| A confusing start |
The episode surprisingly begins with the previous opening titles, instead of the more familiar view of Cwmderi High Street.

| Delyth with her son, Simon |
A younger-looking Delyth and her son, Simon, get out of her 13-registered car in a rather insalubrious area; he asks where they are going and she tells him it is a surprise.
 |
| "Every report needs to be sent to me" |
Her phone rings and she answers, “Hello, DI Fielding – I haven’t read it because I haven’t received anything. Every report needs to be sent to me from now on, OK?”
 |
| Simon has wandered off |
Meanwhile Simon has wandered away
 |
| "Why are you sitting on the ground?" |
and found a girl, wrapped in a blanket, alongside a vandalised car with no doors. “Why are you sitting on the ground? Do you sleep here?” he asks, “I live in a house, but we might be moving.”
 |
| "You shouldn't talk to strangers" |
The girl advises him, “You shouldn’t talk to strangers,”
 |
| "I've told you before, Simon" |
and then his mother finds him, scolding him for going off on his own.
 |
| She watches them go |
Simon asks if they can give the girl some money,
 |
| "We'll get her something from the café" |
his mother tells him that they can buy something for her in the café.
 |
| "Who is this big boy?" |
Inside the café, Yvonne is waiting for them; “Wow – who is this big boy?” she asks.
 |
| Delyth send Simon to choose something |
Delyth tells Simon to go and choose what he wants to eat.
 |
| "You look lovely" |
They sit down and look lovingly at each other; “You look lovely,” says Delyth
 |
| "You don't look too bad yourself" |
and she is told that she does not look too bad herself,
 |
| They hold hands |
as they hold hands.
 |
| "Are you going to tell me, then . . ." |
The scene shifts to the present, with the newly-appeared Yvonne commenting that the flat is nice; “Are you going to tell me, then?
 |
| ". . . why everyone thought it was my body?" |
“Why everyone I thought it was my body in Gwyneth’s garden?
 |
| "We both know that's not possible" |
“Because we both know that’s not possible, don’t we, Del?”
Delyth breaks her silence; “You can’t be here?”
 |
| "I'm not going anywhere" |
She is emphatically informed that Yvonne is not going anywhere until she receives an answer.
Back in the café, Yvonne is glad that Delyth managed to find the place;
 |
| "If someone from Cwmderi saw me . . ." |
“It’s a bit of a schlep, but we can’t be too careful – if someone from Cwmderi saw me . . .”
 |
| "People have moved on" |
“A certain someone would have to be released from jail first,” Delyth points out, and is reminded that Gwyneth is not their only problem. “People have moved on,” Delyth maintains.
 |
| "The people of Cwmderi have long memories" |
“The people of Cwmderi have long memories,” Yvonne replies.
 |
| "I've been looking for you for years" |
“Where have you been?” Delyth demands, “I’ve been looking for you for years.”
 |
| "Not hard enough, obviously" |
She is advised that she has not been looking hard enough, obviously. “Why didn’t you get in touch with me?” Delyth asks.
 |
| "You said we didn't have a future" |
“You know that I couldn’t – you said we didn’t have a future – not after what happened!”
 |
| Delyth is downhearted |
This is not what Delyth wanted to hear.
Back in the past, Yvonne asks if work is busy; “You could say that,” Delyth replies,
 |
| "Great news – I've been made a DI!" |
“I’ve got some news for you – I’ve been made a DI!
 |
| "Congratulations! |
 |
| "A bigger place – somewhere for three" |
 |
| "I've got something to tell you as well" |
“I’d love to live with you – you know that – but I’ve got something to tell you as well,” Yvonne begins,
 |
| Delyth is distracted by Simon |
but Delyth is distracted by what Simon is doing and she tells him to put it back.
 |
| "It took years to get over you" |
In 2024, Delyth confesses, “It took years to get over you – I couldn’t move on.”
 |
| "I see you have moved on" |
Yvonne picks up a photograph of her with Maya and realises that she has indeed managed to move on now. “Have you been watching us?” Delyth snaps and is asked what is her partner’s name.
 |
| "That's Maya" |
When informed that she is Maya,
 |
| "Are you happy?" |
Yvonne asks, “Are you happy? She is assured that Maya is everything to Delyth – and more.
 |
| "She's kind and faithful" |
“She’s kind and faithful – I can depend on Maya.”
 |
| "Sounds like a sheepdog" |
She is told that makes Maya sound like a sheepdog, but snarls, “I know where I stand with her!”
 |
| Simon is now amusing himself |
Simon is now playing with a game as Delyth goes on, “Right, where were we?”
 |
| "I've got a new job as well!" |
Yvonne announces that she has a new job as well,
 |
| "So we could get a place together" |
“so Delyth proposes that they could buy a place together – with an actual joint mortgage.
 |
| "Del, it's in Manchester" |
“Del – it’s in Manchester – it’s perfect for me. It’s a real challenge.” Delyth is disappointed, but says that it is an exciting time for both of them. “I want you and Simon to come with me,” Yvonne continues,
 |
| "Manchester's a lovely city" |
“Manchester’s a lovely city – it’s a real buzz!”
 |
| "I've just had a promotion here" |
Delyth’s face falls; “I’ve just had a promotion here!” When told that she will not need to work, she responds, “But I want to work – I love what I do – I’m good at it.”
 |
| "I can work and look after Simon" |
She is reminded that she will be able to spend more time with Simon, but Delyth protests, “I can work and look after Simon, thank you very much. I’ve worked too hard just to throw it all away!
 |
| "You expect me to sacrifice everything for your job?" |
“You expect me and Simon to sacrifice everything for your job?”
 |
| "Sorry I want a life together!" |
Yvonne angrily growls, “Sorry I want a life together!”
 |
| "You want your own life!" |
“You just want your own life – you haven’t thought about us!” Delyth exclaims as she picks up her bag and calls for Simon to come with her.
 |
| "Can't we talk about this properly?" |
Yvonne wants to talk about this properly,
 |
| They head for the car |
but they are already out of the door and heading for the car.
 |
| "Mam, what about that girl?" |
Simon asks what they are going to do about that girl; “We were supposed to get something for her from the café,” but his mother does not want to talk about it.
 |
| As Yvonne urges her to stop . . . |
She starts the engine of the car just as Yvonne comes out of the café and bangs on the windscreen. Delyth reverses the car, rather too rapidly,
 |
| . . . Delyth reverses – until there is a loud thud |
then suddenly there is a loud thud, as it hits something. She looks around with horror
 |
| Yvonne discovers that . . . |
and Yvonne discovers the girl,
 |
| . . . it is the girl, lying motionless |
who is now lying lifeless on the ground.
 |
| She is dead . . . |
She feels for a pulse, but there is none;
 |
| . . . and Delyth is horrified |
she and Delyth look at each other with terror in their eyes;
 |
| Simon is watching |
Simon is watching all this in the rear-view mirror.
 |
| The current titles are back |
Back to the familiar sequence marking the end of the first part of the episode
 |
| "How did you know about the body?" |
In the present, Delyth asks, “How did you know that people thought the body was yours? The police haven’t had named anyone in the media.”
 |
| "I still keep tabs on things here" |
Yvonne replies that she still keeps tabs on things here; she is still part of the force.
 |
| "There's no record of you anywhere" |
“But I’ve looked everywhere for you – every department – there’s no record of you anywhere.”
“But you were looking for Yvonne – that’s not who I am any more.” She is asked where she lives now and is told, “Wherever the work takes me.
 |
| "Have you got a more recent photo of Simon?" |
“Have you got a more recent photo of Simon?”
Delyth says that she has not and Yvonne doubts that she would recognise him now.
 |
| "I don't know where he is or how he is" |
Delyth does not know where he is or how he is.
 |
| Delyth has somehow driven home |
After the accident, they have driven home; Delyth is slumped over the steering wheel in an absolute panic. Simon asks if she is all right
 |
| "I want you to be a big boy now" |
and she sobs, “I want you to be a big boy now, OK? I want you to go into the house – I’ve got to talk to Yvonne first.”
 |
| "Can I get my football out of the boot?" |
“Can I get my football out of the boot?” he asks,
 |
| Yvonne has already retrieved it |
but Yvonne has already thought of that and hands it to him.
 |
| He is taken into the house |
He goes into the house as his mother sobs uncontrollably, then Yvonne gets back into the car.
 |
| "We have to report it!" |
“This isn’t happening!” gasps Delyth, “What are we going to do? We have to report it.”
 |
| "We can't do that!" |
Yvonne tells her they cannot do that, but Delyth insists, “It was an accident – there was nothing I could do!”
 |
| "You weren't looking where you were going" |
She is reminded that she was not looking where she was going.
“Do you want to lose everything? Lose Simon? We don’t have a choice –
 |
| "We'll have to get rid of the body!" |
“we’ll have to get rid of the body!” concludes Yvonne, “Go inside, put Simon to bed
 |
| "I'll be back to pick you up" |
and I’ll be back to pick you up – go!”
In the pharmacy flat Delyth reveals that Simon does not want anything to do with his mother
 |
| "Does he know what happened?" |
and Yvonne is worried that he knows what happened, but Delyth denies this; “I’ve done everything I can to keep Simon out of this!”
 |
| Number 9's back garden |
In the darkness of the garden of number 9, Delyth wails that she cannot do this;
 |
| "Do it for Simon!" |
“Do you want to go to jail?” Yvonne demands, “Do it for Simon.”
 |
| The excavations begin . . . |
Yvonne begins to dig a hole and it is noted that she is wearing forensic covers over her shoes,
 |
| . . . while Delyth sobs nearby |
while Delyth stands nearby, sobbing pitifully.
 |
| "Why did you change the story?" |
“Why did you change the story?” snarls Yvonne.
 |
| "What was I supposed to do?" |
Delyth wants to know what she was supposed to do; “Make a huge fuss and say it was someone else, not you? I don’t want this either –
 |
| "I didn't have a choice" |
“Colin’s heartbroken – I didn’t have a choice.”
 |
| "You shouldn't have moved to the village" |
Yvonne insists that Delyth should not have moved to the village, as it puts too much strain on her.
 |
| "I knew the body was safe" |
Delyth regards it as somewhat of a comfort, knowing that the body was safe. This strikes Yvonne as strange.
 |
| "It's over!" |
After disposing of the body, Yvonne sighs, “It’s over!”
 |
| "Or it's just begun" |
Delyth is under the impression that it has just begun. “Just concentrate on Simon – that’s why you did all of this.
 |
| "Come to Manchester with me" |
“Come to Manchester with me – we can leave this all behind us – the flat is ready. There’s plenty of room for us to be a family.”
 |
| "Not after what happened today . . ." |
Delyth shakes her head and says that she cannot; “Not after what happened today. I love you – I really love you,
 |
| ". . . knowing what we've done" |
“but how can we live together, knowing what we’ve done?”
No amount of protesting from Yvonne will change her mind; “Go back to Manchester and forget about me.”
 |
| "I shall never forget you!" |
She is assured that will never happen;
 |
| She gives her necklace to Delyth |
Yvonne takes off her necklace and hands it to Delyth
 |
| "I love you" |
with the words, “I love you.”
 |
| Then she walks away . . . |
She gets out of the driving seat of the car and walks away down the back street
 |
| . . . and out of sight . . . |
towards Cysgod y Glyn,
 |
| . . . while Delyth continues weeping |
while Delyth is left in floods of tears in the car.
 |
| "I've been so selfish . . ." |
As they sit together at the table, Delyth confesses, “I would have followed you to the ends of the earth – I’ve been so selfish. I was wrong –
 |
| ". . . you sacrificed everything for me" |
“you sacrificed everything for me.”
 |
| They clasp hands |
As they clasp each other’s hands,
 |
| "I would do it all again" |
Yvonne vows that she would do it all again.
 |
| "One thing I don't understand . . .? |
She adds, “There’s one thing I don’t understand –
 |
| ". . . what was this evidence?" |
“they say there’s evidence that connects me with the body – but that’s not possible, is it?”
 |
| "They found the necklace with the body" |
“The necklace – they found it with the body,” says Delyth and Yvonne realises that she put it there.
 |
| "It all still works – if you disappear now" |
“It all still works – if you disappear now,” Delyth adds,
 |
| "If I mean anything to you . . ." |
“If I mean anything to you, you have to go – please.”
 |
| They look into each other's eyes . . . |
They look into each others eyes and as Delyth is distraught,
 |
| . . . and Yvonne leaves |
Yvonne picks up her coat and leaves the flat, without another word.
