Dylan is keeping watch

Dani is clearing up after breakfast while Dylan peers out through the blind;  

Seren goes to clean her room

she tells Seren to clean her room as Esther will be there any minute, and she immediately obeys.   “Do you know what?   Gabriel’s got a check-up – I forgot,” she gasps.

"I'll take him"

Dylan volunteers to take him, but she is very reluctant;  “I insist – leave it to me,” he tells her, 

Dani is hesitant about that

and she does not look happy about the situation.   Then Gaynor walks in, having brought Esther, who has gone straight into Seren’s room to play.

"We've forgotten Esther's pyjamas"

“She’s been so excited about this sleepover,” says Gaynor, “But we’ve forgotten her pyjamas – can she borrow Seren’s?”   

"Sleepover?   What sleepover?"

Dani was not aware that this visit involved a sleepover, but remarks that the place is a madhouse already, so another one will not make any difference.

"Do you want a bit of adult chat?"

“Do you want a coffee?   A bit of adult chat before the carnage starts?” Dani wonders, 

"I have a lot of cleaning to do"

but Gaynor replies that she has a lot of cleaning to do.   Then she is asked what her plans are for tonight, and is rather evasive, 

"A romantic night in with Hywel, is it?"

so Dani assumes, “A romantic night in with Hywel?” and Gaynor leaves as quickly as possible.

As Ffion walks along the street . . .

Ffion is walking towards the shop when she notices Cai come out, carrying a bottle;  “Celebrating?” she asks, 

. . . she encounters Cai . . .

and he replies that it is a present for a friend, 

. . . who cannot keep his eyes off Gaynor

as we can see Gaynor walking away from the Deri.

"I want to talk to you"

Ffion adds, “I want to talk to you – it’s not something I can discuss here, but it can’t wait, either.   I’m late taking Arwen to swimming lessons – can you come over later?”

Gaynor is now at the cash machine

As he intently watches Gaynor at the cash machine, he tells Ffion that he is free tonight, 

"Looking forward to it"

and is looking forward to their meeting.   

"I'm going to get lucky tonight"

He appears to be planning to spend time with both of them tonight.

"No-one will come close to you"

As Dylan comes out of the Deri with the pram, he is assuring Gabriel, “No-one will come close to you – you’re safe with Dadi.”   Then he is aware of DI Fielding approaching, 

The DI wants to question him

and she would like to question him further as part of the investigation.   “Sorry, I’m in a rush,” he tells her, but she prevents him from going any further.

"Did you find something on her forehead?"

“Just one specific question – did you find something on her forehead when you found her?   Forensics have found a sticky substance on her forehead, perhaps a clear adhesive.   It’s possible that something was stuck on her forehead – paper – a photograph?”   

"I must go or we'll be late"

Dylan irritably insists that he has no knowledge of what she is talking about, and he has to go or he will be late.   

The DI's suspicions are atroused

The DI looks suspiciously at him as he goes.

Kath continues with her exercises

At Maes-y-Deri, Kath is doing her exercises, and Andrea congratulates her, 

"You've pushed yourself today!"

“Well done – you’ve pushed yourself today!”   

"I'm not afraid of hard work, you know"

Kath says that she is not afraid of hard work, and Andrea reveals that she has some home-made brownies in her bag.

“You’ll make someone a good wife,” Kath comments, 

"Our Mark's a dab hand in the kitchen"

“Our Mark’s a dab hand in the kitchen – he can make Bolognese, curries and a fry up.”   Andrea says she is meeting him in the Deri for lunch.   Then Andrea’s phone sounds, 

Andrea quickly grabs her phone

and she very quickly picks it up, dismissing it as no-one important, which Kath finds somewhat strange.

Cai arrives at Llwyncelyn and compliments Gaynor on her appearance;  

"All day and all night to ourselves"

“It’s not often we get all day and all night to ourselves,” she tells him, 

"I can't wait, Gaynor . . ."

and he replies that he cannot wait.

". . . but I have to pop out before dinner"

“Listen, I’ll have to pop out before dinner, unfortunately – I’ve promised to take cash to a mechanic in Swansea.   He wants it before he goes on holiday tomorrow – but I’ll only be an hour or so.   

"It will give you time to get your breath back"

“It will give you time to get your breath back before I come back.”   She wonders what they will be doing, 

"I'm sure we'll think of something!"

and he promises, “I’m sure we’ll think of something!”   She giggles childishly.

He has hidden his post-it note under the TV

Dylan reaches underneath the television and retrieves from its hiding place the post-it note which was on Jaclyn’s forehead;  he again looks at the message, ‘Welcome back,’ 

He is on his way somewhere

and is intending to go somewhere, but the DI and Tesni come into the room.

“I wake up sometimes thinking she’s still here,” says Tesni, and the DI appreciates that it is a difficult time for her and the family.   “What we need now are answers – 

"Have you discovered anything yet?"

“have you discovered anything?” Tesni demands.   

She is told that there have been some developments;  

"As I told you, we need more details"

“As I told you earlier, Mr Ellis, we need more details about the exact circumstances when you found the body.”   

"You should leave us, Tes"

Dylan considers it a good idea that Tesni should leave them at this point, as there are some things that she should not hear.

"I want to know everything"

However, Tesni is adamant that she wants to know everything;  “I’m trying to protect you,” he says, 

"That's what your mother would want"

“That’s what your mother would want – please!”

She does as he asks, and he tells the DI that he does not want her to suffer any more.   “Right, we know that the killer stuck something to Jaclyn’s forehead either before or after she was killed.   

The DI asks the same question again

“Do you remember seeing something on your sister’s forehead?”   

Dylan does not reply

Dylan remains silent.

In the Deri, Andrea reports to Mark that his mother is getting on well with the exercises;  

"She lifts the remote to switch programmes"

he says he does not know how much she does when she is on her own.   “She lifts the remote to switch from one programme to another,” he jokes.   

The phone call disturbs Andrea

Her phone sounds again, and she looks disturbed to see who is calling, but will not answer it.

"Careful, these plates are hot"

Eifion is on duty and brings over their meal, warning that the plates are hot, 

So hot that he drops one of them . . .

then promptly drops one of them as it is so hot, 

. . . right on Andrea's handbag . . .

and covers her bag with the food.   

. . . which will take a bit of cleaning up

“Eifion, you idiot!” yells Mark, and Andrea demands how he can be so stupid.

Another new barman is not impressed

There is another barman on duty, who also looks very perturbed by Eifion’s clumsiness.   

"Cai won't be the only one punching you!"

Mark tells him to be more careful, “Or Cai won’t be the only one punching you!   Leave it – you’ve made enough mess as it is!”

The note is out of sight . . .

As he holds the post-it note behind his back, 

. . . as Dylan again denies any knowledge of it

Dylan growls, “How many times do I have to tell you?   There was nothing on her forehead.”   

"Perhaps you picked it up without thinking"

The DI continues her conjecture that the paper, if that is what it was, could have fallen off and he might have picked it up without thinking.

"I know what you're doing!"

Dylan replies, “I know what you’re doing – but I’m not going to confess to something that didn’t happen!   There is a murderer out there – you should be out in the community looking for him.”

She points out that they would have a better chance of catching the murderer if they had more evidence – 

"It could lead to your sister's killer"

and this is a key piece of evidence that could lead to his sister’s killer.   

"There was nothing on her forehead"

Once again he stresses that there was nothing on her forehead, so the DI concludes that the killer must have it.

"But why remove it afterwards?"

“But why stick it on to her forehead just to remove it afterwards?” she wonders, and Dylan, who is becoming angry, suggests that perhaps he changed his mind.

“To be honest, Mr Ellis, it is fortunate that you do not have it – 

"It could put your family in a dangerous situation"

“it could put your family in a dangerous situation.”   Dylan questions whether somebody is targeting them, and is told, “Like I said, this is a key piece of evidence – the killer will want to find it and destroy it as soon as possible, as well as anyone who stands in his or her way.”

This definitely worries Dylan

As she leaves the flat, Dylan is clearly rattled, and when Gabriel cries, he looks at the post-it note 

"Dani – come home!"

and leaves a voice message;  “Dani, you’ve had enough time in the park now – come home.”   

"Tes, just come home – you're in danger, OK?"

Then he sends another message, “Tes, just come home – you’re in danger, OK?”

"Shut up!"

Gabriel’s cries grow louder, he screams, “Shut up!” at the top of his voice.

Andrea's phone sounds . . .

Eifion is mopping the floor in the Deri when Andrea’s phone sounds and Mark picks it up;  

. . . Alexander is calling

it indicates that ‘Alexander’ is calling, so he answers it.

“This is Andrea’s phone – she’s just gone to the loo – 

"I'm Mark Jones, her friend"

“I’m Mark Jones, her friend.   Who am I talking to?   Oh, right – I can ask her to phone you back.”

"What do you think you're doing?"

Just then Andrea returns, having cleaned up her bag, grabs the phone and demands, “What do you think you’re doing?   

"What right do you have to touch my phone?"

“What right do you have to touch my phone?   Who were you talking to?”   

"Your brother's been trying to get hold of you"

Mark replies that it was her brother, Alexander, who has been trying to get hold of her for days – something to do with her mother.

“I can’t believe you answered my phone!” she rages, and Mark says that he sounded worried, and advises her to ring him back.   

"Keep your nose out of my business!"

“Keep your nose out of my business!” Andrea snarls, and with that she storms off out of the pub, 

Mark is stunned by this outburst . . .

leaving Mark bemused.   

. . . as is Eifion

He and Eifion look at each other, puzzled.

Dylan is very concerned

Dylan stands, holding the baby monitor, and looking very worried, when Seren and Esther come in with Dani.   

They are back from the park

He urges them to be quiet, as he has just managed to get Gabriel back to sleep.   The girls go to Seren’s room to choose a film.

"I'm worried about you, Dan"

“What’s wrong with you?” Dani asks, and he says that he is worried about her.   

"Where have you been, Tes?"

Then Tesni comes back after her walk, and Dylan demands where she has been, why she did not answer her phone and whether she was on her own.   Dani thinks it politic to go and sort out the bunk beds.

"Don't go anywhere!"

Don’t go anywhere unless you tell me where you’re going and who with,” Dylan orders, “You don’t understand how dangerous it is to be out by yourself!”   

"You sent me out, remember?"

Tesni reminds him that he sent her out;  

"Now I'm insisting I come with you!"

“And now I’m insisting that I come with you,” he goes on, but she is adamant that she does not need a babysitter.

He maintains she needs someone to look after her;  “In case the psycho who killed Mam comes after me?” she sneers.   

"The killer could target any one of us!"

He informs her what the detective said, that the killer could target any of them, including the children, and none of them are safe.

"Staying at home didn't help Mam!"

“Staying at home won’t help – it didn’t help Mam!” she points out, 

"Someone out there wants to hurt our family!"

but he insists that there is someone out there who wants to hurt their family.   They targeted her mother deliberately, 

Tesni will not take any notice of him

but she does not believe what he says and walks out of the room.

Cai swaggers downstairs

Cai comes downstairs at Y Felin, full of confidence, and Siôn informs him that he has been cleaning all day;  

"I've put away your clothes and dirty dishes"

“I’ve put away your clothes and dirty dishes.”   

"Nesta always cleaned up after me"

Cai replies that Nesta always cleaned up after him, but promises to try harder with everything from now on.

He would love to stay for dinner, but Ffion is insisting that he goes over to her flat;  

"She can't wait to get hold of me!"

“Can’t wait to get hold of me, you see!   Come on, Siôn, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of fun, is there?”

Siôn says that it is none of his business, but if Cai wants a relationship with Ffion, he needs to change.   

"People will think you're a homophobic yob"

“You can’t go round saying things about gay people, insulting women, and punching people in the pub.   People will think you’re a homophobic yob who hates women!”

"I don't hate them – precisely the opposite"

Cai insists that he does not hate women – in fact precisely the opposite, 

"You need to start acting like a deputy head"

and is reminded, “You’re going to be a deputy head before long – you need to start acting like one.”

"Pleasing the headmistress!"

“Well, as the new deputy head, do you know what one of my duties is?” Cai asks, “Pleasing the headmistress!”

Five women have put their names down

Tegwen is pleased to see that five women have put their names down, so Mathew comments that she has enough for five-a-side;  She explains that it is known as Rugby X.

“I wouldn’t want to come face to face with Andrea on the rugby pitch – 

"She's got  temper on her!"

“she’s got a temper on her!” comments Eifion, but Tegwen says that he has not been in a scrum with the Pontyberem women.   Sioned comes in and Mathew offers her a drink, but she says that she is waiting for someone.

"You've found a good one there"

Eifion confides to Mathew, “You’ve found a good one there – you were lucky to get her,” so Mathew does not want him to embarrass them with stories from the Royal Welsh.

"Will you be putting your name down?"

He goes across to Sioned, asking if she will be putting her name down;  

"For the Tegwen Morris appreciation society?"

“For the Tegwen Morris appreciation society?” Sioned groans, “No thanks!”   Mathew stresses that she is young and fit, but Sioned points out that she has a life.   She is told that her mother has put her name down for the rugby, 

"That's another reason to stay away"

and Sioned regards that as another reason to stay away.

“I’m just fed up with people hassling me about this rugby!” she snarls, “Just leave it, will you?”   

"Why haven't you put your name down, Sioned?"

Of course Eifion has to call across to her to ask why she has not put her name down, 

"I've got better things to do – all right?"

and she shouts, “Because I’ve got better things to do – all right?”

“Like waiting for friends who never turn up,” Eifion taunts her.   He is told to shut up.

"You've got matching pyjamas"

Esther points out that Seren and her mother have matching pyjamas and is informed that the pyjamas she is wearing are Seren’s favourites;  

"Seren must really like you"

“She must really like you if she lets you wear them.”   

"Why is your Mam so nice?"

Then Esther asks, “Why is your Mam so nice?”

"Because she loves me"

“Because she loves me,” Seren replies, and Esther looks concerned.

Gaynor is waiting eagerly

Meanwhile, at Llwyncelyn, Gaynor is prepared for the evening’s action, and leaves a message for Cai;  “It’s me again – where are you?   

"Hurry up, or this champagne will be flat"

“Hurry up, or this champagne will be flat.”   She tosses down the phone and has another drink.

Cai is at Cysgod y Glyn 

Cai of course is at Cysgod y Glyn, where he is being reprimanded by Ffion;  

"You've created a load of trouble for yourself"

“You’ve created a load of trouble for yourself – I’ve received complaints from parents and governors.”

"Sorry, Miss"

“Sorry, Miss,” he replies with a grin.   She makes it quite clear that she does not care what opinions he holds, 

"You can't punch someone because they're gay!"

but as a teacher he cannot punch someone because they are gay.   He maintains that the business with Eifion is sorted;  

"He accepted my apology"

“He accepted my apology.”   

"What do you want – a medal?"

Ffion demands, “What do you want – a medal?   How am I supposed to protect the pupils – and the school’s reputation – 

"When my deputy acts like a thug?"

“when my deputy acts like a thug?”

"You're so sexy when you're angry"

“You’re so sexy when you’re angry,” he says, and she warns him not to dare, which he concludes is to have a go at him for sleeping with Gaynor.   

"That was years ago"

“That was years ago!” she answers, and then adds, “You’re not, are you?   You and Gaynor?   

"Sleeping with her – and trying your luck with me?"

“Sleeping with her – and then trying your luck with me?”

"It started off a a bit of fun . . ."

He was under the impression that she knew, alleging that it started off as a bit of fun and then . . .   

"I don't need to know the details!"

Ffion stops him there;  “I don’t need to know the details, thanks!   I’m not interested in your personal life – and I definitely don’t want to be a part of it any more!”

"You brought me over here to give me a telling off?"

“So you brought me over here just to give me a telling off?” he complains.   His phone bleeps, and Ffion suspects that it is Gaynor.

"It would be easy for us to reappoint"

“It’s about time that you started acting like a deputy – you’ve only just got the job – it would be easy for us to re-appoint.”   He is angry that he has not started yet and yet she is threatening his job.

"No-one will take you seriously"

“I’m just saying if you don’t change your ways, no-one in that school, staff or pupils, will take you seriously in September!”

He marches out of the flat . . .

“Sorry, Mrs Llywelyn,” he says and walks out of the flat;  

. . . but Arwen will doubtless use what she has just learned

we see that Arwen has been listening carefully to this conversation.
