Gabriel is playing, unconcerned

Gabriel is playing on the floor while Dani urges him, “Please, try to remember where you took it off.”   She is desperately searching for one of his shoes, but he seems remarkably unconcerned.   

"What's going on, Dani?"

Mark comes in and wonders what is going on;  “I can’t find a shoe!” she exclaims.

She has obviously been receiving messages containing the photos taken as she left Hywel’s house as Mark wants to talk to her about them;  

"I can check the CCTV"

“I can check the village CCTV to see who was around,” he says, but with the television blaring, Dani cannot concentrate and is becoming angry with Gabriel.

Kelly has come to speak to Jinx

Kelly visits Deri Fawr to speak to Jinx, but Ffion tells her that he is in the shower and shouts upstairs to inform him.   

"How are you feeling?"

Kelly asks how she is feeling;  “I’m getting better sllowly,” is the reply.

Kelly is busy with this carnival; “That’s why I’m here – I need his help — today.”

"Don't misunderstand me . . ."

Ffion is very pleased to hear this and sighs, “Don’t misunderstand me – 

". . . I'm so grateful to him"

I’m so grateful to him for everything and I don’t know where I’d be without him . . .”

"But?"

Kelly detects that there is a ‘but’ coming – and indeed there is;  “I’m with him all the time, every day.”   Kelly realises that she wants a bit of peace and quiet.

"That would be lovely!"

“That would be lovely!” agrees Ffion.

"Leave it to me"

“Leave it to me,” promises Kelly.

Mark is eating his toast when there is a knock at the door, so he goes to answer it.

Dani has had enough

Meanwhile, Dani still has not found the missing shoe and shouts at Gabriel, “I’ve had enough!”

"I'll make a start to Gaynor's"

Lleucu comes in, prepared for work and, as she can see that Dani is still in her dressing gown, volunteers to start on Gaynor’s house by herself, telling Dani to take her time.

Another message . . .

Then Dani’s phone sounds again 

. . . with a photo

and she discovers a photo of herself leaving number 21.

"I need your help, Jinx"

Jinx comes downstairs and is told by Kelly that she needs him to help her with the carnival.   

"I told Rhys I'm far too busy"

“I’ve told Rhys I’m far too busy to be on the committee,” he protests, but she tells him that he does not have to be – however, she could really do with his artistic flair.

“Will you help me with the plans?   Now?   I have to take the ideas to the committee tonight.   

"Only an hour – two max"

“Only an hour – two, max!”   

Ffion waits anxiously

Ffion waits anxiously for his answer.

He suggests that they could do it there, at Deri Fawr, but Ffion assures him that there is no need;  

"Will you be all right?"

he is anxious that she will be all right in his absence.   

"I shall only be having a nap . . ."

Ffion predicts that she will only be napping on the sofa, anyway, 

". . . I'll phone if I need anything"

and will phone him if she needs anything.

Kelly winks at her

As they leave the house, Kelly winks at Ffion, who breathes a sigh of relief, 

Ffion immediately makes a phone call

 immediately picking up her phone to make a call.

"She can get pretty angry"

As they walk along the High Street, Jinx comments to Kelly that nursing Ffion every day is not easy as she can get pretty angry sometimes;  “With the situation, more than anything.”

"You have to look after yourself as well"

She reminds him that he has to look after himself as well, but he protests that he is fine.  

"It's nice to have someone who needs me"

 “It’s just nice to have someone who needs me.”

"I plenty need you with this carnival"

“Well, do you know what?   I plenty need you with this carnival – it might be time to give Ffion some space, now that she’s getting better – to help us.”   

They go into number 7

They go into number 7.

Sioned brings food to Mathew 

Things are quiet in APD when Sioned comes in with something for Mathew;  

"I was worried about you"

“I was worried about you working on an empty stomach,” she tells him, “And a coffee, as you didn’t get much sleep last night.”

"What was keeping you awake?"

He apologises for waking her up and she wonders what was keeping him awake;  

"Work – Anita"

“Work – Anita,” he replies and she assumes that funeral had some part to play as well, reminding him that it is today.

She continues trying to change his mind

“I was starting to worry that you were regretting your decision not to go,” she continues, 

"No, I'm not regretting it"

but he emphatically denies that he is.   She ploughs on, “Because, if you are regretting it, it’s not too late – I’ve put your suit ready, in case, Mam has taken the children and I’m happy to drive us up there.   I’m not going to put pressure on you – of course not – but if you want to go, we need to leave now, 

"So that we get to Valley on time"

“so that we get to Valley on time.”

Mathew wonders how she even knows where it is taking place and she says that Griffiths contacted his mother.

"How many times do I have to tell him?"

“How many times do I have to tell him to keep his nose out?” Mathew shouts, but Sioned points out that she asked him.   Griffith has not told Mathew’s mother that he is going.

"Stop interfering!"

“Good – because I’m not going!   Stop interfering and guessing what’s going on in my head!   

"I don't want to see her"

“Just listen to what I’m telling you – I don’t want to see her.   I’ve lived for 25 years without them – I don’t want to play happy families!   Please – is that clear?”   

Now he has got through to Sioned 

Now Sioned appears to have got the message.

"It's about Siwsi Davies"

Mark comes in and Mathew wants to ask him about Siwsi Davies, who he understands lives in Maes-y-Deri.   

"Her Mam lives three doors down from us"

“Yes, her Mam lives just three doors down from us – why?” asks Mark.

"We're thinking of giving her a job"

When he is told they are thinking of offering her a job at APD, Mark tells him, “Oh – well, she’ll put you all in your place,” which is exactly what Mathew wants.

Mark wants to look at last week's CCTV

“Listen, as I’ve done you a favour, would you mind if I had a look at your CCTV from last week?   

"Someone is giving Dani a hard time"

“Someone is giving Dani a hard time and I want to see if it’s on camera.”   Mathew is happy to assist

Jinx has drawn up some sketches

Jinx has drawn up some initial sketches for the carnival, suggesting the floats could be sited in front of the Deri.   Kelly likes the look of that, 

"There's no colour there at all!"

but Anita angrily insists, “There’s no colour there at all!   It’s a day for the family –you need plenty of colour, 

"Especially after what happened last time!"

“especially after what happened on the High Street the last time we had a party!”

"Right, Auntie Neet"

Kelly is rather taken aback by this outburst, but says that they will bear it in mind.   

"We want some fun!"

Anita goes on, “Everything is so grey – I don’t want any of that – we want some fun!

"I've finished upstairs, Dani"

As they work at cleaning Gaynor’s house, Lleucu reports that she has finished upstairs and Dani will not be long in the kitchen, 

Dani is after another customer's alcohol

but first gets out a bottle to help herself to a drink.

“I don’t know why Gaynor wants a cleaner – the place is spotless,” she comments, but Lleucu is concerned to see Dani drinking again.

"You seemed a bit stressed"

“Are you OK?   You seemed a bit stressed this morning,” Lleucu enquires 

"Just another morning in the madhouse"

and Dani describes it as just another morning in the madhouse, complaining that Gabriel does not like to listen these days.

"I'm going to the hairdresser now"

Anita announces that she is going to the hairdresser now and will see Kelly at the meeting later;  she is adamant that she does not want Kelly to go with her.   

"I think I can go for a blow dry on my own!"

“I think I can go for a blow dry on my own – I’m not a child!   You concentrate on the planning, 

She is not exactly complimentary

“because the way things are looking, I wouldn’t want to come near anything you organise!”

"Sorry about that, Jinx"

Jinx and Kelly look at each other and she apologises, “You know, she’s just . . . she wants this carnival to be a hit – what can I say?”   

"Is she all right?"

Jinx is concerned that Anita is all right.   

Kelly tries to convince herself that she is;  

"You know, she's got a fair point"

“You know, she’s got a fair point, Jinx – carnivals are supposed to be, like, super colourful, so perhaps, I don’t know, we need to start again.   And I want it to be amazing for her as well – 

"For me – please?"

“please– for me?”

Who could resist the lovely Kelly?

Jinx will find his felt tips in that case.

"Did I tell you I wrote to Dad last week?"

Still at Llwyncelyn, Lleucu says, “Did I tell you that I wrote to dad last week?   I still haven’t had a reply.”   

"Typical Cai – selfish!"

Dani cannot believe that he still will not let Lleucu see him, “But typical Cai – selfish!” she sneers.   

"It's just Gwern"

Then her phone sounds again and she lies that it is just Gwern asking something.

“Do you know how to figure out who is behind a no-caller ID?” she goes on.   

"I heard someone's hassling you"

Lleucu had heard that someone was hassling her 

"They're upped their game"

and Dani reports that they have upped their game – organising dates with people, following her, filming her.

"Howard said its a police matter"

Dani had hoped that Howard could help her, “But he says it’s a police matter, so . . . 

Lleucu does not like the sound of police

“I haven’t contacted them – it’s probably just kids.”   

"That's not very nice for you"

Lleucu appreciates that it is not nice for her, but she says that she has better things to worry about

Ton has brought fish and chips

Tom is back at Deri Fawr once more, telling Ffion, “I can’t bring the beach to you, but I can bring fish and chips – what’s a fish without chips?   

"Sit down – I'll get some plates"

“Sit down – I’ll get some plates.”

Ffion has other ideas

“Come to the police station with me!” Ffion blurts out, 

"I saw hair – attached to a body"

“I finally know what I saw in the soil – hair!   Attached to a body.”

Tom is rattled now

This is very worrying for Tom, 

"They're bound to take me seriously" 

as Ffion continues, “I’ve been phoning and phoning – but DS Thomas hasn’t returned my calls!   They’re bound to take me seriously if I saw a body!”

"Please come with me"

Tom urges her to calm down, but she pleads with him to come with her.   Tom find himself in rather a quandary here.

Ieuan comes into APD

Ieuan comes into APD and is surprised to see Mathew there;  

Didn't you expect to see me here?"

“What’s wrong?   Didn’t you expect to see me here?   Where did you think I would be?   

"Carrying a coffin?"

“Carrying a coffin, in a black suit?”

"It wasn't my idea, Mathew"

Ieuan maintains that it was not his idea 

"How many times do I have to tell you?"

and Mathew snarls at him, “How many times do I have to tell you?”   Ieuan insists that he was only trying to help, but is told, in no uncertain terms, “I don’t need your help – I’ve told you to block Melfa.   Pass me your phone, now.”

"I must have left it at home"

Ieuan pretends that he has left it at home, 

"Well, go and fetch it, then"

so is told to go and fetch it;  “This is a bit dramatic, isn’t it?”   

"It's in your pocket, isn't it?"

Mathew again tells him to go and get it, then realises that it is actually in his pocket.

"Put your passcode in"

“Put your passcode in,” 

"I was only trying to help"

and again is told that Ieuan was only trying to help.   

"You know how I feel about it"

“You know how I feel about it and you should have told Sioned that.”

"It doesn't make you weak, Mathew"

Mathew is handed the phone as he is being told that getting back in touch does not make him weak;  his mother has just lost her father and she might need his help.

"She doesn't deserve my time!"

“She doesn’t deserve my time!   

"Now block her!"

“Now block her!” Mathew orders and Ieuan reluctantly does so.

That is more colourful

Jinx has added some colour to his sketches 

Kelly says they are amazing

and now Kelly describes them as, “Amazing to show to the committee tonight.   It must be nice to do something other than look after Ffion every day.”   

"All right – I will help you more"

He supposes that she is right and agrees to help more with the carnival – as long as Ffion does not get any worse.

"Have you seen Eleri?"

Kelly wonders whether he has seen Eleri since she got back 

"She didn't have anything nice to say about me"

and he groans, “She didn’t have many nice things to say to me yesterday.”

"A village with loads of your exes, like"

“Do you know what?   It must be really difficult to live in a village with loads of your exes, like,” observes Kelly, “Me, Eleri, Ffion, Dani,” 

"Yeah, I've made a mess of things"

and he acknowledges that he has made a mess of things with women over the years.

"I think you've stolen Hywel's and Rhys' crown, like"

“I think you’ve actually stolen Hywel and Rhys Llywelyn’s crown, like,” Kelly maintains, so he thinks that he had better stick to the pizzas and the carnival from now on, 

Kelly admires his artwork

which she regards as a good move, as she sits down to look at his artwork.

"What do you think?"

At APD, Ieuan is surprised to see Anita walking in and she asks what she thinks of her hair, 

"Blow dry – it's lovely"

which he describes as lovely.   

He kisses Anita

Mathew comes in as they are kissing 

"You're here to work!"

and reprimands Ieuan, “You’re here to work!”

"I don't think you should offer her the job . . . "

Anita wants a word with Mathew about that Siwsi;  “I don’t think you should offer her the job – 

". . . I don't need help"

“I don’t need help.”   Mathew reminds her that they have already been through this, but she protests, “You’ve been through this – I haven’t had a chance to say how I feel.”

"You do need help"

He makes it quite clear that she does need help;  

"That doesn't have to be Siwsi, does it?"

“But that doesn’t have to be Siwsi, does it?” demands Anita, “Finding the right person takes time and I think we’re rushing.”

"Siwsi is perfect!"

Mathew is adamant, “Siwsi is perfect – she’s keen, hard-working – she’s fun!   I spoken to her former manager and he only had good things to say.”

"Someone who tried to buy us with cookies?"

“You’re going to trust someone someone who tried to buy us with cookies?” Anita angrily demands.   He assures her that even without the cookies, he would still have offered her the job. 

Mathew announces his decision as final

“Siwsi wants the job and I want her to have it – Mark said earlier that she is happy to put everyone in their place – which is exactly what some of you need!”   

"Please phone her, – now"

Mathew turns to Anita and asks her, “Please phone her – now.”

"Sorry, I can't come tonight"

Outside the deli, Sioned tells Kelly that she is sorry that she will not be able to come tonight as she has not found a babysitter.   Kelly agrees to forgive her if Sioned will be on the list of helpers.

"Will you be there?"

Dani and Lleucu come along the road on their way back from Llwyncelyn and are asked whether they will be at the meeting tonight;  they both say that they will be there and Dani is eager to get to the Deri now, as she needs a gin.

"A difficult day, cleaning toilets"

Lleucu explains to Kelly that it has been a difficult day, cleaning toilets.

Tom's car arrives in the woods

Tom’s car arrives in the woods and Ffion gets out of the passenger seat;  

"Why are we here?"

“Why are we here?” she asks.

"It may help you remember more"

“I know this is difficult, but it may help you to remember more – then we can go to the police with actual evidence,” he replies.   

Ffion is not at all happy

She is not at all happy about this, but he urges her to come with him.

Mathew is back at Penrhewl 

Sioned is preparing the meal when Mathew comes in.   She apologises about earlier;  

"The last thing I wanted to do was upset you"

“The last thing I wanted was to upset you – I just wanted to make sure you had a chance to say goodbye, that’s all, because I know how much of a comfort it was when I lost Dad.”

"My family is much more complicated"

Mathew is aware of that and he is grateful, “But my family is so much more complicated – I don’t need to say goodbye – I don’t know them.   I didn’t even know that Taid was still alive.   I am grateful that so many people in my life care about me – 

"Melfa is not one of those people"

“but Melfa is not one of those people and I don’t want her to be.   When she left, she lost any relationship she had with me.”

"I'm so sorry, Math"

Again, Sioned says how sorry she is, but he assures her that there is no need to be;  

"I've made Ieuan block her"

“I’ve made Ieuan block her, so, with a bit of luck, we never have to discuss her again, all right?   

"You'[re my family now, not her"

“I know it’s early days for you and me, but you’re my family now, not her.”   

He kisses Sioned 

He kisses Sioned.

Dani has a message

In the Deri, Dani looks at her phone;  the message is from Mark, who has just come in through the door.   

"I've been trying to get hold of you . . ."

“Yes, I’ve been trying to get hold of you,” he says, “And now I’ve found you, thanks to Lleucu. 

". . . you were meant to pick Gabriel up"

“You were meant to pick Gabriel up from after-school club.”

"I thought you were doing that"

She says that she was under the impression he was doing that;  “I didn’t have much choice – the school couldn’t get hold of you – he’s at home now with Gwern.”  Mark asks if she has had any more messages and she says that she has not.

Nothing suspicious on the CCTV

He has been to APD and MFC to look at their CCTV, but there was nothing suspicious.   Dani asks for another drink and he is surprised that she is not coming home.

“I can’t – I’ve got this carnival meeting,” she replies;  

"How many have you had?"

he wonders how many she has had.   “Does it matter?” she growls, “I’ve promised Kelly.”

Mark urges her to come home, pointing out that he will cook dinner and demands what he is supposed to tell Gabriel, who is asking after her.   

"Tell him Mami's busy"

“Tell him Mami’s busy – I’m going to the meeting and I’ll see him later,” she answers, so he walks out.

"The police should be doing this"

As they walk through the woodland, Ffion insists that the police should be doing this and that they need forensic officers.   “Trust me, all right?” Tom says, 

"I've left something in the car"

“You go ahead – I’ve left something in the car, OK?”

She returns to the fateful spot . . .

heads, alone, to the spot which keeps returning to her mind, 

. . . while Tom gets out a spade

as he takes a spade from the boot of the car

She again relives the moment . . .

Ffion can see her hand touching what appears to be human hair 

. . . and this time knows what it is

and is becoming very troubled.   

She turns to see Tom approaching 

She turns around to see Tom approaching, carrying the spade from the car boot – in a frightening repeat of what happened on 26 February, on which occasion he was wielding a shovel – 

Is he about to have a second try?

and the episode ends as he walks towards her, carrying the implement.
