Garry discovers Mathew in the road
As Mathew lies in the road, a car comes round the corner and the horn is sounded at this obstruction;  Guto hears the sound, comes out of Tapas and realises that something serious has happened.
"Don't touch him – get lots of water"
He runs to Mathew and smells the acid, as Garry warns not to touch him, but tells Guto to get lots of water.
"You're gong to be OK, Mathew"
“You’re going to be OK,” Garry reassures Mathew, as he phones for an ambulance.
Guto grabs all the bottled water he can find
Inside Tapas, Guto puts all the bottles of water he can find into a bowl, as Garry informs the operator on the phone that he is wearing gloves, and that Mathew is wearing a polo shirt.
Garry is told to try and remove the polo shirt
He is told that he needs to try and remove it,
Madge is very shocked by this happening
and various villagers are gathering, including Madge from the chippy.
Mathew screams with pain
Mathew screams with pain as Garry tries to remove the shirt;  “It’s too painful!” he shouts to the operator, but is told that it is necessary to remove it, being as careful as possible.
The horrific acid burns are now evident
We can see the extent of the horrific acid burns to Mathew’s chest,
Guto is aghast when he arrives with the water
and Guto arrives with the water, which Garry is told to pour over Mathew, and to make sure that there is water running continuously over the burnt areas, away from the good skin.
Mathew is in excruciating pain . . .
Garry attempts to turn over Mathew to his side, which is excruciatingly painful;  they are told that the ambulance will be with them in less than 10 minutes.   “Is he still conscious and responding?” the operator asks,
. . . as the water is poured over him
and again Mathew screams with the pain as water is poured over him.   Garry instructs Guto to go and wait for the ambulance and to direct them, then continues to pour water over Mathew.
The lambing at Penrhewl has at last ended
Meanwhile at Penrhewl, DJ reports to Sioned that the last lamb has arrived,
"Has your mother said anything else about Adrian?"
and asks, “Has your mother mentioned anything else about Adrian?”   Sioned replies that she said he made the whole thing up to get a lift back to Cardiff, but neither of them believe this story.
"The more I push her, the angrier she gets"
“The more I push her, the angrier she gets!” Sioned complains,
"If you find out the truth, don't tell me!"
and DJ is reluctant to know the truth as it would be awkward, him being a policeman.
Eileen is glad the lambing is finished
Eileen comes in and is told that the lambing is over for another season;
"What are we going to do next week for your birthday?"
“It gives us time to think about other things,” says Sioned, “Like what we’re going to do next week for your birthday.”   Eileen is not keen to celebrate,
"You could stay in a hotel for a night"
and DJ suggests they could stay in a hotel for a night, while he looks after the farm.
"No – not just after losing Jim"
Eileen thanks him for his concern, but she does not want to go away on her first birthday after losing Jim;
"I could cook you both a three-course meal"
then DJ proposes cooking them both a three-course meal.   Sioned regards that as a good idea, telling her mother she can invite whoever she likes;  Eileen says she will invite Dai and Diane, as they have been good friends,
"You could invite Adrian too"
and Sioned adds, “You could invite Adrian, too – as things are all right between you now.”
Eileen maintains that Adrian is too busy, but Sioned urges her to phone him to arrange things;
"He is Huwi's uncle"
“He is Huwi’s uncle – it’s important that Huwi spends time with him.”
"I don't want him anywhere near the place!"
Her mother angrily tells her to stop it, emphasising that she does not want Adrian anywhere near the house again.
“I thought everything was fine between you,” Sioned goes on,
"Right, who wants some Bara Brith?"
and Eileen is quick to change the subject to Bara Brith.
"I've just got to pop out for a minute"
After a signal from Sioned, DJ says he has to excuse himself for a minute.
"Stop this charade,  Mam – what's going on?"
“Stop this charade – what’s going on?” Sioned demands,
Eileen is about to reveal all
and her mother prepares to explain to her.
Garry is still pouring water . . .
Out in the street, Garry is still pouring water over the acid burns when Dylan arrives,
. . . when Dylan arrives and takes over
asking what has happened, and is told that someone threw something over Mathew.   Dylan takes over with the application of water and we hear the approaching ambulance;
"The ambulance is here, Mathew"
Garry reassures Matthew that he is going to be all right.
Jaclyn arrives on the scene
Jaclyn comes on the scene,
"We think acid was thrown over him"
and Dylan explains that they think acid has been thrown over Mathew.
"You should take Guto home"
He advises her to take Guto home, but he is insistent he wants to go to the hospital with Mathew.
Guto is prevented from going with Mathew
He is prevented from doing so by his mother, and Dylan volunteers to go instead.
"Do you know anything about this?"
Jaclyn says she will advise Rhys of what has happened, and Dylan asks Garry, “Do you know anything about this?”   Garry replies that he just found Matthew like this,
He views Dylan with suspicion
and is again looking suspicious.
Jaclyn bangs on the roller shutter door
Jaclyn and Guto run to the roller shutter door of the gym and bang frantically on it, shouting for Rhys.
. . . and he comes to the door . . .
He comes to the door, demanding what is going on,
. . . to be given the shocking news
and is told what has happened.
Dani has been speaking to a policeman
In the Deri, Dani has been talking to a police officer when Garry comes back inside, and she wants to know what has happened.
"Somebody's thrown acid at him!"
“Somebody’s thrown acid at him!” is Garry’s incredulous reply,
"Has it affected his face?"
and she demands whether Mathew’s face has been injured, and if he is going to be OK.   Garry reports that he has just gone in the ambulance.
"Who would do this to Mathew?"
She is very flustered, asking, “Who would do this to Mathew?”
"Get me a whisky"
and Garry tells her to get him a whisky.
Garry's brain is working
He appears to be working something out.
"So he came to get that key"
After hearing the story from her mother, Sioned concludes, “So he didn’t come here to pay his respects, but to get that key.”   Eileen says that Jim was keeping it safe for him on top of the cupboard.
"Where is this lock-up – and what's in it?"
“Do you know where this lock-up is – and what’s in it?” is Sioned’s next question,
"I don't want to know anything about it!"
and her mother is quite adamant that she does not want to know anything about it.
Sioned suggests that Adrian might be making it all up, but Eileen does not think so;
"It was probably Jim's illness"
Sioned puts it down to Jim’s dementia, as he might not have known what he was doing, but her mother points out that Jim was not completely innocent;
"He was very good at hiding things from me"
“He was very good at hiding things from me – Adrian knew about the land and Kath as well.   Jim left Kath those fields because she had said how much she enjoyed being on the allotment with him – but Jim went a step further, and left her land on the farm.
Sioned suspects that Adrian is lying, but it is pointed out that he could not benefit from lying about that.
"Now Adrian's gone, we can forget about him"
“At least, it proves that nothing went on betwen Kath and Jim,” says Sioned, “And now Adrian’s gone, we can forget about him.”
"It's about time things improved around here"
Eileen hopes so, because it is time things improved around the farm.
"Hope there's plenty of Bara Brith left"
DJ returns, hoping that there is plenty of Bara Brith left,
"Someone has attacked Mathew!"
then Rhys rushes into the farmhouse, informing them that someone has attacked Mathew.
"We have to go to the hospital"
 “We have to go to the hospital!” he exclaims,
They hurry away, without another word . . .
and the three of them rush away, leaving Eileen alone.
. . . and very quickly arrive at the hospital
Dylan is at the hospital, speaking to Jaclyn on the phone;  he will call her again when he has more information.   Sioned hurries in, followed by DJ and Rhys;  they are told by Dylan that Mathew is, “Not great – someone threw acid over him.   I wasn’t there, but it seems he’d been drinking – I don’t know whether he argued with someone.   He’s asleep – they gave him something for the pain.”
Sioned is extremely upset
Sioned is obviously extremely upset,
Rhys was supposed to have met him
and Rhys recalls that he was supposed to meet Mathew at the flat.
"He's lucky – he could have been blinded"
Dylan explains further, “It was all down one side, but he’s lucky – he could have been blinded.”   Sioned is anxious to see Mathew, and Dylan says he will check with the guard – the police officer stationed outside the door.
"There's something really personal about an acid attack!"
“There’s something really personal about an acid attack!” gasps Sioned, and they hope that he will be OK.
Guto is understandably very shook up
At number 10, Guto is still in shock, and does not want anything to eat;
"I can't think who would do this to Mathew"
“I can’t think who would do this to Mathew,” he sobs, “He was with me seconds earlier.”   Jaclyn urges him to drink his tea,
"What did Tes say?"
and he asks, “What did Tes say?   Dad will have to go and fetch her.”
He finds his sister has not yet been told
He is told that she has not been informed yet, as they do not know what the situation is;  his mother argues that it is best to wait until they have something definite to tell her.
"But Mathew needs her, Mam!"
He protests that Mathew needs her, but she is under the impression that Math does not know what is going on at the moment, so there is no point in frightening her tonight.
"The smell – it burned my nose!"
“It was horrible, Mam,” he groans, “The smell – it burned my nose – I can still smell it.”
Jaclyn gives him a cwtch
His mother embraces him.
They enter Mathew's room
At the hospital, the three friends enter Mathew’s hospital room;
"If I get my hands on whoever did this . . ."
 “If I get my hands on whoever did this . . .” growls DJ, and Sioned acknowledges that she has not been a good friend to Mathew recently, but DJ reminds her that she is not responsible.
"It wakes me realise how much he means to me"
“When these things happen, it makes you realise how much someone means to you,” she says, but again DJ says they are not to blame.   “It must have been a random attack,” comments Sioned,
"I had a gun pointed at me, remember?"
“These things happen – I had a gun pointed at me, remember?”
Rhys replies that Mathew has not done anything to anyone, and she snarls, “Are you saying I deserved to almost get shot?”
"This is not the place for an argument"
DJ says that they are all stressed, but this is not the place for an argument.
Mathew shows signs of waking up
They see Mathew moving, and DJ begins to question him;
"I should contact Eifion"
“What happened?   Did you see who did this?   I should contact Eifion.”
"I don't want anyone to see me like this"
Mathew forbids this, arguing that he does not want anyone to see him like this.
"I'm scared of how I shall look"
He is scared of how he will look;
"It's bound to take some time"
Sioned is sure that he will get better, but it will inevitably take some time,
"We're all here to help you, Math"
and they are all here to help him.
Dani finds Garry deep in thought
Garry is leaning on the bar, deep in thought, when Dani comes downstairs, expecting that he will be in shock over Mathew;
"I wonder if he will be scarred"
“I’ve definitely had a shock,” he agrees.   She wonders if he will be scarred, and recalls that he was in the Deri earlier.
"They say he's going to be all right"
Dylan comes in and reports, “Mathew is going to be all right, despite having serious injuries.   He was asleep when I left, but was in considerable pain.
"You did the right thing with the water, Garry"
“Garry did the right thing with all that water – they said it helped a lot.   I talked to the police before leaving the hospital – they’re surprised that an attack like that happened in Cwmderi.
"They wanted to know if Mathew had any enemies"
“They wanted to know if Mathew had any enemies.”
Dani replies that everybody liked Mathew,
"We don't know anything about his private life . . ."
but Garry adds, “There’s no knowing who Mathew’s upset – we don’t know anything about his private life –
". . . do we, Dani?"
“do we, Dan?”   He looks pointedly at her.
Sioned and DJ are back at Penrhewl.
At Penrhewl, Eileen has been waiting for Sioned and DJ to return;
"He'll have scars all down his side"
“He’ll be all right – but he’ll have scars all the way down his side – he’s in a lot of pain, poor dab.”
"He doesn't want us to tell Eifion"
DJ explains that Mathew does not want them to tell Eifion.
"Good – no danger of him turning up, then!"
“Good – there is no danger of him turning up, then!” Eileen rather caustically comments.   Gerwyn and Jaclyn will be informing Tesni.
"Whoever it is – we'll catch them!"
DJ is sure that Mathew will remember more when he gets over the shock, and comes off the drugs;  “But whoever it is – we’ll catch them,” he promises.
Jaclyn is surprised by the front door opening
When the door of number 10 opens, Jaclyn expects it to be Gerwyn, and is dismayed to see Dylan,
"I just wanted to check you were OK"
who says he just wanted to check that she and Guto were OK after what happened.   “It must have been a terrible shock, especially for a young lad like Guto.”
"Don't try to curry favour with me, Dyl!"
She just wants him to go and warns him, “Don’t try to use what happened tonight to curry favour with me – I know you too well!   Please don’t tell me you had something to do with this attack.”
"No, of course I didn't!"
“No, of course not!” he replies,
"Is Mathew one of your 'workers'?"
but she suspects Mathew is one of his workers.   “I don’t deal drugs any more – how many times do I have to tell you?” he insists,
She is anxious to see the back of him
but she simply wants to get rid of him, and so he leaves.
Rhys works out his frustration on the machine
In the gym, Rhys is furiously exercising on the rowing machine;
This attack has seriously affected him
then he stops and looks distraught.
Mathew has been answering some questions
We see a police officer by Mathew’s bedside, who then leaves after asking some questions,
A nurse closes the blinds . . .
and a nurse closes the blinds;
. . . and checks on Mathew's condition
she checks that he is all right, and when she leaves the room,
He picks up his phone . . .
he picks up his phone
. . . records his injuries . . .
 to take a photograph of the accessible part of his injuries;
. . . and weeps bitterly
he weeps bitterly.
