25 February 2026

Colin can be heard singing . . .

Colin is in very high spirits this morning at the MFC flat, much to Britt’s amusement.

. . . and gyrating in an energetic fashion

He comes into the room, cavorting around in his dressing gown, apparently dancing and causing Britt to giggle.

"Buenos dias, Señorita!"

Then he opens his dressing gown to reveal what, if anything, he is wearing beneath it, wishing her, “Buenos dias, señorita!”

She tells him to stop it, but he does not intend to do that,

"Stop it, Col!"

rather chasing her around the kitchen, ignoring her protests that she has tuna on her fingers.

"We've got the flat to ourselves again!"

“Do you know what?   I’m so glad we’ve got the flat to ourselves again,” he says, “We can do whatever we want, whenever we want!   Listen, I’m finishing early tonight – why don’t you do the same thing and we could go out?   What do you say?

"How about the pictures?"

“A Chinese, perhaps cocktails and then the pictures?”

"Not one of those boring romcoms"

She makes it clear that she does not want to watch one of those boring ‘romcoms’ that he likes, but he emphasises that

"Rom - com - bang!"

there is nothing wrong with a bit of ‘rom – com – bang!”

Garry has attracted a female admirer

At Brynawelon, one of the residents goes to sit opposite Garry, who is reading the Western Post;  he does not look as if he appreciates the company.   “Jean,” he groans and she asks if he slept well.   “In the end, yes,” he replies,

"At one o'clock in the morning"

“But I’d appreciate it if you didn’t knock on my door at one o’clock in the morning from now on.

"I'm not interested"

“I’m not interested in what so-and-so says on Rhwydwaith Menywod Cymru [Women’s Equality Network Wales] – all right?”

"Suit yourself"

“Suit yourself,” she tells him, “Don’t think that I’ve forgotten my manners or anything,

"Are you going to eat that biscuit"

“but are you going to eat that biscuit?
"Custard creams are like gold in this place"

Custard creams are like gold in this place.”

He pushes the plate towards her . . .

Garry pushes the plate toward her

. . . and she seizes the custard cream

and she quickly snaffles it.   He does not appear to like being disturbed.

Lleucu looks at her phone

Lleucu is eating her breakfast and looking at her phone

Cai comes in

when her father comes into Y Felin;  “Hey, Mwncs,” he says

"Iolo's upstairs"

and she warns him that Iolo is upstairs.   He tells her that he needs some work things, as he is cleaning the shop windows later.

He does not reply

Lleucu is eager to find out where he spent the night, but he is non-committal.

"What are you doing here?"

Then Iolo comes down, demanding what he is doing there, and Lleucu answers that he needed a couple of things for work.

"Go and get your stuff, then"

“Right, go and get your stuff, then!” snaps Iolo

"Shouldn't we talk about this?"

Lleucu suggests that they should talk about this.   “No, because I’ve heard everything he has to say –

"Traitor!"

“and we know whose side he’s on – traitor!   Just make sure you pack the rest of your stuff,

"I don't want to see you after today!"

“because I don’t want to see you after today, do you understand?”

"This is such a mess"

When Iolo has left the house, Lleucu declares, “This is such a mess,”

"I had to do the right thing"

but Cai insists that he had to do the right thing,   “Right for who?” she demands, so he replies that it is for the little one.

"How do you know he's better off with Liv?"

“How do you know that he’s better off with Liv?” she wants to know, “That’s what I can’t understand – you know Iolo’s a good father – he’s brilliant with Greta.”

"Things are not that simple, Lleucs"

Cai is very much aware of that, but maintains that things are not that simple – she would not understand.   Now he has to go,

"I'll see you after your shift"

but believes that she has a shift in the shop later, so he will see her there.

Garry is not looking forward to his appointment . . .

Garry looks at his phone to see that he has a reminder of one upcoming event – his hospital appointment.

. . . as he sits on the bench

He is sitting on the bench near the alley and is not looking forward to his visit.

"How are you sleeping?"

Eleri comes past on her run and asks how he is sleeping;

"Why is everyone obsessed with sleep?"

“Why is everyone at Brynawelon obsessed with sleep?” he asks.   She has a couple of jobs with which she would like his help, assuring him that it is nothing that will land him back inside.

"I felt like I was dealing drugs earlier"

“I felt like I was dealing drugs in Brynawelon earlier – not class As, but biscuits.”

"Ah, 'Jean Custard Cream'!"

She immediately realises that he is talking about Jean Hughes, who the staff refer to as ‘Jean Custard Cream’.   He says that he has to be somewhere at three but is free now;

"I'm not taking anyone to the toilet"

he insists that he is not taking anyone to the toilet.

“I wouldn’t do that – not yet, anyway,” she answers and wonders whether he is going anywhere nice.

"Dentist's appointment"

He says that it is a dentist’s appointment, adding that he needs to find somewhere else to live;

"Even my probation officer laughed at me!"

“Even my probation officer laughed at me this morning!”   She was under the impression that he was settling in at Brynawelon, remarking that he is not far off their age.

He kicks over Cai's bucket

As Garry walks past the shop he kicks over Cai’s bucket of soapy water and demands,

"Who put that there?"

“Who put that there?   I could sue you, Colin, for gross negligence!”

"Top of the morning to you, too, Gar!"

“Yeah, top of the morning to you, too, Gar!” Colin shouts after him, then tells Cai that he just wants the windows and the sign cleaned.   He continues that Mark usually does them, “But he’s got a lot on his mind, poor dab –

"I get vertigo just seeing a ladder"

“and I get vertigo just seeing a ladder!”

Lleucu brings a cup of tea

Lleucu has made some tea and brings a cup out to her father;  “Can I ask you a question?” she says, “If you think little Tyler belongs with his biological mother,

"Why are you ready to turn your back on me?"

“why are you ready to turn your back on your biological daughter?”

"Iolo threw me out!"

He insists that he is not turning his back on her, but Iolo threw him out.   “It’s as if Liv and the baby are more important to you than I am,” she conmplains.

"You're more important to me than anyone"

Cai assures her that she is more important to him than anyone, but she has another question;  “Where did you sleep last night, then?   I was worried about you.”

He does not answer

His reluctance to answer

"Really?   With her and the baby?"

leads her to conclude, “Really?   With her and the baby?”   Then she will not let him answer, shouting, “I don’t want to hear it!”

She storms back into the shop

and goes back into the shop, slamming the door behind her.

Britt is overjoyed . . .

Britt is delighted

. . . to see Ben again

to see Ben come back into MFC;  he says that he is all right but had some trouble last night.   “These teenagers came up and started throwing beer and spitting on me.

"I've been walking all night"

“I’ve been walking all night.”

"How about some nuggets and chips?"

Britt will get him some nuggets and chips;  he goes on, “I’m sorry to have to ask this,

"Any chance of getting my head down for a while?"

“but I just need a shower and somewhere to put my head down for a while – would you mind?”

"I'll phone a hostel for you"

She replies that she has promised Colin and has to draw the line somewhere, but volunteers to phone a hostel to see if there is a room for him.

"Ive already tried that"

He says that he has already tried that.

She hands over a key to the flat

After some thought, Britt takes a key from her bag and informs him, “Colin and I are going out tonight, so go in there to sort yourself out, get your head down for a while,

"Make sure you're out by nine"

“but make sure you’re out of there by the time we get back at nine, OK?”

"I won't ask again, Britt"

He is very pleased to hear that, promising that he will not ask again, picks up his nuggets and chips and leaves the shop,

A fryer requires her attention

as she is attending to one of the fryers.

He comes out of MFC . . .

Ben comes out of the shop, looks along the street

. . . and is spotted by Colin . . .

and is noticed by Colin;  he walks across to the corner by the pillar box,

. . . then rejoins his mates

where his two friends are waiting for him.

"You could try turning it off and on again"

Garry has still not been able to shake off Jean at Brynawelon;  now he is trying to remedy a problem with the remote control of the television.   She suggests that he could try turning it off and on again,

He is successful

but he has managed to get the remote working again, receiving a round of applause from the residents.

"Put your hand out"

Then she cryptically tells him to put his hand out

"Not a word to 'MacNabbs!"

and presents him with a custard cream which she found in one of the kitchen drawers earlier, cautioning him not to mention a word to ‘Macnabbs’, or they will both be in trouble.

"Chocolate Bourbons are my favourite"

He tells her to keep the biscuit, commenting, “Chocolate Bourbons are my favourite, anyway.”

"How about a game of Backgammon?"

She wonders if he has time for a little game of backgammon, maintaining that she cannot stand daytime television.

Iolo comes into the shop

In the shop Lleucu sees Iolo come in, just for one bottle of something, for which she charges him £3.

"Dad was in here earlier"

“Dad was in here earlier, cleaning the windows,” she begins, but he does not want to talk about it.

"I don't to say anything I regret"

“He’s your father, so I don’t want to say anything I regret.”

"He stayed with Liv last night"

She continues to inform him that Cai stayed with Liv last night, in the flat.

“And I’ve been thinking – trying to understand – but nothing makes sense, apart from . . .”

"Apart from what?"

There she hesitates, but Iolo is eager to hear what she has to say.

"You don't think he's Tyler s father, do you?"

“You don’t think he’s Tyler’s father, do you?”

Iolo is horrified

This thought appears to horrify Iolo.

Garry is being 'thrashed' again

Garry discovers that Jean is a backgammon expert;  “You’ve smashed me again!”

"Beaumaris Backgammon Champion 1982"

She replies that she was not crowned Beaumaris Backgammon Champion 1982 for no reason.   If he had known that she was a champion, he would never have agreed to play,

"I have my street cred to protect"

arguing that he has his street cred to protect.

He does not have time for another game because he has to go now;  she detects that something is wrong.

"I'm old enough to tell"

“You know, I’m old enough to tell when there’s something weighing heavily on a man’s mind.”

He confesses that he has an appointment at the hospital in Swansea;

"We'll find out soon enough"

“I don’t know yet, but we’ll find out soon enough.”

"He would have told us"

In the shop, Iolo continues, “Look, if he’s the father, he would have told us,”

"If he stayed there last night as well . . ."

but Lleucu reminds him that her father did not say anything about giving Liv money either.   “They’re close, but if he stayed there last night as well . . .” Iolo goes on.

"Fraternising with the cleaner!"

“And it would make sense why he doesn’t want you to be the father,” Lleucu adds, “That’s why he refused to let me see him while he was in hospital – he was too busy fraternising with the cleaner!”

Britt takes the rubbish out . . .

Britt comes out of the back door of MFC with a bag of rubbish

. . . to the bin . . .

to go into the bin;  as she is about to go back inside,

. . . but she is being watched

something catches her eye and she looks along the back street, but she is being watched by a hooded figure.

The Deri looks busy today

Cai comes into the Deri, having been summoned by his daughter;

"I came as quickly as I could"

“Everything all right?   I came as quickly as I could.”

"I thought somewhere neutral would be better"

Lleucu thought it would be better to talk somewhere more neutral and offers her father a drink.

"I'd rather know what's going on"

“I’d rather know what’s going on,” he tells her and she instructs him to sit down, which he does, looking puzzled.

"Do I have to guess?"

Iolo remains silent, so Cai demands, “Is one of you going to tell me, or do I have to guess?”

"Well, we just want to know . . ."

Lleucu begins, “We’ve been talking and . . . well, the truth is – we just want to know . . .”

"Are you Ty's father?"

Iolo can see that she is getting nowhere, so takes over the question, asking directly, “Are you Ty’s father?”

"Of course I'm not!"

Cai laughs at the suggestion and stresses that he is not, so Iolo wonders if he is sure.   “Sure?   Yes – do you think this as well?” he asks his daughter.

"That's the only thing hat makes sense"

She replies that it is the only thing that made sense.

"She's been through a very difficult time"

Cai sighs, “Mwncs, love, Liv and I are friends, that’s all;  she’s been through a very difficult time with everything – she deserves another chance.   That’s what I believe, anyway – and that doesn’t mean that I think any less of you.”

"That's what it does mean"

Lleucu is convinced that is what it does mean;  “If you were Ty’s father, I would have been prepared to forgive you – or to understand, at least.

"You've only known her a little while"

“But the fact that you’re doing this and you’ve only known Liv for a little while . . . and you have no connection to this baby whatsoever, it’s nuts!”

"Without her, I don't know where I'd be"

“She was extremely good to me while I was in hospital,” he points out, “Without her, I don’t know where I’d be right now.”

Iolo sneers that he was just repaying a favour,

"You said the thought of me was keeping you going"

but Lleucu, now becoming very emotional, goes on, “But you said the thought of being back with me was what kept you going in the hospital.”

"But if it was not for Liv . . ."

Cai emphasises that if it was not for Liv –

"Yeah – you don't know where you'd be"

and she angrily exclaims, “Yeah, yeah – you don’t know where you’d be – blah, blah.”

She angrily gets up from her seat and walks out.

"You've got no-one to blame but yourself"

As Iolo is about to follow her, he remarks, “You know what, Cai?   You’ve got no-one to blame but yourself.”

"You haven't changed your mind, then?"

Britt has smartened herself up, so when Colin arrives back from the shop, he comments, “You haven’t changed your mind, then?

"Right, I'll jump in the shower!"

“Right, I’ll jump in the shower and then I’ll be with you.”

"I wanted to ask you one thing . . . "

Then he remembers something else;  “I wanted to ask you one thing –

"You haven't told that Ben he can come here?"

“you haven’t told that Ben he can come here, have you?”

"I saw him outside MFC earlier"

She hurriedly changes the subject, asking him to help with her necklace.   “Because, I saw him outside MFC earlier.”

"Don't you trust me, Col?"

She demands whether he trusts her or not.   “Of course I trust you, love, I’m just asking . . .”

"Stop crucifying me!"

She snarls at him, “Stop crucifying me, Col!”  [croeshoelio]

"You mean cross-examining"

He points out that what she means is ‘cross-examining’ [croesholi] and that he is not ‘cross-examining’ her, but only asking one question.

"It's the hormones, isn't?"

He tells her that he understands, assuming that it is hormones.

Eleri asks for a white wine

Eleri comes into the Deri and asks Geraint for a white wine;  she notices Garry sitting nearby and asks for it to be brought over.

"You're a hot ticket at Brynawelon"

She remarks, “I hear you’re a hot ticket down at Brynawelon.   Siwsi said Jean Custard Cream was talking about you all afternoon.

"Better barricade yourself in your bedroom!"

“You’d better barricade yourself in your bedroom tonight.”

Garry does not make any comment, so she asks if she can sit down;

"I'm not in the mood . . ."

“I’m not in the mood,” he tells her, but she does so nevertheless.

". . . women 'chirping' all day!"

“All I’ve had today is women, ‘chirping’ all day – I’ve had enough, sorry!” he says,

Garry walks out

as he gets up, takes his jacket and leaves,

Eleri is brought her wine

as Geraint brings her glass of wine.

Garry approaches his room . . .

One of the elderly residents is shuffling past his bedroom door when Garry returns to Brynawelon.

. . . where Chocolate Bourbons await

He sees outside the door a plate with three Chocolate Bourbon biscuits,

This makes him smile . . .

which make him laugh.

. . . and he eats one of them

He picks up the plate and eats one.

Later, Britt and Colin are back

Later, in the darkness, Britt and Colin return from their evening outing;  “You look as if you’ve seen a ghost !” says Britt,

"You do realise those films aren't real?"

“You do realise those films are not real, don’t you?”

"That doesn't make them any less scary"

He replies that does not make them any less scary.

"What was that noise?"

Then they hear a noise,

Britt laughs at him . . .

which Britt puts down to his nervous state,

. . . until they see two or three intruders . . .

but then there is a crash

. . . rushing out of the kitchen . ..

and they see two – or was it three? – shadowy figures

. . . and down the stairs

rapidly disappearing down the stairs.
