Cassie is hard at work

As Cassie brings in some food from the Deri kitchen, Ffion comes in and is welcomed by Kelly;

"Rugby – do you want to play?"

“Right, rugby – it’s nice to be back – do you want to play?” she asks

"It will be a laugh"

and Kelly thinks that it will be a laugh.   “It will be more than a laugh – I’ll make sure we’re a great team in a few weeks!” Ffion insists.

"You're very 'gung-ho', Ffion"

Jinx joins them at the bar and remarks that Ffion is very ‘gung-ho’;  “If you’re going to do something, do it right,” she tells him,

Diane and Kath wish there was another pub in Cwmderi

just as Diane and Kath arrive, looking rather askance at Cassie.

"I've upset Kath"

Cassie goes across to Kelly and says, “I’ve upset Kath,” and Kelly cannot understand how she has done that,

"That's really difficult to do"

stressing that it is really difficult.

Jinx looks quizzically at her

Jinx is looking at Kelly, but does not say anything.

Iolo is wiping the table

At MFC, Iolo is sitting at one of the tables and obsessively wiping it with a napkin when Maya enters;

There is a stranger behind the counter

the stranger behind the counter acknowledges what she wants and she returns to Iolo.

"What's 'again' in Welsh?"

“Hello again,” she says, “What’s ‘again’ in Welsh?”   He informs her that it is ‘eto’ and she looks out of the door to check on the pharmacy,

"I missed lunch because I was so busy"

as she is not supposed to close, but missed lunch because she was so busy.

He is still concentrating on his napkin, so she continues, “How’s Greta?   And how are you?

"I get the feeling things aren't great"

“I get the feeling that things aren’t great – sorry, none of my business.”

"Someone else will tell you anyway"

“It’s OK,” he replies, “Someone else will tell you anyway – my ex-partner recently died – which is why I’m bringing up Greta on my own.   Before that I was in a relationship that ended on Christmas Day with a police search.”

"Little things, then"

“Little things, then” she comments, wryly,

"They argue all the time"

and he adds that he and Greta live with his father and uncle – who argue all the time.

“And I just found out that my Dad was unfaithful to my Mum, who died when I was a little boy.”

"No wonder you're a bit OCD"

Maya says that it is no wonder that he is a bit OCD;

"I'm not supposed to say things like that"

she knows that she is not supposed to say things like that, but just blurts it out sometimes.   She realises that OCD is not something to be flippant about,

Iolo quickly leaves

and Iolo grabs his jacket, to make a hasty exit.   She mutters to herself, “Maya, you idiot!”

"I'd like to order lunch, if it's not too much trouble"

In the Deri, Diane comes across and announces, “I’d like to order lunch, if it’s not too much trouble.”

"You're the ones behaving like children"

Cassie replies that it is her job, adding that it is the two of them who are behaving like children.

"You've hurt her, Cassie"

“What do you expect, Cassie?   You’ve hurt her,” Diane snarls.

"Frightened of the competition, is she?"

Cassie imagines that Kath is frightened of the competition, but is told, “She feels like a fool for telling you all those things the other day – and she thought you were friends.   Two chillies, please.”

"Don't give up – this is where you belong"

Cassie moans to Kelly that she should have been straight with Kath Jones, but she is advised, “Don’t give up, Cass, this is where you belong.”

"Why should I let Kath Jones stop me?"

“You’re right – I won’t give up!   That burglary didn’t stop me – why should I let Kath Jones stop me?   Mind you, I’m not sure how things will work out – lots of people will probably put offers in for this place.”

"I'll see if I can find out anything"

Kelly will see if she can find out anything, but at that moment Ieuan Griffiths appears, berating her, “I don’t remember giving you an extra five minutes for lunch –

"I was wrong once – in 1987!"

“I might be wrong – I was wrong once – in 1987!” he jokes, “I don’t think I am now –

"You owe me an extra five minutes"

“you owe me an extra five minutes at the end of the day, all right?”

Kelly is furious

Kelly glowers at him, and Cassie remarks, “He’s such a nice man, isn’t he he?”

"A cross between Nero and Putin!"

Kelly describes him as a cross between Nero and Putin, then leaves for the office.

Maya puts up a Welsh sign . . .

Maya puts up a new sign outside the pharmacy, in Welsh, as advised, reading ‘Come inside and say hello to your new local pharmacist.’

. . . then collides with Ffion

As she stands back to admire her handiwork,

"I'm so sorry!"

she bumps into Ffion who is walking along the street.

Ffion is on a recruitment drive

“I’m looking for rugby players for the women’s team,” Ffion announces;  coincidentally, Maya loves rugby and was in the team back home.

"Perfect – training session at 5:30"

“Perfect – we’ve got a training session at 5:30pm – can you make it?”

Maya closes at five, so will see her there;  “It will be a good chance to make friends as well.”

Is Ffion developing into another Siôn White?

Ffion points out a mistake in the Welsh spelling,

Maya will put it right

so Maya will correct it.

"I found your phone – you've had loads of calls"

Jinx comes along the street, having located Ffion’s phone, which she had mislaid, and tells her that she has had loads of calls from the school.

"Something silly like paperclips"

“Probably about something silly like paperclips,” she sneers,

"Your job is more important than this rugby"

and he reminds her that her job is more important than this rugby.

"I have the right to enjoy myself"

Ffion maintains that she has the right to enjoy herself;  “Oh, that’s what this is – because you’re a bit manic about this rugby business.   What is the interest all of a sudden – you’re not trying to forget something, are you?

"There's obviously something going on between you and Arwen"

“There’s obviously something going on between you and Arwen since you went up north.”

Ffion replies that she and her daughter are getting on better than ever;

"Perhaps you should be a bit busier"

she suggests, “Perhaps you’re the one who should be a bit busier – it would stop you imagining things.”

Iolo is dealing with the washing

Iolo comes downstairs with the washing basket just as his father arrives home,

"How about going out for a walk?"

proposing that they should go out for a walk.

"I don't want to go for a walk with you"

“I don’t want to go for a walk with you!” is the reply.   Siôn protests that his son has been avoiding him for days,

"I want to explain what happened with Mam"

and he wants to explain what happened with Mam.

"I don't want an explanation"

“I don’t want an explanation,” he insists, but his father is adamant that they cannot carry on like this.   “All right, I’ll  come to the Deri with you for a drink,” Iolo concedes,

"What – in the Deri?"

but Siôn is reluctant to discuss something private in the Deri.   Iolo, however, will not change his mind.

"Of course it's confidential"

In the Tomos ac Ellis office, Griffiths is on the phone;  “Yeah, of course it’s confidential – yes, I understand.

"The Deri really is a gem"

“The Deri really is a gem – I think you’ll like it.”   As he put on his coat, he assures the caller, “I won’t let you down – OK, thanks for that,”

Griffiths hurries out . . .

and he immediately rushes out of the office.

. . . and Kelly checks that he is out of sight . . .

Kelly has been listening carefully to the conversation and as soon as she is sure he has gone, she has a crafty look at his laptop.

. . . before checking his laptop

She appears to be concerned at what she sees.

Ffion introduces Maya to the players

The ladies rugby team are running through the mud, and Ffion introduces Maya to the rest of the team;

"We usually speak Welsh"

“We usually speak Welsh when we are playing rugby – we have to speak English now, do we?” demands Sioned, and Ffion advises that Maya will have to learn some of the Welsh terms they use.

"I'll try to keep up"

“I want to learn Welsh more than anything,” she replies, “Do what you do and I’ll try to keep up.   Ffion tells them that she and Sioned are in charge of social media today;  they will be taking photographs.

"You're late, Kelly!"

Kelly arrives late and is reprimanded;

"I work for the Griffiths dictatorship, don't I?"

“I work for the Griffiths dictatorship, don’t I?   Sorry,” she answers.

"Send them to the Western Post as well"

Ffion tells Sioned to take photos every chance she gets, then put them on Twitter and Instagram;  “And send them to the Western Post as well, although I’m sure they’ll have no interest in a women’s team.”

"We're as good as the boys!"

Sioned is adamant that they are as good as the boys, but Ffion goes on, “They might publish something as we are the only rugby team in Cwmderi who are training.”   She is told that Maya has something to tell her.

"Cer i grafu!"

Cer i grafu!” she says,

"Who taught you that?"

and Ffion wonders who taught her that, as it is rude [literally ‘Go and Scratch!’].   The team begin training.

"I know you don't want to hear"

Cassie serves Siôn and Iolo and they go to a table;  “I know you don’t want to hear what I have to say,” Siôn begins,

"I never wanted you to find out"|

“I never wanted you to find out – it breaks my heart that you doubt how much I loved your mother.”

Iolo instructs his father to stop talking;

"I've got enough on my mind"

“I’ve got enough on my mind – the atmosphere at home is awful, especially for Greta!”   His father insists that he needs to explain

Cai happens to be passing

and at that moment Cai also comes in.

"It was a big mistake"

“For all our sakes,” Siôn goes on, “The first thing I need to say is what happened was a big mistake.”

"No, Dad – it was an affair!"

He is invited to call it an affair, because that is what it was, with the piano teacher, who was also Mam’s friend.

"Is that why we had piano lessons twice a week?"

“Is that why we were having piano lessons twice a week at one point?” Iolo demands,

"It was the worst thing I have ever done"

and Siôn confesses that there is no excuse;  it was the worst thing he has ever done.   It was ugly, cruel . . .

“And a cliché,” adds Iolo.

"Perhaps I wanted some excitement in my life"

Siôn does not know why he did it, but suspects he wanted some excitement in his life.   He points out that Iolo was young at the time, and Gwen was looking after him, not working or sleeping.

"And you weren't getting any attention"

“And you weren’t getting any attention – is that it?” Iolo demands.   Siôn stresses that he cannot change what happened and does not want it to come between him and his son.

"Your mother forgave me"

“Your mother forgave me – I ended everything with Miss Jenkins and I confessed everything to your mother.   She knew and she understood – and she forgave me.   Then we moved to Cwmderi and started again –

"Surely you and Cai can forgive me, too?"

“surely you and Cai can forgive me, too?”

"Did I hear my name mentioned?"

Cai happens to be passing again and thought he heard his name mentioned;

"He wants us to forgive him for the affair"

“Dad wants us to forgive him for the affair,” says Iolo,

"I'm not in a forgiving mood"

but Cai is not in a forgiving mood.

Kelly finds a message on her mobile

Partway through the training session, Kelly discovers a message on her mobile and and announces that she has to go.

"You'll thank me in the end"

“There’s something I need to do – and you’ll thank me in the end.”

"This says that our team is the official one"

Sioned has written a piece for the press, but Ffion finds that it says that the women’s team is the Cwmderi RFC’s official team.

"It's almost true, isn't it?"

“It’s almost true, isn’t it?   The men’s team is not training at the moment,” Sioned emphasises, “We need to take advantage of the situation – if we get some attention, we might get sponsors.   We can give the boys a real kick then!”

She presses the button to send the message and points out that it is too late to change now.

"You were never unfaithful to Mam after that?"

“And you were never unfaithful to Mam after that?” Iolo asks, and Siôn answers that he knows how much Iolo’s mother meant to him.

"I heard the same thing from Tyler!"

“Yes – and I heard the same thing from Tyler after Aled – he wanted me to forgive him and he did the same thing again.”

"I would never have hurt your mother a second time"

“Well, I didn’t – don’t you believe me?” says Siôn, “I would never have hurt your mother a second time – unlike Tyler.   How is it you forgave him, but you can’t forgive me?”

"I need to get back to Greta"

Iolo does not want to talk about this now, that needs to get back to Greta.

Kath gives Griffiths a whisky

Griffiths is sitting with Kath and Diane and is presented with a drink;

"Isn't it against the rules?"
“Isn’t it against the rules for you to drink with a potential buyer?” Diane enquires, and he replies only if she tries to bribe him.   This is simply a chat among friends.

"Who wants to buy the Deri?"

“Now tell me, who else wants to buy the Deri, apart from Cassie?” demands Kath.

"I'm surprised you want to join the business world"

Griffiths is surprised that she wants to join the business world, with all the fuss she made fighting for the common people last week.

"That's exactly why I want to buy this place"

She explains that is exactly why she wants to buy the place – to show that common people can run a business successfully, too.   “Right,” he says, “This is all very confidential, so not a word to anyone, all right?

"King Charles himself is interested"

“It seems that King Charles himself is interested.”   He smiles broadly and thanks Kath for the whisky.

Jinx is just coming out of the Deri when he collides with Kelly, who was going in;

"Pub Right, OK . . ."

they sit down at a table outside and she informs him, “Pub Right, OK?   A massive franchise from London – Griffiths is in correspondence with them –

". . . they're after the Deri, Jinx!"

“they’re after the Deri, Jinx – and with the name as unimaginative as ‘Pub Right’, you can imagine what they will do to the place.”

Jinx concentrate on a text from Dani

He seems to be more interested in a text which he has just received from Dani, to whom he sends a reply.

"We can't let them buy the Deri!"

“We can’t let a massive company from London buy the Deri!   Look – it’s already splitting the community,” she continues,

Kath and Diane are leaving

as Diane and Kath come out of the pub.

He finds this message amusing

Then there is another message, and she snarls, “You know what, Jinx?

"You're no help – forget it!"

“You’re no help – forget it!”

Sioned is injured

Sioned seems to have incurred a leg injury, and the pharmacist warns her that it will be sore tomorrow.   She adds that she is making slow progress with the Welsh,

"I understand Kelly quite well"

“Though I understand Kelly quite well when she speaks Welsh.

"I've learned 'pysgodlyn'"

“I’ve learned ‘cais’ [try], ‘cosb’ [penalty], ‘bachwr’ [hooker] and ‘pysgodyn’ [fish].”

"There are no fish in rugby"

Sioned advises that there are no fish in rugby, and at that moment Ffion hurries across

"The Western Post want a photo"

to tell them that someone has arrived from the Western Post, who wants a photo.   “Cai will be after my blood!” she predicts.

A card and a present for Iolo

Cai arrives back at Y Felin and puts down a card and a box on the table, which he says are for Iolo;  “You must have a secret admirer.”

"Does she know you're gay?"

They are from Maya, the new pharmacist, and Cai wonders if she knows that he is gay, but Iolo does not regard it as important.

"It's not fair if you attract all he local women"

“It isn’t fair if gay men attract all the local women!” Cai protests, “What kind of signals are you giving out.”   Iolo reminds him that he has lost Eifion and his ex-husband;

"I'm not giving out any signals"

he does not believe that he is giving out any signals.

"I know you're not happy with me"

Siôn has just come in;  he informs them, “I know you’re not happy with me and I know I betrayed Gwen – but I have explained and told you how sorry I am about what happened.”

"It's not that easy, Dad"

Iolo maintains that it is not that easy;  “It is – and I’ve had enough of this superior attitude,” growls Siôn,

"You've both been unfaithful to partners!"

“You’ve both been unfaithful to partners!”

"But they weren't my sister and his mother"

“But those partners weren’t my sister and his mother,” Cai protests.

"I've had enough!"

“It doesn’t matter – I’ve had enough!” Siôn exclaims, “Now, if you don’t change,

"You can go and find somewhere else to live!"

“you can go and find somewhere else to live!”
