Hywel seems to have solved the problem

Hywel has got up early and is still in his dressing gown as he repairs the the cupboard door;  Gaynor pronounces it a lot better,

Gaynor will find a good solicitor

and says that she will ask around today for the name of a good solicitor.

He is of the opinion that she should go and see Mathew and Tyler first to try and get them to drop the charges.

"I'm not grovelling to those two"

However, she is adamant, “I’m not grovelling to those two.”   He protests that he is not advocating that, but it is a good place to start and it could stop the case from dragging on for months.

"Tyler just wants revenge"

“No, they know my situation – Tyler just wants revenge.   I’m not going to give him the satisfaction by begging!” she insists.

Mathew's slow cooker is turned on

In the shop flat, where the large green fridge has been replaced, Mathew is busy cooking;  “Can you smell that?   It smells nice doesn’t it?” he asks Rhys,

"Not everyone likes spicy food"

who thinks that curry is risky, as not everyone likes spicy food.   Mathew forgot to ask Tegwen, but points out that at least it is a vegetarian curry.

Rhys is determined to spoil things, commenting, “I hope she’s not vegan.”

"If she is vegan, we'll go out for food"

Mathew is becoming agitated and replies that if she is, they will go out for food.

"With all the vegan restaurants around here!"

“Yeah – with all the vegan restaurants around here!” laughs Rhys.

Hywel arrives to talk to Mathew

hen there is a knock at the door and Hywel comes in;

"How is the Artful Dodger?"

Rhys immediately asks, “How is the Artful Dodger?” which his father does not appreciate.   He wants a word with Mathew – in private, so Rhys takes the hint, and leaves for work;

"I need to sort out the plans for the chapel"

“I need to sort out the plans for the chapel in Cwrtmynach,” he comments.

"That shouldn't have happened"

Hywel protests that it should not have happened, but Rhys reminds him that it has;  “And next time you call, wear a wig and a moustache – I’ve got my good name to protect!”   Hywel is disappointed that is the only thing his son is worried about, then gets down to what he wanted to say.

"There's nothing worse than losing a child"

“Look, Mathew, you know how Gaynor feels about what happened with Izzy.   There’s nothing worse than losing a child, is there?”

"You want us to drop the charge?"

Mathew knows quite well what is coming next;  “You want us to drop the charge?” and Hywel continues that he did not realise how bad Gaynor was.

"A drill isn't the only thing she's stolen"

“A drill isn’t the only thing she’s stolen – it’s an illness, but she’s going to get help,” he says, and Mathew replies he had intended to drop the charge, but Tyler feels differently.

"Tyler lost everything because of her"

“She showed no loyalty towards him at all, unfortunately – he lost everything because of her.   But I will try my best, OK?”

"Thanks for that. Mathew"

Hywel is grateful for that.

Aaron is eating a pasty

Aaron is sitting on the bench by the alley, eating a pasty,

"That looks good"

when Andrea approaches and says that it looks good.  “Oh, it’s full of fat, calories

"The bits of an animal no-one wants"

“and the bits of an animal no-one wants, probably,” he answers, and she is determined to have one now.

"How are you settling in?"

“How are you settling in at Hywel’s house?” she asks, “It must be a lot to deal with, after everything.”

"That nutter has made everything worse!"

“You have no idea!” he groans, “But that nutter has made everything a hundred thousand times worse, so it was all her fault.

"Mam, I mean"

“Mam, I mean – she stopped taking her medication – and she’s spending money like water – so we’ll be in loads of debt and Dad will be sick with worry.”

Andrea is shocked by this,

"All she had  to do was take a couple of tablets"

and he goes on, “All she had to do was take a couple of tablets every day, that’s all – and she’s loads better on them, she knows that.   I just can’t stand her!”

Andrea realises that it must be very frustrating experience for him, and he wishes that Uncle Garry was there;  “I want to go and live with him.”

"Would you like me to have a word with her?"

Andrea suggests that she could go and have a word with Britt, but Aaron forbids that;

"She's be paranoid"

“She’d be paranoid that I’ve discussed it with you.”

He is told that Andrea will not mention she has spoken to him,

"I have to take tablets for the rest of my life"

adding, “I have some experience with this – I have to take tablets for the rest of my life, remember.   It can be easier to talk to someone going through something similar.

"Not a word about you, I promise"

“Don’t worry – not a word about you, I promise.”

"Yeah – OK, then"

Aaron reluctantly agrees.

Megan is trying to save Bethania

Megan is handing out leaflets around the village and tells Andrea, “An urgent meeting in the Deri to protect the future of the village.”

"Sorry, Megan, I'm busy"

Andrea replies that she is busy, and then Hywel comes along the road.

"Bethania will be next, thanks to you!"

“Bethania will be next, thanks to you!” Megan snarls, “I can’t believe you didn’t even attend the meeting!”

"Look, I had a family crisis"

He explains that he has a family crisis, and at that moment Anita arrives,

"Is Gaynor still with the police?"

asking if Gaynor is still with the police.

"It's a misunderstanding"

“No, she’s home – it’s a misunderstanding – she’s been through a lot” Hywel tells her, and storms off.

"She was caught stealing from APD"

Anita informs Megan, “She was caught stealing from APD,” and Megan is outraged that a head teacher could do something like that.   “Yes, who would have thought it?” Anita exclaims.

"How are you settling in?"

Andrea goes to visit Britt, and asks how they are settling in;  she is told that everything is a mess, and Andrea appreciates these things take a while to sort out.   “If they get sorted out,” sighs Britt,

"The fire was my fault, you see"

“The fire was my fault, you see – we might not get the insurance money – Colin is worried sick, Aaron hates me.”

Andrea wonders why she says that;  “This wouldn’t have happened if I . . .

"I'm supposed to be on medication"

“I’m supposed to be on medication because I’m bipolar.”

"Are you on it now?"

Andrea enquires if she is on the medication now, and is told that she stopped taking them because she thought she felt better.

"I don't want to be on medication the rest of my life"

“I’d run out of tablets anyway, and I was all right for a while – but now I’m not, apparently!   I don’t want to be on medication for the rest of my life, do I?”

"That's like me"

Andrea points out that it is like her, but Britt snarls, “That’s for something physical, not mental.”   It is pointed out that the mind is part of the body, and that she needs tablets for everything to work properly;  Britt might be the same.

"Did you feel better then, or now?"

“Did you feel better when you were taking the tablets, or do you feel better now without them?” she asks.

"Ah –trick question!"

Britt regards it as a trick question, and says, “The thing is, you don’t know what it feels like to be better –

"I've caused a lot of problems for everyone"

“all I know is I’ve caused a lot of problems for myself and everyone else since I came off them.”

"Do you want to get help?"|

She is asked what she wants to do – does she want to get help, and she replies that she does.

"I'm not dropping the charges!"

Hywel approaches APD, where he is immediately informed by Tyler, “I’m not dropping the charges!”   Mathew has tried to persuade him, but without success.

"Do you realise how Gaynor feels?"

“Don’t you realise how Gaynor feels after losing a daughter?” Hywel demands, but Tyler maintains that is nothing to do with it,

"I have to check on the curry"

and Mathew cannot mediate, as he has to go and check on the curry.

Hywel continues, “What do you want out of this, Tyler?

"The judge would side with Gaynor"

“Even if you took Gaynor to court, the judge would side with Gaynor, after she lost her daughter.”

"She'll have to plead guilty"

“She’ll have to plead guilty because of the CCTV – and everyone will know, so she knows what she did to me!” Tyler gloats, “What it felt like to lose everything so publicly.

"It's Karma, not revenge"

“It’s karma, not revenge.”

Gaynor's deed is all over the Internet

Colin has come to inform Gaynor that the CCTV footage is now all over the Internet;

"Do you know how many have been in touch?"

she demands, “Do you know how many people have been in touch to ask if I’m all right, and how someone like me could do something like this?   No-one!”

"People can be awkward about it"

He replies that people can be awkward about things like this, and she goes on, “But friends?   No – which proves that,

"I don't have anyone!"

“apart from you and Hywel, I don’t have anyone.”

Hywel returns home

When Hywel returns home, she informs him that it is online,

"At least, everyone knows now"

and Colin says that at least everybody knows now and that she does not need to hide anything any more.

"Perhaps Tyler has done me a favour"

She sarcastically suggests that perhaps Tyler has done her a favour,

"I have nothing to lose"

“But, as he’s about to learn, it’s impossible to punish someone who has nothing to lose.”

"I used to love Mrs Llywelyn . . ."

Tegwen arrives at the shop, having just seen Mrs Llywelyn and Mr Rossiter walking down the street;  “I used to love Mrs Llywelyn, especially in year nine –

". . . she was too drunk to realise who turned up"

“we used to have PE every Friday afternoon, and she was too drunk to realise who turned up – so I could go home early.”

"She hasn't touched a drop for ages"

Mathew points out that she has not touched a drop for ages, and he believes that she is pretty much sorted now.   “She’s lived here for years and Cai – Mr Rossiter has just moved back.”

"I used to think Mr Rossiter was so hot!"

Tegwen used to think that Mr Rossiter was so hot, and remarks that something smells amazing.

"As long as there aren't any spices in it"

Mathew says that he has made a curry, which he hopes she likes;  “As long as there aren’t any spices in it,” she answers,

"Another rubbish joke!"

and then reveals that she is joking again.   “Curry is my favourite food – do you like cider or are you more of a lager man?”

"Where's little Ken?"

He asks where little Ken is today, and is told that her sister is picking him up from school.

"So you don't have to rush off anywhere?"

“Ah – so you don’t have to rush off anywhere?” he checks, and she says that he is stuck with her for

"As long as you can stand my bad jokes"

as long as he can stand her bad jokes.   He is sure that he can put up with them for a while.

"Can you take this to Britt and Colin later?"

Dani has just prepared a meal for Britt and Colin and put it in the oven, and asks Gwern if he will take it over to them when it is cooked.   “Can’t you go?” he growls, but she says she has to get Seren ready and Gabriel is sleeping.

"No – what's the problem?"

“No, you always ask me to go over – what’s the problem?” he demands, and she denies that there is any problem.

She has not had a recent relationship

“I haven’t been in a serious relationship for about two years,” Tegwen explains,

"His name was Jake"

“His name was Jake – I thought he felt the same as me, but the fact I have Ken – he couldn’t handle that.   Ken’s the most important person in my life, and that’s not easy for any new man.”

"How about Ken's father?"

Mathew enquires about the boy’s father, and he is dismissed as old news.   All that is important to Tegwen is that her son is happy;

"Ken knows what it is to be loved"

“We’re a big, close family, and Ken knows what it is to be loved.   Then, since Jake, I haven’t been with anyone else.

"I haven't had sex for two years . . ."

“I haven’t had sex for two years.”

". . . I can't believe I just said that!"

She cannot believe that she just said that out loud, but is so out of practice.

"I have to be so careful"

“Ken comes first, and I have to be so careful in a new relationship – it has to be someone special before I want them in our lives.”

"I won't force anything"

Mathew assures her that he will not force anything,

"I know the situation with Izzy"

and she knows his situation with Izzy, so he does not want to rush anything.

He has not been with anyone since Izzy, and at one point he could not imagine being with anyone else;

'If you think I expect anything – I don't"

“So if you think I expect anything – I don’t.”   She looks rather disappointed at this, but says she is glad they understand each other.

"She's having a lie down at the moment"

Colin is preparing food in the kitchen when his phone rings, and tells the caller that Britt is having a lie down;

Aaron wonders if Andrea was successful

he shouts for her to come downstairs, and tells her that it is the psychiatric nurse.

"Yes, I want to talk to someone . . ."

“Thanks for phoning back,” she says, “Yes, I want to talk to someone

". . . and discuss my medication"

“and I want to discuss my medication.”

Tegwen looks at a photo

Tegwen is looking at a photograph of Mathew and Izzy;

"You look so happy here"

“You look so happy here,” she says, and he confirms that they were happy.

"We had just been on a bike ride"

They had just been on a bike ride and stopped in a pub for some food.

"You miss her terribly, don't you?"

Tegwen can tell that he misses her terribly.

"It wasn't just her that died that day"

“It’s strange because it wasn’t just her that died that day, but everything we’d been planning together,” he says,

"Right, I'd better go"

and suddenly Tegwen seems to be in a hurry to go, alleging that she does not want to take advantage of her sister.

"I've really enjoyed myself"

She says that she has really enjoyed herself and leaves the flat.

She almost collides with Gabriel's pram

Dani is walking along the High Street, pushing the pram, when Tegwen almost bumps into her, being preoccupied with her phone.

"A new friend?"

Mathew also comes out of the shop flat, and Dani asks if she knows that girl;  “A new friend?” she suggests.

"I was hoping she'd be more than that"

Mathew had been hoping she would be more than that;  “I invited her over for lunch as a date, and I thought things were going really well.   She’s got an eight year old son, and has been going on about how careful she has to be with new relationships.”

"That doesn't mean she doesn't want a relationship"

Dani says that makes sense;  “But it doesn’t mean that she doesn’t want a relationship – just tell her how you feel.   Just ask her what she wants – at least you’ll know.   I’m sure she’s having the same chat with her friends –

"Go, Mathew!"

“go, Mathew!”   He hurries up the street in pursuit of Tegwen.

Colin picks up the meal from the doorstep . . .

Colin comes out of the door of Hywel’s house and picks up the meal which has been left on the doorstep by Dani;

. . . while Dani walks on

she continues on her way.

"I gave you the wrong impression"

Mathew comes round the corner by the bus stop and finds Tegwen, who is still on the phone.   “Listen, I’m worried that I’ve given you the wrong impression about me and . . . the truth is, of course I loved Izzy – I always will.”

"It's not long since she died"

Tegwen appreciates that it is not long since she died;

"I really, really like you"

he goes on, “But, I like you – I really, really like you – and I understand that you’re busy and you’re a single mother, and you might not have the time to give me.   I just didn’t want you to get the wrong impression.”

"No – I gave you the wrong impression"

She confesses that it was she who gave him the wrong impression;  “I’m very protective of Ken, and you’re right, my life is busy – but not too busy to see you, if you want.”

"Of course that's what I want!"

He replies that of course that is what he wants, and she proposes that they could start now, as she has organised with her sister for Ken to stay there.

"Don't get any ideas!"

However, she warns, “But don’t get any ideas, just because I haven’t had sex for two years!”

"The thought never crossed my mind"

He says the thought never crossed his mind and they head back towards the shop flat, hand in hand.

Gaynor goes back to APD

Gaynor walks into APD,

"Come to steal something else?"

and Tyler comments, “Ah, you’ve come to steal something else, have you?”

"You're determined to proceed with this?"

“You’re determined to proceed with this, are you?” she demands, and he replies that he wants everyone to know what she did to him.   “But to do it so publicly and put a video online?” she wonders.

"I'm going to the Western Post"

“OK, well, I’ve decided to respond in a public way as well.   I’m going to the Western Post – not Kelly – someone else, and I’m going to offer them my story.   How a successful head teacher can sink so low and be arrested for stealing a drill.”

"It's something to do in your cell"

Tyler remarks, “Well, it’s something to do in your cell – writing your memoirs.”

"A big aspect will be your part in all this"

She continues, “Of course, a big aspect of my story will be your part in all of this – your desire for revenge because he were sacked by the school for grooming a pupil.”

"That's libel, Gaynor"

Tyler sneers that threat is libellous,

"Not if it's true!"

but she replies, “Not if it’s true!   And I’m going to make sure every dirty little detail of that story is dragged into mine.”

"I think you'd better go"

Tyler tells her to go, and she wonders if he is going to drop the charges;

Tyler is forced to back down

“All right,” he agrees,

"And you must take the video down"

and she also demands that he takes the video down.

“That won’t make any difference – it’s already been shared – ask Hywel.   I can’t get rid of it now.

"What guarantees am I getting?"

“And what guarantees am I getting that you won’t do the story?

"None – you'll just have to trust me"

“You don’t have a guarantee – you’ll have to trust me,” she comments as she leaves the shop.

This does not please Tyler one little bit

Tyler is looking worried now.
