Val is back

A car arrives outside Cysgod y Glyn and Val, Ffion’s mother gets out;  

She looks up to Cysgod y Glyn

she looks up at the flat window 

"Is that pig Cai with you?"

and shouts, “Ffion, I know you’re in there!   Is that pig Cai with you as well?”

As there is no response, she hammers repeatedly on the door, 

Already people are starting to take an interest

and her behaviour is beginning to attract the attention of passers-by.   

Ffion looks out . . .

Inside, Ffion looks through the window and makes a quick phone call as the shouting outside continues.   

. . . and attempts to contact Cai

However there is no reply and she mutters, “Where are you, Cai?”

"If I can't find a wedding dress . . ."

At Maes-y-Deri, Kath is complaining, “Do you know what?   If I can’t find a wedding dress, I’ll have to turn up naked – 

". . . don't say anything!"

“don’t say anything!   Don’t say you’ll take me to Swansea to go shopping because I’m not paying a fortune in some bloomin’ boutique!”

As Brynmor remains silent, she continues, “And Stacey can’t come – 

"It's turning into a shambles, isn't it?"

“it’s turning into a shambles, isn’t it?   Say something!”

"This is my fault, Kath"

He points out that this is his fault;  “I was so keen to book it, I didn’t think about anyone else.”   

"I just want everything to be perfect"

Kath admits that she cannot wait either, but just wants everything to be perfect.   

"And it will be  – you just have to be positive"

He promises that it will be and that she needs to be positive.

"It will be special and no-one will stop us!"

“Yes, you’re right – because this is for us – we’ll have a party for those who can’t come, but the day itself will be special for us, and no-one will stop us!” she asserts.

"Crisis?   What crisis?"

Brynmor says that is one of the reasons he wants to marry her;  “Crisis – what crisis?”

"Cai's too much of a coward to come down, is he?"

By the time Ffion opens the front door, Val is taking out black sacks from her car;  “Cai’s too much of a coward to come down, is he?” Val snarls, flinging down the first of the bags on the pavement.

"It's nothing to do with you!"

Ffion points out that he is not there;  “And it’s nothing to do with you!”   By now, several people are gathering to watch the spectacle.

"Sleeping with your brother-in-law!"

“Explain the phone call I received from your sister in tears last night then!” Val yells,  “Sleeping with your brother-in-law, Ffion – what’s wrong with you?”   

Ffion urges her to keep her voice down, but this has the opposite effect;  “Why?   Because you and Cai are having an affair?” and Val throws down another bag of Cai’s belongings, 

"Out of my way, before I do something I regret!"

warning, “Out of my way, before I do something I regret!”   Ffion is at her wits’ end.

"Ready for your hot date?"

Matthew is preparing for his meeting with Tegwen, and Rhys wolf-whistles at him;  “Ooh – ready for your hot date?” he says, “I’m just checking to make sure you still remember how to do things.   You don’t look bad, fair play – when am I going to meet this Tegwen, then?”

Mathew answers, “Never!   I know what you’re like, you pig!   

"I'm not sure if I can do this"

“Rhys, I’m not sure if I can do this.”

Rhys advises that he should be himself, 

"Two rounds of flaming Sambucas!"

“And if that doesn’t melt her heart, two rounds of flaming Sambucas always works for me – just enjoy yourself, Math.”

Now Val is emptying Cai's belongings

Val is now resorting to emptying the black bags on the pavement 

"Come into the house"

and Ffion demands that she stops this behaviour and come into the house.   “No – I don’t want to go near where are you two have been frolicking!” is her angry retort. 

Cai is hurrying along the back street towards the scene of this altercation and demands what is going on.   

"Here he is, the pig!"

We see that Siôn and Eileen have joined the onlookers as Val greets him with, “Here he is, the pig!   How could you?”

"It's not true, Val"

Cai does not know what she has heard, but insists that it is not true;  “Nesta knows about you and her,” he is informed, “Wouldn’t you love to know who told her?   You know it’s not the first time, don’t you?   

"You're one of a dozen he's been with"

“You’re one of a dozen he’s been with over the years.   Oh yes, she’s seen all the messages on that Facebook page you created for yourself.   A word of advice, Cai, if you’re going to cheat make sure you close the app first!   

"Nesta wants a divorce!"

And I’ve got a message for you from Nesta – she wants a divorce!”   Then she turns her ire on Ffion;  “Nesta and I never want to see you again!   I hope you’ve got a good solicitor!”   

Val makes her exit . . .

With that she gets back into the car;  Cai and Ffion look at each other as she drives away.

. . . as all the locals watch the proceedings

Ffion goes into the house, while Cai turns to see the gathering that has been witnessing this;  

Cai picks up his clothes

he sets about recovering his scattered clothes.

Brynmor comes out of the alley . . .

Brynmor emerges from the alley and sees Andrea outside the shop;  

. . . and has a favour to ask of Andrea

“I’m glad I’ve caught you – I wanted to ask a favour.   Kath isn’t having much luck finding something to wear for the wedding and I thought you could help her.”

"I'll do more than that"

“I can do more than that – I’ll pop over later,” she assures him.   

Then Tegwen spots Brynmor

Then as he walks on past the boarded-up chip shop, someone calls his name.   It is Tegwen;  who says that they miss him at Brynawelon [the old people’s home].

"The nights aren't the same without you"

“The nights aren’t the same without you,” she says, and he replies that was a long time ago.   “Have you got something going on around here?” she wants to know, 

"I'm sure you could make a penny or two"

“I’m sure you could make a penny or two.”

"I don't do that any more"

He maintains that he does not do that any more, and she presumes that he is keeping things low-key; 

"Don't want to show your cards too early"

 “You don’t want to show your cards too early – I understand completely.   It’s lovely to see you – I might see you again now I know you live around here.   

"If you want a partner in crime . . ."

“And remember, if you want a partner in crime, I still have the skills, yeah?”

"Now I know why Ffion was so eager"

Eileen walks across to Cai as the crowd disperses;  “Now I know why Ffion was so eager for you to get the job.”   

"It's nothing too do with you, Eileen"

Cai tell her to mind her own business, as it is nothing to do with her.   

"If you carry on like this, you won't have a job!"

“I’m one of the governors, and if you carry on like this, good boy,  you won’t have a job!   I'm more than happy to withdraw the offer.”

"Is that wise, Eileen?"

Siôn intervenes to question whether that is wise;  “You’re not excusing what Cai has done, are you?” Eileen demands, but is told that what he does in private is nothing to do with his job.

“How would you justify withdrawing the offer to the other governors?” Siôn asks, 

"I just say he's having an affair with the head"

and Eileen would simply point out that he is having an affair with the head teacher.   

"We're not having an affair!"

Cai once again growls that they are not having an affair, and she laughs.   

"The last thing the school needs is another scandal"

“The last thing the school needs now is another scandal,” Siôn goes on, “It might be wise to leave things be.”

“You gave the impression you were a happy family man,” snarls Eileen, “And I can see now that it was all lies.   

"If you do anything else . . ."

“I’m willing not to not say anything for now – but if you do anything else . . .”   

Siôn thanks her for her change of mind and she walks away; 

"You've got some explaining to do, good boy!"

he confronts Cai and informs him, “You’ve got some explaining to do, good boy.”

Dylan makes a call from his cell . . .

The scene shifts to Dylan’s prison cell;  he picks up his mobile phone and makes a call.   

. . . which Jaclyn is reluctant to answer

Jaclyn, sitting at home, discovers who is calling and looks concerned as she answers.

“Hiya, it’s me.   I’m just phoning to see how things are – do you want to know how I am?   I’ll tell you – I’m all right.   I've got a nice cell, three square meals – the only thing I have to worry about is someone stabbing me in the back – 

"But you know all about that"

“but you know all about that.   Don’t you have anything to say?”

"I'm leaving Cwmderi"

Jaclyn informs him, “I’m leaving Cwmderi,” and he remarks that it must be nice to be able to do whatever she wants.   “I want to start over – a long way from here – a long way from everything – and I don’t want this court case hanging over me, right?   So you have to plead guilty.”

"No way!   You drop the charges"

He is adamant there is no way he will plead guilty;  “I’ve got a better idea – if you drop the charges, neither of us will have to go to court.   What do you think?”

"You left me to die!"

After a pause, Jaclyn tells him, “Do you really think I’d drop the charges after everything you’ve done?”   He replies that is not what he wants, and she goes on, “You left me to die!”   

Dylan comes up with a sob story

His excuse is that he panicked and really regrets what happened;  “I have the same nightmare every night,” he alleges, “I try not to pull the trigger, but the gun goes off, whatever I do.”   

"Your conscience pricking, is it?"

She regards that as his conscience pricking, perhaps, and he goes on that he has not been sleeping for months.   “Please, Jacs, you will have to drop the charges, “so that things can go back to the way they were between us, we’re flesh and blood.”

"I'm happy to see you rot in a cell!"

She points out very clearly, “I’m happy to see you rot in a cell for the rest of your life!” and he remarks that it was worth trying.

"I'll give you £20,000"

Then he adopts another tack;  “Drop the charge against me and I’ll give you £20,000 – you don’t have to answer now – have a think.   You know where I am.”   He terminates the call;  

Jaclyn pushes the phone across the table

Jaclyn pushes the phone across the table and it falls to the floor.

"Sorry I'm late"

Mathew is sitting outside the Deri, studying his phone when Tegwen hurries across, apologising for being late.   

"Let's get the boring things out of the way"

“Let’s get the boring things out of the way – I know your name, you know my name, and I know you work at APD,” she begins.   

"I actually own APD – well, most of it"

He informs her that actually he owns APD, well, most of it.

She cleans on Mondays and Wednesdays and is at Brynawelon the rest of the week.   

"Do you clean there as well?"

When he assumes that she cleans there as well, she gasps, “Have you seen the size of the place?   No, I do a bit of care work – I keep the residents company – play games, read, that sort of thing.   

Tegwen leads a very busy life

“If I have time I do a couple of shifts in the Glyndwr, and I look after my sister’s kids at the weekend.”

Then she jokes, “I can only stay half an hour, because I said I’d do a shift at the garage in Llanarthur!” 

Mathew is taken in by her joke

but Mathew does not realise that it is a joke.   

"Time for a drink, I think"

She thinks that now it is time for a drink, and tells him he can get the first one;  

"It's a bit chilly here"

“We’ll go inside – it’s a bit chilly here.”

Colin is approaching . . .

Colin is approaching along the street 

. . . and watches them go into the Deri

and notices them going into the Deri.

Andrea pays Kath a visit

A visitor arrives at Maes-y-Deri in the form of Andrea;  

"Sorry, Mark's not here"

“Sorry, Mark’s not here, if that’s who you’re after,” says Kath, 

"I've come to see you . . ."

but is told that Andrea has come to see her.

". . . what if I made your wedding dress?"

“I think I can help you – what if I made your wedding dress?”

Colin is staring

Colin is sitting at the bar in the Deri, where Craig is again on duty;  Tegwen wonders, “Why is that guy at the bar looking at us?” 

"Oi!   If you want selfie, just ask!"

and she shouts, “Oi!   If you want a selfie, just ask, all right?” 

She tells Mathew that it must be a weirdo, but he explains that he knows the man, 

Mathew beckons Colin

and calls Colin across.   

"Goodness, I didn't see you there"

“Goodness, I didn’t see you there,” Colin maintains, and Tegwen introduces himself, mentioning that he was acting rather oddly.

"Well, that's what I'm like"

“Well, that’s what I’m like,” Colin admits, 

"Did you want something, Colin?"

and Mathew asks if he wanted anything;  “I’ll take a pint of cider if you’re offering,” Colin replies, then realises that is not what was meant, and makes himself scarce.

"Do you want to explain what just happened?"

“Do you want to explain what just happened?” asks Tegwen, and is informed that Colin is the father of his ex, Izzy, who died last year.   

"Izzy had long term QT syndrome"

He adds that she had long-term QT syndrome, affecting the heart.   “I remember her,” says Tegwen, “She was a little older than me at school – the daughter of Mrs Llywelyn.   

"I'm a good listener"

“Well, if you want to talk about it, I’m a good listener.”

"I want to enjoy tonight"

Mathew insists that they are out tonight and he wants to enjoy it;  she challenges him to arm wrestling to see who gets the next drink.   

Tegwen is very good at arm wrestling

He discovers that she is much stronger than she looks.

Cai is depressed

Cai is sitting, looking depressed, at Y Felin;  he picks up his phone and dials a number, but there is no reply.   He repeats the exercise, with the same result.

"It's still early"

As they leave the Deri, Mathew asks if Tegwen has to leave now, arguing that it is still early;  “I don’t want to miss the last bus,” she tells him.   He proposes that they could have one quick drink somewhere and he will pay for the taxi.

"I don't want to take advantage"

“I know you’ve got your own business, but I don’t want to take advantage – I’ve got a return ticket anyway,” she replies.   

"Will we be doing this again?"

He wonders if they will be doing this again, 

"It depends whether you ask me"

and she says that it depends whether he asks her or not.

"Would you like to go out again?"

“OK, would you like to go out again some time?” he enquires, and she says that she would love to.   He suggests that they could go out for a meal somewhere, 

"You could cook for us instead"

but Tegwen suggests that he could cook for them instead.

“I need to see if you know your way around a kitchen, if we’re taking things further,” she goes on, 

"There's a chance things will go further?"

and he is pleased that there is a chance things will go further.   “It depends on your cooking,” she says, “I hope it’s better than your arm wrestling!”   Mathew will wait with her until the bus arrives, 

She gives him a kiss . . .

and she kisses him.   

. . . and they wait at the bus stop

They go across and sit at the bus shelter.

"Running away, is it?"

Cai is packing his belongings into a bag, and Siôn comments, “Running away, is it?   Did you really think you wouldn’t get caught?”   Cai maintains that it was just a mistake and that he wants to sort things out with Nesta.

"Do you think she'll take you back?"

“Do you think she’ll take you back, after what you’ve done?” Siôn demands, “I feel for them – her and the children – having someone like you as a husband and father.”

"I love my children, Siôn"

Cai argues that he loves his children, and Siôn goes on, “I’m just glad Gwen’s not here to see the mess you’ve made of your life!”

"What would Gwen say about you?"

Cai answers, “What about you, Siôn?   What would Gwen say about what you’ve done with your life?   She wouldn’t know you – you’ve turned your back on the chapel, on your community, you’re out drinking in gay clubs with your son — and you shacked up with someone who was young enough to be your daughter!”

"What's going on?"

Iolo walks in and wants to know what all the shouting is about;  Cai says that he is going back up north.   Iolo demands to know why, and Siôn asks, “Do you want me to tell him?   

"Uncle Cai has been having al affair with Ffion  Llywelyn"

“Your uncle Cai has been having an affair with Ffion Llywelyn – and now he’s going back up north to save what is left of his marriage!”

"I didn't want to hurt anyone"

Cai maintains that he did not want to hurt anyone, picks up his two bags and marches out of the house.    

Siôn shakes hos head

Siôn shakes his head in disbelief, 

"Will he be coming back?"

and in answer to Iolo’s question, does not know whether he will be coming back.

"He's not welcome here ever again!"

“But I’ll tell you this – he’s not welcome here ever again!” declares Siôn.
