"I'm late for work"

Gaynor comes downstairs and tells Tom that she is late for work;  he notices that she is not wearing her bracelet

"I'm afraid of losing it"

and she says that she is afraid of losing it.

"I didn't buy it to be left in a box"

Showing more of his controlling tendencies, he produces the bracelet and says that she will not do that;  “I didn’t buy it for it to be left in a box,” he stresses.

She finds that the bracelet has now had the addition of a tiny heart;

"Do you like it"

“Do you like it?” he asks, “It may seem like a present a teenager might give, but that’s how you make me feel.   I love you.”

"I really must go to work"

Gaynor says that she would love to stay with him, but she really must go to work.

Diane is sitting in the Deri

Diane is sitting in the window of the deli when Jason passes and happens to notice her;  he comes in to wish her good morning with the good news that Sara phoned this morning;

"I get to spend the day with Ifan"

“I get to spend the day with Ifan – they’re on their way over now.”

His mother asks what plans he has and he intends to go to the cinema first, perhaps and then the park, as the weather is supposed to be nice.

"I'd like to call in and see him"

Diane would like to call in and see him.

"Text first, in case we've gone out"

“Of course – send a text first, in case we’ve gone out,” Jason tells her, “He’d love to see you.”

Diane wonders if this is going to be a permanent arrangement and Jason cannot see why not.   “But Sara hasn’t said anything definite?

"If he starts missing his mother . . . "

“You make sure that Ifan enjoys himself, then – because if he starts missing his mother at all, Sara will think twice about sending him here again,” Diane warns.

"Just a minute, Jason"

Jason is about to give his order to Eileen, who is behind the counter, but she is too busy looking across the road at what Colin is doing.

She is keeping tabs on Colin

She has noticed that he has closed the shop and goes over to remonstrate with him.

"Colin, where are you going?"

“Colin – where are you going?” she demands

"Checking if  Kylie's maths book is in the flat"

and he answers that Kylie has asked him to check if her maths book is in the flat.

"But you've closed the shop"

“But you’ve closed the shop,” she complains,

"Only for a couple of minutes"

but he assures her it will only be for a couple of minutes.

"If you keep closing the shop all the time"

“The customers will go somewhere else if you keep closing the shop all the time!” Eileen moans, so he points out that he does not close the shop ‘all the time’.   He will be two minutes – and she can time him if she likes.

"Do you often close early?"

“Well, I noticed that you closed the shop at 28 minutes past last night – do you often close early?” she drones on.

"I usually spend half an hour clearing up"

He stresses, “It was a minute early last night – and I usually spend half an hour clearing up – that’s not in the working conditions, is it?”   Eileen is sure that it is in there somewhere.

"I want us both to get on – all right?"

“As I’m going to be here now, I want us both to get on – all right?” she smiles,

He returns to the shop

so he retraces his steps back to the shop and Eileen returns to the deli, looking very pleased with herself.

"Tom surprised me again this morning"

Gaynor arrives at the pharmacy just as a customer is leaving and Maya greets her, “Good afternoon!”   Gaynor apologises, explaining that Tom surprised her again this morning;  she shows the bracelet.

"Tom likes surprising you"

“Tom likes surprising you,” Maya comments.

"It's so nice being together"

Gaynor regards it as so nice just being together with him, without anyone having an opinion or trying to come between us.”   Maya gathers that by this she means Cheryl and wonders if there is any further news – whether the police are still searching.

"I'm not sure how much I care"

“I don’t know – and to be honest I’m not sure how much I care either,” Gaynor replies, “I’ve lost enough sleep worrying about a sister who wasn’t my sister.”

"Today is Ifan's and Dadi's special day"

Ifan has indeed arrived at Bryntirion (but there is no sign of Sara).   “Today is Ifan’s and Dadi’s special day, isn’t it?” says Jason, “Do you think after being in the park, we should go and get ice cream?”

It is ruined by the arrival of Diane

This intimate moment is disrupted by the arrival of Diane;  “I heard there was someone special here today!” she announces, and Jason tries to look enthusiastic about her arrival.

"We were just on our way out"

“It’s lucky you caught us, because we were just on our way out,” Jason tells his mother.   She has decided to come with them, but he insists that there is no need for that.

"Well, I'm coming as well"

His mother is adamant that she is coming as well, but she is not happy about ice cream in the middle of winter.

"Sorry, boy"

Jason reluctantly accepts the fact that they are going to be accompanied by Mam-gu.

"I'm glad you're here"

Siôn walks into the deli and says, “I’m glad you’re here.”   Eileen points out that he was glad to leave her last night, but he explains that he was in rather a hurry.

"You were desperate to leave last night"

“You were desperate to leave,” she tells him, to which he argues that he was caught on the back foot,

"I wasn't expecting an offer to stay"

not expecting an offer to stay, so he panicked.

“You’re in danger of creating a bigger hole for yourself here,” warns Eileen, “I know exactly why you didn’t want to stay –

"I'm not throwing myself into this dam campaign"

“it’s because I’m not throwing myself into this dam campaign.”   He maintains that it is nothing to do with the dam, while she does not want politics to come between them.

"I was at fault last night, Eileen"

He confesses that he was at fault last night and should have been more open;  “I should have admitted that I felt nervous instead of just leaving.”

"I'm strong enough to be rejected"

I’m strong enough to be rejected – it wouldn’t be the first time,” she sighs, but he assures her he was not rejecting her;  in fact, he tried to see her again last night, so begs for her forgiveness.

A sad lack of customer service here . . .

In the pharmacy, Llinos is waiting to be served, but Gaynor is engrossed in her phone;

. . . but at last Llinos is served

in the end, Maya has to bring it to her attention that there is a customer.

"You'll have to put your phone on silent . . ."

After Llinos has left, Maya reprimands Gaynor, “I’m sorry to have to ask you this, but you’ll have to put your phone on silent this afternoon –

". . . or leave it in your bag"

“better still, just leave it in your bag.   I’m going for lunch.”

Another text from Tom

As soon as she is out of the room, another message arrives, with a picture of Gaynor and Tom;  while she is looking at it she hears the door open and says that they are closed.

"I've brought you a lovely quiche"

“But I’ve brought you a lovely quiche!” says Tom, “Did you get my messages?”   She answers that she did and that Maya is not very happy with her;  she thinks that Gaynor spends too much time on her phone.

"Miserable cow!"

Tom simply describes her as, “Miserable cow!   Where is she?” and when informed that she has gone for lunch,

He locks up the shop

he locks the shop door and turns the sign to read closed.

"Let's go out the back, then"

“Let’s go out the back then – come on!”

"Hot chocolate is better than ice cream"

Jason and Ifan return to Bryntirion, still accompanied by Diane, who insists, “Hot chocolate is better than ice cream on a day like this, isn’t it, Ivan?”   Then she recommends that Jason should take off the boy’s coat.

"If he wants to wear his coat, let him!"

“If he wants to wear his coat, let him wear his coat!” snaps Jason, so his mother summons him into the kitchen.

"Is this how you're going to be?"

“Is this how you’re going to be?   You don’t spend many days with your son.”

"The problem is you . . . "

He replies, “That’s exactly right – I don’t get very many days with my son – the problem is you!

". . . following us around like a shadow!"

“Today was supposed to be a special day for Ifan and me – but you’ve been following us around like some shadow.

"Any normal grandmother . . ."

“Anyone sensible – any normal grandmother – would know not to hijack the whole thing!”

That stopped Diane in her tracks

He returns to Ifan, asking what he would like to do next, while Diane has well and truly been put in her place.

Colin is busy in the shop . . .

In the shop, Colin is busily pricing items when he hears a loud thud from upstairs,

. . . when he hears strange noises . . .

followed by some rumbling noises.

. . . and goes to investigate

This concerns him, so he goes to the foot of the stairs where he can hear more strange sounds, so he ventures up there to investigate.

Peering round the door . . .

In the flat, there are giggling noises and Colin peers nervously round the door to see what is going on.

. . . he has an immense shock

He finds the ‘in flagranté’ scene before his eyes so horrifying, that he exclaims, “O, mam fach!”  [Literally, ‘Oh, little mother!’ but with a meaning of ‘good grief’ or something like ‘oh my giddy aunt!’]

"What the hell?"

Siôn’s head can be seen in the foreground as he utters the words, “What the hell?”

"Dadi's starting to count now"

Apparently, Ifan and his father are playing hide and seek;  Jason shouts upstairs, “Dadi’s going to start counting now,” then he walks into the kitchen, where his mother is sitting quietly at the table.

"I have no right to come between you"

“You’re right, you know – today is your day.   I have no right to come between you.”

"You're not doing that, Mam"

He assures her that she is not doing that, but she is adamant that she is and should have realised that.

"You and him is what's important"

“What’s between you and him – that’s what’s important – and it never disappears.   You don’t realise that yet, not really.   I’m sorry.”

"Sorry I lost my temper with you"

He admits that he did not mean to lose his temper with her,

"Go and finish your game"

but she still maintains that it was her fault and tells him to go and finish his game.

“Ifan, Dadi’s coming to look for you now – are you ready?” Jason shouts and he runs up the stairs.

"Sorry for being 'ratty' with you this morning"

When Gaynor is about to leave the pharmacy, Maya apologises for being ‘ratty’ with her this morning;  “I’ve forgotten the high of having a new partner – it’s been a while!   I just don’t want you to rush into things.”

“Maya, I am old enough to know what I’m doing, all right?” she replies, as at that moment, Tom comes in again.

"Ready for me to escort you home?"

“Ready for me to escort you home?” he asks

"I left my scarf when we had lunch . . ."

and then admits that he ‘accidentally’ left his scarf in the back room when they had lunch earlier.

Maya would prefer it if Gaynor did not bring guests to eat in the pharmacy,

". . . although we didn't do much eating"

but Tom emphasises that they did not do much eating,

Maya is offended, as he had planned

which does not go down well with Maya.

"Look, I'm very sorry, Eileen"

Eileen goes to the MFC flat to speak to Colin;  “Look, I am very sorry about what happened earlier,” he tells her.

"You had no right"

She insists that he had no right to go up to her home without permission.

He agrees wholeheartedly with this, but stresses, “I did not come up without good reason – I thought you were dying.”   She scoffs at this allegation,

"I thought you were having a heart attack!"

so he explains, “All that heavy breathing – I thought you were having a heart attack – or a stroke, or something.”

"Shut up, Colin!"

She tells him to shut up, but he insists that he was only trying to do the right thing and she cannot blame him for that.

"Don't come up those stairs again!"

“Don’t come up those stairs again without my permission – understand?” she instructs him;

"Yes, guaranteed, Eileen"

he makes it very clear that he can guarantee that will not happen again.

"And forget what you saw"

“And I’d like you to forget what you saw,” she continues.

He agrees that he will try to do that;

"It will be a job, getting that picture out of my head!"

“Mind you, it will be a job getting that picture out of my head!”

It has traumatised him

He looks extremely worried.

"Would you always be willing to take points from my licence?"

Jason and his mother have retired to the Deri, where he brings her a drink;  “Were you serious when you said you would always be willing to take points from my licence?” he asks

"You haven't been caught again?"

and she is afraid that he has been caught again, but he assures her that he is only joking.

"It's my fault"

“I went about things the wrong way,” she maintains, “It’s my fault that the future of this valley is in such danger.”

"No, it's Quantum Hydro Works, Mam"

He cannot understand what she means, pointing out that it is Quantum Hydro Works who are to blame – they have been lying about bringing work into the village.

"I was blackmailed"

“No, it’s more than that,” she goes on, “I was blackmailed – they found out about the points.”   Now Jason understands why she supported the application, but she insists that she is determined to turn things round.

"How will you do that?"

He cannot see how she is going to be able to do that.

"Who blackmailed you?"

“With your help, I hope,” she says, so he enquires who blackmailed her

"It was not him!"

and she replies, “Not him!”

Jason comes to the conclusion that it must have been Eleri;

"Eleri – I knew it!"

“I knew it!” he exclaims.   Diane is at a loss to know how she found out and Jason is adamant that someone ought to talk to her.

"It would be best to leave her alone"

“It would be best to leave her alone – she’s a dangerous woman!” Diane warns him.

“What do you mean, ‘Leave her alone”?

"I'll talk to her"

“I’ll talk to her if you want – I don’t care,” he offers, but Diane cannot see what good that would do.   “It would do me good,” he replies.

She reminds him that getting revenge on Eleri will not make any difference;

"The Cwm is facing a bigger problem than her"

“The Cwm is facing a bigger problem than just her.   If you really want to help me, find a way to stop this dam – or at least show them that we’re not going to let them walk all over us.”

Jason activates his limited brain power

Jason is giving the matter some serious thought.

"Maya was not in a good mood today"

At Llwyncelyn, Tom is preparing dinner while Gaynor has a glass of red wine;  she remarks, “Maya was not in a very good mood today,” a fact that  he had noticed.

"We were very lucky not to get caught"

“At least we got to use her back room,” he smirks, but Gaynor maintains that they were very lucky not to get caught.

"Maya wouldn't know what fun is"

“Being somewhere you’re not supposed to be is half the fun – Maya wouldn’t know what fun is.”

“I think she’d be happier if you didn’t text me quite so often, while I’m at work,” proposes Gaynor, but he alleges that he had important things to tell her – for instance, that he loves her.

"I think I'm falling in love with you"

He kisses her and she believes that she is falling in love with him as well, which he finds quite pleasing.

An alert from the CCTV . . .

Then a message appears on his phone – an alert that movement has been detected on a CCTV camera,

. . . which he finds concerning

which he finds very troubling.

"Why are you so worried about what he saw?"

Now Eileen and Siôn are in the Deri;  “Why are you so worried about what he saw?” Siôn demands and she regards it as not right.   “Are we the problem?   Are you ashamed of me?” he goes on.

"Isn't it time for people to know?"

When she assures him that is not the case, he thinks that it is possibly time that people knew, but she urges him, “Not yet.”   He wonders what they have to hide.

"I'm just not ready yet"

Eileen says that she is just not ready yet, after everything that has happened over the last few months.

Siôn grasps her hand

He points out, “Sioned knows and now Colin knows.”   She naïvely believes that Colin will not tell anyone.

"You're making it sound like we're having an affair"

“You make it sound like we’re having an affair or breaking the law,” Siôn continues, but she urges him to take things slowly, which is all she wants.   “Actually, there is something nice about sharing a secret,” he says.

Then Colin approaches

Then they are disturbed by the arrival of Colin;

"Here you two are again . . . "

“Oh, heavens – here you two are again –

". . . I didn't recognise you with your clothes on!"

“I didn’t recognise you there with your clothes on!”

"Colin!"

Eileen did not appreciate that comment.

Someone approaches the site office . . .

We have an outside view of the site office, where someone is approaching, carrying a can of petrol;

. . . and peers inside . . .

Jason cautiously approaches and peers in through the window.

. . . then opens the insecure window

He manages to open the window quite easily, which is surprising as Tom is supposed to be in charge of security.

He prepares to indulge in a spot of arson

He picks up the can and is about to empty its contents through the window when he is joined by Tom

"You don't want to do that, mate"

who warns, “You don’t want to do that, mate.   I know you’re angry, but my little shed won't make much difference, will it?”

"The company is full of crooks"

Jason snarls that the company is full of crooks, something of which Tom is already well aware,

"You'll be just as bad as them"

but cautions, “You’re just as bad as them if you do something like this – give it here.”

Jason hands over the can

The petrol can is handed over and Jason wonders what he is going to do.   “Well, I should report you – I could arrest you for trespassing, to be honest.”

"You've no proof"

Jason maintains, “You have no proof that I’ve been here,”

"There are cameras all over the site"

but the nearby security camera is pointed out to him and he is told that Tom saw him coming, as he has cameras all over this site.

"I'll delete the footage"

“Isn’t technology wonderful,” he remarks, “I’ll delete the footage, don’t worry, but go home now, all right?”

"Don't forget I've done you a favour . . ."

As Jason sadly trudges away, Tom adds, “Oh, Jason, don’t forget that I’ve done you a favour –

". . . I may need one myself soon"

“I may need one myself soon.”
