Tom is using the spade for digging

It comes as a considerable relief that Tom is using the spade to excavate the area which Ffion is indicating;

"Only by doing this will run know the truth"

“Only by doing this, will you find out the truth and move on with your life,” he tells her, while she looks extremely worried at what he is going to find.   (He knows, of course, that any forensic evidence which was originally there has already been compromised by his exhumation and subsequent interment in Gaynor’s garden, via the garden shed.)

"No, carry on"

“Do you want me to stop?” he asks, but she replies that she wants him to continue.

"I've been trying to get hold of you"

Dani is at the Deri, purchasing her drink, when Eleri arrives;  “Kath, you’re still alive!” she remarks, “I’ve been trying to get hold of you –

"I can't waste time chasing you"

I’ve reopened Tomos ac Ellis and I can’t waste time chasing you with the paperwork for this divorce.”

Cassie is keeping a careful watch

Cassie is watching this exchange and Dani has just finished her previous glass and moves on to this fresh one as Kath replies, “I’ll deal with it in my own time.”

"Before Dad changes his mind"

Eleri insists, “The time is now, before Dad changes his mind about giving you this place.”   Kath is confident that he would not do that.   “Do you want to take the risk?   He wants a divorce – I thought you did, too.”

"There's a problem in the kitchen, Kath"

Cassie thinks that now is the time for her to become involved;  she walks across and requests that Kath go to the kitchen, where she maintains there is a problem with an order, so Kath does so.

"Unfortunately!"

Eleri points out, “You cant avoid me forever,” which Kath regards as unfortunate.

"You could talk some sense into Kath"

Cassie enquires, “Is there anything I can do to help?”   Eleri suggests that she could talk some sense into Kath, as she is coming over as a bit desperate and needy now.

"This divorce is nothing to do with me – or you!"

“Well, this divorce is nothing to do with me or you,” Cassie reminds her, but Eleri promises to be back tonight

Eleri flounces out

and will expect everything to be signed.

"We should cancel tonight"

At the brewery, Rhys tells Kelly that they should cancel tonight if no-one is going to turn up.

"You're supposed to make me feel better"

“You’re supposed to make me feel better,” she protests, but he admits that he has been having cold feet about everything.

"It will be loads of work"

“It will be loads of work – we’ll have to think about things like a licence, insurance – everything,” he moans.   Kelly seems to remember him saying that it was a good idea, so he points out that was before he realised how much work it would involve;  “It’s not too late to cancel.”

"Yes, it is Rhys!"

She thinks otherwise;  “Yes, it is!”

Kath dials Brynmor's number . . .

Kath is attempting to contact Brynmor,

. . . but why a Spanish answerphone message?

but all she hears is a recorded message in Spanish, so gives up.

"I can see her declining every day in front of my eyes . . ."

As they sit in the brewery, Kelly explains, “I see her declining in front of my eyes more and more each day – it’s not obvious to lots of people, but to me it’s glaring.

". . . like a fog that glazes in front of her eyes"

“Like a fog that, I don’t know, glazes in front of her eyes – and it’s not there long, but every time it happens, I’m convinced that part of her stays in that fog.

"The spark in her eyes . . ."

“When she was looking through those old photos, the spark was back in her eyes

"Organising this will help that"

“something I haven’t seen for ages – and I want to keep that spark as long as I can!   Organising this will help that – please, Rhys – I can’t do it without you!”

"And I can't refuse, after that sob story"

“And I can’t refuse, after that sob story, can I?” he smiles.

"You're amazing, Rhys"

Kelly describes him as ‘amazing,’ but he emphasises that they have to make sure they have enough people to help – they cannot do everything.

“Fingers crossed for tonight, then – I really appreciate it,” she says.

"I'm not doing fancy dress!"

He goes on to inform her that there are conditions – he is not doing fancy dress.

"You'd make a dashing Batman"

Kelly, on the other hand, thinks that he would make a dashing Batman.

Kath is deep in thought

Cassie comes upstairs to where Kath is deep in thought with her phone;

"Don't take any notice of what Eleri says"

“Look, don’t take any notice of what Eleri says.”   Kath realises that she is going to have to fill in those forms at some point, but is told that is only if she wants to.

"I tried to phone him just now"

“I tried to phone him just now, but it went straight to voicemail.”   She is not sure what she was intending to say, but just wanted to hear his voice.

"Di you leave a message?"

She is asked whether she left a message;  “Saying what?   I don’t know how I’m feeling, Cassie.

"A few weeks ago, I wanted a divorce, but now . . ."

“A few weeks ago, I was adamant I wanted a divorce, but . . .”

Cassie says that no-one is putting pressure on her to sign anything;  “Don’t take any notice of Eleri!

"She wants to get her hands on his money . . ."

“She wants to get rid of you to get her hands on her father’s money.   I don’t know how Brynmor feels, but I do know he thinks the world of you.   He would not like to think of you being under pressure like this –

". . . so you do what's right for you"

so you do what’s right for you and forget about everyone else.”

"Let's have that cup of tea"

Kath decides that now they will have a cup of tea

"See – there's nothing there"

Tom is continuing his excavations and insists, “See – theres nothing there.”

"Try over here"

Ffion is adamant that there must be, wanting him to try a few feet away,

". . . I'm sure there's something there"

as she is sure that something is there.

Mark is under considerable pressure

At Maes-y-Deri, Mark is under pressure with Gabriel screaming upstairs and he is trying to contact Dani by phone;  “OK, I'll be back now,” he promises, fetching a glass of milk from the kitchen.

He gets Gabriel some milk

“Dani, answer the phone, will you?” he shouts down the phone, “Gabriel is screaming for you – come home now, please!”

Still no evidence

Tom has dug up quite a large area by now and Ffion is also sifting through the soil, of course with no success.

"Nothing is here, Ffion"

He comes to the conclusion that nothing is there,

She still wants him to continue

but she wants him to carry on;

"I know what I saw!"

“There must be something somewhere – I know what I saw!”

They work out some competitions

In the Deri the meeting is underway and is quite well attended;  even Madge is there.   Kelly announces that ‘filling a matchbox’ and ‘decorated veg’ will be two of the main competitions.

"I want to make the dress"

Now Anita would like to discuss the carnival queen, “Because I want to make the dress – a girl of six or seven is usually chosen –

"Who have we got"

“who have we got, then?”

"We don't have to decide now"

Kelly points out that they do not have to decide the matter now,

"I want to get started on the dress"

but Anita is anxious to get started on the dress.

"Seren would have been perfect"

Dani, in her usual inebriated state, suggests that Seren would have been perfect and Anita agrees with this.

Dani lunches towards the bar . . .

Dani is sure that whoever is chosen will look lovely, as she staggers unsteadily towards the bar

. . . for a refill

to get another large vodka and orange juice.

"Do you think Greta would like to do it?"

“Do you think Greta would like to do it?” Anita asks

"She would love that!"

and Lleucu imagines that she would love it – she will speak to Iolo about it.   Anita says that she has some fantastic ideas for the dress – something with a lot of frills and sparkles, also wondering if they need a tiara.

Lleucu looks across at Dani

Lleucu is looking across rather guiltily at Dani, while Rhys enquires whether they need to be discussing competitions and tiaras;  “We don’t know yet how we’ll pay for this.”

Tom is exhausted by now

Tom is still working and tells Ffion, “Look, I can keep going,

"I don't think there's much point"

“but I dont think there’s much point.”

Ffion does not want to give up

Ffion frantically claws at the earth, screaming that there must be something there;

"I know what I remember!"

“I know what I remember!   The memory is so vivid because this is exactly where I was – and there was hair!”

"There's nothing here, all right?" — not since he moved the body

“There’s nothing here, all right?   There’s nothing,” Tom assures her

"Is it all in my imagination?"

and she wonders whether Jinx was right, that it was all in her imagination.

“I’m never going to find out what happened to me, am I?’ she wails.

"Come on – I'll take you home"

He tries to comfort her and says that he will take her home.

"We could get a celeb to do the opening"

The meeting in the Deri is still going on, with Lleucu suggesting that they could get a celeb to do the official opening, which would attract people.

"I've got a better idea – Anita can do it!"

Kath is of the opinion that they do not need to attract anyone;  “This is for local people – anyway, I’ve got a better idea – Anita can open it!   Why not?   If it wasn’t for you, Kelly wouldn’t have had the idea.”

Everyone is in favour

Kelly invites a vote on that proposal — everyone is in favour;

"I don't know why to say"

“Goodness me – I don’t know what to say,” gasps Anita.

"We have too talk about money now"

Rhys is adamant that they have to talk about money now,

"We're doing everything ourselves"

but Kath does not think that they would need much as they are doing everything themselves, with Anita sure that everyone can make some bunting and the kids can make posters.

Dani is depressed . . .

Meanwhile Dani is sitting at the bar in a very morose state

. . . and Lleucu appears concerned

and Lleucu is looking concerned about her.

"Floats, first aid, health and safety"

“That’s the point – the community does it all,” stresses Kath, but Rhys asks about the floats, first aid, health and safety.

"We never used to bother with those"

“We never used to bother with those,” says Kath, but is informed that they will have to this time and will need at least £2,000.   Kelly will ask local businesses for contributions, but Rhys has already mentioned that to some and has not had much of a response yet.

"I'll get the money out of them"

“Leave it to me – I’ll get the money out of them,” Kath tells him, “Kelly, put the Deri down for £100.”

"Thank you for helping"

Ffion is now home at Deri Fawr and thanks Tom for bringing her;  “I shall be all right,” she sighs, “And thank you for helping – the fact that you believed me means a lot – even though I imagined it all.   I’m glad I didn’t waste any more of the police’s time.   I’m sure you have more important things to do, too.”

"Doing that was important to you"

He replies that doing that today was important to her and now they know the trauma was behind those ideas.   “Now that you know that, there is no need to be afraid – you can put everything behind you.”

"But what if I can't?"

Ffion says that is what she wants to do;  “But what if I can’t?”

"You will"

Tom seems confident that she will and proposes to put on the kettle.

"I don't know what I would have done without you"

“I don’t know what I would have done without you today,” she continues, rather tearfully.

The meeting comes to an end

The carnival meeting in the Deri has now drawn to its close and Lleucu goes across to where Dani is still drinking at the bar;

"That wasn't easy for you"

“That wasn’t easy for you,” she commiserates.

"It's worked out for Greta, though . . ."

“It’s worked out for Greta, though, hasn’t it?   The queen of the ball!

". . . your family always ends up on top"

“Your family always ends up on top, don’t they?” Dani drawls.   Lleucu points out that Greta is her niece as well –

"I don't think Dad has 'ended up on top'!"

and she does not believe that her father has ‘landed on top’ somehow, stressing that he is in a mental health hospital.

"I want everything to be perfect!"

Anita is excited;  “I want everything to be perfect – it’s so exciting and I’ve got so many ideas for the queen’s dress,” but Kelly comments that there is loads to do before then.   Anita is intent on going to Y Felin tomorrow;  “She’s going to look so . . .”

"Are you rubbing my nose in it?"

This is the final straw for Dani as she jumps up, rather unsteadily, from her seat by the bar, shouting, “Are you rubbing my nose in it?”

"Of course she's not!"

Kelly replies that she is doing no such thing.

"Have you forgotten about your daughter?"

“I thought you would understand – or have you forgotten about your daughter?” Dani snarls at Anita,

Dani marches out

then grabs her bag and walks out.

"I didn't want to upset her!"

Anita apologises to her as she goes, but is told by Kelly to leave it;  “I didn’t want to upset her,” Anita wails and Kelly is well aware of that.

Dani is not very steady on her feet . . .

Dani emerges from the alley, staggering into a trolley used for stacking milk,

. . . and has to walk carefully

and walks gingerly along the back street.   As she nears the corner, the trolley moves

What is that in the alley?

and it can be seen that a hand is protruding from the alley, holding a phone.

The vodka is too much for Dani . . .

Dani throws up on the ground

. . . and the moment is recorded for posterity

and this is captured on a short video on the phone, before she staggers away along the street.

"Do you think the knock has changed me?"

As they drink their cup of tea, Ffion asks, “Do you think the knock I suffered to my head has changed me?   I never used to be such a liability.”

"You're being too hard on yourself . . ."

Tom accuses her of being too hard on herself;  she is still recovering from a serious injury.

". . . you'll get through this"

He puts his arm around her in a comforting gesture, assuring her that she will get through this.

"I'm lucky to have a friend like you"

“I’m lucky to have a friend like you,” she says

That is a bit 'over the top', Ffion

and predictably kisses him, which he seems to find rather offputting.

"I think I'd better go . . ."

He thinks that he had better go so she can rest,

". . . I'll see you soon"

but will see her soon.

Mark rests after his ordeal

Mark is relaxing on the sofa with a cup of tea when the front door opens;

"Is Gabs all right?"

Dani asks if Gabs is all right.   “He’s only just fallen asleep,” Mark replies,

"He's been screaming for his mother all night"

“He’s been screaming for his mother all night!”   Dani says that he can sleep with her tonight, but Mark does not think that is a good idea, as she has been drinking.

“Leave him alone, Dan,” he continues;  when Dani protests that she is his mother, he adds,

"I'm glad be doesn't see you like this!"

“You know what?   I’m glad he’s asleep, so that he doesn’t have to see his mother looking like this.”

Mark goes upstairs

Then he goes straight upstairs.

Who is Ffion phoning this time?

Ffion makes another phone call;

She wants to see a doctor

“Is it possible to make an appointment to see a doctor, please?   I haven’t been feeling well recently.”

Anita heads home

Anita is very keen to go home and Rhys is having a drink at the bar when Eleri arrives.

"There's nothing more tragic . . . "

“There’s nothing more tragic than seeing someone drinking alone,” she remarks.

"Drinking with you would be more tragic!"

She was not expecting the reply, “Drinking with you would be more tragic!” as Rhys walks away.

Cassie wonders what she would like to drink, but Eleri wants to talk to Kath.

"She hasn't signed anything"

“She’s upstairs and she doesn’t want to be disturbed – I’ll save you a journey – she hasn’t signed anything, because she doesn’t want to be rushed.”

"She was the one who wanted a divorce"

Eleri angrily points out that she was the one who wanted the divorce and is informed that she wants more time.

"Right – she has until next week!"

“Right – she has until next week!” is the latest ultimatum,

"Kath has as long as she wants"

but Cassie is adamant that Kath has as long as she wants.

“And if you rush her, she might become more stubborn – your father does not want everything to be sorted –

"You want to get your grubby hands on his money"

“you want to get your grubby hands on his money – we’re not stupid!   The best thing you can do is to leave Kath alone – you don’t want her to rethink things and to go for half of everything, do you?   Are you sure you don’t want a drink?”

"Cheap wine doesn't agree with my stomach"

Eleri snarls,” Cheap wine doesnt agree with my stomach,” and walks out.

"Why weren't you answering your phone?"

Dani is looking very sorry for herself in the kitchen of Maes-y-Deri when Mark comes down;  “I’m sorry,” she sniffs, so he wonders why she was not answering her phone.

"Was he crying for long?"

“Was he crying for long?”

Mark points out that he just wanted his mother, and she whines, “I don't deserve him!”   Mark stresses that she is a good mother, when she does not drink,

"It's only a couple after work"

but she insists, “It’s only a couple after work – it’s not a big deal.”

"Think I haven't noticed the vodka bottles?"

“Do you think I haven’t noticed the vodka bottles coming and going from this kitchen, or what?”

"I'll do a surprise for Gabriel"

She maintains that she is going to do a surprise for Gabriel – go to the cinema or that farm that has the soft play.

Her phone sounds

Her phone sounds

The video of her in the alley

and she finds the video taken in the back street, which makes her feel sick again.

Mark looks at it

Mark picks up the phone and looks at it,

"Who's doing this to me, Mark?"

as she sobs, “Who’s doing this to me, Mark?”
