"Will you take these to the caravan?"

Eileen has just prepared some sandwiches and asks Sioned to take them out to Alaz and Huwi in the caravan.   DJ comes downstairs and wishes them good morning;  “I’m in a good mood, unlike you two –

"Where's Huwi-John?"

“where’s Huwi-John?   He’s not in his room.”

"Probably in the toilet"

Eileen evasively suggests that he may be in the toilet, but DJ has already looked there, and suspects that he has gone out.

"No, he's playing hide-and-seek"

Sioned tries the excuse that he is playing hide-and-seek;

Eileen goes 'to look for him'

and Eileen pretends she is about to go and look for him.   Sioned takes the sandwiches, as unobtrusively as she can.

"Have you seen this children's programme?"

Kath is watching something amusing on the television, and asks Brynmor, “Have seen this children’s programme?   It’s brilliant!”   She decides that she wants Coco Pops for breakfast, and will not be happy unless she gets them.

"I don't think we have any Coco Pops"

He does not think that they have such a thing,

"I want Coco Pops, Brynmor!"

but she is insistent, “I want Coco Pops, Brynmor!”

Rhys is texting Abi

is sending a surreptitious message to Abi, asking how Olivia is, when Mathew comes in, complaining about the darkness in the flat.

"It's like a cave in here"

“It’s like a cave in here – have you thought about opening the blinds?”

"I can't be bothered"

Rhys groans that he cannot be bothered.

“Look, I know that you’ve got a lot on your plate at the moment,

"Your rent's late"

“and I’m sorry I have to do this, but your rent’s late,” says Mathew, “Can you transfer any of it into the bank this week?”

"I'm skint!"

Rhys replies that he is skint;  “The business isn’t doing well at the moment,” so Mathew suggests he could ask his father for help.

"I'm not asking for a handout!"

“I’m not asking for a handout!” Rhys snarls,

"Your father must know someone"

but Mathew is sure that his father must know someone who could give him a job.   Rhys’ answer to that is to go for a shower.

Eileen anxiously comes back into the farm kitchen, wondering where DJ is,

"He's 'FaceTiming' Dai and Diane"

and Sioned says that he is ‘FaceTiming’ Dai and Diane.

"I've told Huwi he can't go to the caravan again"

“I’ve told Huwi that he can’t go and see Alaz again in the caravan,” her mother tells her, and Sioned is sure that the boy was happy about that.

"We can't tell anyone"

“We don’t have a choice – we can’t tell anyone,” says Eileen.

The new fashion-conscious Siôn appears

Siôn comes downstairs in Y Felin and Iolo looks at him accusingly;

"You're going out like that?"

“You’re going out like that?   It’s a bit much, isn’t it?”

"Loafers without socks is fashionable"

His father assures him that wearing loafers without socks is fashionable, but Iolo suggests that his ankles might get cold.

"Your dull, conservative attitude"

“The only thing that upsets me is your dull, conservative attitude,” his father informs him, “Enjoy your day,” and off he goes to the bookshop.

Iolo is downhearted

Iolo is getting rather tired of this.

Keth is manoeuvring herself around

Kath is out again in the wheelchair, this time propelling herself, and attracts the attention of Eileen outside the shop, who asks if she needs help.

"I can't expect Brynmor to push me around"

“No, I have to strengthen my arms,” is the reply, “I can’t expect Brynmor to push me around every day.”

Eileen appreciates that it will do good to be independent.   “Well, I’m doing my physio every morning, but it’s hard,” Kath moans,

"Have you thought of those electric wheelchairs?"

and Eileen wonders if she has thought about having one of those fancy electric wheelchairs, which would make it easier.

Kath thinks that she might be on to something there;

"Are they expensive?"

“Are they expensive?”   She is reminded that Brynmor is ‘loaded’, but insists that she has the savings.

"You're privileged to be able to afford one"

Eileen says that she is privileged to be able to afford one.

Cassie's dripping tap has been repaired

Iolo has just finished a plumbing job at number 9 for Cassie, who complains that it kept her awake all night with the constant dripping.

"I'll give you a cheque tomorrow"

She will give him a cheque tomorrow.

"Do you think I'm boring?"

he raises the question, “Do you think I’m boring?” and she points out that his life is not as exciting as it was,

"It means something different to everyone"

and that ‘boring’ means something different to everyone.

"Right, I have to put this washing out"

Now she has to hang out the washing while the sun is shining.

Iolo is no happier

Iolo does not look at all reassured.

"Aren't you overreacting"

Jinx is sitting, pondering, at Cysgod y Glyn;  “Please tell me you slept last night,” says Ffion, “Aren’t you overreacting?”   He declares that he will not rest until he finds out what Jaclyn was dragging in that rug.   “Oh, I’ve had enough of this!” Ffion exclaims,

"How about if I asked if I can go over there after choir?"

“I’ll tell you what – how about if I asked Jaclyn if I can go over after choir tonight to discuss the repertoire?”

"Is that safe?"

Jinx wonders if that is safe;  “Of course it is – I’ll ask to go to the bathroom, and have a look around.   Would that give you peace of mind?”   He thinks that possibly it would,

"You have a shift at Penrhewl today"

and she reminds him that he has a shift at Penrhewl today, which he appears to have completely forgotten.

"And Jaclyn will be there!"

“Hey, Jaclyn will be there – I can see if she's acting oddly,” he says, “Right, I’m going for a shower.”

"How are you, Brynmor?'

Brynmor walks through the alley on his own and meets Cassie outside the shop;  she asks if he is all right

"Kath is in a strange mood"

and he says that Kath is in a strange mood.   “Caring for her is very tiring – do you know what she wanted breakfast this morning?   Coco Pops – we didn’t have any,

"Those small red cheeses"

“so in the end she settled for some crackers and those small red cheeses.”

"Em liked them in her lunchbox"

Cassie recalls that Em liked them in her lunchbox when she was little;  “It’s strange how someone’s tastes change after a fall.”   Brynmor knows that she is not trying to be difficult, but he needs a lot of patience.

"I had a carer, but she's not happy with that"

“I’ve had a carer from a private company, but she’s not happy with that,” he goes on, just as Mark is passing the end of the alley.

They find they are under surveillance

Cassie notices him, just as she is inviting Brynmor to come over for a coffee, and Brynmor thinks it is wise to walk away at that point.

Alaz is eating his lunch

When Jinx arrives at Penrhewl, Alaz is sitting in the kitchen, eating his lunch;  “Eileen, Sioned,” Jinx shouts, “Have you got any more orders for me?”   Then he discovers the stranger sitting there;

"I'm Jinx – who are you?"

“Hiya – I’m Jinx – who are you?”   Eileen rushes downstairs

Eileen tries to think of some plausible explanation

and hurriedly tries to think of some explanation for Jinx.

"Jase, do you think I'm boring?"

Iolo arrives at APD, where he asks Jason, “Do you think I’m boring?”

"You're one of the most boring people I've ever met"

Jason does not hesitate to agree that he is one of the most boring people he has ever met.   “Are you serious?” whines Iolo,

"How would you describe me?"

“How would you describe me?”

"You're reliable – you're always there"

“Well, you’re reliable, aren’t you?   I don’t know – you’re always there,” says Jason, and Iolo wonders if everyone in the village sees him like that.

"Does everyone think I'm boring?"

“Do you think everyone in the village thinks I’m boring?” Iolo demands;

"Iolo, this chat is really boring . . . "

Jason answers that he thinks this chat is really boring,

". . . see, it's this boring . . ."

and yawns to prove his point.   It is now lunchtime, so he will go and get himself something to eat,

". . . I need a coffee before I fall asleep"

and perhaps a coffee, before he falls asleep.

Iolo is even more convinced

Iolo leaves APD in an even worse state.

"Go to the caravan"

Eileen instructs Alaz to go and finish his lunch in the caravan;

He looks askance at Jinx

“Who is he, Eileen?” asks Jinx, and is told that he is a friend of Huwi-John,

Eileen reveals the truth

before she confesses that he is an illegal immigrant.

"You could get into a lot of trouble"

“Eileen, you could get into a lot of trouble – where did he come from?”   Eileen replies is that Sioned found him at Deri Fawr.   “Working for John?” demands Jinx, and is told that he is from Kurdistan;  he was in a lot of danger.

"You're sheltering an illegal immigrant"

“Why haven’t you been in touch with the authorities?   You’re sheltering an illegal immigrant – that’s quite serious!” Jinx stresses, but Eileen says that he does not have anyone, no family, and is so afraid.

"I don't know what is the best thing to do"

She does not know what is the best thing to do is.

"I  think I can help you out, Eileen"

Jinx assures her that he will help her sort this out and gets out his phone.

"Why did you need too see me?"

Rhys is following up Mathew’s suggestion and has asked to meet his father in the Deri;  “Why did you need to see me in such a hurry?” Hywel grumbles, irritably.

"I hope we can put it behind us"

“I know that you and Gaynor are still angry with me about what happened with Lois – I hope we can put it behind us,” Rhys begins, and his father enquires what he wants.

"I don't have any money"

“I don’t have any money,” says Rhys, “I don’t want a handout, but could you ask your council contacts if there’s a job somewhere?”

"That wouldn't be right, Rhys"

Hywel replies that it would not be right to do that, and Rhys concludes that his father is still punishing him over Olivia.

"It wasn't my fault"

“It wasn’t my fault – she wanted to meet her mother.”   Hywel emphasises that what he did was selfish and stupid, but he can understand why Rhys did it.   However, he cannot use his contacts in the council to find his son a job because it is unethical.   “Thanks for nothing!” growls Rhys and walks away.

"Mr Griffiths, is that job still available?"

He notices Griffiths at the bar;  “Hey, Mr Griffiths, is that job offer with Tomos ac Ellis still available?   I’ll work hard for you.”

He is given a trial period, starting on Monday

He is told to come in on Monday, and a trial period will be organised for him.

"Don't go and work for him!"

When Griffiths walks out of the pub, Hywel insists, “Don’t go and work for him!”

"You won't help, so mind your own business!"

Rhys replies that as he will not help, he should mind his own business.

Kath investigates electric wheelchairs

Kath is looking online at electric wheelchairs, particularly a model costing £1,399;  when Brynmor comes in, she tells him that she has not eaten yet,

"What do you want to eat?"

and he asks what she wants.

"You're the adult, Brynmor, so you choose"

“You’re the adult, Brynmor, so you choose,” she replies,

"Ham and tomato sandwich?"

and he suggests a ham and tomato sandwich.   She asks where he has been, to which he answers that he has just been for a walk in the fresh air, and he can see what she is looking at on the tablet.

"Is Jaclyn here – she wasn't at Penrhewl"

Jinx comes into the Deri, and Ffion was not expecting him;  “Is Jaclyn  here?” he asks, and at that moment she comes in.   “I didn't see you at Penrhewl today,” he comments

"I had the day off today"

and it appears that she had the day off.

Ffion maintains that there was something wrong with the choir practice;

"The repertoire wasn't quite right"

“The repertoire was not quite right – it isn’t flowing, is it?   Perhaps we can think of other options – wouldn’t it be better to listen to a few songs?”

"Shall we go to Cysgod y Glyn?"

When Jaclyn suggests they could go to Cysgod y Glyn,

"Sorry, the heating's not working"

Ffion says that their heating is not working, and could they go to her house.

"I think I'll come with you"

Jinx invites himself along with them,

"There's no need for that, Jinx"

although Ffion does not think that he needs to come.   He explains that he might want to join the choir, and Jaclyn is all in favour of that.

"I'll get a bottle of wine from the shop"

He will go to the shop for a bottle of wine.

"I've got some bad news . . ."

Rhys is recording his final video;  “All right, people?” he says, “I’ve come online tonight to share some bad news – unfortunately, I have to stop the online personal training business —

"I can't compete"

“for personal reasons.   There was a massive boom during the pandemic – but now everyone’s gone back to the gym, and I can’t compete.   But there we go, I've tried to help people – now I’m going to look after myself –

"This is Rhys, signing off"

“so this will be my last video, my friends.”

During this recording, Mathew has returned to the flat,

"You'll get the rent by the end of the month"

and is told that there was no money in it;  “I’ve got a new job, working for Griffiths, so you’ll get the rent by the end of the month.”

Iolo is depressed

Iolo is looking sorry for himself when his father returns home

"I'm just enjoying the silence"

and sits down, exhausted.   Iolo offers to put the television on, but Siôn does not want that, as he is just enjoying the silence.

"It's a bit boring, isn't it?"

Iolo cannot help commenting, “It’s a bit boring, isnt it?   Look, I’m sorry about Eifion – what if I promise not to see the worst in people from now on and try to be more fun?”

"There's nothing wrong with being reliable and careful . . ."

“There’s nothing wrong with being reliable and careful,” says his father,

". . . as long as you can enjoy yourself sometimes"

“Just as long as you can let go and enjoy yourself sometimes.”

"How about a game of Scrabble, Dad?"

Iolo thinks that he can start now, suggesting a game of Scrabble.   Siôn will go and get it now.

Jaclyn tries, diplomatically, to get rid of her visitors

At number 10, Jaclyn says that she is tired and has work in the morning, but Ffion would like to read over the list one more time, just to make sure that the order is right.

"How about a coffee?"

Jinx suggests that perhaps they could have a coffee,

"Go upstairs and have a look"

then instructs Ffion, “Go upstairs and have a look – I’ll say you’ve gone to the bathroom.”

Ffion asks if she can use the toilet,

She looks reproachfully at Jinx

and disappears upstairs, after glancing at Jinx.

The winning word is aptly 'BORING'

On the Welsh version of Scrabble, which of course they are using, Iolo can complete a triple word score with the word
‘DIFLAS’ [aptly meaning ‘boring’].

"Who's boring now?"

He totals up the scores and triumphantly announces that he has beaten his father;  “Who’s boring now?   Let’s have a cup of tea to celebrate –

"Decaf – we don't want to be up all night"

“but decaf – we don’t want to be up all night.”

Siôn is bemused

Siôn looks bemused at the sudden change of attitude.

Ffion creeps into a bedroom . . .

In the course of her investigations upstairs, Ffion peers into a bedroom,

. . . and finds something suspicious

where she notices what appears to be the object in question lying on the bed.   She hesitantly goes towards it, pulls off the covers,

Whatever it is, she receives a shock . . .

and is surprised by what she finds, although looking somewhat relieved.

. . . and covers it up, without giving us a glimpse

She covers up whatever it was

She leaves the bedroom

and makes a hasty exit from the bedroom.

"We should go now, Jinx . . ."

Returning downstairs she announces to Jinx that they should go now, arguing that they have taken up too much of Jaclyn’s time tonight.

". . . Arwen won't know where we are"

“Arwen won’t understand where we are,” she says, and they leave as a matter of urgency.

"What about the coffee?"

Jaclyn looks rather confused, as she has just made coffee.

"What did you see, Ffion?"

Outside the door, Jinx is eager to know what she saw,

"You won't believe it!"

and Ffion informs him, “You won’t believe it!”
