Cheryl is up early |
Cheryl is already drinking a cup of tea when Mark gets up; “You’re up early,” he comments and she says that she was unable to sleep. She is surprised that he is going to work,
"The boss wants to see me" |
but he reports, “The boss wants to see me.”
"What if we peacefully protest?" |
“I’ve been thinking more about this dam – what if we peacefully protest outside the council building?” she proposes; Mark cannot believe that she is serious.
"I'm not going near another protest!" |
He is determined not to go near another protest; he is in trouble as it is.
"I can't just sit back and do nothing, Mark" |
“I can’t just sit back and do nothing, Mark,” she goes on, “I’m happy to voice my opinion peacefully.”
"You're asking for trouble here" |
Mark knows that Hywel said some terrible things, but predicts that she is asking for trouble here. “Why are you shaking your head like that?”
"You sound just like someone I used to know" |
Cheryl replies that he sounds just like someone she used to know.
"Don't compare me to Tom, please" |
“Don’t compare me to Tom, please!” he snarls.
"Don't give me a reason to, then" |
“Don’t give me a reason to, then!” is her reply.
Gwern is skiving again |
Rhys is looking at his laptop in the garage when Gwern arrives again;
"How did the hot date go, then?" |
“How did the hot date go, then?” Rhys is eager to know.
Gwern indulges in some wishful thinking |
“Well, we didn’t get to the cinema, but we did kiss,” boasts Gwern, rather inaccurately;
"Your love life's on the up!" |
he is congratulated by Rhys, who says that his love life is ‘on the up’.
He maintains that Gwern is blushing and is told to shut up; “I’m joking – I’m proud of you!”
"What should I text to her?" |
Gwern wants to know what he should text to her.
"Treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen, boy!" |
Rhys gives his ‘expert’ advice; “Don’t text her at all – let her chase you – ‘treat ’em mean, keep ’em keen’, boy!” Then his phone sounds
"The gorgeous Indeg" |
and he finds, “The gorgeous Indeg – she wants to reschedule the date!”
Gwern was under the impression he was meeting someone else; “Yes, but I’m free on Thursday,” Rhys tells him,
"Don't put all your eggs in one basket" |
“Rule number one in the little black book, right – never put all your eggs in one basket.”
"What's rule number two?" |
Gwern wonders what rule number two is; Rhys will tell him that another time.
"I'll get us lunch, Diane" |
In the Deri, DJ says that he will get them lunch and then take Diane home when she is ready.
"Hiya, Howard" |
Just then Howard walks in
"I'm on my lunch hour" |
and informs them that it is his lunch hour. Then Britt appears;
"Phantom Hydro Works or whatever" |
“Ooh – here she is, swanning around as if nothing has happened! You must have had a tidy backhander from Phantom Hydro Works, or whatever that rotten company is called.”
"Diane is nothing to do with the plans" |
DJ explains that Diane is nothing to do with the plans. “Do you expect me to believe that? You’re the leader of the council –
"You should be ashamed of yourself!" |
“you’ve become a real elitist, Diane, and you should be ashamed of yourself!”
This puts Diane off her food |
Diane has said nothing, but this has put her off her meal and she decides that she needs to make some work calls.
"You stay here for lunch, DJ" |
She tells DJ to stay there for lunch and they will meet up later.
"You were back late last night" |
Sam comes downstairs at Y Felin and wishes Iolo good morning; it is pointed out to him that it is afternoon, but Iolo appreciates that he was back late last night. If he wants breakfast he will have to make it himself; “I’ve got a job in the village.”
"I've been offered a new job" |
Sam asks if he has five minutes; “I’ve been offered a new job – a good one.”
"Drag Race UK, is it?" |
Iolo imagines that ‘Drag Race UK’ have phoned, but Sam continues, “No, but this could be good for my ‘drag’ career.
"An LBGTQ cruise . . ." |
“I’ve been offered a place in an act on a LGBTQ cruise, travelling the world.”
Iolo is surprised to hear this, but then is told that it leaves this weekend;
". . . a six month contract" |
“A six-month contract, initially – but it’s not all bad – I’m really enjoying getting to know you, Iol. Seeing you come out of your shell – I don’t want this to be the end.
"You can come and join me" |
“I’ve got a double cabin, so, if you want to, you can come and join me.”
"They're not happy to be served by a hooligan" |
Kath wants a word with Cassie; “People have been asking whether it’s Cheryl in the videos from the protest last week. They’re not happy that they are being served by a hooligan.”
"I'm surprised she wasn't arrested" |
Cassie cannot understand how she was not arrested for what happened; “She’s the kind of person who upsets people without even trying.”
"She's dragged Mark into trouble as well" |
Kath adds that she has dragged Mark into trouble as well.
"Can you stock the mixers?" |
As Cassie walks away, Kath asks Cheryl to stock the mixers, mostly tonics; “And I want you to change the specials on the tables –
"I'll sort out what the specials are" |
“I’ll go and sort out what they are.”
Another phone left unattended |
Cassie’s phone rings on the bar and as Cheryl looks at it,
"What are you doing?" |
Cassie returns, demanding, “What are you doing?”
On the phone she asks, “Hello – has something happened?
"OK – thanks for phoning" |
“Oh, right, OK – thanks for phoning.” Cheryl is informed that there is no change in Dan’s condition
"I hope he comes round before long" |
and she hopes that he comes round before long.
"He should be working in that hospital`" |
Cassie snarls, “He should be working in that hospital – not in a bed, stuck to machines. I didn’t even get a chance to talk to him.”
"It was an accident, Cassie" |
Cheryl again points out that it was an accident. “Yes, an accident you caused – you brought trouble to the street – are you going to take responsibility for it?”
"I didn't knock Dan over" |
Cheryl reminds her that she did not knock Dan over,
"If you're not going to apologise, you can resign!" |
so she is told, “If you’re not going to apologise, you can resign. You heard me!” This comes as somewhat of a shock to Cheryl, who immediately picks up her bag and walks out,
Kath finds that Cheryl has fled |
just as Kath returns from the kitchen to get Cawl and Veggie Lasagne added to the specials boards.
She leaves the Deri |
Cheryl is coming out of the door as Mark is approaching, advising that he can go back to work,
"What's wrong, Cher?" |
but can see that she is in tears.
"I've been sacked, Mark!" |
“I’ve been sacked, Mark!” she says and he runs along the street after her.
Lleucu approaches Gwern |
Lleucu happens to be passing and sees Gwern;
"Why are you ghosting me?" |
“I’ve been really busy – I’ve got a job . . . well, sort of,” Gwern tells her
"You can't find two minutes to text me?" |
and she is surprised that he cannot find have two minutes to text ‘hello’ back.
As Rhys watches this progress, or lack of it, Gwern points out, “Look, Lleucu, I really like you, but it doesn’t mean I want to go out with you.
"I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket" |
“I’m young and I don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket, OK?”
"Well, it was just a laugh anyway", |
She angrily points out that she is not a hen, but he maintains that she knows what she means. “Well, it was just a laugh, anyway,” she says, disappointedly.
She marches off |
Gwern is glad that they understand each other and she walks away.
"Why am I always the bad guy?" |
In front of the ‘Cofiwch Dryweryn’ graffiti in the back street, Cheryl sobs, “Why am I always the bad guy? You were as complicit as me, but I’m the one losing my job and I’m the one everybody’s staring at!”
"No-one's staring at you" |
When Mark insists that no-one is staring at her, she demands, “I’m making it up, am I?
"Like I made everything up with Dave, too" |
“Like I made everything up with Dave, too.”
"Do you just want revenge?" |
“Is that what all this is about? You want revenge and you’re using this dam as an excuse?”
“Even if it was, could you blame me?” she asks. He does not know the answer, as it is all so complicated.
"He hit me, Mark – more that once" |
“He hit me, Mark – more than once – but somehow I feel like it’s my fault!”
Britt is putting the rubbish out . . . |
Britt has just come out of the back door of MFC to put out the rubbish;
. . . as Cheryl strides away |
she sees Cheryl striding off along the back street
She invites Mark in |
and calls to Mark, “Do you want to come in?” He accepts her invitation.
A customer in the deli . . . |
Some random villager is just leaving the deli
. . . berates Diane |
and snarls, “Traitor!” at Diane, then Howard comes in;
Diane drops her handbag |
Diane gets up and drops her handbag, so Howard retrieves it for her.
"You've been getting a lot of flak" |
She tells him she has had better days, so he urges her to ignore them and sit down. “You’ve been getting a lot of flak for this dam business, haven’t you?” he says.
"I has no idea about it until last week" |
She replies that she had no idea about it until last week, now people seem to think she is part of some conspiracy.
"You've got a lot on your plate" |
He appreciates that she has a lot on her plate with Jason and everything.
"I thought going back to work would help" |
“I thought going back to work would help me with the grief,” she sighs, “Move my mind on a bit – it’s no one’s fault – perhaps one day it won’t hurt as much.”
"Do you think me might still be alive?" |
“Diane,” he begins, “Do you think he might still be alive?”
"He would have come home by now" |
She is quite convinced that if he was still alive, he would have come home by now.
"He might be sacred to come back" |
“He might be scared to come back,” ventures Howard, but she wonders what would scare him.
“Jason hasn’t run away, so why suggest it?” she demands,
"Jason is dead!" |
“He’s dead, Howard – Jason is dead!”
Howard feels very guilty |
She gets up and walks out of the deli.
"Shouldn't you be at school?" |
Ffion comes into the Deri, where Iolo is sitting at a table; “Hello, stranger – shouldn’t you be at school?” he asks. Ffion had a doctor’s appointment, so thought she would drop in for lunch. He has not seen her for quite a long time and she explains, “With the move and everything, I’ve been keeping to myself.
"Arwen loves it" |
“We’re settling in great – Arwen loves it – we should have done it years ago.
"And how is Mathew?" |
“And how is Mathew?” asks Iolo; after a pause, she replies that they are no longer . . . and he apologises for asking. They were not together very long, anyway, but Iolo appreciates that ending any relationship is difficult.
"Even if your heart doesn't agree" |
“But sometimes you have to go with your head, even if your heart doesn’t agree,” she informs him.
Kath has been online |
Kath, who has been looking at her laptop, calls Ffion across;
"Did you see the doctor, then?" |
“Did you see the doctor, then?”
"She discussed putting me on HRT" |
“Yes – she discussed putting me on HRT – but I don’t know if I want to do that,” says Ffion.
"I've been doing a bit of research" |
Kath has been doing some research about it.
"Why don't you have dinner with us?" |
Mark is at the MFC flat, where Britt invites him to have dinner with them; “It won’t be long until Colin is back from the cash-and-carry.”
"I'd like to climb into a hole for a couple of months" |
“Do you know what? I’d like to climb into a hole for a couple of months,” groans Mark. She considers that might not be a bad idea under the circumstances,
"People will forget eventually" |
but urges him not to worry, as people forget these scandals eventually.
"They'll talk about it for years to come" |
“This is different – people will talk about it for years to come – I’m lucky I kept my job,” he stresses,
"And Cheryl did – until she was sacked!" |
“And Cheryl did – until she was sacked!”
"Because of that video, I expect" |
Britt assumes that it was because of the video doing the rounds, but he has not heard of any video. “Haven’t you seen it? You must have been living in a hole!” she gasps, “It’s been shared thousands of times but it was only posted this morning.”
She shows him the video – presumably Lleucu's |
She shows him the video, in which Cheryl’s strident voice can be heard, shouting, “No-one in this village is safe, while you’re free!
"You were always a selfish, underhanded worm!" |
“You were always a selfish, under-handed worm! You and your sort deserve to be lined up!”
"What am I supposed to do, Britt . . ." |
Mark hands back the phone, and demands, “What am I supposed to do, Britt?
". . . I feel like I don't know her any more" |
“I feel like I don’t know her any more.”
"What did you say to Diane?" |
DJ bursts into APD, shouting, “Hey – what did you say to Diane?” Howard swears that he did not say anything.
"I find that hard to believe" |
“Well, I find that very hard to believe – she was upset after talking to you, apparently – what did you say?”
"I wanted to, but I couldn't" |
“Perhaps I should have told her – I wanted to, but I couldn’t. If Diane found out I knew and I’d been keeping it a secret . . .
"Jason is still alive!" |
“Jason is still alive!”
DJ was not expecting that |
DJ is totally stunned.
"I thought it was more dangerous" |
Kath shows Ffion what she has discovered online and had no idea; Ffion on the other hand thought that it was more dangerous.
"There was a risk of breast cancer" |
“I remember people being worried that there was a high risk of breast cancer,” says Kath, “That’s why I never touched them.”
Ffion is not comfortable with the idea |
Ffion acknowledges that there is a risk, adding, “I hate the idea of taking something that my body can’t produce naturally any more.”
She is told that she knows best; “The menopause is different for everybody –
"Do what's best for you, Ffion" |
“so do what’s best for you.”
Ffion is still undecided |
Ffion is still undecided when Cassie comes in,
"This is a long break, Kath" |
remarking that this is a long break,
"Did you go on the HRT, Cassie?" |
so Kath asks her whether she went on the HRT.
“Menopause?” says Cassie, “Goodness, it will be many years before I have to face that.”
They are amused by her reply |
Kath and Ffion both burst out laughing as she continues,
"But when the time comes . . ." |
“But when the time comes, I’ll go to the doctor and take whatever he gives me – as long as it works.”
"Would you like to help, Lleucu?" |
At Y Felin, Iolo is laying the table for a meal and asks Lleucu if she would like to help. As there is no reply, he assumes that there is a problem at school;
"I know how you feel" |
her one word answer is, “Boys” and he knows exactly how she feels.
"Gay men are sensitive" |
“Gay men are different – they understand – they are sensitive. You don’t have to deal with basic, straight boys!” she moans, but Iolo points out that he and Sam have their problems as well.
"He's leaving for six months" |
“We’re solid – for now – but he’s going away on a cruise – he’s leaving for six months, but he has asked me to go with him, so . . .”
"Loads of fit boys, drinking and dancing?" |
“On a gay cruise – and you’re not going? Are you telling me you don’t want to be among loads of fit boys, drinking and dancing with their tops off by a pool?”
"Greta has to come first" |
He agrees that it sounds great, but he cannot, as Greta has to come first.
"I'll look after Greta – for a price!" |
Lleucu immediately volunteers to look after Greta, “For a price!”
"How would you feel if it were your father?" |
Iolo wonders how she would feel if her father dropped everything and went on a cruise for six months – dancing with his top off by a pool.
"Cringe!" |
Her only response is, “Cringe! I admit that I wasn’t happy when Mam went to Dubai, so I understand – pity though –
"How are you going to tell Sam?" |
“how are you going to tell Sam?”
"He wanted to get away to get his head straight" |
Howard is explaining to DJ, “He wanted to get away for a while to get his head straight.”
"How long is he going to stay away?" |
DJ enquires if he said how long he was going to stay away from Cwmderi.
“No – he just made me promise not to tell anyone, but after seeing Diane in such a state, I had to tell someone –
"Now I have to tell Diane" |
“and now I have to tell her.”
"Let me have a word with Jason first" |
DJ is adamant that should not happen; “Let me have a word with Jason first.”
"Diane should be told her son is alive" |
Howard still thinks that Diane should be told that her son is still alive,
"Only when the time is right" |
but DJ insists, “Only when the time is right. Jason might be in trouble – we need to find that out first, but this is a family matter, so I think I better take over from now on. The most important thing we have to do now is make sure we keep this to ourselves – we don’t want the pigs to find out, do we?”
Sam is back . . . |
Sam returns to Y Felin, where Iolo is waiting for him; “Right, Sam, we need to talk; “I can’t see myself drinking and dancing by a pool for six months. I have to put Greta first –
"I have to think about my job and my life here" |
“and I have to think about my job and my life here.”
“I wasn’t inviting you for the whole time,” Sam points out, “I was offering you a holiday.
"You could join me when you're free" |
“We’ll be docking in different countries, so you could come and join me when you’re free.”
Iolo feels a bit of a Charlie |
Iolo realises that he has made a fool of himself, but does not want to lose Sam; neither does Sam want to lose him, and points out that it would not be for ever.
"And then we can pick up again" |
“And when you come home from this job, we can pick up again,” Iolo continues.
They hug each other |
They hug each other.
Mark comes in |
Cheryl is sitting morosely on the sofa when Mark comes in;
"There's some pasta bake left" |
“There’s some pasta bake left if you want it,” she says, but Mark has already had dinner with Britt and Colin.
"I think it would be for the best" |
“They asked if I wanted to go back and stay tonight – and I think it would be for the best,” he says, “I’ll see you.”
Cheryl is devastated |
As he goes out of the door, Cheryl is in floods of tears
