Colin walks across the road

Colin walks across the road towards the Deri where he meets Mathew, and says, “I’m just clearing my head.”

"It's horrific, losing your home like that"

Mathew appreciates that he has a lot on with the fire and everything;  “It’s horrific, losing your home like that.”   

"Sorry I was talking non-stop"

Colin enjoyed meeting Tegwen, and apologises for talking non-stop.   Mathew is glad that he has met her, and now must go for a breakfast meeting.

"Mathew, I am pleased for you"

“Mathew, I am pleased for you,” says Colin, “Izzy would want you to be happy,” 

"Thanks  – that means a lot, Col"

and Mathew replies that means a lot.

Gaynor is looking at the laptop

At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor is looking at the laptop and making some notes when Hywel comes in, 

Rather dodgy kitchen cabinets

opens a kitchen cupboard door and it comes off in his hand.   “We need someone to look at this door – it’s getting on my nerves!” he complains, “I can’t believe it’s broken already.”

"Do you want to talk to someone?"

He has a look to see what she is doing and comments, “Welsh counselling services?   Do you want to talk to someone?”   

"I'm considering doing a course"

She replies that she is considering doing a course, and he is rather scathing about this;  “You, a counsellor?”

“Why not?   I’ve had a lot of challenging experiences in my life – surely that could help in the job,” she replies.   

"You're not the most empathetic at times"

He points out that she is not the most empathetic at times, and she sarcastically thanks him for his support.

“I’m not criticising, but you’ve got other skills – more practical ones,” he goes on, “Anyway, I didn’t realise you were looking for a job.”   She grumbles that she is not ready to retire, and he is so busy with the council.

"I can ask if they've got a job going"

He has a meeting with a councillor later who owns a big insurance company;  “We’re going to talk about those flats – I can ask if they’ve got a job going.”   Gaynor turns up her nose at selling insurance, but he is sure there are other departments in the business.   She unenthusiastically says that it may be worth asking.

"We'll be in the Deri at lunchtime"

“We’ll be in the Deri at lunchtime, if you fancy coming over,” Hywel tells her, but she would prefer Hywel to ask him and see what he says.   Hywel has some paperwork he needs to look over first, and tells her to phone Mathew about that door.   

Gaynor gives up on the counselling idea

She takes the page of notes that she has been writing and screws up the sheet of paper.

Britt's order has arrived

Colin opens a box which has been delivered and Britt excitedly realises that what she has ordered has arrived;  “Aromatherapy stuff to help me relax,” 

Colin does not like orange blossom

but he finds the smell of orange blossom rather repulsive.   

"£195?"

When he sees the accompanying invoice for £195, he is angry, 

"I did get a 20% discount"

but she simply announces that she got a 20% discount.   “Pure oil is expensive, but they work, Col, the synthetic stuff is good for nothing.”

"This candle cost forty quid!"

He realises one of the candles costs £40, and she points out that they have been through a lot;  they need little things like these to keep them going, and invites him to try it tonight.   “A warm bath, OK?   Lavender oil, a scented candle – you’ll sleep like a baby.”

"A baby who's worried about how to pay the bills!"

“A baby who’s worried about how to pay the bills!” Colin snarls, but she simply sniggers that they deserve a treat.   

"Burning money won't help anyone!"

“Burning money like this, literally, won’t help anyone!” he insists.

"I was trying too do something nice, Col"

She protests that she was trying to do something nice, 

"Well, stop trying, then!"

and her orders her to stop trying.   

"You're blaming me"

“You’re blaming me, I know!” Britt shouts, and he tries to calmly point out that she needs to stop spending money like this – that is all he is asking.   

Aaron is listening all this

As he goes into the kitchen we see that Aaron is standing at the foot of the stairs.

APD's breakfast meeting

Jason, Tyler and Mathew come out of the Deri with their coffees;  

"How about mid-January to mid-February?"

Jason is looking at his phone and suggests, “How about mid-January to mid-February?   How does that sound?”   Mathew answers that they may well be busy, as people spend money during the sales.

On the other hand, Tyler reminds them that it is the best time to go to Australia and to avoid the weather at home.   Jason is hesitant, 

"You can't miss out on a trip to Australia, can you?"

but Mathew encourages him to go, and they will find someone to cover;  “You can’t miss out on a trip to Australia, can you?”

Jason seems strangely unenthusiastic, grumbling, “It’s going to cost thousands – as well as all the bonuses I’m going to miss out on – oh, me and my big mouth!   I want to go, but not until I can afford to do it properly.   Kelly’s dying to go!”

Mathew suggest they could go the following year, 

"I don't want to disappoint Kelly"

but Jason does not want to disappoint Kelly, as they are in a really good place at the moment.   They have to go back to work now, as Mrs Harries wants to talk about her quote.

Brynmor approaches

Then Brynmor comes round the corner by the medical centre;  

"I've been hearing a lot about you lately"

“I’ve been hearing a lot about you lately,” says Mathew, “I know someone who knows you, that’s all – Tegwen – Brynawelon?”

"I don't recall a Tegwen"

Brynmor puts on a puzzled look;  “I can’t recall anyone by that name,” he replies, and Mathew elaborates that she is short, blonde and pretty, and says that she has known Brynmor for years.

"Oh – you mean Tegwen!"

“Ah, Tegwen!” he exclaims, “No, we don’t know each other well,” 

"She has a lot of stories about you"

but Mathew says she has a lot of stories about him, then his phone sounds and he walks away, advising Mrs Harries that he is on his way over.   Brynmor is looking concerned.

Gaynor finds APD locked up (but with a wheelbarrow outside)

Gaynor finds that APD is locked up, and is informing Hywel on her phone, “I thought of trying to do it myself, but I don’t think APD is open yet.   

"Another day on the sofa for me!"

“Oh well, there we go – another day on the sofa for me!   Enjoy your meeting – see you later.”

Colin is having problems

Colin is wrestling with the laptop 

"She was like this before the tablets"

as Aaron muses, “I don’t know what’s happened – she was like this before the tablets.”   

Colin presumes that her medication needs looking at;  he will make a doctor’s appointment.

“She’s still taking them, is she?” Aaron asks, and Colin believes so, as he discovers that a website will not accept the password.   

He searches Britt's handbag . . . 

Meanwhile Aaron searches in his mother’s handbag;  “Is this where she keeps her tablets?” and this is confirmed by Colin, 

. . . but it contains no tablets

but there is nothing there.

"They're bound to be somewhere else"

“They’re bound to be somewhere else,” says Colin, but Aaron is of the opinion that perhaps she is not taking them, 

"That would explain a lot"

as it would explain a lot.

Hywel is chatting up a woman . . .

In the Deri, Hywel is talking to a woman;  “So you actually develop software and install it?” she asks, 

. . . who is dissatisfied with her software company

“We’ve been using this company from Cardiff, but I feel they’ve grown too big and impersonal since their son took over.”

He would be pleased to organise a meeting if she wants, and she seems eager to switch to another company.   

"I am the company"

He makes it quite clear, “I am the company – please understand that – but I’ve worked with a lot of big businesses and you’re welcome to talk to them.”   We can see that Geraint is back at work today and is busy clearing tables.

"You sound exactly what I'm looking for"

The woman says that Hywel sounds exactly like what she is looking for, and at that moment Gaynor comes in, looking suspicious.   

"Gaynor, this is Nerys"

Hywel introduces her to Nerys, 

"Stop me from interrogating Hywel"

who invites her to join them, and to stop her interrogating Hywel.   

It appears they know a lot of the same people;  “My Mam used to teach at Ysgol y Mynach at the same time as Hywel – she was obviously much older.”   

"I'm going to Carmarthen"

Gaynor declines the offer to join them, giving the excuse that she is going to Carmarthen to do some shopping.

"Hywel is trying to get me drunk"

“It must be lovely to do what you want, when you want,” Nerys comments, and maintains that Hywel is trying to get her drunk so she will agree about the flats, which seems to be working.   Gaynor leaves the Deri, 

"How about another bottle?"

and Hywel suggests getting another bottle.

"Jase!"

Kelly comes into APD, shouting, “Jase!” and is informed by Tyler that he is out on a job;  

"I heard you're off to Australia"

he has heard that Kelly is off to Australia, and she sighs, “Tell me, is he excited?   

"Paying loads of money to spend a month with with D&D!"

“Imagine flying all that way, paying loads of money, to spend a month with Dai and Diane.”

Tyler realises that she does not want to go, and she makes it clear that she does not, under those circumstances.   

"Jason thinks you're really keen"

“Jason thinks you’re really keen – he’s worried about the cost,” Tyler goes on, 

"Does he now?"

and she is really grateful for the information, handing him one of the cups of coffee.   

"I wasn't trying to poke my nose in"

He stresses that he was not trying to poke his nose in, 

"I owe you – big time!"

but she regards him as a lifesaver;  “I owe you – big time!”

Gaynor's DIY efforts . . .

Gaynor is at work in the kitchen and appears to have removed, 

. . . do not seem to be going to plan . . .

or partially removed, several of the cupboard doors, 

. . . ad she is getting tearful

but now she is becoming frustrated.   She is reduced to tears.

"I was trying to check the credit card balance"

Britt is taking out the various aromatherapy items from the box when Colin begins, “I was trying to check the balance on our credit card earlier – have you changed the password?”   

Britt denies all knowledge 

She denies that she has done that and he continues, “I couldn’t log in – we haven’t changed the password for at least two years.”

"I think I'll go for a walk"

Britt replies that they do not need to worry about that now, and instead fancies going out for a walk and then a drink in the Deri.   

"I want to sort the out first"

Colin wants to sort this out first, and informs her, “I know about the card – that the bank’s blocked it – I rang them.   What’s going on?”

"Landing us in one mess after another!"

Aaron adds, “Answer him!   Why do you keep on landing us in one mess after another?”   

"I forgot to pay the minimum payment"

She comes up with the weak excuse that she forgot to pay the minimum payment a couple of times.   

"Are you taking your meds?"

“Are you taking your meds?” is the next question, and she says that they are upstairs;  she apologises to Colin about the card, 

but Aaron snarls, “Don’t change the subject!”

"You acting exactly like before the medication"

Colin points out that they are concerned about her;  “You’re acting exactly how you were before the medication.”   Aaron wants her to go and fetch her tablets, so they know she is still taking them.   

Britt looks frightened

She looks frightened, 

"Are you still taking the tablets?"

and Colin demands whether or not she is still taking them.

"Er . . . no"

She confesses that she is not;  

"We might have lost everything because of you!"

Aaron sighs, “Oh, Mam, what’s wrong with you?   We’re all trying to help you, and all you had to do was swallow a few tablets every day.   Now we might have lost everything because you’re selfish!”

"That's enough, Aaron"

Colin reprimands him that he has said enough, 

"I can't stand to look at her"

and Aaron is going out;  “I can’t stand to look at her.”   

Britt is indeed a pathetic sight

Britt breaks down and cries.

"I want to change the kitchen cabinet doors"

Gaynor visits APD and tells Tyler that she wants to change the kitchen cabinet doors;  

Coincidentally, Tyler has just the thing

he points out some samples by the counter, and is going to fetch some catalogues for her.   

Gaynor finds nice cordless drill . . .

We see the view from the CCTV camera, as she looks around and takes a fancy to a cordless electric drill.   She picks it up, looks up at the security camera, 

. . . and places it in her bag

secretes the drill in her bag and quickly walks out of the shop.   

Tyler finds that she has gone

When Tyler returns, he finds she is no longer there.

Colin brings a cup of tea

Britt is still looking sorry for herself as Colin brings her a cup of tea;  

"He was right, wasn't he?"

she groans, “He was right, wasn’t he?   All I had to do was take a couple of tablets.”   

"Why did you stop taking them?"

Colin cannot understand why she stopped taking them.   

"I began to think I didn't need them"

“When I was in Portugal, I felt all right, so I began to think I didn’t need them,” she says.

"You felt all right because of the tablets"

Colin emphasises that she must have realised she felt all right because of the tablets.   

"I wanted to know if I could cope without them"

“A part of me wanted to know if I could cope without them,” she replies, “I don’t want to be on tablets for the rest of my life – would you?”   

He admits that, in a perfect world he would not, 

"They keep you balanced, don't they?"

“But if I knew that the drugs were making me better, then I would.   Look, think about your life over the past couple of months, and compare it with how you felt before you went out to Portugal.   Those tablets, they keep you balanced, don’t they?”

"I hate taking them, Col"

She protests that she hates taking them, and she hates the fact that she cannot cope without them;  “That I’m such a failure!”   Colin insists that she is not a failure;  

"You haven't chosen to be like this"

she has not chosen this condition, 

"Why are you being so nice to me?"

and she wonders why he is being so nice to her when she does not deserve it.

"Because I love you, and want you to be OK"

“Because I love you – and I want you to be OK,” he says, “I want us all to be OK.”   She realises that this means she has to go back on the tablets, and he agrees that it does;  “Perhaps that is something you should consider.   

"Why don't; you have a warm bath?"

“Look, why don’t you have a warm bath and use some of those new oils?   Then we’ll have a chat another time, when you’re ready.”

Kelly prepares dinner

Kelly is chopping up a courgette 

"Let me do that, Kelly"

when Jason says that he will do that, and she can pour the wine;  “OK, I think it’s an Australian Shiraz,” she tells him, “You know what, right?   

"I can hardly contain myself!"

“I can’t wait to go to Australia!   I can hardly contain myself!”

"Yes, about that, Kelly"

He stops in mid slice;  “Yes, about that,” 

"Don't dangle the dream and then take it away"

and she warns him not to dangle the dream and then take it away.   

"We wants to enjoy Australia, don't we?"

“The thing is, we want to enjoy Australia, don’t we?” he continues.

“Yeah, I want to do it all – skydiving, surfing, climb Sydney Harbour Bridge – everything!” she rather excessively answers.   He points out that all those things she mentioned are things that Mam and Dai will not be able to do.   

"You mean that Dai can't surf?"

Surprised, she asks, “You mean that Dai can’t surf?”

Jason goes on, “Anyway, as I said, we want to enjoy Australia – to do all those things you mentioned.   

"Just postpone it until we can afford it"

“Doesn’t it makes sense to wait until we’ve saved a bit of money?   Not to cancel the trip – just to postpone it, until we can afford to do it properly.”

"If that's what you think is best"

“OK, if that’s what you think is best,” Kelly tells him.

Gaynor studies her latest 'trophy'

Gaynor is sitting at Llwyncelyn, looking at the drill she has purloined, when Hywel returns home.   

"What on earth?"

“What on earth?” he exclaims when he sees the state of the kitchen.   Gaynor tells him she wants to change the cabinet doors.

"Only one door needed repairing!"

“Only one door needed repairing – we’ve only just got them!” he protests, 

"I just didn't like then"

but she just did not like them and has decided to change them.

"Perhaps you'd like to change me, too"

“Perhaps you’d like to change me, too,” she adds, taking another drink of wine, 

"How much have you been drinking?"

and he wonders how much she has drunk.   

"That woman in the Deri"

“That woman you met in the Deri – you said she was a man,” she complains, but he points out that she made the assumption.

A visit from the constabulary

There is a knock at the door, and when Hywel answers it, he finds a police officer;  “Gaynor Llywelyn?” the PC asks, 

"Can you come down to the station with me?"

“Can you come down to the station with me?”
