeting of the rugby club is taking place at The Bull;

This is Sally on the right

Sally is duly elected as vice-chair

Their chips are served

and their chips are brought in.

"Delyth is cooking for me tonight"

Maya will not eat as Delyth is cooking for her tonight;  “She taken the day off work to cook for me – and that never happens.

"I'd do anything to have a night off cooking dinner"

Ffion would do anything to have a night off cooking dinner;

"A little bird told me . . ."

Sioned comments, “A little bird told me you had a lovely dinner last night – nothing stays secret in this place!”

"Moving swiftly on . . ."

Ffion moves on swiftly to the next item on the agenda;  the secretary.

"I nominate Maya"

Sioned is quick to nominate Maya, but she is very reluctant, even though she is assured it is not much work and she would be doing them a huge favour.

"You've obviously got good organisational skills"

“You’ve obviously got good organisational skills if you can run a pharmacy,” adds Ffion.

"Please, guys, I can't – right?"

“Please, guys, I can’t – right?” Maya tells them

She storms off

and gets up from the table.

Delyth send Maya a message

Meanwhile at the pharmacy flat, Delyth takes a photo on her phone of the meal and sends it, with a message warning Maya not to be late.

As Hywel sneaks out of number 21

Hywel has come out of the front door of number 21 this time and is quickly spotted by Rhys;  “What were you doing in there?” he demands.

"I've been doing some tidying up"

His father maintains that he has been doing a bit of tidying up before Britt and Colin come back from hospital.

"Getting rid of the evidence?"

“Not getting rid of the evidence?” suggests Rhys, “I’ve done the maths, Dad – I took a drink from the Deri to the party, so anyone who was in the bar that night could have ‘spiked’ it.

"Who was in there both nights?   You, Dad!"

“Britt and Colin were drinking in the Deri last night – and who was in there both nights?   You, Dad!”

"Britt and Colin were not 'spiked'"

Hywel assures him that Britt and Colin were not ‘spiked’ but Rhys will not listen;

"Were you going to 'spike' that girl last night as well?"

“Were you going to ‘spike’ that girl last night as well?”   His father accuses him of losing the plot and walks away,

"You've got form, Dad!"

as Rhys continues, “You’ve got form, Dad – going with Stacey – going with Mam when she was what?   Sixteen?”

"I'm not listening to any more of this!"

“I’m not listening to any more of this!   Last night it was Sioned – today it’s me – you’ve lost it!” snarls Hywel.

Rhys does not believe that is true;

"Someone who 'spikes' people and blames his own son!"

“I don’t think I can live with someone who ‘spikes’ people and blames his own son!”

"Perhaps she and Delyth have fallen out"

Sioned thinks that Maya’s sudden disappearance might indicate that she has enough on her plate with the pharmacy;  “Or perhaps she and Delyth have fallen out – she doesn’t seem easy-going.”

Maya is in apologetic mood

At that moment Maya returns and apologises to them;

"It's absolutely fine"

“Look, if you don’t want to be secretary, it’s absolutely fine,” Sioned tells her.

That is not what is bothering Maya;  “You already have to do most of the meeting in English – and if I was secretary everything would have to be in English.   That matters to me – I’d feel guilty –

"Everyone shouldn't change their language because of me"

“everyone shouldn’t change their language because of me.”

"There's an easy solution"

Ffion proposes that if that is all it is, there is an easy solution;  “We’ll hold all meetings in Welsh and if you don’t understand, you just have to ask.”   Sioned agrees that it is definitely the quickest way to learn.

"I might be a bit slow taking notes"

Maya predicts that she might be a bit slow taking notes, so she is advised by Ffion that she can record of the meeting on her phone and translate it afterwards.

"All right – I'm in!"

Maya regards that as a great idea, and tells them that she is in.

A message from 'Sweet Dee'

She goes to get more drinks, and in her absence, her phone buzzes with a message from ‘Sweet Dee’.

Mark takes the leftovers home with him

At Maes-y-Deri, Cheryl is stuffed and Mark will take home the leftovers;  he thanks for the meal, which he has really enjoyed and Cheryl would like to do it again some time.

"I thought he'd never leave"

After he has gone, Gaynor turns on the television and comments, “Thank goodness, I thought he’d never leave!   Well, he was here last week having dinner – perhaps she’s hoping to try his luck with you again,”

"Why are you laughing?"

and Cheryl wonders why she is laughing.

"Well, his heart's in the right place, but . . ."

“His heart’s in the right place, but it’s strange to think that you look at Mark in that way.”

"I'm going to walk off this food"

Cheryl does not appreciate her comment and decides that she is going out to walk off the food.

It is more light-hearted now

The rugby club meeting has livened up somewhat when Delyth can be seen walking in through the door.

"You're still alive, then?"

“Sorry to interrupt, girls – you’re still alive, then?” she snarls at Maya, “I thought you might have forgotten your phone,”

"I forgot it was on silent"

which shows several missed calls.   Maya forgot she had left it on silent.

“Don’t tell me – you didn’t notice the time, either,” Delyth moans.

"The meeting went on longer than usual"

Ffion  tries to explain that the meeting went on longer than usual with having to come to The Bull.

"I shouldn't have bothered"

“Dinner’s ruined now – I shouldn’t have bothered – you’ve clearly eaten already,”  Delyth declares.

"Given her a break!"

Sioned urges her to give Maya a break,

"Mind your own business!"

but is told to mind her own business.

"Just let me finish my drink"

Maya will just finish her drink and then will go home, but Delyth walks out.

"It's like the Marie Celeste in here"

When Mark goes to the Deri for his pint, the notices that it is rather like the Marie Celeste there

"If this carries on, I'll have to give up"

and Cassie sighs, “Well, if things carry on like this, I’ll have to give up.”

"How about a two-for-one offer?"

Mark, on the other hand, predicts that people will soon forget and that suggests that if she introduces an offer, ‘two-for one’, on a couple of nights, they will be back like a shot.

"That's a good idea, Mark"

She regards that as a good idea

"Who is she, then?   Cheryl?"

and then he receives a telephone message;  “Who is she, then?” asks Cassie, “Cheryl?” and he assumes that his mother has been talking.

"She's a lovely girl"

“She’s a lovely girl,” adds Cassie, and he maintains that they are just friends;  he enjoys her company.   “How does she feel about you?” is the next question
and he is not quite sure about that.

"I don't want to look too keen"

“She just texted me, thanking me for a nice night, so . . . but I don’t want to look too keen.”

"Nothing worse than having a man in your hair"

Cassie observes that there is nothing worse than having an man in your hair all the time.

He is keeping an eye on her camera doorbell

He looks at his phone, which has been coupled to her doorbell, and watches her walking up to the door.

Rhys looks despondent

Rhys is sitting disconsolately outside the Deri

"You must be cold, sitting there"

and Cassie imagines that he must be cold, sitting there.

"I can't stay with someone who 'spikes' people"

“I can’t stay with someone who ‘spikes’ people,” he growls, “The party – Britt and Colin –

"Dad was responsible!"

“Dad was responsible!”

"He wouldn't do something like that"

Cassie insists that his father would not do something like that and he needs to stop going round the village, accusing everyone.

"I've lost everything, Cassie!"

“But I have to clear my name – don’t you see?   If I don’t find out who did it, everyone will think I’m a rapist.   I don’t have any friends left  I don’t have anywhere to live!   I’ve lost everything, Cassie!”

"I'm so sorry – I just lost track of time"

In the pharmacy flat, Maya comes in, looking for Delyth;  “I’m so sorry,” she says, “I just lost track of time.

"I've been elected secretary of the rugby team"

“I’ve been elected as a secretary of the women’s rugby club – aren’t you going to congratulate me?”

"I was worried that I've been neglecting you"

“I went to all this effort because I was worried that I’ve been neglecting you – I wanted to spend time with you,” Delyth replies.

"It seems like nothing I do is right"

Maya responds, “I’ve apologised so I don’t know what else you want me to do.   I’m trying my best to fit in – and it seems like nothing I do is right.   That’s what it felt like when you told me off in front of the whole rugby committee.”

"I did take the entire day off"

Delyth admits that was a step too far, but she did take the entire day off;

"At least with the girls I can be myself"

“At least with the girls I can be myself – I don’t feel under so much pressure to perform,” protests Maya, “I feel like I’m up on stage all the time, being judged.

"I can't talk to you in your language"

“I can’t talk to you in your language – that’s the whole point.   I can’t talk properly to you in Welsh, so you have to speak to me in English – which isn’t working for you either.”

Delyth is unable to persuade her otherwise

Delyth cannot make her think otherwise;

Maya storms out of the flat

Maya picks up her keys and storms out of the flat.
