"Huwi-John was rushing to the caravan"

As Sioned and her mother are finishing breakfast, DJ comes in;  “Huwi-John was finishing his breakfast walking across the yard,” he comments, “Rushing to the caravan, he said.”   Sioned replies that he enjoys playing there.

"Yes, he does – with Alaz!"

“Yes, he does – with Alaz!” DJ continues, “How long has he been staying there?”   Eileen maintains he is not doing any harm, but is told, very forcefully, “You’re hiding an immigrant!” 

"He's a nice man, DJ"

and when Eileen says that he is a nice man, adds, “We’ll tell the authorities he can stay because he’s a nice guy!   

"He's breaking the law – we're breaking the law!"

“He’s breaking the law – we’re breaking the law!”

Sioned alleges that no-one knows he is there, 

"We have to help him"

and Eileen insists that they have to help him.   

"So to doesn't matter what I think?"

“So it doesn’t matter what I think?” he snarls.

"Give us a few days to sort it out"

“Listen, give us a few days to sort it out properly,” Sioned tells him, 

"Like you want for everything else?"

and he imagines that it is the same few days that she wants to sort everything else out.   He points out that they could get arrested, lose the farm and go to jail.

"What do you think, then?"

Rhys has made an effort to smarten himself up for the first day of his job, and Mathew ridicules him;  

"The 90s want their suit back, Rhys!"

“Rhys, the 90s have phoned and want their suit back!”   He is told that he is simply jealous because Rhys looks sharp and sexy.   

"As long as you pay the rent – at last"

“I don’t care how you look, as long as you pay the rent – at last,” Mathew replies, “Are you sure you’re cut out for this?   It’s different.”

“I’m just glad that Griffiths has offered me a job – and with this body and this face, 

"Women will be desperate to buy and sell with me"

“women will be desperate to buy and sell with me – especially the middle-aged ones.”   

"You gigolo"

Mathew remarks that he has dressed like a gigolo.

"We shall have to get our stories straight"

DJ points out that they will have to get their stories straight;  “We found him in the caravan.”   

"Alaz and Huwi-John will have to be involved"

Both Eileen and Sioned are not confident about this, reminding him that Alaz and Huwi-John will also have to be part of the story.

"John Deri Fawr should be reported!"

Eileen protests that it is John Deri Fawr who should be reported, not them;  “We rescued Alaz after that swine mistreated him.”   

"Remember the state he was in"

Sioned reminds DJ of the state Alaz was in when he got there, and insists that he is safe there.

“We just need a bit more time to work out what we can do, and then we’ll go to the authorities, “ proposes Eileen.   

"We're going to phone before the end of the day tomorrow"

DJ is adamant that they are going to phone before the end of the day tomorrow;  “And seeing I live here too, can you share things with me from now on, please?”

"I hope I get good news from Jinx"

Eileen hopes that they get some good news from Jinx later, “And that swine John gets everything he deserves!”   

"I've got things to do"

Sioned says that she has things to do and leaves the farmhouse.

Andrea appears in the Deri flat

There is a knock at the door of the Deri flat, and Andrea appears once again;  

"I don't think can work for you any more"

there is a rather awkward silence before she says, “I don’t think I can work for you any more.”   

"Don't let Garry spoil things"

Dani urges her not to let Garry spoil things.

“I’ve got a job interview tomorrow – I’m leaving this afternoon,” Andrea goes on, 

"I can guess where this job is"

and Dani thinks she can guess where this job is.   “Newcastle,” is the reply, and Dani realises she is running after him.

"I can do what I want!"

“I can do what I want – you’re desperate to stop me and Garry having a relationship!” Andrea growls, but Dani says that she is just worried about her.   “Don’t – I’m a big girl now!” is the angry retort.

Dani consults her phone . . .

Dani looks on her phone and writes something down on a sheet of paper;  

. . . and hands over Garry's phone number

“Garry’s number,” she tells Andrea, and warns, “Just don’t let him change you – 

"You're lovely as you are"

“because you’re lovely as you are.”

Kath is going her carer a hard time

Kath’s carer is almost ready to leave, and Kath is as usual complaining;  

"I said I didn't want anyone in to help"

she tells Brynmor, “I said I didn’t want anyone in to help,” 

"Sorry, Kath isn't feeling very well today"

and he apologises to the carer for her attitude, maintaining that Kath is not feeling very well today.

"Don't talk about me as if I'm not here!"

“Don’t talk about me as if I’m not here – I’m not a child!” Kath moans.   Brynmor hopes to see the carer tomorrow, but Kath does not want her back tomorrow.

"I can't do everything myself"

“We need the help – I can’t do everything myself,” he groans, and she says she is sorry to be such a nuisance.   “Come on, Kath – you’re not a nuisance!” he snaps, “Right, what do you fancy for breakfast.”   She replies that she does not want anything, 

"Go out for a walk and have some breakfast"

and urges him to go out for a walk, so he can have breakfast in the village.

He insists that he wants to eat his breakfast there, and he does not want to leave her on her own.   “Do you know what I want?   Peace and quiet,” she snarls, “I can’t do anything stupid while you’re out, anyway.”   Brynmor does so.

Arwen is exhibiting a nose-ring

Arwen is lurking in the back street when Gwern passes, 

"Does your Mam know?"

and notices the piercing in her nose.   He asks if her mother knows, 

"She's cool with it"

and she lies, “Of course – she’s cool with it.”   She maintains that she did it herself, which Gwern does not believe, 

Mathew puts out the rubbish

and when he sees Mathew putting out the rubbish, he tries to hide.

“We’re not supposed to see each other,” he reminds Arwen, and she warns him not to grass her up, like he did about knocking doors.

"Never grass on anyone – end of!"

“You admit nothing and you never grass on anyone – end of!” she instructs him, 

Arwen issues a challenge

and invites him to prove that he is brave.

"I don't think she'll be coming back, Mark"

Mark visits the Deri flat and learns from Dani that Andrea is leaving today and it does not appear that she will be coming back.   This is very bad news for Mark;  “I don’t want her to go,” he says, and neither does Dani.

"I really, really don't want her to go!"

“No, I really, really don’t want her to go, Dan!” he exclaims, “I want her to stay here – with me.   

"Do you think I've got a chance?"

“Do you think I’ve got a chance if I say something?”

"Just try, Mark"

Dani is not sure, but advises him to try.   “What if I make a fool of myself?” he frets, 

"I don't think I'm brave enough"

“I don’t think I’m brave enough.”   In that case, Dani advises he had better go and say goodbye to her.

Sioned visits Deri Fawr 

John Deri Fawr is wielding a sledgehammer as Sioned approaches along the path;  

"You must miss your little farmhand"

“You must miss your little farmhand doing all the work for you,” she comments sarcastically.   He orders her off his land, but she continues that she has an offer for him;  

"You've got nothing I want!"

he insists that she has nothing that he wants.

"Apart from my silence"

“Apart from my silence about Alaz,” Sioned continues, “He’s told us everything – you’ll be in a lot of trouble if I go to the police.   He is somewhere safe.”   John argues that no one will believe him, but she adds, “Not on his own, perhaps, but DJ and I are witnesses to the fact you kept him here against his will – 

"We've got photographs of his injuries"

“and we’ve got photos of the injuries you inflicted on him.   I don’t know what the sentence is for slavery, but I’m sure it’s long.”

"It's about time you left!"

John thinks that it is high time that she left, but before she goes, she issues an ultimatum;  “You have 24 hours to change your mind about the tenancy, or I’m going to the police.”

He follows her, waving the sledgehammer in an intimidating manner, 

She captures his belligerent attitude

so she turns, capturing the scene on her phone.   “What’s wrong, John?   Losing your temper?   Something made you angry?”   

"I'm not threatening – just fencing"

He maintains that he is not threatening anybody – he is fencing, 

Sioned feels pleased with herself

and she walks away from the farm.

"When can I take the clients round?"

Griffiths is cleaning a spot from the window of his estate agent’s shop as Rhys comes out of the door;  “Right, I’ve tidied up the back room and your office,” he says, “When can I take the clients round?”   

"You've only got experience of 'squats' and 'crunches'!"

Griffiths laughs, “Yes, of course I'm going to let someone who only has experience of doing ‘squats’ and ‘crunches’ go straight out and sell houses!”   

"I'm happy to learn on the job"

Rhys says that he is happy to learn on the job, and is disparagingly asked, “Do you want a corner office and a secretary?”

He is told to do the vacuuming and dusting

Hywel is passing and takes an interest in this conversation, as Griffiths says that he has to value a place in Cwrtmynach.   “Can you vacuum the shop and dust for me, like a good boy?”

The result of a botched attempt . . .

Gwern comes into the Deri flat, clutching his ear and is trying to stop the bleeding;  

. . . of DIY ear-piercing

it appears that he (or Arwen) has been trying some do-it-yourself ear piercing.

Sioned arrives back at Penrhewl . . .

Sioned arrives at a trot back at Penrhewl, where her mother notices she is out of breath;  Eileen has brought lunch for Alaz, 

. . .  and has been followed

and we can see that John Deri Fawr has been following Sioned.   

Alaz is given his food

Alaz comes to the caravan door and thanks Eileen, “Sipas ji were [Thank you].”   Eileen hopes that he will be able to stay there.   

Now John knows his whereabouts

John, standing by the gate, realises that he now has the necessary information.

"Did you have breakfast?"

Kath is lying quietly at Maes-y-Deri when Brynmor returns; “You’re back then – did you have breakfast?” she asks, and he says he was not hungry.   

"We need to sort this out, Kath"

He maintains that they need to sort this out;  he is aware that things are hard for her, but when she shouts at people who are trying to help her . . .

"I'm just in so much pain, Brynmor"

She explains, “I’m just in so much pain, Brynmor, and I’m not coping with it.”   He insists that is why he is there, to look after her, 

"I heard you, talking to Cassie"

but she complains, “Yes, but I’m not your child, you am I?   Because that’s how you see me – I heard you, Brynmor, the other day in the Deri, telling Cassie I was like a child.   

"How do you think that makes me feel?"

“How do you think that makes me feel?”

"It's nice to have someone to care for"

He replies, “What I was saying was that it’s nice to have someone to care for,” and as he can see that she is in some considerable pain, 

"Right, I'm going to phone for the doctor"

insists he will contact the doctor immediately.

"No, don't do that!"

“Don’t do that,” she pleads, and he points out that it is obvious that the painkillers are not working, 

"When did you take the last tablet?"

asking when she took the last tablet – was it early this morning or within the last hour.   

"You haven't taken any since you left hospitall!"

She urges him to leave it, so he picks up the tablet box and realises that she has not taken one tablet since she left the hospital.

“I don’t like taking tablets,” she says, 

"Don't you want to get better?"

and he wonders if she wants to get better.   “Of course I do – I’m scared – 

"I used to be addicted to painkillers"

“because I used to be addicted to painkillers!” she wails, “I was an addict years ago – it was a terrible time – I turned my back on everyone – including Mark and Stacey.   I was so ashamed – I hated myself, but I just couldn’t stop.   

"I'd rather been pain that go back there again"

“I’d rather be in pain than go back there again.”

This shocks Brynmor, who insists that she cannot suffer like this;  he will help her.   

"I won'r let you become dependent on them"

“I promise I won’t let you become dependent on them again,” he says, but she is afraid he might not be able to stop her.

“And I’ll push you away as well, because that’s what addicts do,” she continues, “And then who will I have?”   

"I'm not going anywhere, Kath!"

Brynmor assures her that he is not going anywhere, and besides that, she has Mark and her friends.   

“Yeah, they’re all queueing up, aren’t they?” she sneers.   He asks if she trusts him 

"I don't trust myself!"

and she replies that of course she does;  “I don’t trust myself!”

"I'm going to look after these"

He will look after the tablets and will make sure that she takes them;  

They go at the top of the kitchen cupboard

he goes into the kitchen and puts them right at the top of a cupboard, where she has no chance of reaching them.

"Do you have to go?"

Andrea is clearing up in the shop in preparation for her departure.   Mark comes in;  “Dani told me you’re leaving,” he says, “That you’re going to Newcastle – do you have to go?   

"You and I get on well"

“I’ll . . . we’ll miss you – a lot of people adore you – you and I get on well.”   

"Yes, we do"

Andrea agrees that they do.

“Look, I am sorry . . .” he goes on, but she stops him there, 

"You have lots of friends in the village"

commenting that she has forgotten about that, and reminds him that he has lots of friends in the village.   

She can make new friends, and so can he, but she feels that it is time to start over.   “I know I could make a fool myself with Garry – 

"You have to take a risk sometimes"

“but you have to take a risk sometimes – and there’s nothing to keep me here, is there?”

"No, I suppose not"

He supposes that there is not, 

"Good luck in Newcastle"

adding, “Well, I’ll see you, and good luck in Newcastle,” before he sadly turns and walks out.   

Andrea looks similarly regretful

Andrea does not look very happy about it either.

"Have you made your first million yet?"

Rhys returns to the shop flat, and Mathew asks how it went:  “Have you made your first million yet?”   

"It was all right"

Rhys says that it was all right, and then his father appears in the doorway.

"Enjoying being an office boy?"

Rhys emphasises that he is enjoying the job;  “Enjoying being an office boy?” Hywel demands, “I know you’re Griffiths’ little helper – 

"I've organised an interview for you"

“I’ve organised an interview at the leisure centre as manager.”

"I already have a job, Dad"

Rhys replies that he already has a job, and Hywel snarls, “You’re more than Griffiths’ lapdog!”   Rhys realises how embarrassing this is for his father, but points out that he has to stand on his own two feet.   “Don’t let your pride stop you from accepting help!” Hywel tells him.

"It's pride that's made you offer it!"

“It’s pride that’s made you offer it!” his son laughs, “Thanks but no thanks.”   Hywel growls that it is his choice and walks out of the flat.

"I'm proud of you, Rhys"

Mathew says that he is proud of Rhys, and they agree that they will go for a pint tonight;  

"Us lapdogs don't earn much!"

“You’ll have to pay – us lapdogs don’t earn much,” says Rhys.

"Right, take these, Kath"

Brynmor instructs Kath to take the tablets;  “I’ve hidden the others in a handy place for me – but not for you.”   

He makes sure that she does

He watches to ensure she has taken the tablets;  her phone sounds, and she finds there is a message from Britt.

A message from Britt and Colin . . .

“Remember that Col and I are here if you need to talk.”   

. . . Ffion – and even Jason

Then there is one from Ffion, inviting her to phone if she needs anything, and even one from Jason.

Brynmor says that it proves that lots of people are thinking about her;  

Kath holds Brynmor's hand

“You will recover, you know,” and Kath holds his hand.

Mark looks at his 'Super Postman' costume . . .

At number 7, Mark looks wistfully at his ‘Super Postman’ costume and is almost in tears;  

. . . and reaches a decision

then he has idea, rushes out of the house 

He dashes across the road

and across the road, where Andrea is getting into a taxi.

"We need to take risks sometimes"

He shouts to her, “Listen, you’re right – it’s exactly like you said!   We need to take risks sometimes – 

"There is a reason to stay – ME!"

“there is a reason for you to stay here – ME!”   

And there the episode ends

Her eyes are brimming with tears as she looks at him.
