Iolo is thinking

Iolo is sitting, looking pensive, at the breakfast table (where the milk has not been put back in the fridge);  Lleucu comes downstairs and comments that he is up early.   His reply is that he could not sleep.

"Crochet?"

Cai is also up and laughs when he finds that Lleucu has been doing some crochet;

"I thought old women did crochet"

“I thought old women did crochet,” he sneers.

"You're so old-fashioned"

She describes him as, “So old-fashioned.   I was trying to make a scarf but I’ve turned it into a blanket – what do you think?   It’s cute, isn’t it?”

"It will be great for Tyler when he comes back"

Iolo maintains that it will be great for Tyler when he comes back.

"What do you mean?"

When Lleucu wonder what he means, he cheerfully replies, “The inspection is this morning – they’ll see what a sort of place that junkie lives in.”

"Liv doesn't do drugs any more"

Cai interrupts to point out that Liv does not do drugs any more.

"We don't know that, Cai"

“We don’t know that, Cai – who knows when she might get back on the stuff.   As soon as Social Services see her circumstances, little Tyler will be back here,

"Safe with us, where he belongs"

“safe with us, where he belongs,” Iolo confidently asserts.

Cai remains silent

Cai does not make any comment.

Anita comes into the kitchen

At number 7, Anita makes her unsteady way into the kitchen, where Ieuan is looking at his phone;

"Aren't you going to work today?"

“Aren’t you going to work today?”

"I'm just sorting this out"

He replies that he is just taking a minute to sort out what he has in his hand.

"This is a 'Red Button'"

“I forgot to show you this,” he says, “A red button – what do you do is to wear this around your neck with the keys.

"Press it if you need help"

“And then you press it if you need anything – if you’re in trouble, you need help – or you need me.

"I'll be with you immediately"

“All you have to do is press it and I’ll be with you immediately.”

She is not in favour of these carers

She likes the sound of that and as he puts it over her head, he informs her that the carer will be there in a little while, something which she obviously does not relish.

"I told you, didn't I?"

Mark is looking at the laptop in the Deri flat when he exclaims, “Oh!   I told you, didn’t I?   The insurance company has agreed to pay for everything.”

"What?   The dodgy telly too?"

“What?   The dodgy telly, too?” asks his mother, who cannot believe it.

Who are Trojan Insurance?"

The e-mail appears to have come from ‘Trojan Insurance’, not ‘Zeppelin’, from whom the claim was made – which raises some questions.   “And the rest of the stuff that Howard . . ?”

"Yes, it's all included"

Mark agrees that it is all included as well.

This is a great relief

They are both very relieved;  “Griffiths will be happy, won’t he? – and Anita, poor dab.

"Now you can arrange Cheryl's funeral"

“Now you can go ahead and arrange Cheryl’s funeral – what do you have in mind?”

He says that he has booked the crematorium, but thinks that it does not feel right somehow;

"Cheryl wasn't like everyone else . . ."

“Everything is so depressing, isn’t it?   You know, like every other funeral I’ve been to.   Cheryl wasn’t like everyone else, was she?

". . . I don't know what I'm going to do"

“I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

"Have you heard anything?"

Now Iolo is sitting anxiously in the deli when Lleucu comes in to ask if he has heard anything yet.

"Americano with oat milk, please"

She orders an Americano with oat milk

Iolo's phone sounds

and suddenly Iolo’s phone sounds.

"Yes, speaking"

He quickly answers it, while Diane, at the counter asks Lleucu how school is going;

"There's a lot of coursework"

she is told that there is a lot of coursework to do, but Lleucu does not mind because she has history today.

"No – you're not serious?"

Iolo has obviously had bad news, as he exclaims, “No – you’re not serious?    She’s not fit to look after herself, never mind a baby!   Has she?   Since when?

"And you're satisfied with that?"

“And you’re satisfied with that?

"There's nothing more to say, then"

“Well, there’s nothing more to say, then, is there?”

Diane is listening

Diane is sitting at a nearby table with the Western Post and has been taking notice of this;

"She's found another flat . . ."

Iolo informs Lleucu that Liv has found another flat and they are satisfied with the set-up.

". . . I think I've lost him, Lleucs!"

“I think I’ve lost him, Lleucs!”

"That's a relief, Kath"

Kath has gone to number 7 to pass on the good news to Ieuan, who regards it as a huge relief and is very grateful to Kath.

"What's the matter, Howard?"

Then he receives a phone call from Howard at APD and demands what has happened.

Anita also wonders what has happened, but Kath assures her that there is no need to worry about that now as it is all sorted.   “How are things with you?” she adds.

"We could have a chocolate eclair"

Anita seems to totally ignore that but suggests that they could have a cup of tea and a chocolate eclair, then they can put the world to rights.

"Diane's staying for a chat"

She announces to Ieuan that Kath is staying for a cup of tea and a chat.

"The carer should be here any minute"

He is pleased to hear that, as a delivery has just arrived at APD and Howard is no help at all.   He promises that the carer should be there any minute and quickly leave the house.

"Or someting stronger?"

“Do you want tea or coffee – or something stronger?” enquires Anita.

"She hasn't got any money"

At the deli, Iolo goes on, “I just don’t understand how she’s got another flat, just like that – she hasn’t got any money.”

"Perhaps she got one from the Social"

Lleucu suggests that she might have got one for free from the Social.   “What am I going to do, Lleucs?” he whines.

Lleucu does not think there is much he can do as they have made their decision;

"I could get a takeaway for us"

she suggests that she could pick up a takeaway for them on her way home tonight, as her treat, then she leaves.

"I'm worried about little Tyler"

Iolo is about to follow, but is stopped by Diane;  “I couldn’t help overhearing – are you all right?”   Iolo points out that this is not about him, but he is just worried about little Tyler.

"Do you honestly think he's in danger?"

“Do you honestly think he’s in danger?

"I'm not supposed to do this, but . . ."

“Look, I’m not supposed to do this, but I’ll have a word with Gail, in Social Services, to try and find out what’s going on.   Perhaps that will give you some peace of mind.”

"I haven't put whisky in these"

Kath brings in two mugs of tea, assuring Anita, “I haven’t put whisky in these,”

"It's a bit early for whisky"

but Anita thinks it is rather early for whisky.

"What can I do for you, then?"

Then she asks, “What can I do for you, then?”

"I popped over to see how things are"

Kath replies that she just popped over to see how things are.

"Who's that?"

There is a knock at the door and Anita demands to know who it is.   She is told that it is going to be the carer, as Ieuan said.

"I don't need anyone today!"

“No!” Anita insists, “I don’t need anyone today!”   It is suggested that they better open the door, but again she stresses that she does not need anyone.

“Look, Anita, she’ll just want to know that you are all right,” Kath continues,

She bolts the door

but she will not change her mind and bolts the door.    As Kath continues to tell her to open the door and let the carer in,

Anita arms herself with scissors . . .

Anita picks up a handy pair of scissors

. . . and keeps Kath at bay

and brandishes them in a very threatening manner at Kath.

"Why didn't you tell them I was on my way?"

As a customer leaves APD with his purchase, Ieuan cannot understand why Howard did not tell the company that he was on his way.   Howard protests, “I did, but they were in a hurry –

"I offered to sign"

“I offered to sign, but they needed the signature of the person who made the order.”

Then a strange noise starts sounding . . .

Ieuan says that he will sort it out now, but suddenly he hears a strange buzzing noise and cannot work out from where it is coming.

. . . and is traced to Ieuan's phone

Then he realises that it is his mobile phone,

"Anita's panic button!"

indicating that the panic button has been activated, so he drops everything and dashes back home.

"Anita, are you there?"

Meanwhile, someone is peering through the letterbox at number 7 and banging on the door;  Diane is passing and asks what is going on.

Ieuan arrives with his key . . .

The stranger, who is apparently the carer, cannot get any answer, but Ieuan has arrived and tries to open the door with his key,

. . . but the door is bolted

but finds that it is firmly bolted.

Anita is still wielding the scissors

Inside, Anita, still wielding the scissors,

"Ieuan's here now"

is assured by Kath that everything is fine and that Ieuan is now there,

"Why are you here?"

but Anita does not seem to be aware why Kath is there.

How about trying the back door?   They are usually kept unlocked

“Everything’s all right – just open the door, will you, please?” comes Ieuan’s voice from outside.

"I just popped in"

Kath again explains that she just popped in, but Anita protests that Kath has never ‘popped in’ to see her before.

"Anita – what's going on?"

Now Ieuan is looking through the letterbox, demanding what is going on, and he can see Kath, who confirms that everything is fine in there.

She goes on, “OK, listen, I came over here to talk to Ieuan about the accident at Maes-y-Deri the other day – do you remember?   The water tap?”

"Oh - the taps!"

Indeed Anita does remember.

For some reason she shouts Colin's name . . .

“Colin!” Anita exclaims, becoming increasingly upset, so Kath carefully takes the scissors from her,

. . . as Kath relieves her of the scissors

assuring her that everything is all right.   She is now going to open the door to let Ieuan in.

"What upset you, Anita?"

He is naturally very concerned, wanting to know what upset her;  the carer and Diane follow him in.

He explains to Anita that this is Stacie, the carer,

"I don't want Stacie!"

but she is having none of this,

"I'll look after Anita today"

so he agrees that he will look after Anita today.

The poor girl is scared stiff

Stacie looks completely out of her depth here and is shepherded out of the house by Diane,

Kath has not recovered from the shock

while Kath is still shocked, standing at the bottom of the stairs.

Mark asks for another one

In the Deri, Mark is celebrating his good fortune when Howard comes in with a catalogue;  “My nerves were in tatters,” Mark admits,

"There was no need to worry"

but Howard insists that there was no need to worry, as it would have cost more to send someone out to check things.

"How about a pint of lager as well"

He proposes that in addition to his 30%, a pint of lager should be included as well.

"I don't want to be bothered with that"

Mark does not want to be bothered with the catalogue now, but Howard is insistent, hoping to get a sale

"We could offer a tidy discount"

“and is sure that APD could offer a tidy discount to a loyal customer.

"I can't think about that right now"

“Look, I can’t think about that right now,” says Mark, but is told that they have to move quickly.   “Why?   So you can get another cut of the insurance money?   I’m not in the mood, all right?”

He heads upstairs, leaving Howard . . .

With that, he heads upstairs, as the two pints of lager are supplied by Geraint

. . . to pay for the drinks, again

and it appears that Howard will have to pay for them, again.

"And they didn't say who this friend is?"

Iolo is speaking on the phone;  “And they didn’t say who this friend is?   Well, that’s guaranteed –

"Thanks for phoning, Diane"

“thanks for phoning, Diane.”

Lleucu has just returned with the takeaway meal, recommending that they eat it before it gets cold;

Lleucu calls for her father

she calls her father from upstairs.   “I got you a Chicken Jalfrezi.”

"What's the reason for this feast?"

He wonders what is the reason for this feast

"She's moved to a new flat"

and is told, “Iolo got a bit of bad news this morning – she’s moved to a new flat, somewhere better, apparently, perhaps through Social.”

"That's a good thing, isn't?"

Cai regards it as a good thing, but Iolo thinks otherwise;

"Someone gave her the money"

“No, it’s not, because I know exactly how she got that flat now – someone gave her the money – they’ve paid the deposit for the flat and the rent until the Social finds her a place.”

"Diane has a contact"

He explains that Diane has a contact who was part of the inspection,

"That's illegal"

but Cai points out that it is illegal to reveal confidential information like that.   As far as Iolo is concerned that does not matter,

"I've got a chance of getting him back!"

“Because if I find that ‘friend’, I’ve got a chance of getting him back!  It’s drug money, Cai, guaranteed!   There’s no telling what Liv will do to repay that money.   If I can prove it, no way will Liv be able to keep Tyler.”

"It's me – I'm the friend"

“It’s me – I’m the friend,” reveals Cai,

Iolo cannot believe it

which comes as a surprise to both of them.   “I gave Liv the money.”

Mark looks at photos of Cheryl

Mark is looking through old photographs of Cheryl,

Howard brings a peace offering

when Howard comes up from the bar;  “I’m really sorry about going on about the kitchen earlier – I totally forgot about the funeral.”

"It must be hard"

He hands Mark a whisky, adding, “It must be hard.”

"This is at Rhyl"

Mark shows him one of the photos, of Cheryl as a child on a beach, explaining that it is Rhyl.

"It didn't look that good when I was there"

Howard remembers that he went there once on a stag do and the place did not look that good when he was there.

“If you had said that in front of Cheryl, she would have punched you,” comments Mark.

"I've been thinking . . . "

“Listen, Howard, I’ve been thinking about what I want to do with her ashes –

". . . and I need your help"

“and I need your help.”

Iolo stares at Cai

Cai is eating his curry as Iolo stares accusingly at him;

"She loves that baby"

“Look, you have to understand that she loves that baby – they’re both doing great.   She deserves the chance to try and be a mother this time.”

"That's not your decision to make"

Iolo snarls that is not his decision to make;  “Perhaps,” Cai continues,

"It's not yours, either"

“But it’s not your decision to make, either.”

She asked me to be his father"

“She asked me to be his father, Cai – that’s what I’m trying to do here!”

"Don't you think you're being a bit selfish"

“Don’t you think you’re being a bit selfish?” Cai suggests, “Is there something else behind this?   Perhaps you’re reliving losing Tyler and that’s why you can’t let go – because you’ve already lost him once?”

Iolo does not like these home truths

Iolo is becoming emotional and insists that is not true;

"You have no idea how I feel!"

“You have no idea how I feel, Cai,” storming off upstairs.

"Surely you understand, Mwncs?"

Cai is sure that his daughter must understand,

"No, I don't!"

but she makes it quite clear that she does not.

Anita is dozing . . .

Anita is asleep as Ieuan is explaining on the phone, “As I said, I couldn’t be there for personal reasons.   We need the order tomorrow.”

. . . until she imagines she hears running water

Anita suddenly sits up, imagining that she can hear the sound of running water;

She is concerned that a tap is on

she goes into the kitchen, concerned that the taps are turned on, which they are not,

"Did you turn the bathroom taps off?"

then demands, “Did you turn the taps off in the bathroom?”

"Ieuan, answer me!"

and continues to repeatedly demands Ieuan’s attention.

"Be quiet, Anita!"

He bellows at her, “Be quiet, Anita!”

This causes some upset

which reduces her to a terrible state and he has to abandon the phone call

"I'm sorry, Anita"

She sits down, inconsolably, on the sofa, while he apologises for his outburst,

"I didn't mean to raise my voice"

insisting that he did not mean to raise his voice and he did not mean it.

"I've just been under pressure recently"

“I’ve just been under pressure recently –

Equilibrium seem to have been restored

“I’m so sorry.”

Iolo brings down Cai's bag . . .

Lleucu is sitting on the sofa with her crochet when Iolo returns downstairs carrying Cai’s bag,

. . . and deposits it on the floor

which he drops theatrically on the floor.

"Where am I supposed to go?"

“You’re throwing me out?   Where am I supposed to go?”

"That's not my problem

Iolo maintains that is not his problem.

"Tell him, Lleucu"

Cai calls upon Lleucu to back him up, but she does not do so,

"Why would you choose Liv over your own family?"

unable to understand why he would choose Liv over his own family.

"It's not a matter of choosing"

Cai maintains that it is not a matter of choosing,

"Well, what is it, then?"

so she wants to know what it is.   Iolo wants him out now,

Cai gives up and leaves the house

so Cai picks up the bag and walks out of the house, into what sounds like a heavy rainstorm.

Iolo sits down at the table

Iolo sits down at the table.
