Gerwyn shouts to Jaclyn

Gerwyn makes two cups of tea and absent-mindedly calls, “Jacs!” then realises that she is not there;

"Nice to see you up early, Dad"

Guto comes downstairs and remarks that it is nice to see his father up so early.  “I couldn’t sleep,” Gerwyn replies, “Do you want something for breakfast?”

"I'll make you some toast if you want"

Guto is more interested in whether his father is going to work today, but is told, “I can make you some toast, if you want.”   Guto asks him again, and he replies that he has not made up his mind;  “I know – bills to pay.   It’s just the idea of working for him, of all people!   Garry’s probably laughing at me.”

"Do you care what someone like him thinks of you?"

“Do you care what someone like him thinks of you?” Guto demands, “Look, Mam and Garry have . . . done what they’ve done – I understand if you want to find another job at another garage.   But for what, Dad?   It’s close to home, and you’ve got a good life here.

"It's not like Garry Monk's there to keep an eye"

“Anyway, take advantage of the situation – you don’t have to kill yourself while you’re there.   It’s not like Garry Monk’s there to keep an eye on you.”

"You always find the positive, don't you?"

Gerwyn permits himself a wry smile;  “You always find the positive, don’t you? Right, I’ll repair one car, and then I’m going to play darts for the rest of the day!”

Guto enquires, “Have you spoken to her?”

"Right, I'd better get going, then"

and, keen to change the subject, his father says he had better get going, predicting that he will never be a professional darts player if he does not get to work.

Izzy wants to lure Mathew back to bed

In the shop flat, Izzy, still in her nightie, is trying to cajole Mathew, “Come on – one day won’t make much difference.   And Rhys isn’t home.”

He protests that he has a lot to do,

"You'd rather work than stay with me?"

so she whines, “You’d rather work than stay here with me all day?”

"And listen to Jason Francis moan about his divorce"

“Oh yes,” he replies sarcastically, “I’d rather drag bags of cement around, and listen to Jason Francis moan about his divorce.”   If that is the case, Izzy decides that she is going back to bed, and he concedes, “All right – I can give you half an hour.”

Off they go, back to bed

He chases her back to the bedroom.

"Just don't come to me when I'm a millionaire!"

At Bryntirion, Jason learns by phone that Hywel has come to a decision;  “That’s OK,” he says, “I understand – just don’t come to me when I’m a millionaire, that’s all!”

Jason is rather dejected

When he puts down the phone his attitude changes to one of bitter disappointment.

Rhys leaves the café

As Rhys comes out of the café, Mathew is approaching from the alley and asks if he is all right;  “What’s wrong?   Has someone put too much sugar in your smoothie?”

"You were rather quiet last night"

He also noticed that Rhys was rather quiet last night.

“You haven’t seen Ffion today, have you?” Rhys asks, “She hurt herself running yesterday and I feel a bit responsible – Luned caused it.”   Mathew can appreciate that this is somewhat awkward, as Rhys continues, “I’m worried about her, you know.”

"You need to remember that Luned is your girlfriend now"

Mathew advises him that he needs to remember that Luned is his girlfriend now,

"She can be so immature sometimes"

but he answers, “She can be so immature sometimes.”

"You're used to being with old women!"

“I know that it must be hard for you because you’re used to being with old women . . . no, sorry, older women,” says Mathew, but Rhys stalks off in disgust.

Guto does not look happy

Guto is passing glumly on the other side of the road, and Mathew asks how Tesni is;  “She’s upset – plenty of crying and chocolate,” Guto replies, “I presume that is down to you.

"Tes and Mam have gone away"

“She and Mam have gone away.”   When Mathew wants to know when she will be back, Guto wonders why that concerns him.

"I didn't want to hurt her"

“I didn’t want to hurt her,” Mathew assures him,

"Yeah, if you say so"

but Guto is not convinced.

Mark has brought a parcel to Dani

Mark has delivered a parcel to Dani;  “I love it when the stuff I’ve ordered arrives the next morning,” she tells him, and he deduces that she must have been busy last night.   “I’ve had a brainwave – a birthday party for Teddy!” she announces, “I’ve been so worried about the children – it’s a way of cheering them up,

"Helping them forget their father is a selfish pig!"

“and helping them forget that their father is a selfish pig!”

"That's a great idea, Dani"

Mark says that it is a great idea, and she reports that she has everything she needs;  “Balloons, bunting – do you think a magician would be a step too far?”

"Well, if Garry is paying . . ."

He remarks that if Garry is paying, anything is possible,

"A little tiara for Teddy"

and then she discovers a little tiara in the box, which she explains is for Teddy.

"Isn't Teddy a boy?"

“A tiara for Teddy?   Isn’t he a boy?” Mark points out, and suddenly she decides that it is a stupid idea and that she will send it all back.

"If it puts a smile on your face, it's worth every penny"

“No, don’t do that!” he tells her, “If it puts a smile on your face, it’s worth every penny,” and she is once more encouraged.

Iolo has finished work for the day

Iolo gets out of his van and is about to enter number 7 when Llio approaches;  “You’re on the dodge as well, are you?” she says,

"One of the perks of being the boss"

and he replies that is one of the perks of being the boss.

Llio is to prepare lessons

He asks what is her excuse, and she informs him, “CPA,” and he interprets this as being teacher code for staying at home and watching telly.   She explains, “Time to prepare lessons, actually,” and at that moment, Jason is striding purposefully towards them.

"Ah, Iolo, just the man!"

“Ah, Iolo, just the man – have you got five minutes for a chat?” he says,

"I've got the afternoon off"

but Iolo answers that he has the afternoon off.   “It’s about work – will you meet me in the Deri?   I’ll buy you a pint.”

"You've got  yourself a deal, Jason"

This persuades Iolo, who will see him in five minutes.

Izzy seems insatiable today

Later, in the shop flat, Izzy continues her wheedling;  “If Jason’s out all afternoon, you don’t have to go back, do you?   Send a text and say . . .”

"Tes has not taken the break-up well"

Mathew rather abruptly tells her, “No!” then apologises,  and adds, “I saw Guto earlier – I don’t think Tes has taken the break-up well.”

"I know it's hard for her at the moment"

Izzy appreciates that it is hard for her at the moment – she has been through the same thing herself, and assures him that Tesni will get over it.

"I hate to think I've made her feel like this"

“I hate to think that I’ve made her feel like this,” he goes on, but she points out that they could not hide their relationship any longer.

"Perhaps I should contact her"

“Perhaps I should contact her,” he suggests.

Izzy is becoming controlling

Izzy is adamant that it is not a good idea, as he does not want to raise Tesni’s hopes.   He worries that things are not easy for her at home, with this Garry business, but Izzy is quite clear, “You can’t protect everyone.”

"Tes has gone away with Jaclyn"

He says that Tesni has gone away with Jaclyn, and Izzy is sure that will do her good, reminding Mathew, “We deserve a chance to be happy.

"I suppose I'd better get to work"

“Well, as you won’t agree to take a sickie with me, I suppose I’d better get to work – see you later.   Tesni will be all right, you’ll see.”

As soon as she goes downstairs . . .

However, as soon as she leaves the flat, Mathew picks up his phone and leaves a message for Tesni;

. . . Mathew leaves a message for Tesni

“Hiya, Tes, I just want to know you’re OK – and I’m so, so sorry for everything.”

Iolo looks at the paperwork . . .

In the Deri, Iolo is looking at the documents provided by Jason, who tells him, “As you can see from the accounts, we’ve had a very successful year.   A 20% increase in profit.

. . . and listens to Jason's hard-sell

“The thing is, Iolo, having another expertise – like plumbing, for example, would help us develop.   And that’s where you come in, you see, because you’re a plumber.   We’re used to working together – you know that won’t be a problem.”

"If you'd asked me a year ago . . ."

Iolo can see that it is a good offer;  “If you’d asked me a year ago, I would have jumped at the chance, but . . .”

"Ah – Tyler, right?"

Jason assumes that the problem is Tyler, but Iolo insists, “It’s nothing to do with Tyler.

"It would mean less time with Greta"

“I’m in a good place, and more work would mean less time with Greta.”

Jason continues his spiel

Jason is not discouraged, but ploughs on, “APD runs itself at the moment, more or less – you wouldn’t have to do any extra work at all – or you could just be an investor in the company.”

Llio arrives to recue Iolo . . .

Llio arrives just in the nick of time to tell Iolo that he needs to pick up Greta,

"Oh yes?   Right"

which could well be to be a ruse they have devised so that Iolo can be rescued from Jason’s clutches.

"Sorry, Jase, I have to go"

“Sorry, Jase, I have to go,” he says, and is encouraged to take the paperwork with him, so he can take a proper look at it, and can phone later about what Jason insists is a good offer.

"I turned down two MOTs today!"

When Guto returns home, Mark is having a cup of tea and chatting to his father;  Gerwyn boasts, “I turned down two MOTs today – I told them that we were too busy.   I’ll still get paid!”

"You won't get paid if there's no business"

Guto warns him that he will not get paid if there is no business.   “I won’t do it again, but it made me feel better for a while,” his father says.

"How are things going, Gerwyn?"

Mark asks how things are going,

"Pretty depressing, to be honest"

and is told, “Pretty depressing, to be honest.”   Mark comments that he has been there himself, and Gerwyn wonders what makes it better.

"How about a pint in the Deri – or several?"

Mark suggests a pint in the Deri – or even several pints and a whisky chaser.

Guto maintains that it sounds better than sitting in the house all night, and encourages his father to go.   “I’ve got nothing else to do, I suppose,” Gerwyn groans, and Guto thinks they ought to go now, but his father thinks it is rather early,

"See you later, then, Gerwyn"

and Mark agrees to see him later.

"I don't need a babysitter every time you go to work"

“Tell me, Guto, when does your shift start tonight?” Gerwyn demands, “Listen, I don’t need a babysitter every time you have to work.”   Guto does not like the thought of him there on his own,

"I shall have to get used to it some time"

and Gerwyn sighs, “I shall have to get used to it some time – and if I want a pint, I can arrange it myself.

"I'm grateful that you're paying for tonight!"

“I am grateful, though, as you’re paying for tonight!”

"No chance, Dad!"

This comes as a surprise to Guto.

Mathew is shifting bags of cement

Mathew is loading bags of cement into the van when he is accosted by Izzy;

"I told you not to contact Tesni!"

“I told you not to contact Tesni!” she snarls, and he wonders how she knew.   “She just texted me – why do you think?   She wanted me to know that you had phoned her – she’s probably trying to stir things!”

"I felt sorry for her, Izzy"

He explains that he felt sorry for her,

She is definitely becoming controlling

but is instructed, “I told you not to contact her!

"Do you want her back?"

“Do you want her back?”   Mathew denies this, but she moans on, “Well, that’s how it feels – we’ve started a new relationship and you’re worrying about your ex!”

"I won't contact her again"

He promises that he will not contact her again, but she turns and storms away.

He flings his gloves into the van

In his frustration, he flings his gloves into the van.

"He's going to kill her, isn't he?"

At number 7, Iolo is watching a film, with Llio hovering in the kitchen doorway;  “He’s going to kill her, isn’t he?” she panics, and Iolo answers that she will not find out if she hides in the kitchen.

"You're not allowed to choose films from now on"

“You’re not allowed to choose films from now on,” she goes on, and he points out that he had warned her there might be a lot of blood in it.   “I know, but I wasn’t expecting a bloodbath in every scene!’ she complains.

“Do you want me to turn it off?” he says,

"I think I can stand it"

and she is under the impression that she can stand it, until one particularly grisly scene,

"Turn it off, Iolo!"

when she shouts at him to turn it off and opens the curtains.   “Thank heavens for that!’ he says, with relief;

"I didn't know there were vampires in it!"

“I didn’t know there were vampires in it – I’ve been scared of them since watching Buffy when I was eight.”

"We'll stick with rom coms from now on"

Llio decides that they will stick with rom coms from now on;

Iolo is enjoying having this housemate

“You choose one and I’ll put a pizza on for us.”

"Seren cries every time I leave the room"

Dani confides to Mark, “I can’t go anywhere – Seren cries every time I leave the room.   She thinks I’m not coming back, like her father.”   Mark wonders if there is anything he can do to help,

"Find Garry and give him a hiding!"

and is told abruptly, “Find Garry and give him a hiding!”

Gerwyn feels very uneasy

Gerwyn comes in, and is very uncomfortable to see Dani behind the bar;

"I didn't mean to hurt you"

she tells him, “I want to say sorry – I know I hurt you, but that wasn’t my intention.”   He demands what she was trying to do then,

"You had a right to know"

and she maintains that he had a right to know.

"But did it have to be so public?"

“But did it have to be so public?” he demands, “You were the only person who knew how much it was going to hurt me.   We could have supported each other – but you didn’t care about me and the children, did you?”

"I needed to hear that, Mark"

Mark offers to go and have word with him, but Dani accepts that she needed to hear that.

Now there is bad news from Iolo

Outside APD, Jason is speaking to Iolo on the phone;  “Why don’t you just take a few days to think about it?”   Iolo emphasises that he turns down the offer, so Jason ends the call.

"Have you seen Ffion today?"

Rhys comes out of the back door of the gym and asks him if he has seen Ffion today.

"No thanks to your new girlfriend"

The answer is, “No, but I have talked to her – she’s much better, as it happens, no thanks to your new girlfriend.”   Rhys points out that it was an accident and Luned feels terrible about it;  Jason is sceptical about this.

"I don't want Ffion to lose confidence"

“But I don’t want Ffion to lose confidence over this,” Rhys continues, “She’s been doing so well.”

"There's no need for you to worry, Rhys"

Jason assures him that she is still doing well, and there is no need for him to worry.

"It's odd being back, isn't it?"

Coming along the back street, trying to avoid anyone seeing them, are Brenda, who is carrying the bags, and Iori;  “It’s odd, being back, isn’t it?” he says, “Are you ready?”

"I'm not sure I can do this"

Brenda replies, “I’m not sure if I can do this,” but he is sure that she can.   “It’s not right, deceiving my own family,” she adds,

"That's just nerves, Brend"

but he just puts that down to nerves and admits that he is nervous himself.   “What if we get caught?” she demands, but he is confident they have worked out every detail, and their plan is foolproof.

"Please don't let me down, OK?"

“Now off you go back home – I know you can do it,” he tells her, “Please don’t let me down, OK?”

Iori keeps a careful eye on her

and she heads through the alley, and past the deserted shop.

It is almost dinnertime . . .

Izzy returns to the shop flat, where Mathew is laying the table for dinner.

. . . and Mathew tries to apologise . . .

He attempts to apologise, but she does not want to talk about it;

. . . but Izzy is not interested

“Not now, I’m tired – I just want a bath and a quiet night,” she groans.   She is not hungry, and refuses any dinner.
"I'm never going to regret choosing you"

“I’m never going to regret choosing you,” he insists, “You do know that, don’t you?   I just can’t help worrying about Tes, that’s all.”

That has no effect, either

Izzy leaves the room without further word.

A game of darts in the deserted Deri

As Mark is wielding the darts, he advises Gerwyn not to make any big decisions now;  Gerwyn enquires, “How can I forgive her?”

"I don't want you to throw everything away"

He is told that he might see things differently in time;  they have been together for years and have a family;  “I just don’t want you to regret throwing everything away,” Mark says.

"Like you did with Debbie, is it?"

“Like you did with Debbie, is it?” Gerwyn remarks, and accepts the offer of another pint, although he i tos reluctant put money into the pockets of the Monks.

"You can't blame Dani"

“You can’t blame Dani,” Mark rebukes him,

"She didn't think of my feelings"

but Gerwyn points out that she did not think of his feelings with that big show.   “No, but she’s been hurt too,” Mark goes on, “She wasn’t thinking straight.   You should be supporting each other, not falling out.”

Dani is listening

Dani overhears this conversation.

"Mam!   You're back!"

Suddenly, Brenda rushes in, looking for Gerwyn;  “Mam!   You’re back!” he exclaims, and he wonders why she is so distressed.

"My husband's died"

“My husband’s died!” she wails,

"Dad's been dead for years, Mam"

and Gerwyn reminds her that his father has been dead for years.

"Not your father – Iori's dead!"

“Not your father – Iori!   Iori’s dead!” she stresses;

Mark is stunned to hear this . . .

both Mark

. . . as indeed is Gerwyn

and Gerwyn look stunned.
