| Eileen turns off the radio |
In the kitchen at Penrhewl, Eileen is surrounded by hampers, and is reprimanded by Sioned for turning off the radio, as she liked the song that was playing;

| "Jim liked that one" |
Eileen replies that Jim also liked it.
 |
| "We'll make sure this Christmas is special, Mam" |
“We’ll make sure this Christmas is special,” Sioned tells her, but Eileen says she is looking forward to a quiet day, although they have a lot of work to do.
 |
| "I can help until four o'clock" |
Then Sioned advises that she can help until four o’clock, but has to go after that. “You promised to help me!” her mother protests, but Sioned has made plans.
 |
| "Night on the pop, is it?" |
“So a night on the pop is more important than the business, is it?” Eileen demands, “And you’ll be useless tomorrow!”
Sioned explains to her that it is only one night,
 |
| "Right, go out with your friends, then" |
and is told, “Right, go out with your friends, if that’s how you want this ‘special’ Christmas to start!”
 |
| "I'm going out with my boyfriend" |
Sioned says that, on the contrary, she is going out with her boyfriend, which comes as a surprise to her mother.
“It’s early days, but I’m really happy,” Sioned continues, and of course Eileen wants to know who it is;

| "It's DJ – I adore him"" |
“DJ,” Sioned smiles, and Eileen is even more surprised. “It’s only been a couple of weeks, and we’ve kept it quiet because we want to make sure we’re compatible – I adore him!”
 |
| "DJ's lovely" |
Her mother is pleased to see her so happy, and describes DJ as lovely.
 |
| "Our first little holiday" |
“We’re just having a night away in a hotel – our first little holiday,” giggles Sioned, so she is told that she had better get packing, then, regarding it as more important than the hampers.
 |
| Eileen seems to be having second thoughts |
However, when Sioned leaves the room, her mother looks rather deflated.
 |
| "I've got a surprise for you, Britt" |
In the chippy flat, Colin announces that he has a surprise for Britt;

| "Don't tell me – you've found a mechanic" |
“Don’t tell me – you’ve found a mechanic who gets a kick out of changing exhausts and doing VAT returns,” she moans. Colin does not think such persons exist,
 |
| "I've found the perfect Christmas tree!" |
but what does exist is the perfect Christmas tree, which he has found.
 |
| "We've already got one" |
She grumbles that they already have a tree, and it has been put up already; “We have the same one every year.”
 |
| "This is a real one, not plastic" |
He emphasises that it is a real one, not plastic; “That one doesn’t smell of Christmas – it doesn’t have the same festive spirit – Cliff Richard wouldn’t sing next to a plastic one!”
Britt does not care, and insists she is not wasting a penny on a tree that will end up halfway up her Hoover after a couple of days, when theirs is good enough. Even when Colin says that he will pay for it,

| "Nothing goes right when Garry's not here!" |
she still complains, “I’m not celebrating anyway – nothing goes right when Garry’s not here.” Colin realises that he will not get anywhere and leaves the room.

| Dani is not happy |
In the Deri flat, Tyler is making some lunch when Dani returns from her shopping trip, carrying several bags. She says that she has not had a good day;

| "The dolly Seren really wants is sold out" |
“I bought everything I saw to make up for the fact that the dolly Seren really wants is sold out!”
 |
| "I thought all dolls were the same" |
Aled, who is also there, thought that all dolls were the same,
 |
| Dani describes the rather strange doll |
but is corrected, “No – she’s got blue hair, she sings and every little girl wants one! And every other girl will get one, because they have better mothers!”
 |
| "You've got a lot on your plate, Dan" |
Tyler reminds her that she has a lot on her plate, and she shouts, “Yes – but that’s not the children’s fault. I’m not going to let them miss out
 |
| "Because their father can't keep his pants on!" |
“because their father can’t keep his pants on!” Aled is very sympathetic and thinks they should do something to help.
 |
| "We just have to be there for Dani" |
Tyler answers that they should just be there for Dani and make sure she and the kids enjoy Christmas.
 |
| Cassie's unconventional tradition |
At number 9, Cassie tells Lisa, “What I like to do is take a box of Quality Street to bed with me on Christmas Eve – then it’s ready for me on Christmas morning.” Lisa regards that as a rather strange Christmas tradition, and at that moment there is the clinking of bottles as Mark comes in through the back door, carrying a box.

| "There's enough booze to last until next year" |
“I’ve got a surprise for you two!” he announces, “There’s enough booze here to last until next year. I want to make sure it’s a Christmas to remember – or forget!”

| "You're going to be here over Christmas?" |
Cassie is not enamoured by the prospect of Mark being there over Christmas; he wonders where else he would be,

| Lisa appears amused |
and predicts that they will have fun.
 |
| "We should feel festive at this time of year" |
In the café, as Siôn applies sanitiser to his hands, he tells Kelly, “We should feel festive at this time of year, but do you know what I feel? Nothing!” She does not know why he is bothered,

| "I thought you were an atheist now, Siôn" |
and was under the impression he was an atheist now. He explains, “There’s more to Christmas than the narrative Christians celebrate. It’s about people coming together to spread love, help our neighbour.”

| "You agree, don't you, Hywel?" |
Hywel comes in, and Siôn is sure that that he will share that opinion,
 |
| Hywel is only interested in a Tuna Baguette |
but Hywel simply wants a tuna baguette.
 |
| "Carol singing – that's what this village needs!" |
“A night of carol singing – that’s what this village needs – a bit of festive spirit!” Siôn adds.
 |
| "He's been bending my ear for over half an hour" |
When he leaves the café, Kelly remarks, “Do you know what? He’s been bending my ear for over half an hour, and all he wants is a carol night.”
 |
| "He might have a point there" |
Hywel thinks that he might have a point, and she goes to make his tuna baguette.
 |
| "Kath is not answering her phone" |
Lisa investigates the contents of the box, and Cassie complains that Kath is not answering her phone;
 |
| "She doesn't want him home either" |
“No, I’m sure she isn’t – she doesn’t want him home either,” suggests Lisa.
Cassie complains that she told him it was only for couple of nights, and did not think that she would be ‘pulling a cracker’ with him.

| "Not just before Christmas" |
However she cannot bring herself to throw him out just before Christmas.
 |
| "Right, kick him out after Christmas" |
Lisa comes to the conclusion, “We have no choice, then – we’ll drink his beer, eat his turkey – and kick him out after Christmas! I’m sure we’ll have fun – there are three bottles of gin here, and enough Prosecco to open a shop.”

| "I'm worried about the turkey" |
Colin opens the fridge and tells Britt, “I’ve been thinking, and I’m a little worried about the turkey – don’t you think eight pounds will be a bit small for us?
 |
| "I like a moist turkey" |
“And it’s a crown – don’t you think it will be a bit dry without the bone?” Britt is looking at her phone and taking no notice of him, as he emphasises, “I like a moist turkey.”
 |
| "I can't cope with this!" |
She suddenly gets up; “I can’t cope with this!” she snarls, and dials Garry’s number. “Garry, it’s me again – I really need to see you!
 |
| "I'll bring Gwern and Seren with me" |
“Listen, perhaps I can meet you somewhere, and I’ll bring Gwern and Seren with me. Phone me back, please!”
 |
| "You can't do that, Britt – it's not right!" |
Colin warns her that she cannot do that; “Take the kids behind Dani’s back – it’s not right!”
 |
| "Garry's the important one!" |
 |
| "Where does that leave me, then?" |
 |
| "I'm proud of being an Evans" |
He is affronted, informing her, “I’ve never tried to be a Monk – I’m proud of being an Evans.”
 |
| "What exactly have you got to be proud of?" |
She scornfully wonders what exactly he has to be proud of; he grabs his coat and leaves.
 |
| Aled tracks down Iolo |
In the deserted Deri, Aled approaches Iolo, who has just had Cawl for his lunch, and attempts to make small talk;

| "Do you want to know what I'm having for dinner as well?" |
 |
| "I want to ask you a favour" |
Aled gets to the point of his visit; “I want to ask a favour – would you be willing for Tyler and me to have Greta on Christmas Day?”
 |
| "Christmas is already sorted out" |
He is advised that he needs to talk more with Tyler, as Christmas has been sorted out. Iolo and Greta will be going to his father’s house.”
 |
| "I want Dani to have the perfect Christmas" |
Aled goes on, “I know, but I’d like to change the plans – for Dani – she’s been through so much over the last few months, and I just want her to have the perfect Christmas. I’m not asking you to be away from Greta – I just thought perhaps you could both come to the flat to be with us.”
 |
| "That's the last place I want to be" |
This is not welcomed at all by Iolo; “That’s the last place I want to be – I’m not staying there at all, and you’ve got a cheek to ask.
 |
| "I'd rather not celebrate at all!" |
“I’d rather not celebrate at all, than be with you and Tyler! Do you understand?”
 |
| Eileen is still hard at work |
Colin arrives at Penrhewl to find Eileen very busy; he is offered some sherry, but he cannot stay; “We’re very busy in the shop –

| "I'm just here for the twenty hampers' |
“I’m just here for the hampers – I phoned on Friday – twenty new orders.”
 |
| Eileen had forgotten all about them |
Eileen had totally forgotten, will now have to make more mince pies, and is unsure if she has enough baskets, but is urged to calm down.
 |
| "You've got until lunchtime tomorrow" |
“Only Mark is collecting his today, so I will phone him to explain. You’ve got until lunchtime tomorrow to finish them,” says Colin.
 |
| "I don't know if I can do that, Col" |
With Sioned away, she does not know if she can meet the deadline,
 |
| "You've got a friend who's an expert on hampers" |
so Colin says, “Luckily for you, you’ve got a friend who’s an expert on hampers – I’ll come over after closing the shop!” This is a great relief to Eileen.
 |
| Tyler's search is fruitless |
Dani is wrapping presents while Tyler searches online, but is unable to find the doll anywhere;
 |
| "I told you – there's no point looking" |
“I told you – there’s no point looking!” she groans, and he reminds her that she has already bought lots of stuff for Seren.
 |
| "Having Dadi home was top of the list" |
“Yes, but I can’t give her the second thing on her list – having Dadi home was top of the list,” she replies.
 |
| "I was trying to do something nice for Dani" |
Aled comes in and asks if Greta is coming over later, adding that Iolo is angry with him; “I was trying to do something nice for Dani – I’ve been worried about you and I wanted to make sure you have a Christmas to remember.
 |
| "I invited them over here" |
“So I invited them over here on Christmas Day.”
 |
| "You had no right to interfere!" |
This infuriates Tyler; “What? Iol and I have sorted Christmas out – you had no right to interfere!” He immediately storms out of the room.
 |
| "Two vodka martinis, with a twist" |
Cassie is preparing drinks for herself and Lisa, and informs her, “I’ve made two vodka martinis with a bit of a twist.”
 |
| "Where are you going?" |
 |
| Lisa had an offer she could not refuse |
The reply is. “One of my best clients has just phoned – Christmas in a five star hotel in Cardiff – I couldn’t refuse.” Cassie wonders what she is supposed to do, and does not like the thought of being alone with Mark, who comes in at that moment. He sees the drinks, and assumes that one of them is for him.

| "You're the one missing out" |
Lisa tells him she is going away until after Christmas, and he maintains, “That’s a shame – you’re the one missing out, isn’t she, Cassie?” There is no reply as Lisa exits through the front door.
 |
| "Just the two of us, then" |
Mark finds that the drink has quite a kick to it, and comments, “Just the two of us, then.”
 |
| Another batch of mince pies in the oven |
Eileen is putting mince pies into the oven when Colin returns;
 |
| "Right, where do you want me, Eileen?" |
“I’m here early – Llinos was willing to lock up for me – right, where do you want me?” Eileen sets him to work putting jam and chutney in each basket.
 |
| "I don't want to talk to her at the moment" |
His phone sounds, and he finds that it is another message from Britt; he will phone her back later. “I don’t want to talk to her at the moment,” he confesses, “You know what things are like before Christmas – stress and arguments and things.”
 |
| "Sorry, you've got your own problems" |
Then he apologises for complaining, when Eileen has her own problems, but she insists that she is all right. She is determined that it will be a happy day for Huwi – and Jim.
 |
| "I'm lucky to have good friends, Col" |
Colin says that she is very brave, and that she appreciates having good friends.
“Before you start, I want you to do one other job for me,” Eileen tells him, “Go to the fridge and open the bubbles.”
 |
| "I'm an expert at that!" |
He brags that he is an expert at that.
 |
| "I didn't know what he was going to suggest" |
Tyler goes round to number 7; “I thought you’d come round today,” says Iolo, and Tyler had no idea what Aled was going to suggest.
 |
| "Perhaps I was bit hard on Aled . . ." |
Now that Iolo has had time to think, he concedes that perhaps he was a bit hard on Aled; “Look, I’m not coming to the Deri, but Greta can come for a few hours.
 |
| ". . . it's not easy for Dani, is it?" |
“It’s not easy for Dani, is it?”
 |
| "Who is he, then?" |
Iolo has just received a text, and smiles when he reads it; “Who is he, then?” enquires Tyler,
 |
| "It's a message from Llio" |
but is told that it is a message from Llio.
 |
| "She's so 'nice' – a little sickening" |
“I don’t know why you’re such friends – she’s so ‘nice’. She must be hiding something – she’s a little sickening.”
 |
| "Right, Greta's not coming over on Friday!" |
Iolo takes exception to this, and growls, “Not everyone has secrets – right, Greta’s not coming over on Friday – because it’s so sickening when people go out of their way to be ‘nice’!” Tyler leaves.
 |
| "Oh – carol singing tonight?" |
Outside the café, Hywel presents Kelly with a leaflet, ‘Tonight, carol-singing by candlelight’. She maintains that it is rather short notice,

| He stresses that is has been well publicised |
but he replies that he has advertised it on social media and there was a lot of interest.
“There’s nothing else to do, I suppose,” Kelly says, and he asks if she can keep the café open later tonight, so people can have tea and coffee and cawl.
 |
| "Extra business is good for me!" |
She agrees to this; “Extra business is good for me!”
 |
| "Have you seen Colin?" |
Britt passes on the other side of the road and asks if they have seen Colin;
 |
| "No, sorry, Britt" |
Hywel mentions the carol singing to her, but she shows no interest whatsoever and hurries away.
 |
| "Hywel, just the fellow I want to see" |
Then Siôn approaches; “Hywel, just the fellow I want to see,” but Hywel is anxious to get away from him. “Can I order 50 mince pies for Christmas Eve,” he asks Kelly.
 |
| "Expecting a lot of visitors, are you?" |
She assumes that he is expecting a lot of visitors,
 |
| Siôn's carols come with free mince pies |
but he produces a leaflet, ‘Christmas Eve carol service – free mince pies – everyone welcome’.
He points out that the Llanarthur Brass Band will be there,

| "You haven't heard about Hywel's carol singing, then?" |
and she remarks, “You haven’t heard about Hywel’s carol singing, then?” Siôn’s expression changes and he marches off across the road.
 |
| "Getting away from Mam's poison" |
“Moving out of that hole and away from Mam’s poison is the best thing I’ve ever done,” Mark emphasises,
 |
| "I'm sure you don't mean that, Mark" |
but Cassie is sure that he does not mean that. She says that Kath was only trying to protect him after what happened with Debbie.
 |
| "She had no right" |
“She had no right!” he goes on, but Cassie maintains that he would do the same for Ricky, and he should not punish his mother by leaving her alone at Christmas.
 |
| "Go and sort things out with her" |
She encourages him to go and see Kath and sort things out; “Especially when the rest of the family are miles away.” He does not want to leave Cassie on her own, so she lies that she is thinking of going to see Ems, insisting that both of them should be with family.
 |
| Cassie has managed to convince him . . . |
“I suppose that you’re right – there’s no point sitting here on my own,” he realises, and Cassie says that his mother is lucky to have him.
 |
| . . . and is very relieved |
She is very pleased to see the back of him as he leaves the house, and breathes a sigh of relief.
 |
| "I want you in my Christmas stocking – sexy!" |
At Penrhewl, there are high spirits, as Colin suggests putting a note in Mark Jones’ hamper; “I want you in my Christmas stocking – sexy! It would make his year – his decade!”
 |
| "I think that's enough for tonight" |
Eileen thinks that they have done enough for one night, and will finish the rest tomorrow morning. He thinks that he is a dab hand at tying the bows, something with which Eileen does not agree.
 |
| "She probably wants to shout at me again" |
He hears his phone again, and remarks on several missed calls from Britt; “She probably wants to shout at me again,” he fears.
Eileen describes him as a special person, and he thinks that he had better go and face the music.
 |
| "You can stay here tonight, with me" |
“You don’t have to go – you can stay here tonight, with me,” Eileen rather unexpectedly suggests,
 |
| Colin is dumbfounded |
and Colin looks extremely surprised.
 |
| Cassie is watching the box . . . |
Cassie sits at home, watching the television,
 |
| . . . when she hears someone skulking outside |
when there is a noise outside like someone falling over a dustbin; then she hears the back door opening and is terrified.
 |
| "Police, please" |
She picks up her phone; “Police, please!” she whispers,
 |
| Father Christmas has arrived |
as someone, in a Father Christmas outfit, and carrying a sack, walks into the kitchen.
 |
| "What on earth?" |
“What on earth?” she demands.
 |
| "Merry Christmas, Cassie!" |
The shadowy figure removes his hood and in a voice very reminiscent of Garry’s, wishes her, “Merry Christmas, Cassie!”
