Howard is at work in the farmyard

Howard is walking across the farm yard with a wheelbarrow and looking rather pleased with himself;  he meets Sioned who has taken the twins for a walk and reports that they have fallen asleep at last.   

"It's a shame they don't sleep at night"

“It’s a shame they don’t sleep at night.”

"How are Mam-gu's little babies?"

Eileen comes out of the farmhouse and greets the twins, “How are Mam-gu’s little babies?”   Sioned says that they are tired, like their mother and she does not want Eileen to wake them;  

"I think I got two hours' sleep"

she thinks that she got two hours’ sleep.   Her mother warns her that it will be like that for a while.

"Did you want anything?"

Sioned asks, “Did you want anything?” 

"Malcolm wants us to sign the agreement"

and is told that Malcolm has phoned, wanting them to go and sign the sale agreement with Quantum Hydro Works.

Sioned can see that things are moving quickly;  “We can go now, if you’re free,” Eileen suggests, “But we’ll have a cup of tea first to celebrate.”   

"Congratulations"

As she takes the twins into the house, Mathew comes out.   “I heard about the sale agreement – congratulations,” he tells Sioned, 

Sioned does not look very enthralled

but he can see that she is not 100% happy about it.   

"I think this is an excuse for a celebration"

He tells Howard, “I think this is an excuse for a celebration,” but Howard thinks she does not look as if she wants to celebrate.

"She won't want to leave the children"

“She’s tired – she doesn’t get a second to herself.   Let’s organise a night out,” Mathew goes on, but Howard is doubtful that she will want to leave the children. 

"We could invite people over"

“You could be right – let’s invite people over to surprise her,” is Mathew’s next idea, which Howard does not think is a particularly good one, but Mathew maintains that she could do with having some fun.

"I'm not going to say no to a couple of pints"

“OK, then – I’m not going to say no to a couple of pints!” Howard concludes;  Mathew will sort out the guest list and leaves him to deal with the food.

None of the APD staff are there

Siôn comes into APD, where no-one appears to be working;  

"What do you want?"

he finds Iolo, apparently assembling his own order, who asks what he wants.   

"I wamt to apologise"

“I want to apologise,” says his father.

"For lying, or because you were caught?"

“For lying, or because you were caught?” enquires Iolo.   Again, Siôn insists that he is truly sorry, but Iolo angrily points out that he had to hear about it from Eileen.   

"Eileen should not have told you"

Siôn replies that he has had a word with her, as she should not have told Iolo.   “No, you should have done!”

“I’ve said lots of times that I did not want to do it,” Siôn protests, but Iolo reminds him that he agreed.   “You don’t understand what you’re asking me to do,”

"I'm asking you to save someone's life!"

Iolo understands only too well;  “I’m asking you to save somebody’s life!” but now Siôn confesses that he is scared.   Iolo realises that there is nothing else to say and explains that he has work to do.

Ffion is asleep

Ffion is dozing on the sofa when Hywel arrives at Deri Fawr;  “How are you?” he asks, “I let myself in – 

"I'm on the rota today"

“I’m on the rota today – you don’t mind, do you?”   He has brought a potted plant for her, which he explains is from Quantum Hydro Works.

"What have you got to do with them?"

Ffion wonders what he has to do with them and he says that he has just met them with the council;  

"Is this a present to silence me?"

“Is this a present to silence me?” she wonders, “Perhaps you did it for them.   

"You attacked me as revenge!"

“You attacked me as revenge because I oppose the dam!”   She is becoming increasingly upset

Hywel cannot believe it

and he attempts to calm her.

"I don't want you here . . ."

“Am I right?” she snarls, “I don’t want you here!   

". . . please go, Hywel!"

“Please go, Hywel!”   He agrees that he will go and she is left looking at the potted plant.

"We're inviting a few people over"

As Dani and Lleucu are cleaning at Yr Antur, Mathew comes in to inform Dani that they are inviting a few people over, if she is free.   

"Will you be there?"

“Sioned has had some good news – she’s at the solicitors office, signing a pretty big contract.”

Dani enquires if he will be there, and when he says that he will be, she agrees to come;  he will text her with the details 

"It will be fun, Lleucu"

and she says that she is looking forward to it.   When she tells Lleucu that it will be fun, 

"Will Gwern be there?"

she wonders whether Gwern will be there.

Dani finds something . . .

Dani discovers something down the back of a radiator;

a picture drawn by Seren, which brings back so many memories.   “It must have fallen off the wall,” says Dani, 

"Lilies are the same shape as a star"

“She did it at after-school club – I think they are lilies, because she loved them;  I said lilies are the same shape as a star [Seren].”   She is quite overcome with emotion, picking up her coat and bag.

"We'll have a laugh"

Lleucu agrees that she will come tonight and that they will have a laugh.   Dani is going to get some ice to help remove the chewing gum.

Hywel comes in for a pint 

Hywel comes into the Deri, where Tom is drinking at the bar, and orders a pint, 

"No – make it a whisky!"

but then decides to have a whisky instead.   

"Someone's had a tough day!"

“Oh yeah – someone’s had a tough day!” Tom remarks.

"Ffion accused me of attacking her!"

“I’ve just been to see Ffion – she accused me of attacking her – she’s lost the plot completely!” moans Hywel, “I know she’s ill, but you can’t go round, accusing innocent people.”

"Was she OK when you left her?"

Tom asks whether she was OK when he left her and if there was anyone else with her.   

Tom looks concerned

Hywel feels sorry for them if there was anyone and Tom looks concerned.

They seem to be expecting a lot of people

At Penrhewl, the food and drink is piled up on the kitchen table, together with some of the twins’ washing;  Mathew cannot find the ‘tzatziki’.   “What on earth is that?” Howard demands;  he is told that it was at the top of the list – Sioned’s favourite dip.

"I can just about read Welsh"

Howard points out, “I can just about read Welsh – but not any other language!”   

"What's going on?"

Then they hear Sioned’s voice and she is very surprised when she walks into the room, wondering what is going on.   

"A few people are coming over"

She is told that they are organising a surprise for her;  a few people are coming over to celebrate the good news about the contract – they thought she would prefer to stay home.

"I don't want people in the house!"

She protests that she does not want people in the house, 

"The children will be upstairs"

but Mathew assures her that the children will be upstairs and they can check the monitor any time.   

"I appreciate the effort, but . . ."

She appreciates all the effort, but Mathew continues to insist that she deserves to enjoy herself.

"Just a couple of friends and a quiet night"

“Just a couple of friends and a quiet night,” he predicts, “Everything has been organised – all you have to do is be here.”   

"Oh, all right, then"

She is virtually forced to agree.

Iolo rushes across the road

Iolo comes running across the street, shouting to his father, 

"I've been phoning you"

“Where have you been?   I’ve been phoning you.”   Sioned replies that he had a work meeting.   “Look, Alex’s Mam has been in touch – things are deteriorating – 

"I've just been to the hospital"

“I’ve just been to the hospital!”

Siôn is sorry to hear that 

"I know you don't want to do this, but, please . . ."

and Iolo continues, “Listen, Dad, I know you don’t want to do this, but – please!”

Eileen intervenes

Eileen steps in to warn Iolo that he cannot do this, but he continues, “I know you don’t want to have a relationship with her – but just do it for me, yeah?”

"Your father has already said no!"

Eileen emphasises that his father has already said no and that he should accept that.   

"We have a chance to save Alex . . ."

“We couldn’t save Mam and we couldn’t save Tyler – but we have a chance to save Alex here, so, Dad, please!”

"Sorry"

Siôn whispers, “Sorry,” 

Iolo turns sadly away

so Iolo turns away 

"You've done the right thing, Siôn"

as Eileen reassures him that he has done the right thing.

After a few steps, Iolo snarls, “You’re pathetic!   Do you know that?   

"You don't think of anyone but yourself!"

“And you don’t think of anyone but yourself!”   

Siôn puts an arm round Eileen

Siôn puts his arm around Eileen. 

Quite a noisy gathering . . .

The party at Penrhewl has begun and there appear to be a lot more participants than expected, 

. . . which concerns Sioned 

which concerns Sioned.   

"It 'snowballed' a bit"

Mathew explains that it ‘snowballed’ a bit;  he wonders if she would like him to tell people to leave, but she does not want to cause a scene.

A second barrel of Ceffyl Du is brought in

Rhys comes in with another barrel of Ceffyl Du’s finest 

Dani arrives . . .

and then Dani arrives;  

. . . and is given a present . . .

Lleucu has brought her a present.   “I spotted the frame at Apêl Maenan earlier,” 

. . . a frame for that picture

and she has put Seren’s picture inside it.   She thinks that perhaps she should have waited until tomorrow, but Dani says that she loves it, then is eager to get stuck into the alcohol.

Dani is eager to get drinking

“Want some wine?   We need something to get the party started.”  

"It's not much of a party, is it?"

Lleucu does not think that it is much of a party.

Tom is back at Deri Fawr

Tom turns up again at Deri Fawr, this time bringing chow mein, sweet-and-sour chicken and a DVD.   

"I'm not in the mood tonight . . ."

Ffion regrets that she is not in the mood tonight, but he thought that it would be a bit of fun.   

She adds that she has not had a DVD Player since 2010 – and has other things on her mind;  

". . . I accused Hywel of attacking me!"

“I’ve just accused Hywel of attacking me!”   

"I don't understand why I've ended up like this!"

Tom is sure that he will understand.   “Well I don’t!   I don’t understand why I’ve ended up like this!”

The potted plant is knocked off the table

He tells her to sit down, “And as you haven’t had a DVD Player since 2010, why don’t we look on one of those apps?   Have you got Netflix?”   He puts down the bag of food on the table, in the process knocking off the plant brought by Hywel.

"Plants don't last long here"

Ffion tells him not to worry, as plants do not last long in the house, anyway – she manages to kill most of them.   

She picks up the plant . . . 

As she picks up the plant, plus some of the spilled compost, 

. . . and there is something about the feel of the compost

she looks at what is in her hand, which triggers some memories of the night of the attack.

"Are you all right?"

Tom finds her staring at it and asks if she is all right;  “There’s something – 

"I'm scared!"

“I remember something – I’m not sure – the texture of the soil, perhaps.   I’m scared!”

"Your memory is playing tricks on you"

He puts his hands on her shoulders and helps her to her feet, maintaining  that her memory is playing tricks on her.

"It's as if it's just out of reach"

“It’s as if it’s just out of reach,” she panics and he insists that the worst thing she can do is to force herself to remember.   

"Go and wash you hands"

He tells her to go and wash her hands and he will clear up the mess.   

Things are not looking good for Tom — Hallelujah!

Is Tom’s worst nightmare coming true?

Dani is 'well-lubricated' by now . . .

At Penrhewl the volume of the music is increased by Rhys;  Dani gets to her feet with difficulty, as she has apparently been getting stuck into the drink.   “Yeah, Rhys, come on – this is supposed to be a party!” she shouts 

. . . and tries to get Howard to dance

and wants to dance with Howard, but he refuses.

"Turn the music down!"

Mathew comes in and complains about the volume of the music;  “Jac and Lili are asleep – turn the music down!”

"This is supposed to be a party!"

Dani protests, “This is supposed to be a party – first time mums are so touchy!”   

"How about a drink, Mathew?"

Then she staggers across to Mathew, suggesting that he should have a drink.

He gets the distinct impression that she has had too much already, 

"Let's go somewhere quieter"

but she suggests, “Let’s have a drink and go somewhere quieter to enjoy ourselves.”

"Can you take a look at this, Mathew?"

Sioned is having trouble with the baby monitor and would like Mathew to take a look at it.   

Dani does not like being given the 'cold shoulder'

Dani does not like being left like that 

Lleucu is becoming increasingly concerned

and Lleucu is becoming concerned by her inebriated state.

Siôn has decided that he will move

Siôn has brought several boxes of belongings to the shop flat, and Eileen wants to know what is going on;  “Sorry – I tried to phone – I hope you don’t mind.   

"I won't have my son talk to me like that . . ."

“I’ve brought a few things over.   I won’t have my son talk to me like that, 

". . . so I've moved out of Y Felin!"

so I’ve moved out of Y Felin.”

Eileen is not happy with the fact that he is moving in there;  

"It's a bit early to move in together"

“It’s a bit early to move in together, don’t you think?”   

He explains that it is only temporary, until Iolo comes to his senses;  “What you said was right – I need to make a stand!”   

Eileen maintains that hiding from Iolo will not solve his problems, 

"I'm not hiding"

but he maintains that he is not hiding, simply giving his son some time.   “I don’t think having me around helped either.”

"You've brought a lot of stuff"

She can see that he has brought a large amount of stuff with him;  he insists that he could not leave his collection of poems by Waldo and Cynan in Y Felin.   Now he will go and get the rest from the car;  

"What?   There's more?"

Eileen is rather concerned that there is even more.

"Am I being paranoid?"

Sioned is becoming more and more frustrated at the farm;  she complains to Mathew, “People are in and out and nobody is closing the door – am I being paranoid?”   

"I won't let anything happen to you"

He replies that she has every right to be paranoid after what happened to her;  he promises that he will not let anything happen to her or to the children.

"What have I done to deserve someone like you?"

“What have I done to deserve someone like you looking after me?” she sighs.   

"Shall I open the second barrel?"

Rhys proposes opening the second barrel, 

They appear to be putting it away

as Howard and Dani have been making inroads into the first one.

Howard is remarking upon the fact that Lleucu is underage for drinking, 

"She deserves to be let loose"

but Dani answers, “She’s a teenager – she deserves to be let loose.”   Howard appreciates that things have not been easy for Lleucu, with her father and everything.

"I don't know how a parent could do that to their child!"    

“I just don’t know how a parent could do that to their child!” Dani drunkenly declares, 

"It's hard to know what people think"

but he says that it is hard to know what people think when they hit rock-bottom.

Just as Lleucu enters the room, Dani continues, “Don’t get me wrong – Cai has problems, I know that – but he chose to kill himself!   Seren had no choice – she lost her life and he was just trying to throw his away!”   

"He couldn't even do that properly!"

Then she sneers, “He couldn’t even do that properly!”

Lleucu turns and walks out, while Howard suggests that Dani might like a packet of crisps.   

Then she goes to pester Mathew 

She ignores him and walks across to Mathew;  “Where have you been?   I’ve been looking for you.   

"Do you want some fresh air?"

“Do you want some fresh air?   We could go out for a chat.”

"You should have a coffee, Dani"

He replies that she should have a coffee, but she argues that she does not want one and manages to knock a can from the table, 

Under the table is a teddy

then notices a teddy bear on the floor underneath.

"I gave this to Lili"

“I gave this to Lili,” she slurs, “And you just throw it on the floor?”   

"She loves playing with it"

Sioned explains that the reason why it is out is that Lili loves playing with it.   

"Isn't my stuff good enough?"

“Oh, come on, Sioned!   Isn’t my stuff good enough, now that you have all that money?”

"And why are you still using Malcolm?"

Mathew tries to reason with her, but she will not stop;  “And why are you still using Malcolm, after what he did to me?   

"You're just like that cow of a mother of yours!"

“You're just like that cow of a mother of yours!   What happened to #metoo?   Oh, I don’t know, perhaps you like a sugar daddy – no wonder DJ took the kids!   

"Call yourself a mother?"

“A shame he didn’t rescue Lili from you – call yourself a mother?”

"What the hell is wrong with you, Dani?"

Matthew furiously demands, “What the hell is wrong with you?” but Dani is adamant that she is fine.   

"I think the party's over, Dan"

Rhys thinks that the party is over; in response she simply picks up another bottle.

"Do you want me to stay?"

As the film has come to an end, Tom asks Ffion whether she wants him to stay until Jinx gets home.   She says that she will go to bed now;  

"Thanks for being my Richard Gere"

“Thanks for being my Richard Gere.”   He offers to call in every morning 

"I'll ask Jinx to put me on the rota"

and will ask Jinx to put him on the rota, if she likes.

"You just want to watch Pretty Woman again!"

“You just want to watch Pretty Woman again – you might as well admit it,” she laughs, 

"Gaynor will be wondering where you are"

“You’d better go, or Gaynor will be wondering where you are.”

The looks again at apiece of compost

When he has gone, she picks up a tiny piece of compost from the floor and looks carefully at it, but her memory will not return.

"Just go home, Dani!

Things are now quiet at Penrhewl, with only the drunken Dani and Lleucu remaining of the guests.   Mathew instructs Dani, “Just go home and sober up!”   Lleucu has booked a taxi which will be there shortly and then visits the toilet.

"Let me explain"

Dani wants to explain to Mathew, 

"I just want you to go!"

but all he wants is for her to go;  Howard is sitting silently on the sofa 

"Do you think I'm awful as well?"

and she asks him, “Do you think I’m awful as well?”

"Awfully drunk!"

“Awfully drunk, perhaps,” he replies and she thinks that she will go and talk to Sioned.   

"Wait until everyone is sober"

Howard advises that she should wait until everyone is sober.

"You talk a lot of sense"

As she staggers about, she realises that he is talking a lot of sense;  “I hadn’t noticed that about you before.”

"You hadn't notice me at all until now"

“That’s not a surprise – you hadn’t noticed me at all until now,” he comments.

"Do you think I'm a nice person?"

She slumps on the sofa beside him, enquiring, “Do you think I’m a nice person?” 

"You're lovely, Dani"

and he says that she is lovely.

"I don't think that's a good idea!"

She moves forward to kiss him, but he does not think that is a good idea;  

Dani does not agree

“I think it’s a good idea,” she says and wastes no time in doing so.   

Lleucu is watching this display

From the doorway, Lleucu is watching.
