21 May 2025

Maya opens the pharmacy . . .

Maya is opening the pharmacy for the day and surprised to see Gaynor outside the door;

. . . and finds Gaynor on the doorstep

“Look, please don’t feel you have to say yes, but is it all right for me to work today?”

"I'm pleased to have you back"

Maya is pleased to have her back.   “I just want a change from the house, you know?” says Gaynor, but Maya is worried.

"Sorry if I crossed the line yesterday"

She apologises if she crossed the line yesterday and acknowledges that she should not get involved,

"I'm lucky to have a friend who looks out for me"

but Gaynor replies, “I’m lucky to have a friend who looks out for me – it’s nice to be back.”

Tom is at Deri Fawr again

Jinx had been expecting Megan, but instead Tom turns up again;

"Megan's got a heavy cold"

“She’s got a heavy cold and I said I would come in her place,” he explains and has brought some flowers for Ffion.   “Is she still asleep?” he enquires and is told that Ffion is,

"I'll stay until she wakes up"

so he decides to wait until she wakes up, which Jinx regards as rather peculiar behaviour.

"I don't think it's a good idea for you to come here"

“Er, Tom, I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to come here any more,” he says, with Tom wondering whether Ffion said anything.

"Does Gaynor realise how often you come here?"

“She just needs to be left alone to recover properly – does Gaynor realise how often you come here?”

"She knows Ffion and I are friends"

“Of course – she knows that Ffion and I are friends,” Tom answers.

"I feel a responsibility to protect her"

Jinx is simply concerned that he feels a responsibility to protect her;  she can make decisions for herself once she is better.

"She's very lucky to have you"

“Fair enough – she’s very lucky to have someone like you to look out for her,” comments Tom.   Jinx reiterates that he does not think they need Tom’s help today and thinks it best that he should leave,

Jinx is glad to have got rid of him

which he does.

Anita arrives home

Anita comes into number 7, where she starts haranguing Kelly, “Don’t pretend – I know exactly what you’ve been doing!”

"What have I done now?"

Kelly wonders what on earth she has done now

"Plotting to steal my money!"

and Anita continues, “Plotting to steal my money!   You and that man of yours!”

"Whoa, whoa – I don't have a man"

“Whoa, whoa!   OK, first of all I don't have a man, all right?” Kelly responds.

"I heard you, Kelly . . ."

“You’re going to deny it?   I heard you, Kelly!”   Kelly enquires what she allegedly said and is informed,

". . . you were going to come in on the horse"

“You were going to wait until I was asleep and then you were going to come in on the horse to steal my money!   Well, you’re not as clever as you think!”

"So where is the money now?"

Kelly calmly wonders, “Where is the money now?”

Now Anita is confused

which Anita seems to find very confusing.   “Do you think it might have been a dream?

"Do you think you, like, imagined it?"

“That you, like, imagined it?”   Anita is adamant that is what she heard.

“I believe you – I’m sure you heard something, OK?   Do you remember the doctor saying that perhaps, sometimes,

"You would hear and see things that aren't there?"

“you would hear and see things that aren’t there?”

"Now you're playing tricks"

Now Anita accuses her of playing tricks,

"No, I'm just looking after you, Auntie Neet"

but Kelly confirms that she is simply looking after her aunt.

"Don't touch me!"

Anita flinches away from any touch, snarling, “Don’t touch me!

"You're not going to get your hands on my money!"

“I know about you – you’re not going to get your hands on my money, you hear?”

Kelly is reduced to tears

As Anita goes upstairs, Kelly is in tears.

"I've brought a prescription for Greta"

Iolo arrives at the pharmacy and wishes Maya good morning;  he has brought a prescription for Greta and enquires whether Gaynor is still hiding.

"I'm worried about her"

Maya urges him to be quiet, as she is in the back room;  “I don’t mean to gossip, but I’m worried about her.”

"The drink, is it?"

Iolo imagines that it may be to do with her drink problem, but Maya dispels that thought;

"I have serious doubts about Tom"

“I have serious doubts about Tom – I don’t think he treats her well.”

Iolo asks if she has spoken to Gaynor about it and is told that she keeps defending him.   Looking at the prescription, she advises that they do not have it in stock but can get it by tomorrow,

"Tomorrow's fine"

so he leaves the pharmacy.

Kelly is scrubbing the counter

Kelly is working off her frustration by furiously scrubbing the counter of the food van when Diane approaches;

"Hey, Kelly!   I've got good news!"

“Hey, Kelly!   I’ve got good news!”

"Come on, then – spill!|"

Kelly could do with some of that at the moment and tells her to ‘spill’.

"Ifan's coming over this afternoon"

“Sara has phoned to say that Ifan has been asking about Mam-gu and Kelly.   She’s going to bring him over this afternoon to see us.”

Kelly was not expecting that

This comes as a shock to Kelly,

"I'll just finish up here"

who says that she will finish up there and then they can go and prepare;  she sounds quite excited.

"How many more times?"

Tom arrives at Deri Fawr once more and by this time jinx is becoming rather tired of his constant appearances.   “Tom, how many times do I have to tell you?   Ffion needs to be left alone!”

"I want to say sorry"

This time Tom is carrying four cans and maintains that he wants to say sorry if he has offended jinx in any way, protesting that he is only there to help.

"There's nothing going on between Ffion and me"

“And there’s nothing going on between Ffion and me – we are just friends.   You know yourself how difficult it is to come to a new village and make friends – I’m sure you and I would get along if you gave us a chance.”

Jinx does not appear very friendly

Jinx does not look as if he is likely to become friends with Tom any time soon,

"Have you got time to open a couple of these?"

but Tom presses on;  “Have you got time to open a couple of these?” he enquires.

"I've just been on the phone to Megan . . ."

Jinx replies, “I’ve just been on the phone with Megan and she’s fine – she had no idea what you were talking about.   She said that you phoned in order to cancel the rota.”

". . . she hasn't had a cold for some time"

Tom improvises that she must have misunderstood, but Jinx continues that Megan has not had a cold for some time.

"Perhaps I misunderstood"

Now Tom insists that he must have understood in that case.

"Thanks for these . . ."

Jinx picks up the cans and thanks him for them,

". . . but, no thanks!"

adding, “But, no, thanks!   See you.”   Tom leaves the house without a further word.

"These bags are heavy!"

Kelly and Diane come into number 7, complaining that the bags are heavy, as Anita comes downstairs and enquires what they are doing.

"We're going to make cakes"

Diane proudly announces that Ifan is coming over;  “We’re going to make a cake for him and for Megan’s retirement party,” Kelly answers and Anita is eager to help.

"I can't remember that last time I did some baking"

She cannot remember the last time she did some baking;  “And not because of the dementia,” she adds.

Jinx puts out his sign

Jinx is putting his sign outside The Pizza Place when he sees Gaynor coming out of the deli;  he calls to her

"Thanks for the flowers"

and says that Ffion wanted to thank her for the flowers that Tom brought over.   “And thank you for being so generous with lending Tom.”

"Didn't you know?"

She cannot understand what he is talking about, so he explains, “Didn’t you know?   He’s been coming over to see Ffion almost every day – Ffion says she doesn’t know what she would do without him –

"They seem very good friends"

“they seem very good friends.   Fair play to him – he’s taking everyone’s shifts on the rota – he cancelled Megan and is there for hours every day.   He called twice this morning.”

"I didn't know he went there so often"

She was not aware that he went there so often,

"Forget I said anything, OK?"

so Jinx enigmatically tells her, “Forget I said anything, OK?”

Gaynor is not happy

As intended, Gaynor is not happy.

A hive of industry at number 7

It is a scene of frantic activity in the kitchen of number 7, with the three of them baking, Kelly beating the cake mixture while Anita is making buttercream.   Diane remarks that it is like a factory in there.

"I used to do this every day at one time"

Anita reminisces, “Oh, this takes me back – I used to do this every day at one time.”

"Ifan will be over the moon"

Kelly predicts that Ifan will be over the moon, but while her back is turned,

Anita takes some of her icing . . .

Anita takes a large spoonful of butter icing

. . . and adds it to Kelly's cake mixture

and deposits it in Kelly’s cake mixture.

"Auntie Neet – it's ruined!"

“Auntie Neet!” she squeals, “It’s ruined!” and Anita realises what she has done.

"It's disgusting"

“It’s disgusting!   Look, it’s curdled already!”

"Kelly!"

Diane tries to calm her down, pointing out that accidents do happen

"I didn't realise what I was doing"

and Anita apologises that she did not realise what she was doing.

"It won't be ready for Ifan"

“Do you know what?   We’ll have to start again – and it won’t be ready for Ifan!” exclaims Kelly.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"

Anita appears to be suffering a panic attack, repeatedly wailing how sorry she is, and disappears upstairs.

"Cancel it – I can't see Ifan!"

“Cancel it!” Kelly growls to Diane, “I can’t see Ifan,”

"But he's looking forward to it"

but Diane says that he is looking forward to it.

"I can't do this, Diane!"

“I can’t do this, Diane!”

"He's been making excuses to see her"

Up in the flat above the pharmacy, Gaynor is explaining, “He’s been making excuses to go and see her more often than he needs to.

"Do you think it's true?"

And he’s taking her flowers – you think it’s true?”

Maya asks whether she thinks it is true and Gaynor does not know;  “Jinx might be jealous – or he wants to cause trouble for Tom.”

"Why would he lie?"

Maya wonders why he would lie, but Gaynor is adamant that Tom is just trying to be kind.

"I think you need to open your eyes, Gaynor"

“I think you need to open your eyes, Gaynor – all the signs are there – the police turning up, saying things behind your back.”

"Sometimes I feel I don't know him at all"

Gaynor comes to the realisation, “Sometimes I feel like I don’t know him at all.”

"There's one way to find out"

Maya suggests that there is one way to find out – by asking him about the flowers and volunteers to go with her.

"This is something I have to do myself"

“No, it’s all right – this is something I have to do myself,” Gaynor decides, but is warned to be careful.

"I know – all right!"

Diane finds Kelly leaning against the fire escape near the food van;  “I know – all right!” Kelly snarls,

"Have you cancelled Ifan?"

“I’m sorry.   Have you cancelled Ifan?”   Diane confirmed that she has.

"I can't cope with both of them, you know"

“Probably for the best – I can’t cope with both of them, you know.   Is Auntie Anita OK?”

"She was a bit upset"

Diane replies that she was a bit upset;

"Because I'm an awful person"

Kelly goes on, “Because I’m an awful person – I’m so angry, Diane.   That illness is taking Auntie Anita away more each day – and I take it out on her!   And now it’s taken Ifan away as well.   And it’s not about me – but it’s taking over my life as well, like.”

"Life is cruel, Kelly"

Diane agrees that life is cruel;  Kelly confesses, “I'm struggling with being around her – and God knows how much time I have left with her –

"It's all I think about 24-7!"

“but that’s all I think about 24-7!   It’s so difficult!”

"Perhaps you need something to keep you busy"

Diane suggests that perhaps she needs something to keep her busy;  “I don’t know – the van, perhaps – you could take it over completely – we can organise transferring it into your name.”

"That's not going to make everything OK"

“That’s not going to make everything OK,” Kelly groans,

"I hoped that it might help"

but Diane was hoping that it might help.

"I've done a good job of pushing everyone away today"

“Sorry, Diane – I’ve done a good job of pushing everyone away today.”

"It could be part of the divorce settlement"

Diane thinks that it could be possibly part of the divorce settlement and,

"Thank you, Diane"

amid the tears, Kelly thanks her.

"Thanks for listening"

The door of the pharmacy opens and Gaynor thanks Maya for listening;

Is he never at work?

Tom is hanging around by APD and keeping watch.   He does not appear happy to see they have been exchanging thoughts.

Anita is busy baking

When Kelly arrives back at number 7, Anita has been busy baking cakes and announces that there is another batch in the oven;

"I wanted to make something to say sorry"

she just wanted to make something to say she is sorry.   Kelly replies that she is the one who should say sorry.

Anita gives her a hug

Anita gives her a hug, then goes back to mixing the next batch of cakes;

"It all came back to me"

“Well I’m used to it – it all came back to me,” she tells them.

"How about making cakes – for Y March Gwyn?"

Kelly wonders if she would like to make more cakes, although she is reminded that there are plenty there already for Megan’s party.

“No, not for that,” replies Kelly, “For Y March Gwyn.

"If my customer request delicious cupcakes . . ."

“You know, if my customers request delicious cupcakes, then . . .”

"It would be a pleasure"

Anita would love to oblige.

Gaynor returns home

Tom is sitting, reading the Western Post, when Gaynor returns to the house;

"Where have you been?"

“Where have you been?   I've been thinking all kinds of things,” he growls.   She says that she wanted some fresh air, so went for a walk.

"Did you see anyone?"

The usual interrogation continues, “Did you see anyone?   While you were ‘getting fresh air’, did you see anyone?”   She replies that she saw Jinx, but no-one else.

"You don't believe me?"

As he knows this is untrue, he glowers at her and she responds, “What?”   You don’t believe me?”

"Of course I believe you"

He gets up and maintains that of course he believes her, then suggests that they could have a takeaway and a bottle of wine for dinner.

"I'm  not drinking, remember"

She reminds him that she is not drinking, but he insists that a small glass in the house is not a problem.

"Turn the oven on to keep the curry warm"

“Turn the oven on to keep the curry warm when I get back – see you later,” he says and kisses her.

He confronts Maya

Curry is the last thing on his mind when he arrives in the village and goes straight to the pharmacy, confronting Maya.

"I'm closing"

“I’m closing,” she tells him, so he comments that it is lucky he caught her.

"A word of warning . . ."

“A word to the wise – a word of warning – Gaynor is the most important thing in my life

". . . I'm not going let you spoil that!"

“and I’m not going to let you or anyone else threaten her or my happiness!” he threatens.

"You're playing with Gaynor's head"

Maya stands her ground;  “I know what you’re doing – playing with Gaynor’s head.   I know it was you who called the police about the drink-drive.”

"Do you have evidence of that?"

He enquires whether she has evidence of that and she says that she will find proof.

He asks, “Why would do I do that?”

"You're isolating her and getting control"

Maya says that he is isolating her and getting control.   “And when you get your ‘proof’, what are you going to do with it?”

"I'll make her see the man you really are!"

“Make her see you for the man that you really are!”

"Well, good luck with that!"

Tom wishes her good luck with that and lets himself out of the shop,

"Good night"

wishing her good night.

She quickly locks the door

She hurries to lock the door behind him.
