10 December 2020

Eileen is not pleased that Eifion is back

Eifion is back at Penrhewl, and tells Eileen, “Sorry for disturbing you – I didn’t want to just walk in.   I wanted to see if you needed anything from the village – I’m going to talk to Luned and Rhys.

"The police are satisfied I wasn't involved"

“The police are satisfied I wasn’t involved in the attack.   I want Rhys to understand that he had no right to accuse me.   Where’s Sioned, then?”

Eileen informs him that she is out delivering hampers, and he advises her to put her feet up and lock the doors;  “We need to be careful until this mugger is caught.”

"I don't feel safe on my own"

Eileen does not feel safe in the house on her own, and would like to go to the village with him;  he is only too ready to agree.

Jaclyn is back, and Gerwyn is worried

Dylan is walking along the High Street when he sees Gerwyn emerging from the alley;  he immediately stops when he sees a car pulling up outside number 10.

"You mustn't get cold feet, Ger"

“What am I going to tell her?” he asks Dylan, and is reminded that he has decided to patch things up with Jacs;  he must not to get cold feet.   “That’s easy for you to say,” Gerwyn groans, but is advised that both Jaclyn and Tesni will be glad to see him.

“She could hurt me again,” whines Gerwyn, but Dylan assures him that she still loves him, and would not have come back otherwise.

He looks at the car

Gerwyn looks at the car, as its door opens squeakily.   He summons up his courage and walks towards them.

"Dad!"

“Dad!” shouts Tesni, excitedly, and Dylan hopes that they had a good time;  “Yes, it was really nice to get away,” Tesni replies.

"I'll go and get some cakes"

Gerwyn is reluctant to say anything, but eventually asks Tesni to put the kettle on, and he will go to the café for some cakes.

Jaclyn does not know what to expect

Jaclyn looks worried,

"Everything will be all right, Jacs"

but is assured by her brother that everything will be all right;  she goes into the house.

"This attack has really upset me, Auntie Neet"

Up in the café flat, Kelly is agitated;  “This attack on Luned has really upset me, Auntie Neet.”

"You're not on your own, Kelly"

Anita appreciates that it has opened old wounds, but stresses that Kelly is not on her own.   She proposes that after closing tonight, they will go out to give them a chance to relax and forget about these nasty things.

"I shall go and see Luned"

Kelly intends to go and see Luned, and Anita comes up with the idea of a game of tennis;

Anita suggests a game of tennis

“There’s a court we could use the other side of Llanarthur.”

"I'm not in the mood to do anything like that"

“Don’t think I’m ungrateful, right, but I’m really not in the mood to do anything like that, sorry,” Kelly replies,

"A vendetta against me"

“I’m worried Luned was attacked because she works for me – a vendetta against me.   Jason thinks I’m paranoid, but I’m worried that someone else is going to get hurt because of me.”

"That's not going to happen, Kelly"

Anita is quite sure that is not going to happen,

"How do you know?"

and Kelly demands, “How do you know?”

Anita reminds her that she has not had a letter for a while;  “The attack on Luned has nothing to do with you.”

"What's wrong – guilty conscience?"

Eifion does not receive a friendly reception from Rhys;  “What’s wrong – guilty conscience?” he says.   Eifion is eager to point out that the police have questioned him about the attack, and are satisfied that he had nothing to do with it – but he emphasises that mud sticks.

"If you're not guilty, there's nothing to worry about"

Rhys is sure that if he is innocent he has nothing to worry about.

"I'd never attack anyone!"

“I can’t believe you think the worst of me – I’d never attack anyone!” rages Eifion, “The police can see that – why can’t you?”   Rhys concedes that he may have overreacted yesterday,

"You knew what type of headphones they were"

but he found it odd that Eifion knew what kind of headphones they were.   Eifion is quite adamant, “Luned told me!   She must have forgotten – she had a knock, remember.”

"Lots of people have been walking and jogging"

Rhys wonders if he has seen anyone prowling around Penrhewl, and is told that lots of people have been walking and jogging up there since this lockdown.   “People think they can go wherever they want.”

"What happened to Iori?"

At number 10, Jaclyn asks what happened to Iori;  “Heart attack, I think – Mam didn’t say much,” answers Gerwyn,

"She's at Iori's house now"

“She’s at Iori’s house now – and we’ve had orders not to disturb her.”

Tesni wonders why they did not tell her and her mother the news;

"We didn't see any point in spoiling your holiday"

“We didn’t see any point in spoiling your holiday,” says Gerwyn, “There’s nothing we can do, is there?”

"Guto wants to make things awkward"

Tesni complains that Guto did not want them to know in order to make things awkward, but her father reminds her that he has been hurt as well.

"Why don't you go and look for him?"

Jaclyn suggests that Tesni go and to look for her brother;  “Your father and I would like you to be friends again.”   Gerwyn proposes that the four of them can have a nice dinner together tonight.

"It's like the necklace you gave me"

When she has gone, Jaclyn shows Gerwyn a pebble she picked up from the beach;  “It’s like the necklace you gave me years ago,” she says,

"You mean the one I stole!"

and he recalls that it was the one he stole.

"I would have done anything for you back then"

“I would have done anything for you back then,” he goes on, then closes the cake box and sighs deeply.

Colin appears to be heading for the Deri

Colin comes out of the chippy and crosses the road;

Ffion come along the road . . .

Ffion is also approaching as Rhys emerges from his father’s house, followed by Luned.

. . . and meets Rhys

He asks if Ffion is all right, and whether the injury is still getting better.

"I'm back running a little bit as well"

Ffion reports that the doctor is happy, “And I’m back running a little bit as well.”

"Don't push yourself too hard"

He advises that she should not push herself too hard, as the muscles will need time to heal.   “Thanks for the advice,” she says, sarcastically.

“Be careful if you’re running near Penrhewl as well,” he adds,

"A lot worse than falling over a bag!"

and Luned relates the horrible experience she had there, making sure to stress that it was a lot worse than falling over a bag.

"You haven't heard, have you?"

Rhys realises that Ffion has not heard about the incident,

"I'm not that interested in what happens to you"

but she makes it clear she is not that interested in anything that happens to them, and walks away.

Rhys tells Luned, “Go and order some drinks for us – I need to check something at the gym.”

"They say you often know your attacker"

Inside the Deri, Colin is doing nothing to reassure Eileen;  “They say that you often know your attacker,”

"Who would attack a lovely girl like Luned?"

but she wonders who would attack a lovely girl like Luned.   “Tell me, how have things been between her and Guto since they finished?   Have things turned nasty?”

Eileen does not consider that they were serious,

"Some teenagers can be very bitter"

and Colin continues to press his point, “Some teenagers can be very bitter after being dumped.”   She points out that Guto can often be seen walking at Penrhewl, so he adds, “There you are, then – he could have been around the place,” but she cannot believe that Guto would do something like that.

"You can't be too careful, can you?"
Eifion arrives and announces, “More locks from APD – you can’t be too careful, can you?”
"Colin thinks it might have been Guto"

Eileen tells him about Colin’s theory regarding Guto, and Eifion looks across at Luned, who is at the bar, and does not think that is likely.

"He's not an angel, by a long way"

“He’s no angel, by a long way,” remarks Colin, “He was more than willing to help me con me everyone into thinking that Banksy did the mural on the chip shop wall.”

"Attacking someone is completely different"

Eifion stresses that attacking someone is completely different, and he does not think that Guto would do something like that.

Eileen is anxious to get back to Penrhewl and Eifion agrees to take her.

"I don't know why he's being like this"

In the café, Tesni tells her uncle Dylan, “I’ve texted Guto and phoned him, but his phone is off.   I don’t know why he’s being like this – most people would want their parents to get back together.”

"He's sensitive – just give him time"

Dylan reminds her that he has always been sensitive, so she should give him time.

“How was your mother while you were away?” he enquires;

"She felt guilty for hurting everybody"

Tesni replies that she felt guilty for hurting everybody so much.

“She spent a lot of her time on the beach – she found a heart-shaped pebble and brought it home for Dad.

"Dad stole a necklace from a shop in Tenby"

“Apparently, Dad stole a heart-shaped necklace from a shop in Tenby when they were teenagers.”   Dylan agrees that they were naughty sometimes, and Tesni continues, “She was so chuffed when she found that pebble.”

“Memories like it that will help them to get through this,” Dylan predicts, then has to leave for work.

"Tes, you're back!"

Aled is the next one to come in, and is pleased to see that Tesni has returned;  she wants to hear all the latest gossip, so he will get her  another coffee.

"Why does it matter where I was?"

Rhys has paid a visit to Ffion, and she furiously demands, “Why does it matter where I was yesterday afternoon?”

"You can't remember – or you don't want to?"

He wonders if it is a case of her not remembering or not wanting to say.   “I was in school,” she emphasises, but he comments that she often pops out at lunchtime.

"Did you go up to Penrhewl for a jog?"

“Did you go up to Penrhewl for a jog?” he asks, and she points out that it would be hard for her to run that far.   “But you know that Luned jogs there – someone mugged her yesterday and stole her new headphones!” he rages,

"Have you completely lost it, Rhys?"

and she laughs, wondering if he has completely lost it.

“That’s what Luned was talking about earlier, was it?” Ffion realises, and he says that she looked guilty.

"I was nowhere near Penrhewl!"

“I don’t know what she’s told you, but I was nowhere near Penrhewl!” Ffion shouts at him,

"Now leave me alone, please!"

“Now leave me alone, Rhys, please!”

He retreats from her wrath

He walks out of the flat, looking rather sheepish.

Aled has a shortage of money

Aled tells Tesni that Tyler wants to go away, “But I’m skint!”   She says that the Airbnb she stayed in with her mother was lovely – and it was not too expensive;

"I'll send you a link"

she will send him the link from her phone.

“How are things between your parents now?” he asks, and she thinks that they are having ‘the chat’ now.   Her uncle Dylan is sure that they will stay together;  “Well, fingers crossed, then,” says Aled.

Ieuan Griffiths arrives

Then the café door opens and Ieuan Griffiths comes in, which causes Tesni some embarrassment;

"No, I don't know him"

Aled can see that she knows him, but she denies it.

He tries to avoid looking at Tesni

“Why does he keep staring at you then?   I’m sure he’s that councillor Griffiths – Mam asked him to try to get us a better house.”

"Come on, let's go, Aled"

Tesni unconvincingly maintains that she has never seen him before and is anxious to get out of the café s soon as possible.

"Why are you in such a hurry?"

Aled follows her outside and wonders why she is in such a hurry, if she does not know him.

"Well, that's not quite true"

“Well, that’s not quite true,” she confesses, and Aled wants to know what he has done to her.

"Not here, Aled"

She prefers to go somewhere else, where they are not being watched by Griffiths.

"I've had a lot of time to think"

“I’m glad now that you went away,” Gerwyn begins, “I’ve had a lot of time to think.   Do you really love me, Jacs?”

"Of course I do, Ger"

She answers that of course she does,

"Did you love me when you were sleeping with him?"

and he adds, “Did you love me when you were sleeping with him?” and her reply is again yes.

"I was just bored with life and lockdown"

“I was just bored with life and lockdown – and Garry was just there,” she sighs, “It was just a bit of fun and excitement for me, that’s all.”

"Because I'm so boring, is it?"

“Because I’m so boring, is it?” he groans, “Look, I know I’m not spontaneous – and watching Pointless with me every night isn’t exciting, but I am who I am.

"If you don't want to be with me, just say so"

“So if you don’t want to be with me, just say so.”

"I could never live without you"

After a pause, she declares that she could never live without him;  “I love you.”   He harbours doubts about whether she is telling the truth, and whether she is sure.   She answers both these questions in the affirmative.

"Lying to me now would just be cruel"

“Lying to me now would just be cruel – and you wouldn’t do that to me – after everything – would you?” Gerwyn demands.

Ffion goes to the café for a coffee

Ffion enters the café, and is asked how her ankle is progressing;

"Are you all right, Ffion?"

seeing her flustered state, Kelly asks if she is all right.

"Rhys accused me of attacking Luned!"

“Rhys has just accused me of attacking Luned!” Ffion exclaims,

"He can't go round, accusing people!"

and Kelly points out that he cannot just go round accusing whoever he wants.

"It's easy to react without thinking"

Anita springs to Rhys’ defence;  “It’s easy to react without thinking, isn’t it?   Especially under the circumstances.”   Ffion is unsure what Anita means.

Kelly has no doubts that Ffion is innocent

Kelly, on the other hand, is quite certain, “You didn’t do it – because I’m convinced that the person who attacked Luned is the same person who’s been sending me those letters.”    Anita protests that she is imagining things,

Kelly has a 'gut feeling'

but Kelly tells her, “I’ve got a gut feeling that I’m correct.”

"If I were you, I'd contact the police"

Ffion advises, “If I were you, I’d contact the police,” and Kelly thinks that she might be right.

This strikes fear into Anita

By now Anita is becoming rather worried.

"Do you want me to sort him out?"

After Tesni has explained the situation to Aled, he comments, “Mam said Griffiths was a perv – do you want me to sort him out?”

Tesni wants to handle this her way

but Tesni would rather deal with the matter in her own way.   She remarks that Aled is more of a brother to her than Guto at the moment.

Griffiths is approaching . . .

Griffiths is approaching from the direction of the Deri and walks into the alley to try and avoid her,

. . . and is followed by Tesni

but Tesni follows him;  “Mr Griffiths,” she says , and he turns towards her.

"You've made the same mistake again!"

“I thought we understood each other – you’ve made the same mistake again!” he grumbles, “Greeting a client in a public place.”

"I wanted to apologise for embarrassing you"

She merely wanted to apologise for embarrassing him.   He demands who it was to whom she was talking.

She replies that it was a friend;  “I’ll be more professional from now on, I promise.”

"If it wasn't for me, you would have been sacked"

He is glad to hear it, and maintains that she would have been given the sack, but for his intervention.

"Will you be phoning 'Tasha' again?"

She asks, “Will you be phoning ‘Tasha’ again?”

"Lisa has put her prices up sky-high"

He is not sure, and complains, “Lisa has put her prices up sky-high,” as he stalks off.

"No way would Ffion follow me to Penrhewl!"

In the Deri, Luned insists, “No way would Ffion follow me to Penrhewl!   Do you really believe she would do that?” but Rhys suspects she may have been there, waiting for Luned.

"I'm going to find out who attacked you!"

He is determined to find out who attacked his girlfriend.

"Kelly thinks it's because I work in the café"

Luned makes it quite clear, “It wasn’t Ffion – I know she doesn’t like that we’re together, but she would never mug me – Kelly thinks I’ve been targeted because I work in the café.   That some weirdo has an issue with her.”

"You mustn't go anywhere on your own!"

In that case, Rhys insists that Luned has to be careful and not go anywhere on her own, but she explains, “Kelly’s paranoid!   Perhaps I just fell and hit my head – perhaps if I looked properly I would find the headphones.”

"I want to forget about it, and move on"

Rhys has already been looking for them, and she urges him, “I just want to forget about it now, OK, and move on.”

"I stayed because it's you I want"

At number 10, Jaclyn says, “I don’t know what else to tell you – I stayed because it’s you want, and I’m telling the truth.   I don’t want this marriage to end, but that’s up to you now.”

"It's not going to be easy"

He replies that it is not going to be easy to get through this, but she pleads with him to at least try.

"What happens when he comes back?"

“And what happens when he comes back to the village?” is Gerwyn’s next question;  Jaclyn says that Garry knows it is over and that she wants things to work with Gerwyn.

"I'm not interested"

“Even if he does contact me, I’m not interested,” she declares, “I haven’t even got his number now –

"Look, you can check, if you want"

“you can check, if you want,” offering him her phone,.

"How are we going to find the spark again?"

He says there is no need;  “I believe you – so what are we going to do about us?   How are we going to find the spark in our relationship again?”

"Cwtch up and watch Pointless?"

She makes the suggestion, “We could go back to Tenby, you could steal another necklace, then we’d go back to the hotel, cwtch up and watch Pointless, if you want!”

They both smile

They both smile.

Kelly is looking at the letters again

In the café flat, Kelly is still considering involving the police;  Anita is very anxious.   “I don’t think I’ve got much choice, Auntie Neet,” is the reply,

"Forensics will nail him – or her"

“With a bit of luck, forensics will nail him, or her, or whoever.”

Anita argues that a lot of people have touched the letters now;  Kelly is confident, “But they’ve got techniques – they’ll be able to find someone’s DNA on them.   I know you think there’s no point in phoning the police, but I have to do it, so that my conscience is clear.”

"Don't do that, Kelly!"

As Kelly begins to dial the number, Anita begs her to stop;

"You want me to know who did this, don't you?"

“You want me to know who’s been nasty to me, don’t you?” Kelly squeals, “Right.”

"It was me"

Anita is finally forced to confess, “It was me – I sent you those letters.”   Kelly is absolutely dumbfounded and cannot believe what she is hearing.   “Please let me try and explain,” Anita continues.

"Why?   Why?"

“Why – why?” shouts Kelly, but Anita pathetically whimpers that she does not know.

"I've been torturing myself!"

“I’ve been torturing myself!” Kelly screams, and marches out of the room, ignoring Anita’s apologies.
