Britt is telling the police half the tale

Britt is explaining to a police officer, “After he took the money, he left – I don’t know what came over me, but I was so angry, I ran after him, tripped over a chair and hit my head.”

"I went to look for her"

Colin adds that as she had not come home, he went to look for her.

"Do you remember anything else about him?"

The officer asks if she remembers anything else about the attacker,

"I'm not feeling too special"

but Britt is very vague and maintains that she is not feeling too special, so the matter will be left for now.

Colin thanks the PC for calling, and when he comes back into the room, wonders if Britt is sure that they were crooks who had come to collect Garry’s debt.

"You should have told the police"

If that is the case, she should have told the police,

"I just want this to be over"

but Britt is determined, “No – I just want this to be over.”

He argues that if the police knew about the link to Garry, it would be easier to catch them;

"This way the matter is closed"

“And then what, Col?   Would they leave us alone?   No, this way, the matter is closed.”

He stresses that she does not know that,

"I don't want more police and more questions"

but Britt snarls, “Well, I’m taking the chance, right, because I don’t want more police, more questions, more court cases –

"I'm sick of it!"

“I’m sick of it!”

Sioned hakes Huwi-John's temperature

Sioned is taking Huwi-John’s temperature, just as DJ comes into the room, speaking on his phone;

"And there isn't another job?"

“That’s unfortunate, and there isn’t another job?   Yes, I understand – bye, Dic.”

He advises Sioned that the job at Café Neuf has gone, and she says that it is a shame,

"We'll find you another job out there"

but is confident that they can find him another job when they are out in Ireland.

"Is it worth going?"

“Is it worth going if neither of us has a job?   We’ll spend all our savings on rent,” he moans,

"You were more than happy last week"

and she reminds him that he was more than happy with the plans last week.

"Don't be so negative!"

“Don’t be so negative!” she snarls, “This is supposed to be an exciting new start for us.”   When asked whether Huwi has a temperature, she replies that he has not, but his throat is sore.

"I've got a sore throat"

“I hope you’re not looking for a day off school,” says DJ, and Huwi replies hoarsely that he has a sore throat.

"Well, stay away from your mother, then"

He is warned to stay away from his mother in that case, as they do not want her to catch a cold as well.

"Might make the carer's life a bit easier"

Apparently Eileen is still asleep, as the tablets have knocked her out;  “But it might make the carer’s life a bit easier,” Sioned comments, “I’ve made a list and organised Zoom meetings.

"This time next week . . ."

“This time next week we’ll be sitting in a bar in Dublin, planning the rest of our lives.”

"You must have fallen heavily"

Cassie comments that Britt must have fallen heavily, but Britt tries to downplay her condition, remarking that she has to be careful with concussion.

"With Colin fussing"

“I don’t want to be on my feet really – but I don’t want to stay in the house with Colin fussing,” she adds.

“It was a real shock, wasn’t it?   Seeing those men with knives and balaclavas – Garry must know something,” Cassie says,

"That's not true, Cassie"

but Britt refutes this allegation.

"Why were they the only businesses targeted?"

“Why were they the only businesses that were targeted?” Cassie wants to know, “And how did they manage to steal the keys so easily?”

Britt dismisses her concerns, “Oh they might have targeted us because they thought we kept lots of money.”

"I was going to put in an offer for the Deri"

Cassie now considers it too much of a risk;  “Sorry – I was going to put in an offer for the Deri, but it’s obviously a target.”

"Don't be rash, Cassie"

Britt insists that there is no evidence of that and warns her not to be rash.   “I was badly shaken up by this experience –

"I don't know if I want to go to work"

“I don’t know if I want to go to work, let alone buy the place!” exclaims Cassie.

Dani rounds the corner . . .

Dani comes round the corner by the Pizza Place and rushes to Jinx’s assistance,

. . . and goes to assist Jinx

as he is trying to lock the shop door while holding three pizza boxes.   “Running a pizza company is huge fun when you only have one arm,” he groans, “How are you?”

She is worried about Gwern

Dani thanks him for supporting her last week and reports that she has just dropped off Gwern at school, for his first day since the accident.   “It’s only a half day, but I still think it’s too much for him.”

"A maths lesson will be nothing"

Jinx maintains that after everything the boy has been through, a maths lesson will be nothing.

Dani remembers that she always used to dodge her maths lessons, and adds that Gwern is having nightmares;

"The doctor says it's normal"

“The doctor says it’s normal, but I’m worried about him.”

"That and Garry – and . . ."

Jinx appreciates that he has a lot to deal with;  “That and Garry – and . . .”

Dani completes the sentence for him, commenting that she still has not told him everything that his mother did, but is taking one step at a time.

"Shall I deliver them for you?"

She discovers that Jinx was taking the pizzas to Tomos ac Ellis, so she will drop them in for him.

"I've advertised for some help"

He confesses that he is not coping with only one arm and has just advertised for some help.

"Can I apply?"

“Can I apply?” she asks, “I’ve got three kids, no income coming in – and I need a job – please?”

"I'll meet you for a drink later"

He agrees to meet her for a drink in the Deri later.

"Britt is so stubborn"

Kath has gone to see Colin, and he complains, “The trouble is, Britt is so stubborn – she insists on going out and carrying on as if nothing happened.”

"Perhaps this is what we should do . . ."

Kath replies that perhaps that is what they should do – not give in to the swines, who are simply thinking of themselves like that.

". . . that's why I've done this"

“That’s why I’ve done this,” she says, showing Colin her iPad;  “It’s a petition, Colin, and I’m going national with this, because it’s online –

"Arwen is the voice of youth"

“Arwen helped me.   She is the voice of youth.”

"Serious case of misogyny?"

Colin reads out, “Putting an end to sex discrimination in golf clubs – my name is Kath Jones and a very serious case of misogyny made me feel unsafe and triggered past trauma.”

It does not take much to puzzle Colin

He looks puzzled, and Kath remarks, “It’s good, isn’t it?

"It's the way young people talk"

“I like the way she’s made it sound the way young people talk – with help from Google Translate.”

"Kids won't give a damn about some golf club"

“Kids won’t give a damn about some golf club,” is his response,

"They'll care about misnodgyny!"

but Kath is adamant they will care about ‘misnodgyny’ as she describes it.   Colin does not have time for this today;  “I don’t know why you care so much about the golf club – unless you’re just bored and missing Brynmor.”

"I'm standing up for the common man here, Col . . ."

Kath insists that she is standing up for the common man;

". . . who gets nothing back except bills"

“The people who work their whole lives, without complaining, and they get nothing back except bills – it’s all in there!”

"It's time for you to leave, Kath"

Colin has had enough and instructs Kath that it is time for her to leave,

"This is just the start!"

but on her way to the door, she continues, “I’ll tell you this – this is just the start!

"Griffiths and his cronies have started something here!"

Griffiths and his cronies have started something here!”

"That's great, Magi – thank you"

At Penrhewl, Sioned, wearing headphones, is on her Zoom call;  “That’s great, Magi – thank you – I’ll contact you by the end of the week.”

"I really liked that last one"

When DJ comes in, she informs him, “Another two to go – I really liked that last one.”

"Where's Huwi?"

He asks where Huwi is,

"With Mam, I expect"

and she assumes that he is with her mother.

“No, I’ve just checked – I bet he’s out in the yard – I said he wasn’t ill,” DJ scolds her, “If he’s ill, he should be in bed.”

"I'll go and look for him"

She will go and look for him.

She shouts for her little brother . . .

Outside, she shouts his name, but there is no reply,

. . . but there is no sign of him . . .

so she continues walking through the farmyard,

. . . and she is becoming anxious

and is becoming anxious.

Cassie returns to the Deri flat . . .

Cassie returns to the Deri flat, where she looks at the hammer she intended to use as a weapon,

. . . and Dani checks on her

at which point Dani comes in to check whether she is OK.

"It's obviously something to do with Garry"

“You know, I feel guilty about what happened – it’s obviously something to do with Garry – you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.   It could have been me and the kids.”

"I was going to make an offer for the Deri"

Cassie is glad that Dani was not there, and reveals that she was going to make an offer for the Deri, but not now.

"I can't think of a better landlady"

Dani insists that she is a part of the place and cannot think of a better landlady,

"I don't think I'd feel safe here now"

but Cassie replies, “I don’t think I’d feel safe here now – that’s why I’m here, to see if it would help.   It’s not as bad as I expected, but I’m a ‘victim of crime’, according to the police – a ‘victim’.”

"Yo won't always feel like that"

Dani stresses that she will not always feel like that and a label does not mean anything.   “What’s important is how you define yourself – if I let everything that’s happened to me define me,

"I don't think I'd get up in the morning"

“I don’t think I’d get up in the morning.   Gwyneth deceived us all – but I want something good to come out of this.   We all deserve something good.”

Sioned is still searching . . .

Sioned has now called upon DJ to assist in the search, and they hurry around the farm;

. . . but then she hears a cry

suddenly she hears the boy’s cry, and discovers him in one of the barns,

Huwi has fallen off a bale . . .

where it appears that he has fallen off a bale, and is not sure whether he is all right.

. . . but appears to be unharmed

“You seem to be OK – let’s go to the house,” says Sioned,

"A massive cup of hot chocolate?"

“How does a massive cup of hot chocolate sound?”

"Thanks, Mami"

As they walk back towards the farmhouse, he says, “Thanks, Mami,” and she is rather taken aback.

"A qualified counsellor making pizzas?

“It’s a weird combo, though, isn’t it?   A qualified counsellor making pizzas?” enquires Dani, as she and Jinx sit in the Deri.

"They complement each other very well"

He replies that he thinks that they complement each other very well.

"Listening is easier than flipping pizzas"

“I’m sure that listening to problems is easier than flipping pizzas in the air these days,” she goes on,

"I can't even do that with two hands"

and he regrets that he cannot flip pizzas, even with two hands.   Dani jokes, “Oh – that’s why I wanted the job.”

"Well, do you want the job, then?"

He asks when she can start and she seems surprised that he is offering her the job;  “Why not?” he demands, and is not going to bother with interviewing anyone else if she is willing to do it.

"I don't have anyone to look after Gabriel"

However, Dani raises one problem;  “Now that Garry and Tyler . . . I don’t have anyone to look after Gabriel – and I really can’t afford a full-time child minder.   If – and only if, I’m struggling – can I bring him in?

"He's as good as gold if I give him an iPad"

“He is as good as gold if I give him an iPad and stuff – I’m sure that Mark will be able to . . .”

"That's no problem at all, Dani"

Jinx points out that it will be no problem at all, and if she wants any help, she has only to ask.

"Every time I see you, I cry"

Tears are coming to her eyes as she insists, “I’m not going to cry, because every time I see you, I cry.”

"Yes, I have that effect on people"

He accepts that he tends to have that effect on people.

Then she receives a phone call from the school to inform her that Gwern has been in a fight,

and she has to go.

There is a phone call from school

As she dashes out of the door, Kath comes in and goes across to Griffiths;

"You won't get away with this, good boy!"

“Don’t think for a minute that you’ll get away with this, good boy.”

"What are you talking about?"

He does not know what she is talking about,

"I'm starting a petition!"

so she goes on, “I’m starting a petition and I’m going national – online!”

"We're not changing our minds"

“If this is about the golf club, we’re not changing our minds,” he tells her,

"When the press get a sniff of how misnodgynistic you are . . ."

but she is very confident that once the press get a sniff of how chauvinistic and misnodgynistic he is . . .

"It was the way you spoke to Harvey"

Griffiths points out that the reason she was banned from the club was the way she spoke to Harvey, but she is convinced otherwise;  “I’m just not good enough for your posh club, am I?”

He insists that there is a way of talking, a way of behaving

"Brynmor wouldn't be happy"

and grumbles, “Brynmor wouldn’t be happy to hear how his missus is behaving.   Where exactly is he, then, Kath?   You don’t expect us to believe that he’s on an antiques course on the other side of the world?”

She is insistent that is where Brynmor is, then gets up and walks out,

Ieuan is quite pleased with his performance

leaving Griffiths chuckling.

Kath has a fresh determination

Kath looks determined as she leaves the Deri.

"You know when you called me 'Mami'?"

Sioned puts a blanket around Huwi and finds that his hand is no longer hurting.   “You know when I found you earlier, you called me ‘Mami’, didn’t you?

"I'm happy for you to call me 'Mami'"

“Well, while Mami is recovering upstairs, I’m happy for you to call me ‘Mami’ as well.”

"Now isn't the time to move to Ireland"

DJ comes in and she tells him that she has been thinking;  “Now isn’t the time to move to Ireland,” which comes as quite a surprise.

"Are you sure?"

He asks if she is sure,

"We can't leave Huwi-John"

and she says, “We can’t leave Huwi-John – and even if Mam comes off those tablets, she has a long way to go to recover properly – rehab, physio.”

"I know how you feel, DJ"

She is well aware of how DJ feels about it,

"Perhaps our new start is here"

and he is pleased when she suggests, “Perhaps our new start is here – and we haven’t realised what’s under our noses.”

"Everyone at school know – except me!"

When Gwern and Dani return to number 7, he complains, “Everyone at school knew, except me!   Why didn’t you say she killed people?   That she killed Jaclyn and Dylan?”

"I intended to tell you, Gwern"

Dani had intended to tell him, but did not think he was strong enough to deal with it – the stuff with his mother and father.

"She's not my mother – don't call her that!"

“She’s not my mother – don’t call her that!” he growls.

"I didn't handle this well"

Dani acknowledges that she has not handled this the way she should, but she wanted to wait until he was better.

"They were calling her a serial killer!"

“You didn’t think they would know?” he demands, “They were calling her a serial killer!”

"I thought I was doing the right thing"

Dani pleads that it was just a mistake and she was not trying to deceive him, but thought she was doing the right thing.   He goes upstairs.

Cassie visits MFC . . .

In MFC, Britt is arranging some flowers in a vase when Cassie comes in;

. . . where Britt is arranging flowers

Britt points out that she got the flowers herself, explaining that she needed new energy.

"She's still as stubborn as ever!"

Colin interrupts to say that Britt is still as stubborn as ever;  “She should be resting in a dark room.

"You should be sleeping"

“You had whiplash – now you’ve got concussion – you should be sleeping!”

Now Cassie is going to try for the Deri

Cassie announces that she has changed her mind about the Deri;  “I don’t want to regret it over some worthless scum,” she explains.

"The police might never catch them now"

That is exactly why Britt is there, too;  “I’m not going to let them get the better of me, either.    The police might never catch them now.”

"I hope they're a long way from Cwmderi"

Colin is not looking at all happy about Britt’s attitude, as Cassie hopes that they are a long way from Cwmderi.   She will now go to the bank to organise everything and will come back with a formal offer, but she would like them to keep it to themselves for the moment.

"What for they do come back?"

Colin raises the question, “What if they do come back?   What if this is just the beginning?   That with Garry in jail, they think they can do what they like?”

She simply snarls that the matter is over, and that he should forget it;

Colin is not going to forget it

he does not look likely to do that.

"Hiya, Brynmor, it's me"

Kath is sitting at home and makes a phone call;  “Hiya, Brynmor, it’s me.   I’m good, thanks.   Everything is . . . I miss you.   Listen, I’ve been thinking, while you’re away, I’d like to have more to do, you know?   Perhaps something for when you come home.

"I want money – a lot of money . . ."

“No, I don’t want a hobby – I want money – a lot of money –

". . . you and I are going to buy the Deri"

“because, Brynmor, you and I are going to buy the Deri.”
