DJ nears The Curiosity Shop . . .

DJ walks towards The Curiosity Shop, allegedly in Newport, but actually in Cardiff Road, Barry.

He is greeted by Rosa

He goes inside and asks Rosa, the proprietor,

"Does Jason work here?"

“I just wanted to ask if Jason works here – Jason Francis?”

"Never heard of him"

Her expression immediately changes as she denies that she has ever heard of such a person,

"He may be using a different name"

so he imagines that Jason may be using a different name and shows her a photograph.

"No – I don't know him"

She still insists that she does not know him and, although he does not look totally convinced,

"Tell him DJ is looking for him"

DJ leaves the shop, commenting, “If you do see him, tell him DJ is looking for him.”

Rosa make a phone call

She immediately picks up her phone

DJ walks away

and DJ walks away along Arthur Street.

An envelope has been delivered to Ieuan

At number 7, Ieuan excitedly rushes in, carrying an envelope;  Kelly asks if he is all right.

"Is that for me?"

“Is that for me?” she wants to know and is surprised that Ieuan looks so preoccupied.

"Have you heard from Auntie Neet?"

“Have you heard from Auntie Neet?” is next question.

"Can I have some peace?"

“Can I have some peace?” he snaps.

"All right – keep your knickers on!"

“All right – keep your knickers on!” she exclaims, grabbing her keys and leaving for work.

Hywel receives the message

Ieuan has sent a text message, which arrives on Hywel’s phone;

'The results have arrived'

‘The results have arrived.’   He looks at his phone with fear and trepidation,

He appears to be very flustered

not quite sure what what to do next.

Dani is in the deli, on the phone about a three bedroom house to rent outside Cwmderi;

"Already?"

“Already?   You only put it up this morning!” she complains.

"All right, Dani?"

Jinx comes in, asking if she is all right;

"I don't want to put pressure on you, but . . ."

I don’t want to put pressure on you, but . . .” he begins.

"There is nowhere else!"

“No, I haven’t found anywhere else – because there is nowhere else!” she snarls.   He is sure that there must be somewhere, so she continues, “I thought Rhys had given you a room.”

"I need my own place, Dani"

“Yes, but I need my own place, Dani – I’m not in my 20s any more,” he points out.

"There aren't enough hours in the day!"

She knows that she has to pick Gabriel up and that there are not enough hours in the day, then storms out, leaving Jinx frustrated.

Jason has been tipped off . . .

Jason is walking cautiously along a back street

. . . and is waiting for DJ

when he suddenly comes face-to-face with DJ

"Oi!   What are you doing here?"

demands, “Oi – what are you doing here?   Is there someone else with you?”

"No, I'm alone"

DJ promises that there is not

"What do you want,  DJ?"

and Jason goes on, “You’re off your head, coming to look for me here – what do you want, DJ?”

"I'm here to help you, Jason"

“I’m here to help you – you must believe me,” DJ replies

"We can't talk here"

and is told that they cannot talk there, so Jason leads him away.

Kelly is passing the deli

Kelly approaches the deli, where Jinx surprises her;  “Just the woman I wanted to see!

"Do you have time for a quick chat?"

“Do you have time for a quick chat?”

"Come to the house"

She tells him to come to the house, which is only next door,

They go inside

but just as they go in, Griffiths is approaching with his white envelope.

"Are you sure they're the test results?"

Hywel comes across the road;  “Are you sure those are the test results?”

"They arrived by special delivery"

and it is confirmed that they arrived by special delivery.   Hywel enquires where they are going to open them;

"We can't go to number 7"

he is told that they cannot go to number 7, as Kelly and Jinx are there, so his house is suggested.

“What if Rhys comes back?” says Hywel,

"He'll find out sooner or later"

but Ieuan points out that he will find out sooner or later.   “There might not be anything to tell him – come on!”   They head towards number 21.

"I should have know Howard would open his big mouth"

In a nearby pub, Jason wonders, “What’s wrong with me?   I should have known Howard would open his big mouth.”

"He woa't tell anyone else" —want to bet?

DJ maintains that Howard will not tell anyone else.

"You're wasting your time"

“I’m warning you now, DJ, if you’ve come here to persuade me to come home, you’re wasting your time,” Jason warns.

"I'm here to help you, Jason"

DJ again stresses that he is here to help Jason,

"How's Ifan?"

who asks about Ifan;  “He’s fine, I think.   He’s settling better than expected – under the circumstances.   Your mother, on the other hand . . . well, she has been supported by Dai.   Listen, I didn’t know that things were so difficult for you.”

DJ has some money for Jason

DJ takes out another of those brown envelopes from his pocket and puts it on the table, as he adds, “This situation does give you a bit of freedom – a new chapter – something you haven’t had for a while.”

"Where did you get it?"

Jason looks at the contents of the envelope and asks where he got it.

DJ also has his passport

DJ has also brought his passport and now Jason is definitely looking suspicious.   “The new food van I got has been doing all right –

"I know £1,000 is not a lot"

“I know £1,000 is not a lot, but it’s a little something to get you back on your feet.”

"You must have sold a lot of burgers"

“You must have sold a lot of burgers,” says Jason and is told that DJ has been working his father hard.

DJ is obviously trying to get rid of him

DJ also presents him with a SIM-only phone, so no one can track it.

“Why are you doing this for me?” asks Jason, and DJ rather unconvincingly replies that he was trying to put himself in Jason’s shoes.   After all they are brothers, more or less – he just wants Jason to be happy.

"If you want the money, it's yours"

“So if you want the money, it’s yours,” he says

Jason's suspicions grow

and Jason is now convinced that there is something going on.

"Well, we can['t just stand here"

Hywel and Ieuan stand in the kitchen of number 21, staring at the envelope on the table;  “Well – we can’t just stand here living in ignorance for the rest of our lives!” Ieuan exclaims, “If you’d done the first test test I sent you, we’d know by now!”

"The only reason I'm doing this is . . ."

“I didn’t want to do it then – the only reason I’ve done it now is . . .”

“Rhys and Indeg – I know,” says Ieuan

"I think they've got a date tonight"

Hywel believes that the two of them have a date tonight, but Rhys would not confirm the identity of the lucky girl.

“Why all this delay, then?   Open it, for goodness’ sake!” snarls Ieuan, “Right, if you won’t do it. I will!”

They looks at what it says

Hywel takes the envelope and removes the enclosed sheet pf paper;  they both look at it.

"I'll have to ask you and Griffiths to move out"

In the kitchen at number 7, Jinx informs Kelly, “Dani’s tried and failed to find somewhere else to live – and living under the same roof is not an option – so, Kelly, I’m sorry, I’m afraid I’ll have to ask you and Griffiths to move out – so that Dani and the kids can move back in here.”

"I'm trying to process that"

Kelly laughs, “Sorry, I’m just, you know, trying to process that.

"You mean, like, permanently?"

“When you say ‘move out’ you mean, like, permanently?   Not just until Dani finds somewhere else?”

"It would be a long-term agreement"

He maintains that it would be a long-term arrangement, just to keep things simple;  “Kelly, I know it’s inconvenient, but I have no other choice – I always look after my friends – make sure that everyone else is all right, but for once I have to put myself first.”

"You know, I have to put myself first"

“Yeah, I get it, “sighs Kelly, “The thing is, I have to do that, too, Jinx – you know, I have to put myself first.”

"I can give you two weeks' notice"

He agrees that he can give her a fortnight’s notice to move out;  that should be enough time to find somewhere else to live.

“It’s not going to happen,” she tells him,

"How about three weeks?"

so he suggests three weeks.

"Not going to happen, Jinx – I've signed a contract"

“It’s not going to happen, OK?   Because I’m not moving out – hold your breath, Jinx, OK?   I’ve signed a contract, remember?   So I suggest, unless Dani wants a lawsuit on her hands, that you –

"Think of Plan B"

“I don’t know – perhaps, think of a plan B.”

Dani hears her phone

Dani is walking along the street when there is a message on her phone from Kate from the office;

She is not the first to be molested

‘Sorry that you’ve left – I’m sorry that this has happened to you, too.’

Jinx has just emerged from number 7

She looks up to see Jinx coming out of number 7,

Dani considers her next move

then has another look at the message, apparently working out what she is going to do next.

There is a stunned silence

Inside number 21, the two of them look at each other;

"There must be a mistake"

“There must be a mistake,” says Hywel, as he looks at the document, but Ieuan insists that it is not a mistake.

"You and me – we're brothers!"

“We’re brothers – you and me – we’re brothers!” he says, quite excited, “This calls for a celebration – have you got any bubbles?   Or perhaps we could go to the Deri.   What’s wrong, Hywel?   Aren’t you pleased?   I had my suspicions, you know.”

"I was hoping it wasn't true"

“Suspicions, yes – but I was hoping it wasn’t true,” Hywel replies.   Ieuan reminds him that Brynmor said they were having an affair.

"This changes everything"

“An affair is one thing, but this changes everything I thought I knew about my father and your mother,” says Hywel.

“The two of them lied for years at least my father is my father, but do you realise what this means for you?

"Wyn Griffiths was not your father"

“Wyn Griffiths was not your father – Dan Llywelyn was – my father!   And do you know what?   The swine lived his life in this village without once thinking perhaps you and I should know.

Ieuan is becoming more sympathetic

“Oh no, he went around the place lying to his family and went to his grave without admitting the truth!   What sort of man would do that?

“So, no, you go to the Deri and drink your bubbles – I don’t feel like celebrating –

"I don't know who I am any more !"

“I don’t even know who I am any more.”

Ieuan is getting quite tearful

Ieuan wipes a tear from his eye, but says nothing.

Iolo has a message

In the Deri, Iolo is sitting at the bar when he receives a message, ‘Finished packing’

"Lover boy, is it?"

and Kath assumes that it is from ‘lover boy’.   “Don’t worry – he’ll come back.”

"Unless he finds someone else"

“Unless he finds someone else – he’s bound to – he’ll have too much choice on that ship and the show he’s doing,” whines Iolo.

"Those boys had muscles"

Kath remembers the last show they saw on that cruise;  “The Chippendales themselves might as well have been there – those boys had muscles.   Brynmor didn’t know where to look, poor dab.”

"That is not helping, Kath'

This does not make Iolo feel any better;  “I’m just trying to keep busy,

"A birthday party for Megan – she's 80"

“so I’ve been thinking about organising a birthday party for Megan – she’s 80 this year.”

"I thought she was older than that"

Kath thought she was older than that, but is told by Iolo that there is so much to organise;  “Too much for one person, to be honest –

"I'm hoping to recruit a couple of people"

“so I’m hoping to recruit a couple of people to help me.”

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

“Why are you looking at me like that?” demands Kath.

Hywel is suffering from shock

Hywel sits on the sofa, staring into space;  Ieuan has made a cup of tea.   “Look, I’m sorry about getting angry earlier – it’s not your fault,”

"It changes everything for both of us"

but Ieuan agrees that it changes everything for both of them.

"I never thought it would be positive"

“I never expected the results to come back positive,” Hywel groans, “I’ve just had a heck of a shock, that’s all.”   The way Ieuan looks at it,

"There's nothing we can do about it"

there is nothing they can do about his Mami’s deceit;  she had always been a private woman and he is not surprised that she had a few secrets.

"It's a hell of a secret!"

“It’s a hell of a secret!” exclaims Hywel.   Ieuan has found out several things about her since her death.   “I thought I knew my father – but there we are,” Hywel continues.

"We should look forward to the future"

Ieuan suggests, “The best thing we can do is move on – look forward to the future – and be glad of the fact that at least you and I know the truth at last.”

"I can't believe you're actually happy about this"

Hywel cannot believe that he is actually happy about this, and he admits, “I always wanted a little brother when I was a boy – someone to kick a ball around with – someone to walk to school with.   I would have loved to have found out I had one down the road.”

"I was happy enough being an only child"

Hywel snarls, “I was happy enough being an only child, thank you!”

"How do you want to handle things?"

Ieuan enquires how he wants to handle things;  “By doing nothing,” is Hywel’s reply, “I certainly don’t want to discuss it –

"I don't want anyone to find out!"

“and I don’t want anyone to find out.” (an extremely tall order, from past experience in Cwmderi)

"The only reason I did it was Rhys and Indeg"

“The only reason I did that test was Rhys and Indeg.”

"It's a special birthday, Kath!"

Kath serves another customer, then Iolo continues his pleading;  “It’s a special birthday.”   She cannot help him, whether it is special or not;  she does not know why he is bothering anyway, because Megan is so fussy.

"She makes a fuss about everything"

“She makes a fuss about everything – she’ll complain if the balloons aren’t the right colour and things like that.”

Iolo is sure that she will be happy that her friends have thought about her;

"She's done a lot for the village over the years"

“Please, Kath, Megan’s done a lot for this village over the years – it would be nice if we could give something back for once.   And I hate to think about her celebrating her birthday alone – the only family she’s got is on the other side of the world.”

"What do you want me to do?"

Kath finally capitulates, asking what he wants her to do;  “Would the Deri be willing to do the food?

"Just caviar and foie gras"

“I’m not asking for anything special – just caviar and foie gras.”

"The minute she starts to complain . . ."

“The minute she starts to complain,” Kath insists, “Cassie will have to deal with her – understand?   You’ll want decorations as well, I suppose?”

"It will be on the High Street!"

“No, it won’t be in the Deri – it will be on the High Street!” Iolo announces.

"Like a Jubilee street party?"

“What – like a Jubilee street party?” demands Kath.   Iolo intends to invite the whole village – does Kath think Megan would like that?   “It sounds better than any party I’ve been to,” she tells him.

Now Iolo has overcome that hurdle,

"Megan said she didn't want a party"

he goes on, “The only problem is Megan said she didn’t want a party and she doesn’t like the fuss.”

"Megan Harries, OBE!"

“Doesn’t like the fuss?” sneers Kath, “Listen here – if anyone likes fuss and attention in this place, it’s Megan Harries, OBE!”

"It's a pity I brought the car"

DJ and Jason are still in the pub and still drinking;  “It’s pity I brought the car – I haven’t had a session for a while,” says DJ.

"You'll need to save every penny now"

“You’ll need to save every penny now, probably, until the babies arrive,” Jason tells him, “Enjoy them when they arrive – they grow up so fast.”

"I just wanted to give you the chance"

DJ stresses that he does not have to take the money;  “I just wanted to give you the chance.   I’m not here to tell you what to do – I’m surprised you didn’t get further than Newport.”

Jason returns the passport . . .

Jason picks up the passport and comments, “This would have helped,” then gives it back to DJ.

. . . but pockets the rest

He pockets the money and the phone, however, and DJ tells him to look after himself.

"Look after everyone at home"

“You look after everyone at home, too,” says Jason.

"Ifan is happy with his new family"

“You’re doing the right thing, you know,” DJ adds, “Your mother has moved on – Ifan is happy with his new family – everything’s settled.”

"What new family?"

Jason looks puzzled;  “What new family?” he demands

"I've put my foot in it there, haven't I?"

and DJ realises that he has really put his foot in it.
