"Thanks for letting us stay, Gaynor"

Colin thanks Gaynor for letting them stay at Llwyncelyn, and she asks if anyone knows what caused the fire.   He answers that they do not,

Aaron has his own ideas

but Aaron obviously has his own ideas about that.   “Well, things could have been a lot worse, couldn’t they?” Gaynor continues,

"Thank goodness Britt's has the all clear"

Thank goodness Britt’s had the all clear.”

"We can't go home, can we?"

Colin would like to have given her a decent welcome home, “But we can’t go home, can we?”   She wonders if the fire service have given any indication of how the fire started,

"You can stay at Hywel's house temporarily"

and adds that Hywel’s house is empty at the moment;  they are welcome to stay there temporarily.

“There’s no furniture there, but I’m sure we can sort something out,” says Gaynor; however, Colin does not want to be any trouble.   “Don’t be silly – we’re glad we can help – the only thing is I’m busy this morning.   Can you wait until this afternoon for me to sort something?”

Colin adds a lavish amount of honey to his toast

Colin is confident that they will find  in the end, and she will go over there as soon as she can.

He thanks her very much for her help, but meanwhile Aaron remains silent;

"Right, it's time to pick your mother up"

“Right, it’s time to pick your mother up from the hospital,” says Colin, adding,

"She loves you more than any photo"

“She loves you more than any photo – you understand that, don’t you?

"I'll let you know where we are"

And listen – I’ll let you know where we are after you finish school – OK, kiddo?”

Tea and toast for Eifion

Mathew brings Eifion a cup of tea and some toast;  he is told, “I could get used to this!” and is assured that he deserves it.

"You can buy any box set you want"

He is even told that he can buy any box set he wants on the TV.   As Mathew leaves for work, Rhys comes in, wishing Eifion good morning,

Rhys brings chocolates

and presents him with a box of chocolates.   “I was going to give them to you yesterday –

"But if you don't want them . . ."

“but if you don’t want them . . .” says Rhys, and is prepared to take them away again, but Eifion will keep them.

“I don’t rescue people from fires to get chocolates,” he stresses,

"If you are kind to other people . . ."

but Rhys points out that if you are kind to other people, they are kind to you – that is how it works.

“I think a lot of people in the village will change their opinion about you – you’re a hero now, aren’t you?”

Eifion likes the sound of that

Eifion quite likes the sound of that.

Dani's phone rings again . . .

Dani is rather busy in the Deri flat when her phone sounds and we see that it is a call from Colin;

. . . with Colin's sixth attempt

there are already five missed calls from him.   She is exhausted, but answers it this time,

"Sorry, Col, my phone was on silent"

giving the excuse that her phone was on silent and enquiring about how Britt is.

Then he asks if they can stay in the Deri flat,

"Where are you now?"

which she finds very awkward;   “No problem – where are you now?” she asks, and is surprised to hear that they are back in the village.

"Give me five minutes to sort stuff out"

“Just give me five minutes to sort stuff out and I’ll see you then.”

There is certainly a lot of stuff to sort out

It looks as if the flat will take a lot more than five minutes to tidy up.

Britt looks at the charred remains

Britt, who seems remarkably unscathed after her miraculous escape from the fire, is standing opposite the burnt-out remains of the chip shop.

"You're still weak, Britt"

Colin is anxious about her wanting to see it, pointing out that she is still weak.

Action shot of APD staff

Outside APD, Tyler and Jason are loading the van when Eifion approaches;

"Mathew's not here"

“I’m here to see Mathew,” he says, but is told that he is not there.   “It can wait, I suppose,” Eifion goes on,

"How would you feel about having me back?"

“Out of interest, how would you feel about having me back at APD?   That’s why I want to talk to Mathew – about getting my old job back.”

He meets with some opposition;

"It doesn't change the fact that you're a thief"

“You might be a hero, Eifion, but that doesn’t change the fact that you’re a thief!” replies Jason.

"I didn't steal from APD!"

When Eifion again insists that he did not steal from APD,

"Do you know when you're lying?"

Jason wonders, “Do you know when you’re lying and when you’re telling the truth?”

Eifion’s angry response is, “Do you?   Gamblers are the best liars, aren’t they?

"You probably stole the money"

“You probably stole the money to have one last go on the slot machines.   Your type have no conscience!”

Jason informs him that it is time to start walking;

"Just go – you're pathetic!"

“Just go – you’re pathetic!”

"Hey, stop that!"

Britt is nearby and intervenes;  Jason asks if she is all right.

“Yes, thanks to Eifion – he saved my life, right?” she snarls,

"I don't want to hear you shouting at him!"

“So I don’t want to hear you, or anyone else, shouting at him!”

Dani is just leaving the Deri

At that moment Dani comes out of the Deri with Gabriel in his pram.

Jason agrees in order to calm Britt and welcomes her home;  he is glad she is better.

"Thanks for your support, Britt"

Eifion thanks Britt for her support,

"It's me who would be thanking you"

but she answers, “You are joking – it’s me who should be thanking you.   If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be alive!   Listen, Eifion, I don't know how I’m going to repay you, but if there’s anything I can do . . .”

He says that there is nothing,

"Unless you can create a job for me"

but adds, “Unless you can create a job for me.”   He shouts in the direction of APD, “Being a hero isn’t enough for  some!”

Britt heads towards the Deri.

Britt marches off in the direction of the Deri, followed by Colin.

"What was that cloak and dagger phone call?"

Hywel comes into the Deri and looks around;  noticing Griffiths, he demands, “What was that cloak and dagger phone call earlier?   You’re not trying to cause trouble, are you?”

"I wanted to congratulate you"

Ieuan Griffiths replies that he simply wanted to congratulate Hywel on his appointment as chair of the planning committee, and Hywel is immediately suspicious,

"I thought you would be jealous"

having assumed that he would be jealous.

"I knew you'd be the best man for the job"

“Jealous?   Oh, not at all – I put your name forward – I knew you’d be the best person for the job,” Griffiths answers, and Hywel sits down to hear more.

"I saw an opportunity for us to work together"

“I also saw an opportunity for you and I to work together – this application to turn Seilo in Cwrtmynach into flats.   The developers have agreed to sell the flats through Tomos ac Ellis.”

Hywel knows what is coming next

Hywel smiles knowingly as Griffiths goes on, “Business for me – a significant bonus for your son and –

"A generous gift for you"

“how can I put it – a generous gift for you, for steering the council in the right direction.   Everyone benefits.”

"What do yu know about Seilo Chapoel?"

Hywel smiles and asks, “What do you know about Seilo Chapel?”

"I'm not an expert on the Calvinistic Methodists"

He is told that Griffiths is not an expert on the Calvinistic Methodists.

"Did you know that my parents are buried there?"

“No – did you know that my parents are buried in that cemetery?” demands Hywel.

"Yes – Dan Llywelyn, God rest his soul"

Griffiths remembers Dan Llywelyn, “God rest his soul – but your son’s future is more important than the dead, surely?   This plan could make huge difference to Rhys’ career.”

"The answer is no, Ieuan!"

Hywel’s mind is made up;  “No – the answer is no, Ieuan, and it always will be!   I don’t need to think about it.”

"Dan would turn in his grave"

Griffiths predicts that Dan would turn in his grave, thinking his son was so sentimental.   “What grave?

"He won't have a grave if you get your way!"

“He won’t have a grave if you get your way!” growls Hywel, getting up and walking out of the pub.   Griffiths does not appreciate having been thwarted.

"I expect she's run out of milk"

Colin and Britt arrive in the Deri flat to find that Dani is not there;  “That’s strange – she said she’d be waiting for us,” he comments, and Britt suspects that she has run out of milk.

"I can't believe the way Jason talked to Eifion!"

“I can’t believe the way Jason talked to Eifion earlier,” she goes on, looking in various kitchen drawers, “Refusing to give him a job after everything he’s done for me!”

Colin is worried, and says that it is a bit delicate;

"Why did you risk your life for  photo?"

“Why did you risk your life for a photo?”

"It was a photo of Brandon"

She explains that it was a photo of Brandon, and Colin appreciates that, but points out that it was not the only photo.   “I just can’t understand it, you know, and Aaron’s a bit upset, too.

"Aaron thinks you chose the photo before him"

“He thinks you chose to save a photo of Uncle Brandon before saving him.”

She insists that is nonsense, but Colin reiterates that it is rather odd;

"I didn't know he was in the flat, did I?"

“I didn’t know Aaron was in the flat, did I?   I went to get the photo because I like that photo of Brandon –

"He was my brother and I miss him every day"

“he was my brother and I miss him every day.   And I know I could have got another photo of him – but I didn’t think of that at the time, Colin – sorry.”

"What are we going to do about Eifion's situation?"

He promises not to mention it again, and she turns to what she regards as a more pressing matter;  “What are we going to do about Eifion’s situation?”

She dials a number

She reaches a conclusion, picks up her phone and dials a number.

Griffiths reluctantly visits the shop flat

The shop flat is in an extremely untidy state when a visitor comes to see Rhys;  it is Griffiths, who looks with distaste at the flat.   He refuses a cup of tea, but wants an explanation;  “Why do I have to visit staff in their home when I’ve got better things to do?”

Rhys has had an idea

Rhys announces that he has an idea, and Griffiths hopes that it is a good one;  “You know this application for Seilo in Cwrtmynach –

"We could do the same with Bethania"

“I was thinking that we could get the ball rolling and do the same with Bethania here in Cwmderi.”

“Is that why you called me here?” Griffiths haughtily demands,

"There's a problem with the planning application . . ."

“There’s a problem with the planning application for Seilo Cwrtmynach – if we can’t sort that out, you can forget about Bethania.

". . . your father!"

“Your father is going to oppose the application.   That wasn’t part of the plan!   It could set a bad precedent for applications in the future, too.”

"I'm sorry about Dad"

Rhys apologises for his father, but is instructed, “I don’t want apologies – I want you to do something about it!

"Persuade him to change his mind!"

“Go and persuade him to change his mind – and quickly!

"And don't ask me to come here again"

“And don’t ask me to come here again,” he sneers.

Colin looks across at the chippy

Colin is peering through the blind in the Deri flat as Britt is speaking to someone on the phone;

"I'll be fine, don't worry about me"

“Me?   No, I’ll be fine – don’t worry about me – you look after yourself,” she says,

Colin is concerned

but Colin is looking very worried.

She reveals that she has been talking to Garry.

"Are you still taking your tablets?"

“Britt,” begins Colin, and she wonders what he is going to say now;  “Are you still taking your tablets?” he goes on, and she replies that of course she is.   “Because your tablets must still be in the flat,” he continues.

"You don't have to worry, Colin Evans"

“You don’t have to worry, Colin Evans – the hospital has given me some – go on, check if you want,” she points out, but he insists that her word is enough for him.

"I'm just over-thinking everything"

He maintains that he is just over-thinking everything, because he always worries about her and cannot help it.

Rhys goes to see his father

Rhys arrives at Llwyncelyn to speak to his father and gets straight to the point;

"I'm here to discuss Seilo, Cwrtmynach"

“I’m here to discuss Seilo, Cwrtmynach.”

"Right – Griffiths sent you"

Hywel immediately knows that Griffiths has sent him, but Rhys insists, “I’m here as a Tomos ac Ellis employee.”

"I'm not going to change my mind"

Hywel makes it crystal clear that he is not going to change his mind;  “My parents are buried there – do you think any families are going to agree to this?”

"You didn't even like your father"

Rhys cannot see why this is such a problem, emphasising that Hywel did not even like his father;  Hywel describes it as complicated relationship.

“When was the last time you visited his grave?” Rhys asks,

"That's enough, Rhys"

but his father wants an end to this conversation.   “Listen, Dad, we’ve both been through a lot in the last few months, and I think, unlike you and Grandad, we have a pretty good relationship now.

"Look forward and support your son"

“Doesn’t it make more sense to look forward and support your son?   It’s an exciting new development.”

"Griffiths is involved – so it's dodgy!"

Hywel is adamant, “I’d really likes to help you – but I can’t.   The fact that Griffiths is involved makes me think it’s dodgy!”

"So you won't support it because of Griffiths"

His son comes to the conclusion that he will not support it because of Griffiths, and is warned to be careful with him.

“Why should I?” demands Rhys, “He behaves more like a father to me than you do!”   Hywel tries to impress upon him that this is nothing to do with the two of them.   He is opposing it because it would damage the community.

"You put everything and everyone before me . . ."

Rhys laughs, “You never change – you always put everything and everyone before me –

". . . even the dead!"

“even the dead!”   He walks out of the house.

"I'm fine, Col"

Although she has been dozing on the sofa, Britt maintains that she is fine;

Aaron is back from school

Aaron arrives back from school, and is offered a cup of tea.   His mother says, “You were up in the flat, weren’t you?

"If I had know, I would have come straight up"

“If I had known that, I would have come straight up to you – you know that, don’t you?”   Aaron tells her to forget it, then there is a knock the door and Cassie appears.

"Colin, could you look after the bar?"

“Sorry to disturb you, but I’m here to ask a favour – Colin, could you look after the bar for half an hour?” she says,

"Yes, of course he can, Cassie"

and Britt replies of course he can.

"I have an unexpected task"

Cassie explains that she has an unexpected task, and Britt advises her to strike while the iron is hot.

Aaron is left to make the tea

Colin leaves the tea-making in the hands of Aaron and goes downstairs.

Eifion lazes on the sofa

Eifion is watching the television when Cassie arrives at the shop flat;  he is surprised to see her, wondering if she has a present for him as well.   “No,” she replies unenthusiastically,

"OI'm here to offer you a job in the Deri"

“I’m here to offer you a job in the Deri.”

"I can't believe it"

Eifion cannot believe it;

"Neither can I!"

“Neither can I,” she continues, “Just so you understand, it wasn’t my idea – it’s an order from Garry because you rescued his sister.”

“I’m looking forward to it already – when do I start?” he enquires, and she tells him tonight;  he jokes that he is not sure whether he is available.

"Don't start your nonsense with me"

“Look, don’t start your nonsense with me – it won’t get you anywhere,” she snarls.

"Chocolate, Cassie?"

He offers her a chocolate and she leaves the flat.

Eifion looks very smug

He is looking very pleased with himself.

Hywel looks through photos . . .

Hywel has been looking through old photos

. . . and memories of his father

and the order of service for his father’s funeral.

Gaynor has been chatting with Delyth

Gaynor comes in and asks if he has found the camping chairs;  “I saw Delyth and she insisted on buying me lunch – you know how she can talk!

"Colin won't understand why I haven't been in touch"

“Colin probably cannot understand why I haven’t been in touch.”

Then she notices Hywel’s preoccupied state of mind;

"I don't think Rhys will be over for dinner for a while"

he explains, “Put it this way – I don’t think Rhys will be over for dinner for a while.”   Gaynor hopes that he will grow up one day, and now has to hurry away.

"I heard you called at APD earlier"

Mathew comes into the Deri to find Eifion sitting at the bar;  “I heard that you called at APD earlier,” he says, as Tyler follows him in.   Eifion relates that he did not get much of a welcome there.

"I can't give you your job back"

“Yes – about that – I’m sorry to have to do this, but I can’t give you your job back – it’s complicated,” Mathew tells him, and Eifion can see that he is at least worried about the situation,

"I've got  new job – a better job"

but insists there is no need, as he has a new job – a better job, to be honest.

"What's that, then?"

When Mathew looks puzzled, Eifion moves to the other side of the bar

"Who wants a pint?"

and asks, “Who wants a pint?   And Cassie trusts me enough to look after the place on my own – on my first day.   It’s so nice to have colleagues who trust you – and I didn’t ask for the job – I was headhunted by Garry Monk himself.”

"Well?"

Griffiths, who has until now been sitting at the end of the bar, takes his drink to a table where Rhys is looking rather glum.

"He's not going to change his mind"

“I’m really sorry – I tried everything but he’s not going to change his mind,” Rhys says.

Griffiths comments that it was worth a try, but they will have to think of something else instead and he offers to buy Rhys another pint,

"Griffiths buying me a pint?"

which Rhys finds rather out of character.

Gaynor cleans a folding chair . . .

At Hywel’s house, next door to the Deri, Gaynor has brought the folding chairs,

. . . then makes a discovery

then goes into the kitchen where she opens a cupboard, finding what appears to be pillow with the feathers coming out of one end and she notices a strange smell.

Someone has been playing with matches

There are also several spent matches, which she looks at suspiciously.

In come Arwen and Gwern

Then the door opens as Arwen and Gwern hurry in;

"Are you brave enough to try one?"

Arwen invites him, “Are you brave enough to try one, or are you just going to watch?”

"Hello!"

Gaynor looks horrified, and announces her presence,

They were not expecting that

which comes as a great shock to the pair of them.
