Ffion runs through the woodland . . . 

Ffion is on her run through the woodland 

. . . and sees Eleri approaching

when she encounters Eleri, much to her dismay;  

"Damn!"

“Damn!” she mutters to herself then asks, “How long have you been running this way?”

“Technically, I’d call it jogging,” is the reply, “I barely touch seven-and-a-half minute miles.”   

"Burning off all that cheese"

Ffion imagines that she must have to run a lot to burn off all that cheese. 

"I don't have to worry about middle-age spread"

“Well, I don’t have to worry about middle-age spread, thankfully,” says Eleri;  as Ffion scowls about that, 

"Ask Jinx to look for my earring"

she adds, “Ask Jinx to look down the back of your sofa for my earring, will you?   I can’t find it anywhere.”

Then a call comes through on her earphone and she resumes her jog;  

Ffion has an intense dislike of her

Ffion looks disgusted.

"You shouldn't be doing that now"

At the breakfast table in Y Felin, Lleucu is doing her homework and is reprimanded by her father for leaving it so long;  “Sorry, Mr Rossiter,”she replies, 

"Roll on next week!"

“Roll on next week!” and he wonders what is happening next week.   “Work experience,” she tells him, “No school, no homework.”

Cai says that she might have some law books to read, which poses rather a problem for her.   

"I'm not going to Malcolm Edwards"

She is forced to reveal that she is not going to Malcolm Edwards, giving the excuse that his secretary phoned last week to cancel, as they do not have a place for her.

"When were you planning to tell me?"

“When were you planning to tell me?” he wants to know, and she maintains that she forgot, stressing that this is not her fault;  

"I've found somewhere else . . ."

it does not matter anyway because she has found somewhere else.

". . . Dani's cleaning business"

“Dani’s cleaning business,” she rather hesitantly tells her father, 

"No way!"

but he forbids this.   She argues that she has promised and demands what is wrong with a cleaning company.

"It doesn't matter what kind of business"

“It doesn’t matter what sort of business it is, does it?   I can learn to run one all the same,” she goes on, 

"I'll sort it, Lleucu"

but her father is looking at a phone message which has just arrived and insists that he will sort it.   

She storms upstairs

She goes upstairs.

Anita sits at number 7

At number 7, Anita is sitting in what looks to be some sort of trance 

"Ready, Auntie Neet?"

when Kelly calls her, asking if she is ready.   She answers that she is;  she gets up, 

"Right, stay strong"

and is told by Kelly, “Right, stay strong – and I’ll see you later, OK?”   She gives her aunt a kiss, after which she and Ieuan leave the house.   Kelly is fearing the worst.

"She's well-organised and conscientious"

At Y Felin, Cai is speaking on the phone;  “She’s well-organised and conscientious – and she’s not bad at making a cup of tea – that was a joke!    OK, I’ll tell her.”

"Eleri wants you to go and see her"

Lleucu has just come downstairs and is informed, “Eleri wants you to go and see her after school – work experience at Tomos ac Ellis.”   

"You can't do this, Dad!"

Lleucu objects to this, 

"I'm your father"

but he is adamant that he has every right, as he is her father.

Lleucu is furious that he has gone behind her back;  

"I'm not going!"

“I’m not going – how many times do I have to say it?   I’m going to Dani!”

"You could do some translation with me"

Siôn interrupts to say that she could do some translation with him, but she is not keen on that.   Cai tells her to go out to the car, 

"I'm walking to school"

but she replies that she will be walking to school, so he leaves without her.

She apologises to Siôn, “I didn’t mean to seem ungrateful,” but he tells her not to worry;  

"You should find what Eleri has to offer"

he advises that she ought to find out what Eleri has to offer – she might enjoy working there.

Anita is at the memory clinic . . .

Anita and Ieuan arrive at the memory clinic 

. . . where Ieuan holds her hand

and he clasps her hand;  “As you’re already aware, it’s not always possible to give a diagnosis based on one test or scan, but through evaluating the results of the assessment at the memory clinic as well as looking at the statement, 

They are told the diagnosis . . .

“it appears that there are signs of Dementia with Lewy Bodies on the brain.”

. . . while Anita stares intently . . .

Anita is looking fixedly 

. . . at the doctor, enunciating the words

at the lips of the doctor as she is saying this.

Lleucu does go to Tomos ac Ellis 

Lleucu arrives at the Tomos ac Ellis office 

"I haven't been completely honest"

and immediately tells Eleri that she has not been completely honest;  

"Cheaper houses for local people"

“If I had my way I’d sell houses cheaper than their value – to keep local people local.”

"I'm not sure that's how to run a business"

Eleri is not sure that is how to run a business, “But you did choose to do a business course.”   

"The only other option was French"

Lleucu says that was only because the other option was French.   “Is there any reason why you’re applying for a work experience place at an estate agency, then?”   It is revealed that this was her father’s idea, not hers.

As intended, Eleri has been put off

“I don’t want anyone working for me who doesn’t want to be here,” Eleri warns her and Lleucu fully understands that.

Anita is back . . .

Anita arrives back from her appointment;  she is reluctant to talk to Kelly, 

. . . but quickly escapes to bed

but thinks that she will go upstairs and lie down, as she wants to be on her own.   

"Well?"

Kelly asks Ieuan, “Well?”   

"At last we have a name now . . ."

He says that they at least have a name now – they know what is wrong;  

". . . Dementia with Lewy bodies"

he shows her a large blue file, bearing the title, ‘Dementia with Lewy Bodies’.

The tears begin to flow

Kelly takes the file and is reduced to tears 

"The prognosis isn't good"

as Ieuan explains, “The prognosis isn’t good,” 

"Aunty Neet doesn't deserve this"

but now Kelly is in floods of tears and he tries to console her.

“Aunty Neet doesn’t deserve this!” she sobs 

"We'll make sure she never suffers"

and Ieuan promises that they will make the best of things – she will receive treatment and professional support – they will make sure that she never, ever suffers.   

Kelly continues to weep bitterly . . .

Kelly is inconsolable, 

. . . as she is hugged by Ieuan 

as she is hugged by Ieuan.

"I'm reopening The Pizza Place"

Jinx is studying the laptop when Ffion returns to Deri Fawr;  “Right, tomorrow it is – I’m reopening the pizza place – I’ve lost two weeks already,” he tells her, “I’m going to ask Eleri to help me get things back on track.”

"Yeah – of course you are!"

“Yeah – of course you are,” says Ffion, with an exasperated tone;  when he offers to make dinner tonight, she tells him that she has a governors’ meeting.

"How old would  you say Eleri is?"

“How old would you say Eleri is?” she asks and he has no idea.   “You’ve been messing around with her for however long – and you have no idea how old she is?”   He imagines somewhere in the region of 28 or 29.

"Are you serious?"

“Are you serious?” Ffion sneers and he wonders why she is so desperate to know.   She insists that she is not desperate to know.

"Are you feeling your age?"

“What’s wrong with, Ffion?   Are you feeling your age?” he rather inadvisedly comments.   

That did not go down well

She does not appreciate that at all, storming off upstairs

"What exactly did you say to Eleri"

Lleucu arrives back at Y Felin, where her father asks, “What exactly did you say to Eleri?   I’ve just had her on the phone, accusing me of trying to force you to do things you don’t want to do.”   

"Not quite that"

She stresses that she did not exactly say that, but he knows that she did say quite a lot; 

"Did you have to be so honest with her?"

 “Did you have to be so honest with her?”

"Would you rather have a dishonest daughter?"

“Would you rather have a dishonest daughter?” demands Lleucu.   He accuses her of making a mess of the interview on purpose, because she is determined to clean toilets for Dani.

"You're such a snob!"

“You’re such a snob!” she exclaims and her father points out in no uncertain terms, that there are no qualifications for cleaning toilets.   “I’d do a lot more than that – I’d learn how to run a business!” she argues.

"No way you're going to Dani!"

However, her father insists that there is no way he is going to let her go to Dani.   

"It's about this row with Gwern's family"

“That’s what this is, then – it’s not about cleaning toilets, or what’s best for me – it’s about this row with Gwern’s family again!”   

He maintains that she is talking rubbish, 

"You fed guilty about Seren!"

but she continues, “You’re taking it out on me because you feel guilty about Seren!”   

Lleucu seems to have hit a nerve there

Cai realises the truth of what she is saying.

"What's that, Ffion?"

At Deri Fawr, Siôn comes to visit Ffion and asks what the glass box on the table is;  

"Arwen's stick insect"

“Buster, Arwen’s stick insect ,” she replies, “What do you want, Siôn?”   He has come to discuss the campaign.

"That's nice for you!"

“That’s nice for you,” she says, “That you have principles you can hop in and out of.   You thought twice about opposing the dam when you thought Iolo would get work.”

"That's not fair, Ffion"

He regards that as not fair, wanting to know whether she wants him to help or not.   “I never stopped!” she snaps, 

"I've e-mailed half the councillors in South Wales"

“I’ve e-mailed half the councillors in South Wales.”   

He has ideas of more direct action

He advises that it will take more than a letter – what they need are pickets, lobbying and a plan.   

Ffion has some ideas for a website, but he is adamant that they need to talk to people – to influence them.

“This is how I see it,” he begins 

"I don't want you taking over, Siôn!"

and she does not appreciate him changing his colours and just taking over.   

"You won't get anywhere arguing, Ffion"

“We won’t get anywhere arguing, Ffion,” he warns her.

"I understand the board has agreed, but . . ."

Eleri is speaking in English on the phone;  “Yes, I understand that the board have agreed, but are we certain and happy that we have exhausted all avenues regarding this plan?   That’s all I’m asking.   Listen, think about it and I’ll speak to you in the weekly catch-up on Friday, OK?”

Jinx comes in

During this conversation, Jinx has come into the office and she wants to know why he is there;  

"Is Dani busy?"

“Is Dani busy?”   He is surprised that she believes the lie that Ffion told her the other day.   “Why would she lie?” Eleri asks.

"She's protective"

“You know what she’s like – protective,” he says, 

"I don't have time for this"

but Eleri does not have time for this as she is in the middle of something.

"I'm trying to get Quantum to see sense"

“I’m trying to get Quantum to see sense without damaging their ego,” she maintains.   

"I thought you'd stepped back from all that"

He was under the impression that she had stepped back from all of that, but she informs him, “Quite the opposite – Dad’s asked me to take over while he’s away.”

"I'd better go, then"

He realises that his presence is not appreciated there, so is about to go, enquiring if it is all right if he comes over later.   

"Have you found my earring?"

She wonders if he found her earring;  “Ffion was supposed to ask you – never mind – I’ll come and look for it when she’s out.”

“She’s not there tonight,” says Jinx;  Eleri decides that she can look for it tonight, in that case, 

"I don't think that's a good idea"

but he does not consider that to be a very good idea.

Eleri has alternative view on that

“The things that aren’t good ideas are usually the most fun!” she tells him.

"I saw Jinx earlier"

Siôn tells Ffion, “I saw Jinx earlier – he doesn’t seem sure which side he’s on.   He’s staying with you, isn’t he?”   Ffion wonders where this is going, 

"I can see an opportunity"

so he continues, “I can see an opportunity.”

"You want me to use Jinx?"

“You want me to use Jinx?” says Ffion, angrily, “What sort of friend would do that?”   

"That's not what I meant"

Siôn insists that was not what he meant, but at that moment Jinx returns 

"I'd better be going, then"

and Siôn thinks that he had better leave, assuring Ffion that they will talk about this another time

"That was about me, wasn't it?"

“That was about me, wasn’t it?” he suspects, 

"Not everything revolves around you"

but Ffion reminds him that not everything revolves around him.   “What’s your problem, Ffion?” he replies, “You’re nice, not wanting me to leave – 

"Then you bite my head off!"

“and then you bite my head off.”   She growls that she does not have time for this.

"I've slept all day"

Ieuan is sitting on the sofa when Anita returns downstairs, complaining, “I’ve slept all day.”   He is not surprised 

"Kelly has gone to get dinner for us"

and explains that Kelly has gone to get dinner for them, as a little treat.   

"Little moments of joy, is it?"

She remembers, “Little moments of joy, is it?” then continues, “I’m not going to forget you, am I?”

"I'm not going anywhere"

Ieuan assures her that he is not going anywhere;  

"I'll get confused and lose my way"

“But if my body fails, I’ll get confused more and lose my way,” she sighs.

"I'll be here – for better, for worse"

“I’ll be here,” Ieuan promises, “For better, for worse.”   

"Remind me how happy we are"

She wants him to promise to remind her every day how happy they are 

He kisses her

and he kisses her.

Cai has 'hit the bottle'

Siôn is back home at Y Felin, where he finds that Cai has resorted to a bottle of beer;  

"You're not still arguing about work experience?"

“You’re not still arguing about work experience?”   

"Lleucu said I feel guilty about Seren"

Cai regards it as more than that;  “Lleucu said the only reason I don’t want her to go to Dani is because I feel guilty about what happened to Seren.”   

"That may be true"

Siôn agrees that may be true.

"It's like she's accusing me"

“Hearing her say it is like she is accusing me – you weren’t there.   After everything that’s happened, I don’t want her to go to Dani.”   

"Talk to her and tell her why"

Siôn advises him to talk to her in that case and explain why.

"I'm not sure I can explain why"

“That’s the problem – I’m not sure that I can explain why,” replies Cai 

Lleucu is listening from upstairs

and we see that Lleucu has been listening from the top of the stairs.

"Where's Buster?"

Ffion returns from her governors’ meeting, moaning that it was long and boring as usual, then realises that Buster is missing.   Jinx has a confession to make;  “I dropped the box while I was moving some things and it smashed everywhere – 

Buster is safe and well

“but I’ve cleared up the glass and Buster is absolutely fine.”

"I'll buy him a new home tomorrow"

He has been confined in a plastic food container and Ffion concedes that accidents happen;  Jinx will buy him a new home tomorrow, but Ffion insists that there is no need.   “I know what I want!” she snaps.

He assumes that is because she thinks he might drop it again;  

"It might be a good idea for me to go home"

“Look, Ffion, I think it might be a good idea for me to go – home – I’m opening The Pizza Place tomorrow and I might as well go home at the same time.”

"But we're fine here, aren't we?"

“But we’re fine here, aren’t we?” Ffion points out, 

"Have I done something to upset you?"

“Have I done something to upset you?”   

"Not today, no"

He confirms that she has not – today, anyway, so she wonders why they have to change things.

“Because I have my own house in the village,” he tells her and she reminds him that they are company for each other.   “You have Arwen,” he says, 

"But you have no-one"

but she maintains that he has no-one. 

"I have Eleri"

“I have Eleri,” he answers, 

Something is rekindling here, by the look of things

which rather deflates her argument.

"I don't want to fall out"

Cai wants to make peace with his daughter;  “I don’t want to fall out,” he says and she apologises for saying things she did not mean.   

"You need to think before you speak sometimes"

“You need to think before you speak sometimes,” he warns.

"I don't really want to hurt you"

She admits that she only said those things to hurt him, but she really does not want to hurt him.   He tells her, “If that’s what you really want to do, 

"I'm willing to let you work with Dani"

“I’m willing to let you go and work with Dani.”   

"I'll make the best of it, Dad"

She promises that she will make the best of the experience.

Ffion finds Siôn 

Siôn is having a drink at the bar in the Deri when Ffion comes in;  

"I've been thinking about what you said"

“I’ve been thinking about what you said.”   He tries to convince her that he was not asking her to deceive Jinx, but perhaps he can influence Eleri.

"Perhaps he can persuade Eleri"

“I get the impression he’s not in favour of the dam,” Siôn goes on, “Perhaps he can persuade Eleri to change her mind.”

"Whatever gets the job done"

“Whatever gets the job done,” Ffion agrees, but he stresses that it will be without things getting personal.   

She has an ulterior motive

“No?” she replies, “This might be exactly what we need – play the enemy at their own game!”   

"You see Jinx as an enemy?"

Siôn is surprised that she sees Jinx as an enemy.

“No – not Jinx,” she gloats;  Siôn is glad they are both on the same page, stressing that unity is strength.   

"Leave this job to me!"

“Leave this job to me!” Ffion resolutely declares.
