Jason decides not to answer his phone

At Bryntirion, Jason’s phone is ringing;  when he manages to locate it and sees who is calling, he ignores it.

Suddenly his cousin walks in

Then there is a knock at the door, and he finds that it is his cousin, Elin Francis, who is a lawyer.   “Hiya, Jase,” she says,

"What are you doing here, Elin?"

and he wonders what she is doing there.

Mathew gets a shock

In the shop flat, Mathew is rather shocked to see Dylan walk in;

"You've broken Tes's Heart!"

“You’ve broken Tes’s heart!” Dylan snarls, “You heard me!”   Mathew assures him that he did not mean to do so, but Dylan continues, “She was crying all night because of you.”

"I feel terrible about it"

Mathew confesses he feels terrible about this, and is told, “You’re lucky she warned me not to, or you’d be on your back in the hospital!

"Don't think you've got away with this!"

“Don’t think you’ve got away with this – I’m keeping my eye on you, and I never forget!”

He has certainly 'put the wind up' Mathew

Mathew is terrified, as intended, and Dylan walks out without another word.

"You do know Mam and Dai are in Australia?"

Elin cannot remember the last time she saw Jason, and he comments, “We haven’t had a family gathering for a while, have we?   You do know that Mam and Dai are in Australia, don’t you?”

"I thought I might meet the new woman"

“Yes, I came to see you,” she informs him, “I thought I might meet the new woman.”   Jason realises that his mother has been talking again, and Elin has been given all the information,

Elin knows all the details

“Kelly – she owns the café and writes for the Western Post.   That didn’t go down well – I hear that she’s upset your mother already.

"Fingers crossed, I'll have more luck"

“I hope you have more luck than you did with Sara – how’s Ifan?”

"How are auntie and uncle?"

Jason says that he is great, and enquires after his uncle and auntie;  Elin answers, “Dad’s complaining about his hip, and Mam’s enjoying every minute of her retirement – she’s taking art lessons, and insists on hanging the pictures – they’re awful!   I’m sure Ifan could draw better pictures.”

"The contract is ready"

“Talking of retirement, I might as well get straight to the point – I’ve got a meeting in Llanarthur next.   The contract is ready.”

"Contract?   You mean the divorce?"

Jason does not know what contract she is talking about, and says he got the paperwork in the post about the divorce.

She corrects him, “No, this is the APD contract – they want you to sign the papers, so that you can sell the business.   Your Mam and Dai will never be home then – they’ve still got a place in Spain, haven’t they?”

"So it is happening, then?"

Jason is speechless for a moment;  “Sorry, so it is happening?” he gasps, and Elin tells him that there has been an offer of £280,000.

"Your mother has tried to tell you"

Diane had said she had been trying to phone Jason to tell him.

Jason gives the excuse that he has been very busy;  “Look, leave it with me, Elin – I like to read through things properly before I sign – I’ll get back to you.”

"I shall need it back by the end of the week"

She insists that she will need it back by the end of the week, so they can keep Dai and Diane happy.

Jason does not like what he sees

When she has gone, Jason picks up the contract and looks at it, with incredulity.

"DJ's had an idea"

At Penrhewl, Sioned tells her mother not to worry about lunch;  “I’ll make something for DJ and me when we’re ready.   I know you’ve been worried, so DJ’s had an idea.”

"We can protect the sheds and their contents"

He explains that they cannot put locks on every gate, but they can protect the sheds and everything in them.

"At least the tractor and quad are safe"

Eileen is reassured to know that the tractor and quad are safe at least,

"I said we would look after you, Mam"

and Sioned stresses that they are going to look after her mother.

Eileen detects some romance here

Eileen gets the impression that something is going on between Sioned and DJ.

Megan takes some bags out of the shop

Megan is taking bags of items out of the Apêl Maenan shop when Dylan happens to be passing,

"Been on a shopping spree, have you?"

and assumes that she has been on a shopping spree.   “No, I’m on my way to the homeless shelter in town,” she replies,

"So much stock is going to waste"

“It breaks my heart that so much stock is going to waste in the shop with so many people living on the street with nothing.”

Dylan describes her as very kind,

"We're in this world to help each other"

and she goes on, “We’re in this world to help each other – look, Dylan, I’m sorry I couldn’t help you with that money.”   He says that he should never have asked and has now sorted things out.

“How are you getting to town?” he enquires, and she intends to catch the bus in ten minutes.

"Today you've got a chauffeur"

“Today you’ve got a chauffeur,” he announces, “It’s no trouble – I’ll go and get the car.   As you said, we’re here to help each other.   It’s not fair that you do all the work –

"Why don't we pick up some cakles on the way?"

“why don’t we pick up some cakes on the way?   I’m sure the people at the shelter would appreciate that.”

What is Dylan's ulterior motive?

Megan is impressed by his attitude.

Sioned laughs at DJ's appearance

Having dealt with the security issues around the farm, DJ is puzzled when Sioned laughs at him;  “You’ve got some muck on your nose,” she giggles,

"I expect someone will say it's good for your pores"

“Mind, I expect some expert somewhere would say it’s good for your pores.   We should put it in bottles and sell it online.

"Are you ready for some lunch?"

“Are you ready for some lunch?   I’ll make us something.”

"I promised I'd have lunch with Mathew"

“You don’t mind if I go to the village, do you?” he asks, apologetically, “I promised Mathew I’d have lunch with him.”

"I was only going to do some pasta"

Sioned answers that it is no problem, as she was only going to do some pasta,

"I won't be long, Sioned"

and he assures her that he will not be very long, as they look into each others eyes, rather more intently than might have been expected.

Is Sioned hoping for something?

Sioned gives the impression that she thinks something might be developing there.

Ffion arrives at Bryntirion

Jason has invited Ffion to Bryntirion, and she wonders if everything is all right.

"Mam and Dai have decided to sell APD"

He replies, dejectedly, “No – Mam and Dai have decided to sell APD.   I’m one signature away from losing my livelihood!” and tosses down the contract on the table.

"I'm sorry to hear that, Jase"

Ffion is very sorry to hear this, and he complains, “Kelly already says I’m under her feet in the café.

"I haven't got the best track record"

The thing is, I haven’t got the best track record – anyway, I need money.   Once Sara’s taken her share, there won’t be much left.”

"Have you discussed it with them?"

Ffion asks if he has discussed this with Dai and his mother;  “And say what?   I don’t want to sell?” he groans, “They’ve got big plans –

"Everybody's got big plans, apart from me"

“everyone’s got big plans, apart from me.”

Guto has come to own up . . .

Eileen has a visitor at Penrhewl;  it is Guto, who is feeling repentant.   “Tes told me she had heard you and Eifion arguing, and I’m pretty sure I left that gate open the other day.

. . . and Eileen realises she has 'jumped the gun'

“I was out walking when I lost track of the time and I was rushing home – I don’t remember closing it.

"I'm so sorry, Eileen"

“I’m so sorry – you’ve argued for no reason.”

"Thank you for being so honest"

Eileen assures him that she has lots of reasons to fall out with Eifion, and says that not everyone would come there to take the blame;  “Thank you for being so honest.”

"I expected you to be angry"

He is very relieved, imagining that she would have been angry, and has been off his food since yesterday;  Eileen invites him to have a cake, but he declines and hurries away;

This leaves her in a difficult position

she feels in rather a quandary.

"He was just standing there, DJ"

Over lunch in the Deri, Mathew tells DJ, “He was just standing there – I don’t know how he got in.”

"There's something about him I don't trust"

DJ advises that he needs to watch out for that one, as there is something about Dylan he does not trust.   He must hurry as he and Sioned have work to do this afternoon.

"A bit of flirting work, is is?"

“Work, is it?   What sort of work?   A bit of flirting work, is it?” Mathew remarks,

"Things are rather awkward"

but is told that everything has changed and things are rather awkward.   “Do you think things are awkward because she feels the same as you?” probes Mathew, “Perhaps you should just tell her – a lot has changed since you suggested the ‘date’.   I’ve seen you together and you seem happy.”

"It's not long since Jim died"

“Yes, but she is still grieving, isn’t she?” DJ replies, “It’s not long since Jim died – I don’t want her to think I’m taking advantage.”   Mathew suggests that she needs him more now than ever.

Dylan is still 'buttering up' Megan

Megan and Dylan are back from their mission, and he is still heaping praise upon her;  “I didn’t realise you did so much for charity – you’re a special lady.”

"The truth is life can be very lonely"

She explains that she has selfish reasons doing things;  “The truth is that life can be very lonely, and when I go out to help people, it’s often the only company I get during the day.”   He says that he is convinced she gives much more than she takes, and her company must raise a lot of spirits.

Mathew looks across at Dylan

Mathew looks across at Dylan, as Megan explains that it is a way of keeping the mind and body busy.

"You remind me a lot of my grandmother"

“You remind me a lot of my grandmother – but you’re much younger, of course,” he flatters her, “I know you don’t usually drink,

"I insist on buying you a sherry"

“but I insist on buying you a sherry.”

He stares at Mathew . . .

On his way to the bar, he stops and stares at Mathew;  DJ must leave now, and Mathew wishes him good luck,

. . . who looks very uncomfortable

then looks very uncomfortable.

"I expected them to check with me first"

“I knew Mam and Dai wanted to sell, but I didn’t expect them to steam ahead without checking with me first,” says Jason.

"It's not too late to tell them"

Ffion encourages him that if he does not want to sell, it is not too late to tell them.   He groans, “But it wouldn’t go down very well, would it?   I’m enjoying life again – I enjoy the work and I need it.

"Keeping busy helps me keep my head straight"

“Keeping busy helps me keep my head straight.”

"You're part of the business, too, Jason"

Ffion reminds him, “You’re part of the business, too – you’ve got rights.   And you never know, Dai and your mother understand how much you’ve  suffered with the gambling.”

"I've proved I can control things"

He agrees, “And they also know how hard I’ve worked to prove to them, and to myself, that I can control things now.   I can’t go back there!”

"Don't let history hold you back"

Ffion urges him not to let history hold him back.

“Yes, you know that, Ffion – but it’s harder to get them to understand, isn’t it?” he answers.   She considers that it is worth a try, and he confirms that they have more clients on the books now than ever before;

"Selling just doesn't make sense!"

“Selling just doesn’t make sense.   Why can’t we just keep APD for Ifan, so that he has something to do when he grows up.”

"You could buy their share of APD"

Ffion asks, “What if you bought your mother’s and Dai’s share of APD?   You could pay them monthly – work on a plan, so that everything’s legal and fair to them.”   Jason thinks that makes sense,

"There's only one thing to do now"

so she adds, “There’s only one thing to do now,”

"Thanks, Ffion!"

and he is grateful for Ffion’s help.

"I was horrible to Eifion yesterday"

Eileen informs DJ and Sioned that it was Guto who left the gate open, not Eifion;  “But I feel awful – I was horrible to Eifion yesterday!”

"He's usually guilty, isn't her?"

Sioned points out that Eifion may not be guilty this time, but he usually is;  she tries to persuade her mother not to apologise.

"Eifion would love that!"

DJ is of the opinion that Eifion would love it if she apologised;  “You only accused him because of the terrible things he’s done before – there’s no need.   Go and have a bath – we’ll sort everything out here.”

Eileen will go up and have a bath

Eileen accepts their advice,

"Thanks, Superman"

and Sioned says, “Thanks, Superman – do you fancy a cake?”

"I've got to take these locks back to APD"

DJ has to take back the locks to APD, but she warns, “I can’t promise there will be any left by the time you come back.”

“Go on then,” he concedes, “But it won’t be the same without a cup of tea,” and puts on the kettle.

"Are you all right, DJ?"

Sioned wonders if he is all right, as he seems a bit on edge.

"I was thinking, we should forget about that 'date'"

She continues, “There’s no need to apologise – I was thinking, perhaps we should forget about that ‘date’ if things are awkward now, and if it wasn’t going to be a proper date.”

"There's no need to complicate things"

He agrees that she may be right, and as they look at each other again, he maintains there is no need to complicate things.

She does not look as if she agrees

Sioned nods, but does not look particularly happy about it.

Jason is washing-up . . .

Jason is doing the washing-up when his phone rings again;

. . . .and wipes his hands on his T-shirt

after wiping his hands on his T-shirt, he answers it.

"I've been busy, you see, Mam"

“Hello, Mam, no – I’ve been busy, you see – I’ve got a lot of jobs on.   No, you’ve got that right – news doesn’t half travel quickly.

"So you've talked to Elin, then?"

So you’ve talked to Elin, then?   Well, I’m here now – I’ve checked everything, opened the upstairs windows – and I’ll remember to close them again afterwards.

Jason is reluctant to speak to Dai

No I don’t have time to talk to Dai now, Mam.”

His mother takes no notice of this, but hands the phone to Dai;

"No, you're right – I don't want to"

“No, you’re right – I don’t want to,” Jason exclaims, “Dai, I'm a partner in this business as well, you know – we need to talk about this sensibly.”

"Have you finished shouting?"

He then appears to be subjected to a tirade from Dai, and when this has subsided, Jason asks, “Have you finished shouting?   Good, now listen to me, Dai –

"I'm not signing, and that's the end of it!"

“I’m not signing, and that’s the end of it!”

"We could go out for a drink next week"

Sioned suggests, “I was thinking, perhaps we could go out for a drink next week.  We could invite everybody – Mathew, Tesni, Luned and Rhys.”

DJ is not exactly enthusiastic

DJ seems very lukewarm about this, so she goes on, “You like them, don’t you?

"I know – you don't want to go with me"

“I know – you don’t want to go with me.”

He replies that of course he does;

"Sioned, you're the only one I want to go with!"

“Sioned, you’re the only one I want to go with!   I can’t do this any more!”

"What's going on?"

She wonders what is going on, and, after a pause, he continues, “Isn’t it obvious?   I’ve tried to get over you, to move on, but I can’t!

"Being 'friends' hurts too much"

“Please don’t say anything – we can’t carry on being ‘friends’, because it hurts too much.   I know you’ve gone through a lot recently, and I don’t want to put you under any more pressure – but its why I have to walk away.”

"Please don't, DJ!"

With a tremulous voice, she begs him, “Please don’t.”   He is sure that they can be friends again soon,

"I don't want you as a friend – I want you!"

but she argues, “I don’t I want you as a friend – I want you!   And I've been wanting to tell you for weeks, but I was scared.”

"You want me as a boyfriend?"

He cannot believe that she wants him as a boyfriend;

"Well, yeah – if that's all right with you"

“Well, yeah – if that’s all right with you,” she whimpers.

"Only if you're sure it's all right"

With tears in his eyes he confirms that it is all right;  “But only if you’re sure that is what you want – me.”

"I've never been so sure about anything!"

Sioned declares that she has never been so sure about anything in her life, but it is a sign of the times that they do not end the episode with a passionate embrace.
