13 August 2025

Sioned has taken the twins for a walk

Sioned, with the pram, arrives back at the farmhouse

She finds Mathew asleep

to find Matthew on the sofa, asleep;  she sits beside him

"That's all right – it's your home too"

and he wakes up, apologising that he did not intend to fall asleep there.   “That’s all right – it’s your home too,” she tells him,

"I've got stuff to finish at APD"

but he replies that he had better go because he has stuff to finish at APD.   He will see her later.

Sioned is worried about him

Sioned looks worried.

Gaynor admires her ring

Gaynor is looking admiringly at her engagement ring when Tom comes into the room;  “I forget about it sometimes and then I get a nice surprise

"Oh, yeah – I'm engaged!"

and I think, “Oh, yeah – I’m engaged!”

He comments that the ring looks good on her and asks if she has heard from Lois yet;

"I've left Lois a message"

“No, but I’ve left her a message, asking her to be a bridesmaid.”

"Are we going to talk about a date"

He wonders if they are going to talk about a date for the wedding;  Gaynor considers that it is a bit late to get married this summer, “But we don’t want to wait until next year, do we?”

"Mulled wine, fur coats"

Tom suggests that they could have a winter wedding;  she cannot believe that he is serious.   “Why not?   Think about it – mulled wine, fur coats, snow perhaps.”

"Rain and wind, more like"

Gaynor predicts that with her luck, it is more like to be rain and wind.   He insists that there is nothing wrong with her luck;

"You get to marry me, don't you?"

“You get to marry me, don’t you?”

A reply from Lois arrives

Then Gaynor’s phone sounds, with a message from Lois.

Kelly is doing some housework . . .

At number 7, Kelly is furiously dusting the keyboard,

. . . and tidying magazines . . .

then tidying some magazines, in the process of which she finds a notebook

. . . when she comes across this

with one of the entries reading, ‘Diane – Power of Attorney’.

"Kelly!"

Anita comes downstairs at that moment to find her looking at the notebook;  “Kelly!” she exclaims.

"Is Diane your power of attorney?"

Kelly immediately demands whether Diane is her power of attorney, but Anita angrily wants to know why she is poking her nose into that notebook.

“It was open and I saw my name,” is the reply,

"That's private!"

but Anita maintains that it is private.

“This is something to help me, when I don’t remember who everyone is,” she goes on, sitting down and clutching the notebook.

"Is Diane your power of attorney?"

Again Kelly asks whether Diane is her power of attorney,

"Yeah!"

with Anita loudly replying, “Yeah!”

“Do you know what?   I don’t believe this, like!”   Anita says she is glad about that, if that is how Kelly is going to respond.

"Why not me – or Ieuan?"

“Why not me – or Ieuan?” she squeals.   It is pointed out that they have enough to do looking after her, without having to worry about the future.

"Worrying about the future is all I do!"

“Auntie Neet, worrying about the future is all I do!” Kelly yells at full volume, “I’m not a child you have to protect – I’m almost 40, for goodness sake!”

"What month is it?"

Anita suddenly gasps, “What month is it?” and is informed that it is August.   “I thought I had forgotten your birthday.”

"That is looming on the horizon"

“No,” Kelly groans, “Because that is looming on the horizon.”   Anita knows that it is going to be a big one this year and Kelly responds, “Don’t remind me.”

"Really?"

When I told that they will have to celebrate, Kelly sits down and sighs, “Really?

"I don't think we've got anything to celebrate"

“I don’t think we’ve got anything to celebrate.”

"We're still here, aren't we?"

Anita maintains that the fact that they are still there is something to celebrate.

"Sorry – we're here to support you"

Kelly, in tears, says that she is sorry;  “You’re right – it’s your business – we’re just here to support you, not to take over.”

"I've texted you a couple of times"

Mathew is now sitting miserably in the Deri when Rhys comes in;  “I’ve texted you a couple of times,” he says,

"I've been busy"

but Matthew answers that he has been busy.   “Gaynor and Tom are engaged,” Rhys continues, “Third time lucky for Gaynor – good luck to them.

Eleri sneaks upstairs

Eleri, who has been hanging around the bar, takes advantage of the absence of staff to quietly slip upstairs.

"Has Melfa been in touch?"

Rhys enquires if Melfa has been in contact with Mathew;

"I don't want to hear her name"

“No – and I don’t want to hear from her,” is the reply, “I don’t want to hear her name, to be honest.”

"You have to talk, Math"

Rhys’ advice is that he has to talk,

"Stop acting like you're my therapist"

but is sternly told, “Please stop acting like you’re my therapist – you have no idea what you’re talking about, all right?” and he promptly walks out of the Deri.

Eleri sets about her search . . .

Meanwhile, upstairs, Eleri looks around the room

. . . looking in various drawers

and opens a few drawers to see if she can locate the gold necklace, evidently without success.

She suddenly hears footsteps coming up the stairs and Hywel’s voice,

She almost forgot her bag

so she has a little choice but to hide behind the sofa, then remembering to grab her bag which she had put on the sofa.

Hywel can see Kath is not there . . .

He can see that Kath is not there,

. . . but something catches his eye

but then notices a pair of high heeled shoes poking out from behind the sofa

"Eleri?"

and says, “Eleri?”   She realises that the game is up and reappears, wondering what he is doing there.

"Why are you hiding on the floor?"

He is more interested in why she is hiding on the floor, but she denies that is what she is doing;

"I was looking for an earring"

she alleges that she was looking for an earring.

Eleri is interested in why he wants to see Kath;  he seems very reluctant to explain,

"You want Kath to buy a plot"

so she comes to the conclusion that he wants Kath to buy a plot around the dam.

"No, I wanted Dyff's number"

He denies this, but adds, “I wanted Dyff’s number in case he was interested.”

"I've got potential clients in London,America, Dubai"

She sneers that he is not being very creative and not casting his net very wide;  “I’ve got potential clients in London, America, Dubai,”

"Oh, very likely!"

but he suspects that she is lying.   She goes on, “And the best you can do is someone who owns a bar in Spain!”

Hywel wishes her good luck looking for that earring,

"Which is in your ear"

“Which is in your ear!” and he leaves the flat.

"What can I do for you?"

Ieuan opens the door of number 7 and declares, “Ah, my favourite brother!   What can I do for you?”

He wants a look at a council database

Hywel has come for a favour;  “The council has a database, containing the county’s landowners and business people.”

"I've got that on my laptop"

Ieuan confirms that he has it on his laptop.    “Could you print out a copy for me?” Hywel asks, “I want to know which of them could buy a plot near the dam.”

"That would be totally inexcusable"

Ieuan cannot believe that he is serious;  “That would be totally inexcusable – I’ve just done a data protection course about this exact scenario – I can’t show you anything!

"Want a cup of tea?"

“Do you want a cup of tea?”

Hywel would prefer a cup of coffee, so Ieuan heads for the kitchen,

"Don't look in that database"

very conspicuously pointing to the laptop and warning, “Don’t look in that database while I’m out there!”

That is exactly what he intends to do

Hywel takes this as an invitation to do just that.   As he is delving into the laptop,

"I said don't look at that data!"

Ieuan asks him what he is doing;  “I said don’t look at the data!”

"I thought it was some kind of hint"

“I thought it was some kind of hint because you walked out,” says Hywel and again his brother stresses that he has just done a data protection course.   “You didn’t learn a lot then!” Hywel snarls and walks out, without having had his coffee,

"I'll find someone else to help me"

commenting that he is going to find someone else to help him.

So it was a refusal from Lois

Obviously, the reply from Lois was not what Gaynor was expecting;  “She hasn’t even tried to get to know you – the wedding would have been the perfect opportunity to do so, wouldn’t it?”

"We have to respect her decision"

Tom replies that if she does not want to be a bridesmaid, they have to respect her decision.

"And let her get away with calling you a 'money-grabber'?"

“And let her get away with calling you a ‘money grabber’?” Gaynor demands.

He does not much care what Lois thinks of him;  it is what Gaynor thinks that is important;

"People are so quick to judge"

“People are so quick to judge, aren’t they?” she continues, “I think we should just go away to get married – far away from everybody.   Abroad – or somewhere that means a lot to both of us.

"What about Plas Hiraethog?"

“What about Plas Hiraethog, near Ruthin?   It’s close to home for both of us, isn’t it?   And the latest refurb is supposed to be incredible – what do you think?”

"It's rather close to Wrexham"

From his expression, Tom is definitely not in favour;  he points out that it is rather close to Wrexham, but she reminds him that Cheryl is in Stoke.   “She wouldn’t dare come and ruin our big day.”

"But what about her friends?"

“But what about her friends?” asks Tom, who then adds, “You’re right – whatever makes you happy.”   Gaynor will make some enquiries.

"I'm just popping out to the shed . . ."

He does not look very happy and tells her to give him a shout when she gets an answer;  “I’m just popping out to the garden to sort out the shed.

". . . I'll make a nice dinner afterwards"

“I’ll make us a nice dinner afterwards.”

He looks back at Gaynor

He pauses by the back door and looks at Gaynor.

"Was that Kelly I heard leaving?"

Anita asks Ieuan, “Was that Kelly I heard leaving just now?”   He realises that she has found out about Diane, and maintains that she is not angry,

"She doesn't want any fuss"

but does not want any fuss on her birthday.

“Oh, everyone says that,” Anita replies, but Ieuan is serious, telling her not to organise anything.

Anita has already arranged things

“It’s too late because Amanda’s going to take a day off work – and we’ve booked the Deri.   I’m determined to enjoy this celebration –

"Make the most of the time I have left"

“make the most of the time I have left.”

"They will love these, Dani"

Dani has gone to Penrhewl to take some of Gabriel’s outgrown toys for the twins;  Sioned predicts that they will love the toys and Dani is glad to get rid of them.

"Are they sleeping better?"

“Are they sleeping better for you?” she asks, as Sioned puts on the kettle,

"Mathew's the one who isn't sleeping"

replying that Mathew is the one who is not sleeping.

"He seemed a bit far away"

Dani saw him earlier in the Deri;  “And he seemed a bit far away.”

"He said he was going to APD"

Sioned is surprised that he was there, as he said he was going to APD, but, of course, he can do as he likes.

Dani wonders if she wants to talk about it;

"I don't know what to say . . ."

“I don’t know what to say,” Sioned begins,

"I'm worried that it's my fault"

“There’s something wrong and I’m worried it’s my fault.   He lost his grandfather recently – but they weren’t that close.”   She tells Dani to forget about it, but she will not do so.

"It's as if he's avoiding me"

“This is going to sound ridiculous, I know, but since he moved back in, it’s as if he’s avoiding me –

"I'm just being paranoid"

“I’m just being paranoid.”

Tom is messing about with a mobile phone

We are given our first glimpse inside Gaynor’s shed (which confirms that Cheryl is no longer there, so she must be under the roses).   Tom is holding a mobile phone, but is disturbed by the arrival of Gaynor.

"I've just had a text from Cheryl"

She reports, “You were right – I’ve just had a text from Cheryl.   I regret saying on Facebook that we’re engaged,” and she shows him her phone.

"A day to remember!"

He reads out the message, feigning surprise, “I hear you’re getting married – if I find out where, I’ll make sure you have a day to remember.”

"We may as well forget Plas Hiraethog"

“Well, we may as well forget about Plas Hiraethog – even if she is in Stoke, her friends will be still around.”   Tom says that he is sorry

"We'll find somewhere safe"

and that they will find somewhere else where they will be safe.

She wonders what he is doing in there and he makes the excuse that he is tidying up,

"Squeaking cupboard doors"

then grabs a can of oil, maintaining some of the kitchen cupboard doors are squeaking.   Gaynor is now    going to the village to get some wine for tonight;  he will make sure the food is ready for when she gets back.

"Why can't people just be happy for us?"

“Why can’t people just be happy for us?” she groans,

"We have each other"

but he points out that they have each other and a wedding to look forward to – whenever it will be.

He makes sure that Cheryl's phone . . .

As soon as she is out of the door, he locks it behind her then takes Cheryl’s phone from his back pocket,

. . . is safely hidden away

turns it off and hides it in a cardboard box at the back of a shelf.

"It's a huge financial opportunity"

Outside the brewery, Eleri is speaking on the phone;  “But it’s a huge financial opportunity,” she tells someone in English, “Imagine opening your luxury spa on the banks of a beautiful lake.”

No joy there, then

Then she realises that the call has been terminated.

"Oh dear – is no-one interested?"

Kelly has been watching intently from the food van as she prepares wraps and comments, “Oh dear – is no one interested? – Gutted!   Where have you been recently, then?   Crashing more carnivals?   Screaming at more children?

"Drowning another village?"

“Drowning another village?”

"I'm actually working"

Eleri snarls that she does not have time for this;  “I’m actually working, not putting lettuce into wraps!”

"Don't knock it until you try it!"

Kelly advises her, “Don’t knock it until you try it!   But then I guess you might not have any disposable income now, after the Quantum Hydro Works carnival that never was!”

"I have enough money for a wrap"

Eleri growls that she has enough money to pay for a wrap and, as she pays contactlessly for it,

"Daddy's not happy, then?"

Kelly continues that she has heard Eleri’s father is back and imagines that he is not happy.

"You know how it is"

“He never is – you know how it is, trying to keep your father happy,” complains Eleri.

"No, I don't, as it happens"

Kelly tells her, “No, I don’t, as it happens.”

"This tastes better than I expected"

Eleri is surprised that the wrap tastes better than she had been expecting.

"I'm getting a bottle to take home"

Gaynor comes into the Deri, where Hywel is drinking his pint;  “I’m getting a bottle of wine to take home, as the shop is closed,”, she informs him.

"Still celebrating the engagement?"

“Still celebrating the engagement then, are you?” he comments,

"I'm not sure what there is to celebrate"

but she is not sure what there is to celebrate, to be honest.   Lois has refused to be bridesmaid and says that she is rushing into things.

“And Cheryl has threatened to come and ruin the day – she’s still managing to interfere in our lives even though she’s not around.”

"What right does she have?"

Hywel does not know what right she has to throw cold water on things.

"Perhaps it's a sign that we're making a mistake"

“Perhaps it’s a sign that we’re making a mistake,” Gaynor suspects, “It’s just one thing after another.

"I deserve to be happy, don't I?"

“I deserve to be happy, don’t I, Hywel?   He agrees that of course she does.

“But after today, I’m not sure if I can do this –

"I don't think I can go ahead with this wedding"

“I don’t think I can go ahead with this wedding.”

Mathew is back at Penrhewl

Matthew arrives back at Penrhewl from work

"Dani brought some toys over"

and Sioned explains that some of Gabriel’s toys have been brought over by Dani.

Mathew avoids touching Sioned

He goes to fill the kettle with water.

"What's wrong, Math?"

“This is ridiculous,” snaps Sioned, “What’s wrong, Math?   You’re dancing around me – you don’t want me to touch you.

"Do you still want to be with me?"

“I have to ask you – do you still want to be with me?   If you don’t want to be with me any more, well . . . oh, forget it!”

He backs her path to the door . . .

She is about to walk out of the room, but Mathew stands in her way,

. . . kisses her . . .

then takes her hand and kisses her, developing into a more passionate clinch,

. . . carries her tot he kitchen table . . .

he picks her up

. . . becoming more passionate . . .

and carries her to the table,

. . . but then

before suddenly stopping.

"Is it me?"

“Is it me?” she demands, “Am I doing something wrong?   Well, what is it, then?

"We can't carry on like this"

“We can’t carry on like this – I can’t carry on with you kissing me like that one minute and then pulling away the next.

"I don't know where I stand any more"

“I don’t know where I stand any more.”

"I'm just tired"

He comes up with the weak excuse that he is just tired,

"Don't give me that nonsense!"

but she shouts, Don’t give me that nonsense – I know you’re hiding something!”   He simply mutters that he is sorry.

"If you're not going to sort your head out . . ."

“I adore you – I really do – but if you’re not going to sort your head out, well, this isn’t going to work.”

He is left alone . . .

She hurries off upstairs, leaving Matthew alone and in a terrible state, as the saucepan bubbles on the hub.

. . . and vents his frustration on the toys

In a fury, he swipes the majority of the toys off the table.
