Tegwen is talking on the phone

Tegwen is collecting up glasses in the Deri and talking on the phone

Mathew arrives

when Mathew comes in;  she tells him that they have reserved a table for APD and he puts some money behind the bar so that the boys can have a drink.   He also puts down on the bar presents for her and Ken.

"I'll be there a little later"

“I’ll be there a little later, so you carry on,” she continues to the person on the other end of the phone, “Is Ken OK?

"Tell him I'll see him later"

“Tell him I’ll see him later.”   By the time she ends the call,

"Oh, he's gone"

Mathew has left the pub again.

"Her body has been through a trauma"

DJ is at Penrhewl, attempting to see Sioned, but is prevented by Eileen;  “Her body has been through a trauma,” he is told,

"That's what I want to see her"

and he stresses that is why he wants to see her, to make sure that she is OK.   “Let her sleep for now,” says Eileen, “I’ll phone you when she’s up and has had something to eat.”   He walks out of the farmhouse, very disappointed.

"Why won't he leave me alone?"

In a moment, Sioned appears;  “Why won’t he leave me alone?” she demands, “I don’t want to see him,”

"Yes, I know that, Sioned"

and her mother is very much aware of that.

Eifion puts on his shoes

In the shop flat, Eifion is tying his shoelaces when Jason comes in,

Jason shows off his jumper . . .

showing off his Christmas jumper,

. . . and so does Eifion

so Eifion displays his as well, and wonders why Anita is not with him.   “She was taking too long to get ready – she’s probably on her way.”

Mathew displays his jumper

Mathew comes in and they want to see his jumper, complete with lights;

"Don't touch, Mathew!"

he is confident that he will win the first prize, and suggests that they can have a can before they go to the Deri.

At Bryntirion, Anita is putting the finishing touches to her appearance when there is a knock at the door

Anita has a visitor

and she finds that Ieuan Griffiths is visiting.   He is very complimentary about her dress, but she worries that it is too much.

"You'll be the prettiest of them all"

“It’s full of festive spirit and very pretty,” he informs her, “You’ll be the prettiest of them all at the Deri.

"Are you ready, then?"

“Are you ready, then?”

"Partners are not allowed, Ieuan"

She reminds him that partners cannot attend,

"I'm just the chauffeur"

and he replies that he is just the chauffeur, as she needs to arrive in style.

"My lady!"

He seems to be in a great hurry to leave.

Dani receives a text

Dani comes into the Deri, where Siôn and Gaynor are eating lunch, when she receives a text on her phone;

"Bad news?"

“Bad news?” asks Garry, behind the bar, but she is not sure,

"It's the mark for my essay"

as it is the mark for her essay.   This immediately attracts the attention of Gaynor;  “I have to log in,” says Dani,

"Can I help?"

and she refuses any help from Garry.   Gaynor tries to assure Dani that she will be fine.   “I can’t log in – that circle thing – is the Wi-Fi working?” wails Dani,

She manages to log in . . .

but finally manages to do it.

. . . and gasps with amazement

Then she gasps, and everyone is eager to know the result;

"65% – I got 65%!"

“65% – I got 65%!” she squeals, “This is more than fine – this is, like, 10% better than the last one!”

She excitedly hugs Garry

and she hugs Garry.

"Are you sure it wasn't 85%?"

Gaynor is concerned that it is 65%, and considers that it should be 85%.

"Cheating is cheating"

Siôn makes it clear that he cannot keep quiet any longer;  “Cheating is cheating,” he stresses, “Dani, I know that it was Gaynor’s idea, but in the end you agreed to go ahead with the plan,

"I'll have to report you to the university"

so I’m afraid I’ll have to report you to the university.”

Garry is at a loss to know what Siôn is talking about, and Siôn continues, “In fairness to the other students.”

"This was my essay – right, Siôn?"

Dani emphasises that this was her essay;  “Gaynor told you she had written an essay, right?

"It just didn't sound like me, you know?"

“And I read it, but it just didn’t sound like me, you know?   I didn’t agree with your argument.”

Gaynor protests that she did hours of research, but Dani goes on that she could not have lived with herself if she had sent that in.

"I was up all night, writing the essay"

“So, Siôn, I was up all night, drinking loads of coffee, writing the essay – and I got 65%!   Yay – me!”

Siôn is more concerned about the scholarship

Siôn congratulates her and remarks that the scholarship’s good name remains intact.

Dani is ecstatic

Dani scampers across the Deri, shouting, “Yes!   Yes!”

Anita and Ieuan enter a palatial house

The scene changes to a a very large and imposing house, where we see Anita and Ieuan coming in through the front door.

"What are we doing here, Ieuan?"

“I don’t understand – what are we doing here?” she asks.   He enquires if she likes the place, and she describes it as incredible;

"I'm going to be late for the party"

“But I’m going to be late for the party.”

Ieuan invites her to take a good look round;  “And tell me honestly what you think of the place.”

She summarises that it is a big house, incredible and grand;  “What do you want me to say?   You said you’d take me to the party.”

"You're going to love this, Anita"

Now he wants to take her to another room  and predicts that she is going to love it.

APD staff arrive for the party

In the Deri, the APD party is beginning when Jason, Eifion and Mathew arrive.

Two jumpers are exactly the same

is also sporting a Christmas jumper, which is exactly the same as Eifion’s.   Mathew points out that the first drink, and perhaps the second, is already paid for,

"You're a great boss, Mathew!"

so Jason praises him for being a great boss.

The secret Santa gifts are handed out,

"Very good service behind the bar"

and Mathew compliments Tegwen on the service behind the bar.

"Only the best for you"

“Only the best for you,” she replies.

Anita is led into the kitchen . . .

Ieuan has now taken Anita to the very opulent kitchen,

. . . with its special sign

where there is a sign, ‘Cegin Anita’. [Anita’s Kitchen]

"Have you brought me here to show me that?"

She does not understand.   “Have you brought me here just to show me that?” she demands, rather annoyed.

"Yes, I put it up there"

“Yes, I put it up there,” he says,

"You're not selling this house, are you?"

and she realises that he is not selling this house.

"I've bought it – for us – to live in – together"

“No,” he smiles, “I’ve bought it – for us – to live in, together,”

He holds up the keys

and he holds up the keys.   Anita is absolutely speechless.

They wonder where Anita is . . .

The APD party seems to be going off with a swing and they wonder where Anita has got to,

. . . and then she arrives

then she arrives, apologising that she is late and explaining that Ieuan wanted to show her a house.

"He's bought a house for me and him!"

“A house that he’s bought for us – for me and him!”

"I need a large Prosecco!"

She is in need of a large Prosecco and then they set about opening their presents.

A mug and some chocolate

Eifion has a Father Christmas mug and some chocolate,

A photograph of the APD staff

Mathew a photograph of the APD staff, which Anita suggests he could put in his bedroom, so they are the first thing he sees in the morning.

"It's last year's!"

Tyler has an out-of-date ‘Hot Builders’ calendar.

"That will go lovely in the new house"

Jason comes back with a bottle of Prosecco to find that Anita has unwrapped a larger than life-size mask of Ieuan Griffiths, which it is said will go lovely in the new house.

"Baubles for Beard!"

Then it is Jason’s turn, and he discovers a box of ‘Baubles for Beard’ which he can put in his hair.

Mathew proposes a toast

Mathew proposes a toast to say thank you very much to all the staff of APD, and to wish them all a Merry Christmas.

Sioned's phone rings

At Penrhewl, Sioned’s phone sounds yet again with another call from DJ.

"He's not going to stop phoning"

“He’s not going to stop phoning,” her mother warns, but Sioned does not want to talk to him, asking what is there to say.

"Would it have happened if we hadn't fallen out?"

Eileen brings over some tablets for her to take, and wonders, “Do you think it would have happened if we had not fallen out?”

"It's my fault, Mam!"

“I didn’t lose the baby because I fell out with you – it’s my fault – my body can’t do the most natural thing in the world,” Sioned groans.

Jason is suitably adorned

Jason now has a full complement of baubles in his hair,

The Prosecco bottle is now empty

and Anita has drunk her way through the whole bottle of Prosecco.   She asks Mathew to fetch her a glass of water, but it is stressed that what she needs is another bottle.   Anita is beginning to regret not ordering the buffet,

"I could destroy a 'Fish Finger Surprise'!"

and Jason maintains that he could destroy a ‘Fish Finger Surprise’.

"I'm supposed to go on a spa day with him"

“Do you know what?   I’m supposed to go on a spa day with Ieuan tomorrow.”

"It must be love"

Jason remarks that if he is spending his money on her again, it must be love.

"It's not the same as buying a house, is it?"

“But spending money on a spa day is not quite the same as buying someone a house, is it?” she demands, “You don’t spoil someone by buying them a house!”   Jason replies that you do if you have enough money.

“Would you buy Kelly a house?” Anita wants to know, and he says that he would,

"On a beach in the Caribbean"

“on a beach in the Caribbean – but perhaps not without asking her.

“What am I going to say to him?” she agonises,

"You could tell him the truth"

and Jason suggests she could tell him the truth.

"Buy yourself a little drink"

At the bar Tegwen informs Mathew that there are a few pounds left of the money he put behind the bar, so he tells her to buy herself a little drink and invites her to join them if she would like.

    "I didn't thank you properly"

She forgot to thank him properly for the presents earlier;

"It was a very kind thing to do"

“It was a very kind thing to do, and I know that Ken will love them.”

Things are looking up

It appears that relations between them are definitely improving.

"Are those tablets starting to work?"

Eileen asks Sioned, “Are those tablets starting to work? and Sioned simply nods.   Then she says she is sorry about earlier.

"I don't know how to make you feel better"

“I just don’t know how to help you feel better,” her mother tells her,

"Neither do I"

and neither does Sioned know that.

"Shall we go for a walk?"

She does not fancy going out for a walk,

"What did I do wrong, Mam?"

and pleads, “What did I do wrong, Mam?”

"You've done nothing wrong, love"

Eileen insists that she has done nothing wrong.

Jason is still resplendent in his baubles,

The alcohol is affecting Anita's eyesight

and Anita is trying to compose a text message, but complains that she is unable to see the words properly, so Eifion suggests that she sends a voice note.   “What’s that?” she demands.

Eifion instructs her

“See this button here?   Keep your finger on that button, record what you want to say and then send it to whoever you want,” he instructs her.   They all presume that it will be a message to Griffiths,

"Mind your own business"

but she tells them to mind their own business,

She gets up unsteadily from the table

then leaves them to record her message to Kelly.

They accuse her of trying to dodge her round of drinks, and she says she will pay for the next one.

Looks are being exchanged between Tegwen . . .

It is fairly obvious that Tegwen

. . . and Mathew

and Mathew cannot resist frequently looking at each other;  “What was that?   I saw that!” says Jason,

"What's going on there, then, Mathew?"

“What’s going on there, then, Mathew?”

"Just get in with your pint"

He replies that they should just get on with their pint.

"What's this big secret, then?"

Up in the Deri flat, Dani asks Garry, “What’s this big secret you’re planning, then?”

"Is it OK to come over tomorrow?"

He denies that he is planning anything, but asks if it is OK for him to come over tomorrow.

"It depends how I feel"

“I don’t know – it depends how I feel,” she answers.

"You can't always have your own way"

“You can’t always have your own way,” he says, and she wants to know why not.   “I’m proud of you,” he continues, “You’re doing so much – the kids, work, the mark you had for that essay earlier.

"Is it OK to say that?   You're a . . ."

“I’m proud – it is OK for me to say that, isn’t it?   Because you’re a . . .”

"Genius?"

At this point he seems lost for words, and she suggests that he might be looking for, “Genius?”

"You got 65%, not 95%!"

He reminds her that she got 65%, not 95%, but agrees that perhaps she is a genius.

"And don't you forget that"

Dani advises him,  “Don’t forget that,” and as he leaves the flat, both of them have smiles on their faces.

Anita records her tale of woe

Anita, who is becoming increasingly inebriated, records her message to Kelly;  “He’s put this sign up in the kitchen with my name on it –

"As if I'm going to be some kind of maid"

“as if I’m going to be some kind of maid for him, and that the kitchen isn’t anything to do with him at all.   I’ll talk to you again, Kelly, OK?”

"What do I do next?"

Then she returns to the party-goers to ask what she is supposed to do next,

"Swipe up – and the message has gone"

and Eifion instructs her to take her finger off the button, swipe up, and the message has gone.

"I'm glad you explained that"

He asks if Griffiths is sulking, and she is pleased that Eifion has explained how to do these voice notes,

so she will not have to text all the time.

"It's my round, isn't it?"

Eifion stresses that they all need to keep up with technology, then she suddenly realises that it is her round.

"Of course it's the best"

Mathew is again at the bar, confirming with Tegwen that his Christmas jumper is the best;  of course, being biased, she agrees with this,

The others do not agree

but all the others regard it as nonsense.

Griffiths takes the sign . . .

At his new house, Griffiths is carrying the sign from the kitchen

. . . and finds a voice note on his phone

when he receives a voice note,

"You'll never believe what Ieuan's done now"

and is very surprised to hear Anita’s voice, informing Kelly, “You’ll never believe what Ieuan has done now – he’s bought a new house for both of us.   Who would do such a thing?   He didn’t ask or anything.”

"As if I'm going to be some kind of maid"

He is looking increasingly concerned as she goes on, “He’s put this sign up in the kitchen with my name on it – as if I’m going to be some kind of maid for him, and that the kitchen isn’t anything to do with him at all.”

He is very downcast

He is extremely disappointed.
