"He won't be long now"

Kath is looking out of the window of Maes-y-Deri and tells Dani, “He won’t be long now.”   Dani demands whether she is sure that Gaynor was arrested;  “The pigs said they were charging Gaynor with Cheryl’s murder.”

"Did you hear that?"

Dani is surprised that Kath heard this, so she explains, 

"Siwsi told me – and Lleucu told her"

“Well, no – Siwsi told me – but she was not there either, Lleucu told her – she was there – or, at least, I think she was there.”

Dani has a phone message . . .

Dani’s phone sounds and she surreptitiously looks at it;  

. . . from Cai, wanting to meet her

the message from Cai reads, ‘Are you around later?’   

'What are you doing here – collecting rent?"

Mark arrives at the house and wonders what his mother is doing there so early;  “Collecting rent?”

"How did it go with Ricky?"

His mother replies that she just wanted to know how it went with Ricky;  she is told, “He’s really well – he's started going to the gym every day.”

"Just tell him!"

Dani interrupts this cosy little chat to instruct Kath, “Just tell him!” picks up her keys and is about to leave the house.   Mark wants to know what she is talking about, so is advised, “Ask about Gaynor.”

"Tell me what?"

He is anxious to find out what has happened, 

She is reluctant to say anything

but Kath seems strangely reluctant to tell him.

Gaynor is home . . .

Meanwhile, Gaynor returns to Llwyncelyn, carrying a piece of paper, 

. . . and puts the paper on the table

which she puts down on the table;  

She is depressed

she looks extremely depressed.   

The police charge sheet

We see that the paper is a charge sheet and summons, issued by Dyfed-Powys police.

She takes off her ring . . .

She sits down, takes off her engagement ring and, 

. . . looks at it . . .

after looking at it, 

. . . then flings it away

throws it across the room, 

She slumps on the sofa 

slumping back on the sofa.

"How long have you been up?"

At Penrhewl, Sioned has just got up and is surprised to find Mathew at the kitchen table, looking at the laptop.   “How long have you been up?” she asks 

It is the lambing season again . . . 

and he answers that it has been since about four.   He has checked the CCTV, but no lambs have arrived yet;  he anticipates that it will be not long now.

. . . and he is having a refresher course

He does not have time for a cup of tea, but had better get back to the shed.   She is concerned to see that he is looking at a video on lambing.   “I’m just reminding myself what to do, right?”   

"That was a long time ago now"

She complains that he said he did it every year at Commins Coch [north-east of Aberystwyth], but he points out, “That was a long time ago now – about 20 years – 

". . . it's like riding a bike – I think"

“it’s like riding a bike – I think.”

"I'd better phone Howard"

Sioned decides that she must phone Howard, just in case;  

"There's no need, Sioned"

he insists that there is no need to do that, as Howard is busy at APD, and now Mathew needs to get back to the birthing centre.

Sioned tries to persuade him to let her go instead while he looks after Jac and Lili, but he is adamant that he knows what he is doing.   

"Phone me if you need anything"

“All right, but phone me if you need anything!” she warns him, “I mean it, Math – and try not to stress, will you?   Sheep can sense things like that.”

"You need to come up to Penrhewl now!"

As soon as he is out of the farmhouse, she picks up her phone to talk to Howard;  “You need to come up to Penrhewl now.”   

Mathew's instruction leaflet

She picks up a leaflet which Mathew has printed – ‘An idiot’s guide to handling pregnant sheep’, which appears to make her very worried.

Iolo is putting off a potential customer

At Y Felin, Liv comes downstairs to find Iolo, with the baby, talking to a potential customer and advising them to contact another plumber, Darren Rogers;  “Or how about Daf Llwyd?   Phone me back if you have any trouble.”

"You can't turn down work, Iolo"

She tells him that he cannot turn down work, but he argues that he has no choice;  “I was hoping Cai would be home to babysit, but I haven’t seen him this morning.”

"I can babysit"

Liv stresses that she can babysit, but he does not want to ask her to do that.   

“Why?  I’m his mother – I know what I’m doing,” she angrily answers, “And the money would be handy for you – to buy nice things for him.   But if you don’t trust me . . . well, there we are, then.”

"The formula and bottles are in the kitchen"

He has little alternative, but to agree, reminding her that the formula and the bottles are in the kitchen – 

"I'll go and sort out this problem"

he will go and sort out the plumbing problem.   

She does some more bonding with her baby

She happily talks to her baby.

Gaynor is abruptly woken

Gaynor has been dozing on the sofa when she is awakened by a loud banging on the door, accompanied by Mark’s voice, shouting, “Gaynor, please open the door, will you?”   

"Are you OK, Gaynor?"

She goes to open it and he demands whether she is OK.

“No, not really,” she replies.   

"So the police questioned you?"

He has heard that the police questioned her about Cheryl, 

He notices the charge sheet

then notices the paper on the table.

"You were arrested?   Why?"

“You were arrested?   Why?”   

She remains silent

Gaynor does not say anything.

"Has she shown hr face?"

In the deli, Kath and Eileen are looking at the new baby;  Eileen asks, “Has she shown her face since the arrest, then?   I’d be hiding, too, if I were her.”

A very placid baby

Then she turns her attention to the baby, who is once again peacefully asleep;  

"Content, like Huwi-John used to be"

“You’re content, just like Huwi-John used to be.”   Kath comments that he is a big boy, and Eileen says she loves the smell of a new baby.

"Mark always smelled of broken wind"

Kath does not know about that;  “Mark always smelled of broken wind and he hasn’t changed much since.”   

Liv says that she is tired, 

"You'll get used to it"

so is told that she will get used to it.

"I won't be the one raising him"

“Well, I won’t be the one raising him, so . . .”   

"I'm surprised `Iolo's gone back to work"

Eileen is surprised that Iolo has gone back to work, as Liv is only just back from hospital.

Dani comes in

Dani comes in;  Kath thought that she was working.   “Coffee break, if that’s OK with you?” is the tetchy reply and she is invited to meet the baby.   

"Does he have a name yet?"

Eileen wonders if the baby has a name yet 

"He's Tyler"

and Liv rather hesitantly says that he is Tyler.

"You're not serious?"

Dani is incensed by this;  “You’re not serious?” although Kath thinks it is nice, after Dani’s brother.   

"Going out of your way to upset us!"

“Typical – going out of your way to upset us!”

"Iolo chose he name, not me!"

Liv stresses that Iolo chose the name, not her, but Dani will not accept that;  

"You're a liar – I know that!"

“You’re a liar – I know that!”   

"Someone is trying to sleep here"

Eileen reminds her that someone is trying to sleep here, but Dani quickly leaves, without bothering about her coffee;  “I’m not staying here with her!”

"How could you?"

Mark is extremely angry;  “How could you?   You let me believe that Cheryl had run away and you knew the truth the whole time!”

"Things are more complicated than that"

Gaynor protests that she did not know the truth the whole time and things are a lot more complicated than that.

"Cheryl warned you about Tom"

“Cher warned you about Tom many times!” he rages.

Gaynor points out that she went back to him;  “She left you, he left me – 

"How was I expected to believe anything she said?"

how was I expected to believe anything she said after that?”

"Perhaps you were part of this from the beginning"

Mark insists that the fact is, she did not want to know – perhaps she was part of this from the start.   “You had a murderer’s secret – you didn’t go to the police!   

"You didn't give a damn about Cheryl!"

“You didn’t give a damn about Cheryl – you just wanted her boyfriend.”

"You didn't do much to save her, either!"

Gaynor turns on him, “You didn’t do much to save her, either, did you?”   

He is about to walk out 

He has had enough and turns to leave the house, although she urges him to stay.   

"I have something else to tell you"

“I have something else to tell you too,” but we do not learn what that is.

"I have got a job, you know"

Howard arrives back at the farmhouse, reminding Sioned, “I have got a job – and it’s busy, especially when the boss is out playing ‘Ffarmwr Ffowc’!   Where is he?”

"He's in the lambing shed"

She hands him the paper and explains, “In the lambing shed.”   

"I'd better get there, then"

Howard realises that he is on his own there and, as Sioned is worried about the sheep, he had better get out there quickly.

"Liv!"

Iolo is back from his plumbing job and calls for Liv, 

She is nowhere to be seen

but she is nowhere to be seen;  he is very worried.

Dani is looking downcast

Dani is sitting in the Deri, looking very downcast, when Kath brings over a cup of tea and sits down at the table with her.   “I’m not going to pretend that I know how you feel, Dani, because, thank goodness, I haven’t been through what you’ve been through.   

"Getting angry with Liv won't help anyone"

“But do you know what?   Getting angry with Liv won’t help anyone.”

"You don't know her, Kath"

Dani mutters that Kath does not know her.  

"She has suffered as well"

“I know that she has suffered as well, recently.

"She'll take advantage of it"

“Oh, don’t worry, she’ll take advantage of it – that’s what she does – gets people feeling sorry for her and then plays them against each other.   The baby of the family, getting away with absolutely everything.”   

"You're being a bit hard on her now"

Kath accuses her of being a bit hard on Liv now.

"Now she wants to steal his name"

“She almost killed Tyler – did you know that?  She wasn’t sorry – and now she wants to steal his name.”   Kath insists that Iolo named the baby.   

"She said that because Iolo was not there"

“She just said that because Iolo was not there to correct her,” is Dani’s answer.

'"Give her a chance, Dani"

Once again, she is urged to give Liv a chance, to find out what she has to say.   Dani does not think that Kath understands;  

"The sooner she's out of our lives, the better!"

“The sooner she’s out of our lives, the better!”   This attitude troubles Kath.

"Iolo chose the name, honest"

In the deli, Liv is trying to convince Eileen, “Iolo chose the name, honest.”   Eileen is not surprised and Liv points out that she did not order the large slice of cake which has been put down on the table;  

Iolo is outside

she is told that it would go in the bin otherwise.

Just then, Iolo is passing and notices her inside;  he is not at all happy.   

"What are you doing here?"

“What are you doing here?”   

"I fancied a walk"

Liv replies that she fancied a walk, but he continues, “So you brought Ty out amongst all these germs?”

"We've been awarded five stars!"

Eileen stops him there, stressing that the café is very clean and has been awarded five hygiene stars.   This does nothing to persuade him, but he simply continues, “He’s just left hospital!”

"It's none of your business, Eileen"

Eileen points out that no damage has been done, but he rather brusquely informs her that it is none of her business.   

"I'm taking him home!"

He is adamant that he is taking the baby home now and walks out of the deli, 

Eileen sympathises with Liv

leaving Liv sitting at the table.

"They've released Cheryl's body"

Gaynor informs Mark that they have released Cheryl’s body;  “The police contacted me as the next of kin.”   

"Why are you telling me this?"

He wonders why she is telling him this, so she explains, “Well, you knew her best – you loved her – 

"You should decide what happens to her now"

“and I think you should decide what happens to her now.”

Mark walks out . . .

This is too much for Mark to handle and he walks out of the house without a further word, 

. . . and Gaynor is left in tears

leaving Gaynor in tears.

"The sheep and lamb are doing well"

Sioned is tidying up at Penrhewl when Howard and Mathew come back;  Howard report that the sheep and lamb are doing well.   

"I didn't do badly for an idiot, did I?"

“I didn’t do badly for an idiot, did I?” comments Mathew, but he appreciates, “You must have had kittens after seeing this printout.”

She suspects that he left it out on purpose, 

"It's like riding a bike"

but he replies that he needed a refresh;   “Like I said, it’s like riding a bike.”   

"You wait until there are twins or triplets"

Howard tells him to wait until he has to deliver twins, or even triplets.   

"It will be a while before I'm a fully qualified bumpkin like you"

Mathew realises that it will be a while before he is a fully qualified bumpkin like them, but that is what he is aiming for.

“Now I’m going back to the shed – 

"You have work to do at APD"

“and you have work to do at APD,” he instructs Howard, who informs Sioned that the two of them are as bad as each other.   

Sioned is much happier

She is very pleased that things are getting back to something like normal.

"Thinking about leaving him is horrible!"

Liv is confiding to Eileen, “Thinking about leaving him is horrible!”   Eileen knows what she means, but advises whether Liv raises him or not, she will always be his mother.

"I gave away a child once"

“Like I told you, I gave away a child once – Angela – 

"You have to concentrate on yourself"

“I wanted to keep her more than anything, but it just wasn’t possible.   What do you have to do now is concentrate on yourself – and do what's right for you.”   

Liv takes her words to heart

This obviously makes Liv think.

Is that a Welsh Dragon?

Kath has gone round to Y Felin, taking with her a red soft toy.   

"That smile will break hearts"

“I couldn’t help myself after meeting him in the café earlier,” she tells Iolo, “That smile will break hearts.”

"I don't think he's learned to smile yet:

Iolo is doubtful that he has learned to smile yet, but Kath maintains that babies are cleverer than you think.  

"Any chance of a cwtch?"

“Any chance of a cwtch?”   

This catches Iolo by surprise

Iolo looks rather askance at this request, 

"With the baby, not you!"

until she points out, “With the baby, not you!”

"He's just gone up for a nap"

Iolo explains that the baby has just gone up for a nap, but is sure that he would love to have a cwtch with Auntie Kath another time.   

"How long will Liv be here?"

She will look forward to that, then enquires how long Liv will be living with them.

"Not long"

“Not long,” Iolo answers and Kath observes that Dani is not a fan;  

"What happened there?"

she wonders what happened there.   

Liv has just arrived

He is explaining, “Well, Liv has had a colourful past, to be honest,” when the door silently opens and Liv comes in.

“But you were willing to let her babysit Tyler today, weren’t you?” Kath goes on.   

"It will never happen again"

He makes it crystal clear that it will never happen again, 

Liv does not like that

which the eavesdropping Liv finds very concerning.

“Dani’s convinced that Liv named him Tyler in order to wind Dani up – is that true?” asks Kath.   

"That's exactly right"

Iolo sees an opportunity here and lies that she did exactly that, 

"Here comes Mami now"

so Liv then makes her presence known.   “Here comes Mami now,” says Kath, “I’ll go, then – 

"Don't dare call that toy Kathleen!"

“and don’t dare call that toy Kathleen!”

"We need a chat!"

As soon as she has gone, Liv maintains that they need a chat and Iolo agrees that they do;  

"We can sort this adoption out"

“Because I spoken to my solicitor and she can see us tomorrow, so that we can sort out this adoption once and for all.  

"When we've signed, I want you out!"

“And once we’ve signed the papers, I want you to move out.”

"I'm being thrown out tomorrow?"

She cannot believe that she is being thrown out tomorrow, 

"That's best for all of us"

but he considers that is the best for the three of them – a fresh start for them all.   He goes upstairs, 

She cannot believe her ears

while Liv stand there, stunned by this proposal.

A romantic meal at Penrhewl 

is dark when Mathew returns to the farmhouse and finds that Sioned has just lit a candle on the kitchen table for their meal.   

"It's my way of saying sorry"

“It’s my way of thanking you for today – and of saying sorry for not trusting you.”   

"You don't have to do that, Sioned"

He insists that she does not have to do that, 

"The next few weeks are going to be hectic"

but she reminds him that the next few weeks are going to be extremely hectic, so she wants to look after him.

“I’d better get used to this way of life, then,” he says, but she points out that he really has to want it.   

"I'm committed"

He takes her hand, assuring her that he is committed, 

Sioned smiles

and she smiles.

Mark drowns his sorrows

In the Deri, Mark appears to be drowning his sorrows and is told to slow down by his mother.   

"I don't want a lecture, Mam"

“I don’t want a lecture, Mam,” he groans;  nor does he want to talk about Gaynor.

"Gaynor wants him to organise Cheryl's funeral"

Dani, who is next to him at the bar, explains, “Gaynor wants him to arrange Cheryl’s funeral.”   

"Rather than abusing his kidney"

Kath imagines that would be a good thing to help him move on, rather than abusing his kidney.   She demands how many he has had.

"I'm going to the toilet, if that's all right"

He struggles from the stool and heads, rather unsteadily, to the gents.   

"Do you need help to take him home?"

Kath wonders if Dani needs any help taking him home, but she says that Cai can help her.

"We were going to drink here, but . . .~"

“We were going to have a drink here, but we can have one at home now,” 

Kath knows what is going on

urging Kath, who is wearing a knowing look, 

"Don't say anything, right?"

not to say anything.

Liv brings young Tyler downstairs . . .

During the night, Liv creeps downstairs quietly, carrying the baby, plus a sheet of paper, 

. . . leaves a note . . .

which she puts down on the table.   

. . . looks at the baby . . .

She looks lovingly at her son, 

. . . and leaves Y Felin 

then as quietly as possible opens the door and leaves the house.
