"Can we talk now, Dani?"

Dani rushes downstairs, rather flustered and calls to Seren that they are going to be late;  Jinx is there, waiting for her, and wonders if they can talk now.   

"I'm babysitting Ifan and I'm late!"

“I’m babysitting Ifan and I’m late,” she replies.

"You've ignored me for days"

“Dani, you’ve ignored me for days – I just want to discuss it sensibly,” he pleads, and she demands what he wants to discuss.   “The house, of course – I don’t want you to think I’m selfish.   Come on, hand on heart, would you turn an opportunity like this down?”

"It's nothing to do with me"

“You’ve made your decision – it’s nothing to do with me,” she argues, but he does not want this to come between them.   Then she again shouts to Seren, as she has to go now.

"I ordered a latté"

In the deli, Mathew brings over a cup of coffee for Anita, and she asks, “Is that a cappuccino?   I ordered a latté.”   

"I'll get you another one"

He will take it away and replace it, 

"I might as well have it now you've made it"

but she stops him and might as well have it now he has made it.

"You've got too much on your plate"

“You’ve got too much on your plate, Mathew, running APD and this place,” she tells him;  

"Coffee is coffee, isn't it?"

he cannot really understand the difference, maintaining that coffee is coffee.

The babysitters have arrived

Dani and Seren arrive at Llwyncelyn and Kelly welcomes them, advising that Ifan is still in his pyjamas and will not get dressed.   “Ifan, come on – Dani and Seren are here!” she yells upstairs.   Seren goes up to assist him.

“Thanks for offering to babysit – Dai and Diane arranged to see friends at the last minute,” says Kelly;  Dani is glad that it will be company for Seren.

"She's the only thing that's not stressing me out"

“She’s the only thing that’s not stressing me out at the moment.   Gwern is OK, but I’m afraid to tell him about the house.”   

"House?   What house?"

Kelly has not heard about the house, 

"Jinx has inherited Gwyneth's house"

so it is explained that Jinx has inherited Gwyneth’s house. 

"She left her house to Jinx?"

This comes as rather a shock;  “Gwyneth has left her house to Jinx?”   

"She can't have changed her will"

Dani says that she did not change her will after having Gwern.   Kelly is astonished at this and offers Dani a cup of tea;  

"Griffiths can wait five minutes"

“Griffiths can wait five minutes,” she decides.

Jinx's 'paddle' has come adrift

As Jason get out of the van outside APD, Jinx comes running across, explaining, “A nut has come off the pizza paddle and I can’t find it.   I almost burned my hand, trying to rescue one of those pizzas.”   

He hands the bolt to Jason . . .

He hands the matching bolt to Jason, 

. . . who has other things on his mind

who appears to have other things on his mind.

Jinx is given a box of (presumably 200) nuts

Then he is quickly presented with a box of the necessary size nuts, but only really wanted one.   

"Do you want anything else?"

“Did you want anything else?” Jason asks, rather gruffly;  he is asked if he can give Jinx a quote some time.

"It's for Gwyneth's house . . ."

“It’s not for Cysgod y Glyn,” he continues, “It’s for Gwyneth’s house – 

" . . . she's left the house to me!"

“she left the house to me!   I had no idea – there are one or two jobs that need doing if you’re free.”

"And you didn't know about it?"

Jason cannot believe this;  “You didn’t know that you were going to inherit it?”   Jinx confesses that he did not even know that there was a will.   

"I'd bite their hand off!"

“If anyone offered me a house for free, I’d bite their hand off!” Jason exclaims.

"That must be a shock!"

Kelly has made two cups of tea (mugs available from ebay) as the children are loudly singing upstairs;   “Wow, that must be a shock!” she says, 

"We're talking about Gwyneth, mind"

but Dani points out that they are talking about Gwyneth.   “You can’t argue with the law, can you?” Kelly observes.

"His mother forgot she had a son"

“But what is important now is Gwern – and the fact his mother forgot she had a son,” Dani goes on.   Kelly comments that no-one thinks they are going to die that young, but it is doubtful that Gwern will also think that way.

"Especially with you and Jinx . . . you know"

“It must be difficult for him, especially with you and Jinx . . . you know,” Kelly adds, but it is emphasised that Gwern comes first.   

"She's dead and still causing havoc!"

“You’ve got to hand it to Gwyneth, mind – she’s dead and still causing havoc!”

Seren needs some assistance

Seren comes downstairs and asks, “Kelly?” so she will go up and sort Ifan out.

"Why do some people get all the luck?"

Jason is ranting at Anita, “Why do some people get all the luck?   

"A house, on a plate!"

“Why don’t they even have to lift a finger and it lands in their lap?   A house, on a plate!”   She appreciates that it is difficult and not fair for someone in his position;  

"Don't let it get to you, Jason"

she advises him not to let it get to him.

"You landed on your feet with Griffiths!"

“That’s easy for you to say, Anita – you landed on your feet with Griffiths!” he continues, but she angrily warns him not to turn on her.   She agrees that it is not fair, but there is nothing he can do.

Mathew is talking to a customer

comes in, speaking on the phone and then informs Anita, “The shed job for that Williams guy in Llanarthur – put it in the book.   The end of next week, as long as we finished the sun room at Dedwyddfa. [SW of Fishguard, on the road to St David’s]

"Dewi Hutchins was not happy"

Anita tells Mathew that Dewi Hutchins was not happy with him for turning up late to the site this morning;  “I think you should stop helping at the deli.   DJ wouldn’t want your business to suffer because you’re helping him.”

"He's always complaining about something . . ."

Mathew reminds her, “Dewi Hutchins is always complaining about something – and he always comes back.   

". . . he likes to hear his own voice"

“Ignore him – he likes to hear his own voice.”

However, Anita will not give up, but insists that he has helped DJ for long enough;   

"I'm not going to break my word"

Mathew makes it clear that he is not going to break his word – he will go over there earlier tonight, so that DJ can go to the hospital.   She says that it is possible to do too much.

Jason continues bewailing his lot

Jason is still complaining as he sits at the bar in the Deri, 

Geraint is working again today

where Geraint is on duty today;  “You’d think that Gwern would get the house automatically,” 

"The law is the law, isn't it?"

but Mark replies that the law is the law.   “It’s not right – that’s all I’m saying,” Jason goes on, and Mark wonders why he is so worried about it.

"The least he should get is the house"

“The boy has been through so much – the least he should get is that house.   I’m just saying how unfair it is,” he grumbles, “The same people get everything – and others are left with nothing.”

"Jinx is not someone who has everything"

Mark has never thought of Jinx as someone who has everything, but Jason will not let it go;  

"A big house without paying a penny"

“That’s where you’re wrong – he’ll have a big house to himself without paying a penny – while whole families have to live like sardines!”

Mark has heard quite enough of this, picks up his last crisp and leaves the pub;  

"Is my company that bad?"

“Is my company that bad?” Jason groans.

Mark is back at number 7

When Mark arrives back at number 7, he is told that Jinx called;  

"Jinx is going to keep the house"

“He’s going to keep the house.”   Mark already knew that, 

"Jason's been blowing a gasket in the Deri"

as he has been listening to Jason, blowing a gasket in the Deri about how unfair life is.

Dani makes up her mind that if people know, she had better tell Gwern;  

"I'm really not looking forward to it!"

“I don’t want him to hear it from someone else – and I’m really not looking forward to it!”   

"We'll tell him together – if that's all right with you"

Mark volunteers to help – they will tell him together – if that is all right with Dani.

"I'm sorry for being angry last week"

“I’m sorry for being angry last week,” she apologises and he concedes that she was right – 

"I shouldn't have interfered"

he is not Gwern’s father and should not have interfered.   

"We wouldn't be in this pickle if you were his father"

“Well, I wouldn’t be in this pickle, if you were his father, Mark,” she sighs, “Have you had enough of us?”

"I love having you here"

On the contrary, he loves having them there, and she owns the house, not him.   She points out that he has tenant’s rights, 

"A herd of wild animals like us"

“And what tenant wants to share a house with a herd of wild animals like us?”   He concedes that he may be odd like that, but of course they can stay.

Jason takes the invoice to Deri Fawr

Jason goes to visit Deri Fawr on the pretext of delivering the invoice;  “Haven’t you heard of e-mail?” Howard asks, 

"There's no excuse not to pay"

but Jason replies that this way they know he has received it – and there is no excuse not to pay.

"Don't you want to check it?"

“Don’t you want to check it, that everything is as it should be?” Jason asks, 

"No – I trust you"

but Howard trusts him.   It is suggested that Howard could put the kettle on 

"We could go through it together"

and they will go through the invoice together.

They both await . . .

Both Dani 

. . . Gwern's return

and Mark are deep in thought as they wait for Gwern to come home.   

He is told to sit down

The door opens and he is about to head straight upstairs, but he is called back.   “Can you sit down for a minute, please?” says Dani.   He wants to know what is wrong and what he has done.

"We want to talk to you about something"

Mark takes over, “We just want to talk to you about something.”

"About your mother's house . . ."

Dani continues, “About the house – your mother’s house . . .” but then she hesitates, so Mark takes the reins again.

"Their property passes down to their nearest relative"

“Look, usually when someone dies, their property passes down to their closest relative.”   

"Yeah – me!"

Gwern knows that, and it means him.

"Unless the person leaves it to someone else"

“Yes, that’s what usually happens – unless the person made a will which leaves their property to someone else.”   

Dani is looking very anxious.

"Who's getting it?"

Gwern shouts, “Who?   Who’s getting it?” 

"Jinx"

and Dani rather reluctantly informs him that it is Jinx.   

"Why is Jinx getting it?"

“Why is Jinx getting it?” he demands.

"It goes back to long before you were born"

Mark explains that it all goes back long before he was born and the trouble is once a will has been written, that is it.   “It stands, unless you change it legally.”

Of course, Gwern wants to know why his mother did not do that 

"Perhaps she forgot"

and Dani suggest that perhaps she forgot.   Mark confirms that she was not very organised, 

"Jinx!"

and it is emphasised that it is not Jinx’s fault because he knew nothing about it.

He rushes upstairs

Gwern furiously storms off upstairs 

"We'd better give him some time to calm down"

and Mark advises that they ought to give him some time to calm down.   

It sounds as if he is throwing stuff around

A lot of loud bangs can be heard from upstairs.

"And that makes £567.23"

They have been through the invoice;  Jason summarises, “And that makes £567.23.”   

Howard says he disputes that . . . 

Howard says that he is disputing the 23p, 

. . . but is pulling Jason's leg

revealing that he is only pulling Jason’s leg.

"You you want to tell me why you're really here?"

Then he demands, “Do you want to tell me why you’re really here?   Like I said, you could have sent an e-mail or put it in an envelope.   You want to know more about the dogs, don’t you?”

"How can you be sure I would make money?"

Jason puts his cards on the table;  “Before we start, I want you to know I’m not interested in going to watch dogs fight, all right?   How can you be so sure I would make money?”

"Because you would have inside knowledge"

Howard enlightens him, “Because you would have inside knowledge.”   

Jason thought that he had turned his back on that now, but is told, “I still have contacts and I know which fights are rigged.”

"And what are you getting out of this"

“Right – and what are you getting out of this?” Jason wants to know, “Why are you helping me?”   

"I'm sure we can reach an understanding"

Howard is sure that they can reach some sort of understanding, adding that he has heard that something is happening near Pencader this Thursday, and he could check whether Jason can get in.

A girl has selected two bottles of wine

In the deli, a young girl brings two bottles of wine to the counter 

"That's £19, please"

and while Mathew puts them through the till, at a total cost of £19, Kelly is selecting a bottle 

"Which is the nicest – Merlot or Malbec?"

and asks, “Math, which one do you think is the nicest – Merlot or Malbec?”   He has no idea and has to look up the prices on his list;  

"Merlot – £12"

he finds that Merlot is £12, which she considers a bit steep, and thinks perhaps the Malbec is a safer choice.

However, when he tells that it is £14.98, 

"You what?"

she exclaims, “You what?”   

The girl meets Anita in the doorway

The girl pays contactlessly for her two bottles, and as she is leaving the shop Anita comes in;  

"Did you ask for her ID?"

she mentions to Mathew, “Did you ask for her ID?   You just sold her wine – and she didn’t look 18 to me.”

"Didn't she?"

He had failed to notice, 

"Uh-oh!"

and Kelly thinks that he may have slipped up;  sure enough, 

Mathew has been caught . . .

this is confirmed when the girl comes back into the shop, accompanied by a police officer, 

. . . and feels very uncomfortable

and he is feeling very uncomfortable.

Dani has a casualty of Gwern's anger

Danny comes downstairs in number 7, and we can hear that there is loud music playing upstairs.   She is carrying a somewhat battered appliance (possibly an Xbox), which appears to have been on the receiving end of Gwern’s anger.

"He's not going to accept it immediately"

Mark realises, “He’s not going to accept it immediately,” and Dani comments that it was one of his favourite things.   Mark describes it as, “Venting – it’s better than venting at you, isn’t it?   Look – he will come to understand.”

"Understand that his mother didn't give a damn about him?"

“Understand what?” demands Dani, “That his mother didn’t give a damn about him?   

"She gave the house to someone who wasn't her son?"

“That she gave the only thing of value that she had to someone who wasn’t her son?”

"Not surprising he's disappointed"

Mark is not surprised that he is disappointed and Dani fears, “Disappointment can make you hard – 

"I don't want him to und up like her"

“I don’t want him to end up like her.”   

Mark is quite sure that will not happen;  “You’re making perfectly sure of that, Dani.   

"You do your best for him every day"

“You do your best for him every day.”   They do not think there is much chance of repairing the damaged item, and Mark suggests that they could have a posh bottle of lager from the Deri.

"I want to talk to Jinx anyway"

“And a cake,” she adds, “I’ll go – I want to talk to Jinx anyway – it’s about time I faced things.”

"Sorry I'm late, Kelly"

Jason is back at Llwyncelyn and apologises for being late, explaining that the job in Cwrtmynach overran.   

"Did you know Jinx has been given Gwyneth's house?"

He takes his meal from the oven and asks, “Did you know that Jinx has been given Gwyneth’s house?” 

"I found out today"

and she replies that she found out today.

“He’s asked me to take a look at it – a few jobs need doing,” he continues.   

"No deposit, no mortgage, just a house!"

She is also of the opinion that it is not fair – no deposit, no mortgage, just a house for himself.

"We'll get a house one day, Kelly"

Jason tries to assure her that they will get a house one day;  “I know, but it will need to be big enough for our Zimmer frames, stairlift, commodes,” she jokes.   He urges her to have patience.

"You didn't get a tidy answer from me this morning"

Dani goes to Cysgod y Glyn to see Jinx;  she asks if he is alone;  “Listen, you didn’t get a tidy answer from me this morning,” she says, 

"I shouldn't have hassled you"

but he apologises for hassling her.

"I just didn't know what to say"

“I just didn’t know what to say,” she goes on.   

"I don't want this to change things"

Jinx does not want this to change things;  

"You know this has to change things"

she answers, “You know this has to change things.”

"I need to explain"

He needs to explain why he accepted the house, 

"It puts me in an impossible position

but she insists, “There’s no need, because I understand, but it just puts me in an impossible position.   People won’t blame you.” 

"But you blame me, Dani"

He can see that she blames him, and she maintains that she has to be there for Gwern.   

"You want us to stop?"

“You want us to stop?” he asks, 

"I have to be there for Gwern"

and she simply repeats that she has to be there for Gwern.
