"I had no idea she was drinking"
“I had no idea she was drinking,” says Britt, as she sits at the bar, and Dani remarks that she was certainly not doing it in the Deri;  Britt feels sorry for Arwen.
Jaclyn seems to have no interest in Mathew's condition
When Jaclyn comes in to start her shift, Cassie comments that Mathew is home, but Jaclyn seems to show no interest whatsoever.
"You wouldn't say they were almost family, would you?"
“You wouldn’t say they were almost family, would you?” Cassie continues, “They haven’t told Tesni about Mathew – they don’t want it to affect her revision.”   Britt points out that she will find out one day, and Cassie maintains that they are playing a dangerous game;  “They could lose Tesni after this.”
Dani receives a message from Mathew . . .
Dani receives a text from Mathew, reading, “Hiya, Dani, can you come over?  But please don’t tell anyone.”
. . . which she finds troubling
As she looks concerned about this, Garry comes in with some bottles of drinks, and irritably tells her to put that phone down for two minutes.   She replies that there is no need to snap at her,
"Right, I'm popping out . . ."
and after bringing in one case of bottles, announces that she is popping out.
". . . to get some butter"
He demands where she is going, and she tells him she is getting some butter, as Gwern wants to make cakes, but he is very sceptical of her explanation.
Gaynor and Hywel have bad news for Rhys
At Llwyncelyn, Hywel and Gaynor look at each other, worried,  when they hear Rhys coming in;  he has just returned from a conference, which he describes as boring.   His father tells him to sit down for a moment, then explains that what he has to say is nothing to do with Esther;
"Ffion was arrested yesterday for drink-driving"
“Ffion was arrested yesterday for drink-driving.”
"She doesn't drink"
Rhys is adamant that Ffion does not drink, but Gaynor informs him that she witnessed Ffion being breathalysed, and she tested positive.
"It must have been accidental"
He is sure that she must have accidentally drunk something, but his father laughs at such a suggestion;
"Open your eyes – she's an alcoholic"
“Open your eyes – she’s an alcoholic – they call them ‘functioning alcoholics’.   They can drink all the time and live their lives normally.”
"I did an item about it on CwmFM "
Gaynor cannot believe that she has been drunk all the time, but Hywel says that he learned about it when he did a item on the subject at CwmFM a couple of times;  “I think that’s what’s going on with Ffion.”
"Don't tie yourself to someone with such problems"
Rhys is determined to go and see her, but Hywel protests, “Don’t tie yourself to someone with such problems – you’ve got your whole life ahead of you.”
Rhys does not take his father's advice
Rhys takes no notice of his father’s warning.
"White wine, please"
Ffion comes into the Deri and asks Cassie for a white wine;  she is asked if she is sure.
"Thanks for your concern, but I'm fine"
“Thanks for your concern, but I’m fine – just get me the wine,” is Ffion’s answer,
"I'll take the whole bottle"
then she decides that instead she will have the whole bottle, and pays with her credit card.
"Mr Monk, how about a bunch of roses?"
Colin is outside the shop when Garry approaches, and tries to tempt him with a bunch of roses.   Garry has other things on his mind;
"Did Dani come in to buy butter"
“Have you seen Dani?   Did she come in to buy butter?”   Colin confirms that she did, and Garry makes up some story about being worried because she was not answering her phone;  “And we all need to be careful after what happened to Mathew on Monday.   I haven’t had a chance to go and see him yet – perhaps I’ll go after I have been to the cash and carry,” muses Garry,
"He's upstairs now – with Dani"
and Colin remarks that he could see Mathew now, as he is upstairs – and Dani is there.
Garry regards this as confirmation
Garry is already jumping to conclusions as he goes into the shop.
"You're very lucky, Mathew"
Up in the flat, Dani says that Mathew is very lucky;  “I’ve read so many horror stories about people who are blinded by acid attacks!   They are really . . . you know.”
“You haven’t seen what I look like under the bandages,” he sighs, “Dani, I want to ask you a question – and I want you to be completely honest with me.”
Dani finds this rather ominous
She finds this rather ominous, but he continues, “You used to think I was attractive – or you wouldn’t have slept with me.
"Would you still sleep with me, looking like this?"
“I just want to know, would you still sleep with me, knowing I look like this?   I don’t care what your answer is – I just want to know the truth.”
"Of course I would"
She hesitantly replies, “Of course I would – I’m surprised you had to ask.”
How long has Garry been eavesdropping?
We see that, outside the door, Garry is loitering, and listening to their conversation,
"You're a lovely guy  – you're kind, you're fun"
as she goes on, “Mathew, looks are not everything – you’re a lovely guy – you’re kind, you’re fun.   That is what counts in the end – that’s what makes you attractive.
"You're still good-looking – even with the bandages on"
“But, yes, you’re still good-looking – even with the bandages on.”   Garry has heard enough, and silently leaves.
"Tesni will see that too"
Dani continues, “Tesni will see that too, if that’s what you’re worried about.   Can I be honest with you?
"Perhaps you should stop hassling her so much"
“Perhaps you should stop hassling her so much – stop texting her every minute.   You can be needy, Math – you were like that with me.”
"That was because I liked you so much"
He says that was because he liked her so much, and wonders if she wants to hear something funny;  “Tesni didn’t have any signal – that’s why she wasn’t answering my calls –
"Perhaps you're right – I am a bit needy"
“perhaps you’re right, I am a bit needy.   Sorry for causing problems on Monday night with Garry – I hope I didn’t make things awkward for you.”
"Hearing a few home truths never hurt anyone"
She tells him that hearing a few home truths does not hurt anyone:  “Look after yourself, OK?”   Dani gets up and leaves the flat.
Izzy's card is declined . . .
Kath is working in the shop, but finds when she serves Izzy that her contactless card is declined,
. . . so it looks as if she has a shortage of money – again
and the same thing when she inserts it into the machine and enters her PIN.
“Just write down the amount, and I’ll pay Dad later,” says Izzy, but Kath points out the new stipulation that there is to be no credit.
"But I'm the manager's daughter"
“But I’m the manager’s daughter, so it isn’t credit,” is Izzy’s next comment.
Kath is having none of this, and points out that it cannot be done, stressing that those are Colin’s rules.
Kath keeps possession of the goods . . .
“OK, I’ll go and get some cash, then,” says Izzy, grumpily, but is prevented from taking her purchases with her,
. . . until the payment is forthcoming
as Kath will keep them until she comes back.
"Dad, can we play this game now?"
Up in the Deri flat, Gwern wants to play a game with his father, but Garry replies that he is busy and appears to have a lot on his mind;  “You promised!” Gwern protests,
"Seren's gone to a friend's house to play"
“It’s not fair – Seren’s gone to a friend’s house to play.”
Dani returns, announcing, “I’ve got butter now – are you ready to make cakes for the Easter Fair?”
"Yeah, OK, Dad"
Garry asks Gwern if he will go downstairs for a while;  “I want a private word with Dani before you start cooking.”    When the boy has gone,
"Where have you been, Dan?"
Garry asks Dani where she has been, and is told that she was at the shop.
"Did you go anywhere else?"
“Did you go anywhere else?   Please, just answer the question,” he says.   When she assures him that she did not go anywhere else, he tells her to stop lying;
"To see lover boy – Mathew?"
“You didn’t go over to see lover boy?   Mathew – Colin told me.”
"I popped into see how he was"
She is forced to admit that she popped in there to see how he was, wonders what is the big deal.
"The big deal is that you hid it from me!"
“The big deal, Dan, is that you hid it from me – why?” he growls.   She answers that she was scared of how he would react, after what happened with Mathew in the Deri on Monday.
"There are a lot of things you haven't told me recently"
“It seems there are a lot of things you haven’t told me recently,” he continues,
"Don't act as if I've done something wrong"
but she warns him not to act as if she has done something wrong;  she is sorry for not telling him.
"How long have you been having an affair?"
“How long have you been having an affair?” Garry demands.
This question leaves Dani stunned
Dani is speechless.
Izzy seeks more money to purloin
As there is no one else around in the chippy flat, Izzy is looking for some money, but finds none in the tin on the fridge;  she is about to give up the search
She finds Britt's purse . . .
when she notices Britt’s handbag, and finds several notes in her purse.    It is at that moment Britt walks in and catches her red-handed.
. . . and is caught red-handed
“What are you doing?” she demands, and Izzy maintains that she was about to write a note to say she is borrowing a little cash, as her card does not work.
"That's not a 'little cash' you've got there"
Britt points out that what she is holding is not ‘a little cash’.   “You can put it all back – you can’t go into my purse – that’s money for Aaron’s school trip,” Britt snarls at her.
"Everyone borrows money"
Izzy comments that everyone borrows money,
"You have a habit of going into other people's purses?"
and Britt goes on, “You have a habit of going into people’s purses, do you?”   Izzy is adamant that she is doing nothing wrong – she argues that it is not wrong to borrow money if she intends to pay it back.
The thought suddenly occurs to Britt that she is responsible for the money going missing from the shop, but Izzy denies that.   “I don’t believe you – that time Aaron got the blame, perhaps?” says Britt,
"It was only supposed to be a loan"
but is told that it was only supposed to be a loan, and that Izzy is sorry.
"You're going to be sorry – go and pack your bags!"
“You’re going to be sorry – go and pack your bags!” growls Britt, who will not listen to any protests.
"Do you know how ridiculous this is?"
As she weighs the flour, Dani asks, “Do you have any idea how ridiculous this is?”
"Why else would you pretend you hadn't seen him?"
Garry wonders why else she would pretend she had not not seen Mathew.   “OK, let me get this straight,” she begins, “Just because I saw him once without telling you, you think we’re having an affair.”
Cassie thinks she had better not interrupt
Cassie has just come upstairs, but after hearing what is going on in the flat, decides it wise to go back down, as Dani accuses Garry of being paranoid.
"You told him you would stick with him"
“I heard you tell him you would stick with him, despite his appearance – in the flat earlier,” he informs her, and she is angry that he followed her.
"Lucky I did, so I could hear the truth"
“It’s lucky that I did, so I could hear the truth,” he replies, but Dani tells him that Mathew wanted to know if he was still attractive, and wonders what was she supposed to tell him.   “Why did he want to ask you?” Garry rages.
Dani presumes that he did not know who else to ask;
"Perhaps because we slept together once?"
“Perhaps because we slept together once?”   Garry is convinced that they are in a relationship, but she stresses, “Nothing happened between me and Mathew – just that one night!”
“If there’s nothing going on, why is he acting like you’re altogether?” is Garry’s next question;  she explains that he is in a state and that she has not done anything wrong.   He picks up something and flings it across the room.
The noises from upstairs have caused some interest
At the bottom of the stairs, this commotion has caused some interest, and Gwern wants to go up, but Cassie tells him to go to the bar, and that she will fetch him some chips.
"What's going on up there?"
Jaclyn asks what is going on up there, but Cassie says she does not know.
As they go back into the bar, Ffion is just leaving, and Jaclyn wants to know what Garry was saying about Mathew and Dani;  “Does he think she’s having an affair or something?”   Cassie can never tell what is going through Garry’s mind,
"I know they had a fling some years ago"
but Jaclyn knows that they had a fling some years ago.
"Garry saw something horrific on Monday"
This news comes as a surprise to Cassie, and she advises that they should not put the cart before the horse;  “We have to remember that Garry saw something horrific on Monday – it’s bound to have an effect.”
"I caught her stealing from my purse"
In the chippy flat, Colin is being informed about what happened;  “I caught her stealing money from my purse,” Britt tells him, “And she stole the money from the shop when Aaron was blamed!”   Colin is very shocked by this, but Izzy is still insisting that she borrowed it.
"Why would you want to borrow money?"
“Why would you want to borrow money?” her father asks her, “You earn a decent wage – I don’t know what you do with it.”   Her excuse is that she must have overspent without realising,
"On that new watch, perhaps?"
and when Britt suspects that it may be been on a new watch, Izzy points out that it was a birthday present to herself,
"No-one else gave me a nice present"
as she did not get any nice presents from anyone except Eifion.
Colin protests that he gave her £20 and assumes her mother must have given her a nice present;  “Yes – a scarf!” she sneers.
"I thought we raised you to know better than to steal"
Colin thought that they had raised her to know better than to steal;  she says she is sorry and walks out of the flat.
"Do you want Sioned to bring you one?"
Rhys goes to visit Mathew, who says that Sioned has gone out to get a curry, and offers to text her to get another one, but Rhys refuses.   “Are you glad to be home?” he asks,
"Those injuries don't seem too bad"
and remarks that the injuries on his neck do not seem to be too bad.   He blames himself for Mathew’s injury;  “If only I’d been around that day.”
"I don't want to have to deal with your guilt"
Mathew does not want to have to deal with his guilt as well as everything else.
"You refused a curry – something's wrong"
“What’s wrong with you anyway?” Mathew continues, “You refused a curry – something’s wrong!”   Rhys maintains that his problems are not important, but Mathew urges him, “Dont treat me differently because of the attack.
"Ffion is drinking again!"
Rhys reveals that Ffion is drinking again;  “Or she might have been drinking the whole time.   I haven’t seen her, and I don’t want to – I don’t even know who she is any more.”
"She needs your help, Rhys"
Mathew argues that she needs his help;  “You would have helped me on Monday night, wouldn’t you?”
"OK, I'll go over there"
Rhys agrees that he will go over there, but does not know what to expect;  Mathew is in a similar position.
"Can I stay here a few nights?"
There is a knock at the door and Izzy arrives, asking if she can stay there for a few nights, as she does not know where else to go.
"That's what friends are for – to help each other"
Mathew replies that of course she can;  “That’s what friends are for – to help each other,” a comment aimed at Rhys.
"Don't you listen to anything I tell you?"
Dani has made the cakes, and Garry wants to know where she is going;  “To the Easter Fair,” she replies, “Don’t you listen to anything I tell you?”
"I thought that was a four o'clock"
He was under the impression that was at four o’clock,
"I thought I would call in on Mathew for a quickie on the way"
so she sarcastically goes on, “I thought I would call in on Mathew for a quickie on the way.   “The way you treat me, I might as well have had an affair with him, because you’re intent on punishing me!”
"At least, I would have had some fun!"
Garry’s anger is growing as she continues, “Actually, I regret that I didn’t now – at least I would have had some fun!”
Garry just manages to stop himself . . .
This pushes Garry over the edge, and he only just manages to stop himself hitting her.
. . . although Dani is expecting the blow to fall
She is shocked, and walks out of the flat.
No guesses as to what is in the mug
At Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion is drinking from a mug,
She pours some more wine
which she refills from the wine bottle;  nearby, Arwen is playing with her dolls house.
"Not every little girl gets a present like that"
“You’re lucky, aren’t you?   Not every little girl gets a present like that when it’s not Christmas or her birthday,” says Ffion.
"What do you think will happen to her?"
She picks up one of the dolls;  “This is the one I like – what do you think will happen to her?   I think she’s going to grow up to be a naughty girl –
"She'll tell lies and let everyone down"
“and she’ll always tell lies and let everyone down.
Rhys sounds the buzzer . . .
At that moment Rhys is approaching the door of Cysgod y Glyn, and presses the buzzer;
. . . but is not admitted by Ffion
Ffion goes to find out who it is, and tells Rhys that he cannot come up.
"Is Arwen with you?"
He asks if Arwen is with her, and she replies, “Yes, and there’s no need to worry because she’s safe with me.”
He says that he just wants to come up to talk to her and help her;
"I don't want your help, thanks"
“No – I don’t want your help, thanks,” she informs him, and resumes drinking the wine.
Rhys walks away
He sadly walks away from the door,
Ffion kisses Arwen
and Ffion returns to Arwen, kissing her;
"You love Mam, don't you?"
“You love Mam, don’t you?” she says, and Arwen confirms this.   “Mam loves you too, baby – we’re going to be all right, aren’t we?
Everything does not look all right at the moment
“You and me – everything will be all right.”
