Ffion is frustrated

Ffion is having some problems with unpacking at Deri Fawr when Howard arrives;

"Just picking ups the last few items"

“I’m just picking up the last few things from the shed,” he tells her and when she asks if he found anything interesting, he says that he did not.

“End of the holidays now,” he adds,

"The children are back next week"

and she regrets that the children are back next week.   “I dreaded the first day back every year,” Howard goes on,

"That's why I stopped going"

“That’s why I stopped going.”

"I'd love to do the same"

Ffion would love to be able to do the same and also wishes that she could could put the new sofa in its place.

They move the sofa

He immediately offers to help, insisting that it is no problem.

"I was going to call in for a word"

Cai meets Dani and Gwern in the street;  “I was going to call in for a word about the start of term next week,” he says, “I’ll e-mail you the list of GCSE Welsh and English books, all right?

"I know how hard it is"

“I know how hard it is to step back in after being away from things, but I want you to know you’ve got nothing to worry about, OK?   We’ll look after you.”

Dani thanks Cai, whereas Gwern does not look at all happy about it;

"We'll sort that uniform out"

she tells him, “Over the weekend we’ll sort that uniform out, yeah?   Right, I have to go –

Gwern looks his usual miserable self

“be a good boy today, please.”

"I've deleted and blocked, like you said"

At APD, Ieuan assures Mathew that he has done as instructed;  “Delete and block – I’m sorry about . . . well, I’m just sorry.”

"We need some more grout"

DJ comes in, requiring some more grout, as there is not enough in the van.

Diane comes in . . .

Diane comes into the shop, carrying a pair of boots;

 . . . with Jason's boots

“I thought someone could use these – they were Jason’s.   There’s nothing wrong with them, size eight.”

"That's your size, isn't it, DJ?"

They are too small for Mathew, but he believes that DJ is that size;

"I don't know, Diane"

DJ is rather hesitant about taking them, but Diane is insistent that someone should have them.

"Have you thought about having a funeral?"

Ieuan intervenes once again;  “Diane, have you thought more about having a funeral?   I know you had a small ceremony as a family, but I thought . . .”

She reminds him that there is no body;

"The family has said goodbye!"

“And, as you said, the family has said goodbye – there is no need for more fuss.”

Ieuan will not desist, but suggests that it is not a fuss, but rather a way for the community to move on.   She makes it very clear, “Everyone who is supposed to say goodbye has done so,”

"I'd better go after her"

turns and walks out of the shop.   DJ says that he will go after her.

"Can you send this off, Dani?"

In the solicitor’s office, Malcolm asks Dani to send off a document;

"There's some paperwork for you"

she has some paperwork ready for him, plus some appointments.   “Can you look for the probate details for the three o’clock meeting?” he asks, but she has already put them in the file.

“And the aggravated assault?” is the next question;

"Wednesday at 2:00pm"

she consults the diary and advises that it is Wednesday at 2:00pm.   “I could have done with you years ago,” he exclaims and she points out that the best things are worth waiting for.   “No, seriously,” he goes on,

"How would you like to sit in on Wednesday?"

“How would you like to sit in on the aggravated assault on Wednesday?   Why not?”

"Really?"

This comes as a complete surprise to Dani.

"I need to sort out the rest of his stuff now"

DJ has followed Diane to the deli, where they sit with cups of coffee;  “I need to sort out the rest of his stuff now,” she says, but DJ tells her that she does not need to do that today;  she has plenty of time.

"I want to get it over with"

“I just want to get it over with, “she sighs, “I could take the clothes to Apêl Maenan, I suppose.   Do you think that’s what he would have wanted.”

"Couldn't Kelly help with that?"

“I have no idea what he would want,” responds DJ, “Couldn’t Kelly help you with that?”

"I heard she's gone back to work"

Diane has heard that she has gone back to work.

"Grief affects everyone differently"

He tells her that it is up to her what she does, as grief affects everybody differently;  “It helps some people to keep busy – I carried on as if nothing had happened when I lost my mother – but I’m not saying that’s the right thing to do either.”

Kath has come in

Kath has just come in

"if you would like a service to remember Jason . . ."

and says, “I’ve been meaning to ask, Diane, if you would like a service, you know, to remember Jason – because you’re welcome to hold it in the Deri.”

"The family has said goodbye"

Diane replies that the family has said goodbye, but thanks Kath for her offer.

"Several people has asked, you know"

“Several people have asked, you know,” Kath adds,

"I don't want to go through all that again!"

but Diane makes it quite clear that she does not want to go through all that again – having a big service just to please everyone else.

Ffion encounters Lleucu

Out in the street, Lleucu is leaning against the fire escape, looking at her phone, when Ffion encounters her;  “Do you want your GCSE results certificate?   I’ve kept it in the office for you.”

"You know I failed English and Business"

“You know that I failed English and Business,” Lleucu groans and does not want Ffion to give her a hard time.

"Don't worry about it"

“We can look at your options for re-sitting – don’t worry about it,” says Ffion,

Gwern passes them

just as Gwern walks past.

"I was going to come over and see you"

“Oh, Gwern, I was going to come over to see you to discuss next week – to talk about your options and other things, like extracurricular clubs.”

"Shut up and leave me alone!"

Gwern very loudly and rudely snarls, “Shut up, OK?   Shut up and leave me alone!”

Ffion is upset and seeks sanctuary . . .

This comes as quite a shock to the two of them;  Ffion walks off along the road where she meets Mathew, who can see that she is very upset and runs after her

. . . at Cysgod y Glyn

all the way back to Cysgod y Glyn.

"What happened, Ffi?"

“What’s happened?” he asks, as she stands there, sobbing;  she apologises that she just had to go somewhere.

"You're not going to let Gwern Monk upset you?"

“You’re not going to let Gwern Monk upset you, are you?

"Don't take any notice of him"

“Ffion, just don’t take any notice.”

"I feel so stupid!"

“I feel so stupid, crying about something like this,” she tells him

She receives a comforting Cwtch

and he hugs her.

"Do you have Dani's phone number?"

In the Deri, Lleucu asks Cassie if she has Dani’s phone number;  “I’ve just seen Gwern shout at Ffion – I should tell Dani, shouldn’t I?

"I don't want him to get suspended before he starts!"

“I don’t want him to get suspended before he starts back!”

"What is wrong with that boy?"

Cassie wonders what is wrong with that boy,

She sends the number

then sends the number to Lleucu’s phone.

"I wanted to show you this as well"

“Oh, I wanted to show you this as well,” Lleucu continues, “I’ve done something for the socials to promote Siôn’s quiz night.”

"Very impressive!"

Cassie is very impressed and is told that Lleucu just needed something to keep her busy this morning.

Cassie will pay her for this publicity for the Deri;

"Would you like to do something like this again?"

“Listen, would you like to do something like this again, if I can find you the work?”

"I'd love that!"

Lleucu would love that and they make a deal.

Ffion tries to fix her make-up

Ffion attempts to repair her mascara and Mathew returns from the deli with two coffees.

"I'm sorry about earlier, Math"

“I’m sorry about earlier,” she says, but he tells her not to apologise for anything like that.   He has left Dani a message, thinking that she should be aware of it.

"I don't know what came over me"

Ffion whimpers, “I can usually deal with kids like that, all day, every day – I don’t know what came over me.   It was just . . .”

"You're going through a lot at the moment, Ffi"

Mathew suggests that it was everything;  “You’re going through a lot at the moment – moving house, going back to work – and the symptoms you’re worried about.”

"It doesn't help that I'm going to see the doctor"

“It doesn't help that I’m going to see the doctor later – the results have arrived.”

Mathew grasps her hand

Mathew grasps her hand, demanding why she did not tell him.

"I didn't want to make a fuss"

I didn’t want to make fuss – I didn’t want to think about it,” she says.

"You let me go on and on about Mam last night"

You let me go on and on about Mam last night,” he protests,

"I want to be there for you as well"

but she also insists that she wants to be there for him, as this is not just a one-way street.   “What do you mean by ‘this’?

"You're talking as if we're a couple or something"

“You’re talking as if we’re a couple or something,” he comments.

"Aren't we?"

“Aren’t we?” Ffion enquires, but he did not think that was what she wanted.   “Perhaps I was a little bit hasty,” she replies.

Dani is typing . . .

Dani is industriously typing in the office when she receives a message alert and looks at her phone with some concern.

. . . when she has news about Gwern

The message from Lleucu reads, ‘Gwern had a ‘ment’ with Ffion.   Thought you should know.’

She is increasingly concerned . . .

Then she listens to the voicemail sent by Mathew;  “Dani, ring me, OK.   I think you and Ffion need to have a chat about Gwern.”

. . . so she immediately goes to see the boss

She rushes straight to Malcolm Edwards’ office;

"A problem's come up with Gwern"

“I’m sorry – a problem’s come up with Gwern.”

"Go – family comes first"

He tells her to go and she can make up the hours next week – family comes first.   She is very grateful.

Cassie comes to Y Felin . . .

Lleucu arrives back at Y Felin, with Cassie,

. . . and shouting can be heard upstairs

and immediately hears Cai, shouting at the top of his voice, upstairs.   “How was keeping that from me going to solve anything, Nesta?   No – I’m his father – you should have told me!   He is what’s important – not you!”

"I think I'll come back another time"

Cassie thinks that it would be wise for her to call in another time and Lleucu thanks her for the lift, as the tirade upstairs reaches its conclusion;  “Right, remember to do that, then – thank you – ta-ra!”

Cai comes down

Cai comes downstairs and discovers that Lleucu is there;

"Why didn't you tell me how unhappy Twm is?"

“Why didn’t you tell me how unhappy Twm is there?   He’s been getting angry and playing up ever since arriving in Dubai.

"Say something!"

“Say something!”

"You're angry after talking to Mam"

“Dad, you’re angry after talking to Mam,” says Lleucu, quite calmly, but he continues.

"He's completely unhappy out there!"

“Not settling, you said – but he’s completely unhappy out there!”

"He'll get used to it"

Lleucu maintains that he will get used to it and that it takes time to settle somewhere new.   “We don’t know that, do we?   “How do you think this makes me feel?   I can’t do anything to help him!”

“Dad, seriously, things aren’t as bad as you think,” Lleucu protests, but her father is determined to make sure of that;  he has instructed her mother to keep in touch more.

"If Twm as much as sneezes, I want to know about it!"

“And you – don’t you hide anything from me from now on!   If Twm as much as sneezes, I want to know about it – understand?”

Off he goes, back upstairs

He stomps off back upstairs.

"Sorry for shouting at Mrs Llywelyn"

Dani locate Gwern in his usual hiding place – the garage.   He simply says, “Sorry for shouting at Ffion – Mrs Llywelyn.”

"I'm worried about you . . ."

“I don’t care about Ffion – I’m worried about you,” she replies,

". . . Gwern, please talk to me"

“Gwern, please talk to me.”

"Everyone's going to know I've been in a Detention Centre"

After a pause, he says that he does not want to go back to school;  “Everyone’s going to know I’ve been in a Detention Centre.”   When she assures him that everything is going to be all right,

"I know it won't be!"

he insists, “There’s no point saying that, because I know it won’t be.”

"Things will get better, day by day"

Dani agrees that it may not be to start with;  “But you’re tough – things will get better, day by day – I promise you that.

"And you're Britt Monk's nephew"

“And you’re Britt Monk’s nephew, which means no-one’s going to mess with you too much.   You deserve to have an education – and you can’t let your past ruin your options.

"I'll come with you on Wednesday"

“Look, what I’ll do is come with you on Wednesday and if you have any problems in school, phone me and I’ll come and get you.   Your first day is a little more important than work, isn’t it?

"Spag Bol or Cottage Pie?"

So, Spag Bol or Cottage Pie for dinner?”

“Spag Bol,” Gwern replies, “But I’ll make it.”   Dani insists that they will make it together,

Is that a smile?

which evokes a rare smile from Gwern.

Cassioe removes the dead flowers

Cassie removes the dead roses from the vase on the bar;  “What a shame – they were pretty, too,” comments Kath,

"Not Cai Rossiter, was it?"

“Where did they come from?   Cai Rossiter, was it?”

"I've got closer to Lleucu"

Cassie makes it clear, “I’ve got closer to Lleucu these last few weeks and he’s grateful – that’s the end of the story, amen!”

“I didn’t say anything, did I?” Kath goes on,

"You have a track record of picking younger ones"

“But you do have a track record of picking younger ones.”

Cassie finds this irritating

Cassie is irritated by this, pointing out, “A – he’s not young and B – there’s nothing going on between us.”

'Cai Rossiter – who would have thought?"

“Well – Cai Rossiter – who would have thought?” smiles Kath,

DJ put the boots on the bar

as DJ walks in and deposits the pair of boots on the bar.

"Diane insisted that I have them"

“They’re Jason’s – Diane insisted that I have them.”

Cassie instructs him to put them on the floor,

"It would be easier of they found a body"

while remarking, “Poor Diane – it would be easier for her to move on if they found a body.”

"We ought to have a service"

Kath is still suggesting that they have a service to remember him, which she considers would help everyone.   “I told her she could have it here, didn’t I, DJ?”

"Can't you talk to Diane again?"

Both she and Ieuan urge DJ to talk to Diane again, to try and make her see sense, but he protests that he has tried.

Lleucu has been baking

Lleucu has been baking and asks her father if he would like a brownie;

"It's not you I'm angry with"

he has calmed down since their last encounter and apologises for it.   “It’s not you I’m angry with.”

"Twm will be OK"

Lleucu appreciates that, but still assures him that Twm will be OK.

"This is lovely"

He finds that the brownies are lovely.

"Cassie's offered me some occasional work"

Lleucu has something else she wants to tell him;  “Cassie’s offered me some occasional work – creating posts and so on for the Deri’s website.   I’ve done one for Siôn’s quiz night.”

"Siôn will love this!"

Cai predicts that Siôn will love this, and Lleucu boasts, “I got twenty quid for doing that!

"While you were upstairs . . . on the phone . . ."

“But she came here earlier to see more of my work . . . while you were upstairs – you know – on the phone!   She didn’t hear very much.”

Cai is disappointed

He looks very disappointed to hear this.

Diane is sorting Jason's clothes

At Bryntirion, Diane is putting Jason’s garments into black sacks when DJ comes back;  “Your father’s cooking a pie tonight, if you want to come over,” she says, “I won’t be long now.”

"You're busy"

He comments that she is busy and she replies that it will be done then –

"Then we can all move on"

and they can all move on.

"I don't think people int the village see it that way"

“I don’t think people in the village see it that way,” he begins and she tells him not to start that all over again.

“Everyone’s asking, that’s all,” he continues, but she is adamant that she does not want to say goodbye again – especially in front of everyone.

"Would you  ind if they organised something themselves?"

“Would you mind if they organised something themselves?   You wouldn’t have to be there,” he enquires.

"I don't want to hear any more about it!"

“They can do what they want – I don’t want to hear any more about it!” she insists.   DJ is about to go upstairs for shower,

Diane breaks down . . .

but as he reaches the foot of the stairs, he can see that Diane is in tears,

. . . so DJ tries to comfort her

so returns to put his arm round her, to comfort her.

"Sorry about what you heard earlier"

Cai comes to see Cassie in the Deri and has brought her some brownies, “To say thank you for giving Lleucu a boost – she is thrilled that she’s got a new little job.   And sorry about what you heard earlier –

". . . I wasn't angry without reason"

“I wasn’t angry without reason, I promise you.   I was worried about my son, Twm.”

"There's no ned to apologise"

Cassie replies that there is no need to apologise, but he goes on, “I’ve been on this journey, you know,

"When the old Cai comes out"

“and I disappoint myself sometimes when the old Cai comes out.   It’s usually when I’m under pressure – probably the start of term.”

She urges him not to be too hard on himself;

"Even a saint like me!"

“We all get angry sometimes – even a saint like me!”

"Is there anything that girl can't do?"

She opens the box, with Kath loitering nearby;  “Is there anything that girl can’t do?” Cassie wonders,

Cassie realises she is being watched

and suddenly becomes aware that Kath is watching.

Cai is selling some stuff from Deri Fawr

The scene shifts to an antique shop, which we understand to be in Newport;  “I heard you were the best at dealing with these kinds of things,” says Howard and the shop owner gives them some close scrutiny.

"I though they might be worth something"

“I thought they might be worth something – they’re very unusual,” he goes on.

"They're not worth more than £70"

He is disappointed when she advises, “They’re not worth more than £70.”

"I can get three times that much!"

He maintains that he can get three times that amount, as they are Welsh gold and suggests £150,

"Final offer – £70!"

but she stresses that £70 is her final offer.

Cai catches sight of someone who seems familiar

He suddenly sees someone carrying in a basket of other items and realises that that he looks very familiar.

"Jason?"

“Jason?” he says with amazement

Yes – it certainly is Jason!

we can see that it is, unmistakably, the supposedly deceased Jason!
