"Have a good day, Madge"

Madge has just bought something from Colin in the shop and as she leaves, meets Britt who is coming in, looking anxious.   

"Col, we need to go to the school!"

“Col, we need to go to the school – Kylie!   She’s refusing to work, answering back, playing up.”

They both think that is not like Kylie and Britt says that she was not herself this morning.   

"Eileen will be after my blood!"

“I can’t go now – Eileen will be after my blood if I close the shop,” he points out.

Britt flies off the handle once more;  “So I have to deal with it again?”   

"I'll come over to the flat when Eileen gets back"

He replies that he will come over to the flat once Eileen is back.   

Britt is furious as usual

She marches angrily out of the shop, 

"Cool head now, Britt!"

as Colin shouts to her not to get angry with Kylie, 

"Who would raise children, then?"

then has to calm down to serve the next customer, who is Llinos.   He comments, “Who would raise children, then?”

"Can we talk now, please?"

At Bryntirion, Jason begs his mother, “Can we talk now, please?”   There is a knock at the door;  

"I heard you were home"

Jason finds that it is Rhys, who had heard that he was home.   “Good news travels fast, doesn’t it?” says Jason.

“I want the truth about what’s been going on in the van!” Rhys insists, 

"I don't know the answer, Rhys!"

but Jason does not know the answer.   

"Ceffyl Du is suffering!"

“People think I am involved – and Ceffyl Du is suffering – it was dead last night!”

"That's not my fault!"

Jason points out, “That’s not my fault!” but is reminded that he has been charged.   

"Wrongly!"

“Wrongly!” Jason snarls, begging his mother to say something.

“There we are – Mami will look after you,” sneers Rhys 

"What's that supposed to mean?"

and Diane demands what that is supposed to mean.   Rhys wonders if she will help him to clear his name.

"It's a 'cop-out'!"

“I can’t do anything until the police say something publicly,” she growls, so she is accused of simply protecting her son.   

"I'm not going to listen to this!"

Diane is not going to stay there and listen to this, picks up her coat and leaves the house.

"She's finding this hard enough as it is"

“She’s finding this hard enough as it is,” Jason explains, 

"Tell everyone what's going on"

so is invited by Rhys to tell everyone what is going on, so that he – and Jason’s mother – can move on.

"Don't you think I want to move on?"

“Don’t you think I want to move on?   I can’t move on, can I, Rhys?   

"Only one person knows – DJ!"

“Only one person knows what’s been going on here, all right?   DJ!”     

"It won't be yet"

At the breakfast table in Penrhewl, Howard asks, “When are we being kicked out, then?”   Sioned assures him that it will not be yet, as her mother has not accepted the offer officially yet.   

"But it will happen"

Mathew assumes that she will do and Sioned describes it as too good an offer to turn down.

"I don't know whether I'm coming or going"

She admits, “With this and DJ, I don’t know whether I'm coming or going this week.”   

"Remember we're here for you"

Howard reassures her that they are here for her through it all, for which she is grateful.   

"I'll go and get Lili ready"

She will go and get Lili ready;  “Mam will be here to take her to Elinor now – 

"Don't say anything to Mam"

“and don’t say anything to her – this isn’t easy for Mam either.”

"We should lift her spirits"

Howard suggests that they could do something to lift her spirits, 

"How do we do that?"

but Matthew wonders how they will do that.   “The swing is almost ready – perhaps today is the day,” Howard goes on, “I can come down to APD to do the finishing touches, then you can help me to bring it up here?”   

"Yes, OK"

Mathew agrees, but not very enthusiastically.

"Do you really think DJ would do that?"

At Bryntirion, Rhys asks, “Do you really think DJ would do something like that?   Work with the drugs gang and let you take the blame?”   

"There's no other answer"

Jason maintains that there is no other answer.   “It just doesn’t sound like DJ, that’s all,” Rhys muses.

"It does sound like me, does it?"

“Right – and it does sound like me, does it?” Jason demands.   

"Well, you did run away"

Rhys recalls that he did run away – and lie.

"I was starting to get everything back on track"

“I’ve done a lot of stupid things in my life, yes, I accept that, but I was starting to get everything back on track – I was starting to gain Ifan’s trust again.   

"I would never risk losing Ifan like this!"

“And now, because of this, Sara is threatening to never let me see him again.   I would never risk losing Ifan like this, Rhys!   Why don’t you believe me?   

"Why doesn't anyone believe me?"

“Why doesn’t anyone believe me?”

There is the sound of the back door, which Jason assumes is his mother again, so Rhys, who is now becoming more sympathetic, will leave them to talk, 

Then the back door opens . . .

but then they see 

. . . and DJ walks in

that it is DJ who has come in through the back door.

"Ieuan wants to make a council statement"

As they sit outside APD with cups of tea, Diane tells Anita, “Ieuan wants us to make a statement on behalf of the council, condemning Fflamingos.”

"How are you coping – and Jason?"

Anita urges her to forget about the council for a minute and asks how she is coping – and Jason.   

"I thought he'd turned over a new leaf"

“I really thought he’d turned over a new leaf this time – but what if it’s a lie again?” groans D iane.

"Where's the van?"

Mathew comes out and demands where the van is;  Anita was under the impression that he and Howard had it, but they have Penrhewl’s truck.   

"Ammanford?"

Then Anita remembers, or at least thinks she remembers, that the tiling team said they were taking it to . . . Ammanford.

"It's really important to keep a record"

“It’s really important that we keep a record of who takes the van!” Mathew insists, “Write it down or something – do you mind phoning them to check, please?”

"How have you found Jason recently?"

As he is about to go back inside APD, Anita asks, “How have you found Jason recently?   Has he been acting strangely?   You know – suspicious or nervous?”   

"He's more like himself since coming back"

Mathew has not noticed anything, adding that he is more like himself since coming back;  “He’s working hard, trying to make up for . . . you know.”

"That doesn't sound like someone who hides drugs"

Then she points out to Diane, “That doesn’t sound like someone who hides drugs in a van, does it?”   

"He's used to hiding things"

Diane knows  very well that Jason is used to hiding things;  she wants to believe him, but is not sure that she can any more.

"A drugs raid, DJ!"

“A drugs raid, DJ!” snarls Jason, “In a horse-box!   Your father is worried sick, Mam is driving herself mad – and you disappeared!”   

"I needed time to think"

His answer is that he needed time to think.

“About what?” Jason demands.   DJ whimpers that he just panicked when he saw the cops and Jason being arrested.   He did not know what was going on and wonders why Rhys is there.   

"I want an explanation as well!"

Rhys is demanding an explanation as well.

"I'll contact you – all right?"

“And you’ll get one – but let me talk to Jason first,” DJ tells him.   Rhys is reluctant, but Jason persuades him to go.

"This is your mess, isn't it?`"

“This is your mess, isn’t it?   The drugs you found in the nightclub – isn’t it?”   Eventually DJ confesses that it is.   “Right, well, give me one good reason why I shouldn’t call the pigs now!” Jason snarls.

"I'm going to confess later"

“You don’t need to, because I’m going down there later to confess everything,” DJ begins, so Jason and enquires what he is doing there, in that case.   “I came to see you – I had to apologise.   Listen, I was desperate, Jase – I needed money for the kids.”

"The plan didn't involve breaking the law"

Jason reminds him that they had a plan – a plan that did not involve breaking the law.   

"You would have done the same for Ifan"

“But it wasn’t enough – Sioned was struggling – I had to do something.   You must understand – you would have done the same for Ifan!”

"Not anything as extreme as this!"

Jason is adamant that he would not have done anything as extreme as this, 

"It was supposed to be a small job"

and DJ goes on, “It was supposed to be a small job – quick cash – I didn’t expect it to get out of hand – I tried to pull out lots of times, 

"They threatened Ifan"

“but they threatened the twins – and Ifan.”

The police are still around

As Diane and Anita walk towards the Deri, a police officer is still asking questions.   “We’ll have lunch in the Deri and forget all about it,” proposes Anita, but Diane responds that is easier said than done.

Rhys hurries across

Rhys approaches them and 

"We don't want any trouble"

Anita insists that they do not want any trouble, 

"I just want to apologise"

but Rhys just wants to apologise, confessing that he should not have snapped at them;  he was just frustrated with the way the whole thing is affecting Ceffyl Du.

Diane again advises that she cannot agree to make a statement before the police say something.   

"It's not fair to blame Jason"

He adds that it is not fair to wrongly blame Jason, either.   Diane remembers that he was after Jason’s blood earlier on, and he now explains that there are two sides to every story.

"I know where DJ Ashurst is"

He goes across the road to where a police officer is standing and tells her, “I know where DJ Ashurst is and where you can find him.”   Diane is watching from outside the Deri.

"Have you any idea what you've done?"

Jason demands, “Have you any idea what you’ve done?”   

"I wish I could turn the clock back"

DJ whines that he wishes that he could turn the clock back.   

"I could be facing years in prison!"

Jason continues, “I could be facing years in prison – and Sara doesn’t want me to see Ifan again!”

DJ is in tears as he insists how sorry he is, 

"You ruined my life!"

but Jason insists, “You have ruined my life!”

DJ promises to clear his name and then everything will be all right;  Jason is understandably not convinced, as he goes on, “I just need to do one thing first.”   Jason looks malevolently at him.

Colin is very anxious

Colin is sitting very anxiously on the sofa in the MFC flat when Britt returns with Kylie;  “No – in the front room, please,” says Britt, 

"Let her go to her room if she wants"

but Colin tells her to allow Kylie to go to her room if she wants.

"No – I've wasted half my day!"

“No – I’ve wasted half my day speaking to the head of year!” Britt moans, 

Kylie is in tears

“And she didn’t say a word in the car!”

"If she wants peace, give her some peace, Britt!"

Colin admonishes her, “If she wants some peace, give her some peace, Britt!”   However, she is adamant that Kylie is not going to hide in her room, but they need to sort this out now.

Meanwhile, Kylie is in tears;  

He cannot understand why she is crying

Colin cannot understand why she is crying.   

"You argue all the time!"

“You!” she exclaims, “You argue all the time – I hate it!”   

This comes as a shock to them

Colin looks devastated by this obvious revelation.

Howard comes in . . .

Sioned is having a snack in the farm kitchen when Howard comes in;  

. . . asking how Jac is today

“Is little Jac behaving today?”   

Sioned replies that the medicine is doing the trick, adding, “Will you keep an eye on him for ten minutes so I can check the stock?” she continues, but he says that he is in the middle of something at the moment.   

"Is it a broken fence, with sheep escaping?"

“Is it a broken fence, with the sheep escaping?” she asks, “Well, it can wait ten minutes, then.”   Howard warns her not to be too long.

"How are you, Jac?"

He goes over to Jac and enquires, “How are you, Jac?”   

He looks quite content

The child looks up at him.

"All couples argue now and again"

Colin tries to explain to Kylie that all couples argue now and again, but that does not mean they want to upset her.   

"That's our problem, anyway"

Britt agrees that it is their problem anyway.   Kylie is aware of that, but recalls that her Mam used to argue with her boyfriend a lot;

"They used to throw things"

“They said horrible things and used to throw things.   I don’t know why I’m upset – it’s ages ago now.”

"We don't throw things . . . "

Colin realises that the memories are still there, but reassures her that they do not throw things;  

". . . Britt bangs doors and cupboards sometimes"

“Britt bangs doors and cupboards sometimes but – sorry we brought those memories back”

"We'll go for a walk in the fresh air"

Britt also apologises, and Colin suggests, “Why don’t you change out of your school uniform, we’ll have lunch and then go out for a walk to get some fresh air.”   

"I'm sorry, love"

On her way back to her room, Britt gives her a hug.

"I feel terrible now"

When she has gone, Britt says that she feels terrible and he comments, “We’re supposed to give her a safe, comforting home – we’re supposed to look after her, not upset her.   

"Listen, you need to forget about Cai . . ."

“Look, you need to forget about Cai and put Kylie first – because, if you carry on like this, 

". . . or we're going to lose her"

“we’re going to lose her.”

Out in the farmyard . . .

Sioned walks across the farm yard 

. . . Sioned discovers the swing

and is surprised to discover Mathew with the swing Howard has constructed.

"This was supposed to be a surprise"

He tells her to go away, as this was supposed to be a surprise;  “For me?” she gasps.   

"Howard wanted to bring it today"

He explains that Howard wanted to bring it today from APD for her to see.

“It’s up to you where you want to put it, but to be honest . . .” he continues, 

It is too much for Sioned

then notices that Sioned is crying and ask why she is upset.   

"It's just so lovely"

She replies that it is just so lovely 

Mathew embraces her

and he hugs her.

DJ has brought a bag downstairs . . .

DJ comes downstairs at Bryntirion with a bag, which he places on the table;  

. . . takes out his 'drugs' phone . . .

he picks up a handy cloth 

. . . wipes it clean . . .

and wipes his ‘burner’ phone, to remove any fingerprints, 

. . . and plants it in Jason's pocket

then slips it into the pocket of Jason’s coat, hanging on a chair.

"Did you get what you wanted?"

The door opens and Jason comes in.   DJ says that he got what he wanted from upstairs;  

"Yes, the children's toys and pyjamas"

“Yes, I just wanted to give the toys back to the children,” he alleges, “And their Scarlets pyjamas.”

Jason offers to take them for the children, while DJ goes to the police, 

"One last time"

but he says he would like to do that himself, for the last time.   “But then you’re going straight to the police, do you hear?”   

DJ promises to do so, again stressing how sorry he is for everything.  

"As long as you do the right thing"

 “Well, as long as you do the right thing from now on,” says Jason.

"It's so scary"

As they sit together on the swing, Sioned tells Mathew, “It’s so scary to think I have to start all over again,” 

"Starting over is a good thing"

but Mathew maintains that starting over is a good thing.   

"On my own?"

“On my own?” she demands.

"You don't have to be on your own"

Mathew turns to her;  “You don’t have to be on your own – I’m not going to let you go this time!”

Sioned tells him not to do so and they kiss, sitting on Howard’s swing.

Where are the police when they are needed?

Now DJ is walking down the street in Cwmderi, where the police presence appears to have now evaporated, and presses the button at the door of Elinor’s house.  

Is Elinor unaware of what has been going on?"

 “It’s DJ here – I’ve come to get Lili.   Eileen and Sioned are busy this afternoon.”   He is admitted to the house.

"He was here half an hour ago"

Jason is visited by the police at Bryntirion after Rhys’ tip-off;  “He was here – but I couldn’t phone you – my phone is with you,” he tells them.   He is asked what time DJ left, which was about half an hour ago.   

"He said he was going to confess"

“He said he was going to the police station this afternoon to confess everything – that’s what he told me.”

"Go and check upstairs"

The constable is told to check upstairs, but before she can go, there is the sound of a message alert from Jason’s coat pocket on the chair.   

That nice clean phone now has one set of prints

Much to Jason’s surprise, the phone is recovered, notably without the use of protective gloves, 

It is handed to the DS . . . 

and handed to the DS.

Jason protests that is not his phone and that he has never seen it before;  “Honest – I’ve never seen that phone in my life!”   

. . . where it acquires another set

The DS also puts her fingerprints all over it, 

"Jason Francis, I am arresting you"

then announces, “Jason Francis, I am arresting you on suspicion of perverting the course of justice,” and issues the usual caution.

"DJ put it in my pocket to frame me!"

Jason cannot believe this, protesting, “This is DJ – he put that phone in my pocket to frame me!” 

What an opportune moment for his mother to arrive 

and at that moment Diane walks in, accompanied by Anita, demanding what is going on now.   

"I haven't done anything wrong"

As Jason is led away, he is still protesting that he has not done anything wrong, 

"Your son has been hiding evidence"

but the DS informs Diane, “Your son has been hiding evidence from the police.”

"Should we do something?"

Anita thinks that they should do something, 

"No – I've given him so many chances . . ."

but Diane declares, “No!   I’ve given him so many chances – and all he’s done in return is lie!   

". . . he's on his own this time!"

“He’s on his own this time!”
