Colin is reading the Western Post |
Colin is looking through the Western Post when Britt comes in; “Have you seen my phone?” she asks, and he replies that it is in the lounge.
"Is Garry around?" |
“Is Garry around?” she goes on, and Colin says that he went out early to meet Andrea.
"She's a lovely woman, isn't she?" |
“She’s a lovely woman, isn’t she?” he adds, and Britt agrees, but without any conviction.
"OK – what's the problem, then?" |
“Right, OK – what’s the problem, then?” he wants to know, and she maintains that it is Garry’s problem, not hers;
"She's not the right person for him" |
she just does not think that Andrea is the right person for him.
“I don’t understand – you adored her last week – you went on like a broken record about how nice it was that Garry was happy again,” he points out.
"I can tell these things, Col" |
Britt maintains that Andrea does not suit him, and she can tell these things.
"Would she be if she wasn't HIV positive?" |
“And you think she would suit him if she wasn’t HIV positive?” Colin suggests, but is told that is nothing to do with it. “Do you expect me to believe that? Come on, Britt, talk to me, please – tell me exactly what the problem is, then,” he pleads,
"I've got to go and sort out the fryers" |
but she evasively says she has to go and sort out the fryers.
As she goes downstairs, Colin remarks, “It’s obvious that Andrea’s making Garry very happy –
"It shouldn't be a problem for you either" |
“and if the HIV isn’t a problem for him, it shouldn’t be a problem for you, either.”
Sioned is sending Eileen off to a spa |
Sioned has booked her mother some treatment in a spa to take her mind off things;
"Just turn up, Mam, that's all you have to do" |
“Just turn up, Mam, that’s all you have to do.” DJ tells her to enjoy herself, as she deserves to be pampered.
She wants to change the therapy |
Eileen is considering changing the aromatherapy massage for the hot stones one, as she cannot smell anything.
“I’m sure that you can – hurry up, or you’ll miss your slot!” Sioned encourages her, and when she has gone,
"I thought she'd never leave" |
groans to DJ, “I thought she’d never leave.”
"This is to make her change her mind, is it?" |
DJ has deduced that her big plan is to make her mother change her mind about Cae Glas after being pampered, and Sioned answers that it is worth a try.
"It will take more than a few hot stones to do that!" |
“It will take more than a few hot stones to do that!” he predicts, “You know how stubborn she can be.” Sioned argues that she is doing her best, and suggests that she might listen to DJ, rather than her daughter, begging him to give it a go, as the business is at stake here.
"Please – for me?" |
“Please – for me?” she whines, and as expected, he agrees.
Dani has financial difficulties with Chi a'r Ci |
Wilko comes into the Deri flat, where is Dani is working on the VAT for the salon; “I’ve realised how much the takings have gone down – I hate VAT! Sheryl always did it herself,”
"She was murdered" |
and she explains to the DI that she left the salon to Dani, adding that she was murdered,
This catches his attention |
which attracts his attention.
"Things get worse every month" |
“She’d be gutted to see the mess I’ve made of the place,” Dani growls, “I have to try and persuade myself things will improve, but they get worse every month.” Wilko volunteers to help with the VAT, maintaining that he enjoys doing that sort of thing –
"You're bonkers!" |
something which Dani finds hard to believe and describes him as, “Bonkers!”
Iolo is very preoccupied . . . |
Iolo looks preoccupied as he comes out of the door of number 7 and completely ignores Tesni who is approaching the bookshop;
. . . as he gets into his van |
he gets into his van and drives away.
Siôn is studying a book on fermenting |
Tesni takes the two coffees into Y Winllan where Siôn is studying a book on fermenting.
When Tesni asks if Iolo is OK, Siôn replies that he is probably picking up Tyler from the hospital.
"You were reading that last night" |
She notices that he was reading the same book last night, and he says, “You’ll never believe how much I’ve learned about fermenting – everyone’s stomach and colon are a universe in themselves.
"They strengthen the biome" |
“The beauty of fermented foods is that they are good for you – they strengthen the biome.”
Other things are on Tesni's mind |
All this is lost on Tesni, who has consulted her phone
"I need you on top from, Siôn!" |
and announces, “I just hope you’ve got plenty of strength for tonight – we’re having a night in, and I need you on top form!
He is instructed to be ready |
“So be ready.”
Anita has been sent flowers . . . |
At Bryntirion, flowers have been delivered for Anita,
. . . after her holiday |
bearing a note, ‘Such a wonderful holiday – see you soon’, which she seems very pleased about. The back door opens and Jason comes in;
"We haven't forgotten your birthday, have we?" |
“We haven’t forgotten your birthday, have we?” he gasps, “What are those flowers, then?”
"Mind your own business" |
She tells him to mind his own business.
He informs her that her postcard from Pembrokeshire arrived this morning;
"A pile of bills this tall" |
“It’s at APD, under a great big pile of bills – it’s a shame that things are so quiet at the moment.” She suggests that they will have to put their heads together to attract more work.
“What about the bloke who sent you the flowers? Has he got any jobs?” he enquires,
"What makes you think it was a man?" |
and Anita wonders why he thinks that a man sent them.
"I wasn't born yesterday, Anita" |
“You might not have noticed, but I was not born yesterday,” he tells her.
"Sounds as if you were born in the 18th century" |
“It sounds to me as if you were born in the 18th century – because men aren’t the only ones who send women flowers these days,” she reminds him.
"Mam's talking about ending Cae Glas" |
Sioned is breaking the bad news to Jaclyn, who is taking the washing from the line in the back garden; “Mam’s lost confidence – she’s talking about ending Cae Glas – and without Cae Glas, Penrhewl has no future.
Sioned is pessimistic |
“We won’t get out of this unless Mam changes her mind.”
"Let me help, but I have Gabriel" |
Jaclyn will do what she can to help; “You’ve just admitted that you’re in a pickle, so let me help – the only problem is I’m looking after Gabriel a lot these days.”
"Mam can look after him" |
She is invited to bring the baby with her, and Eileen can look after him; they have little Huwi, anyway.
Andrea and Garry walk, arm in arm |
As Sioned leaves, Garry and Andrea are walking arm in arm along the back street; he invites her to list her three favourite holiday destinations. “Japan, obviously, because of the cosplay and the food, New Zealand – and the Philippines, perhaps,” she answers. He wonders how they compare with Cwmderi.
"Something always draws me back here" |
“Well, there’s something that always draws me back here,” she says, and he cannot imagine what that could be. Then he sees Britt, leaning on the green bin, but she quickly hurries back into the chippy.
The first time we have been here for a long time |
Our first view into the salon for many months sees Kelly talking to Dani; “Mad rush, it is? Fully booked?” jokes Kelly and is told to stop it.
"You look a bit stressed, Dan" |
“You look a bit stressed, Dan.”
"This place isn't paying its way" |
“It’s just this place – it’s not paying its way,” is the reply.
"The best thing I did was to sell the café" |
Kelly now regards it as the best thing she did when she sold the café – she feels so much more relaxed. “Do you think I should sell” asks Dani, but is told that because it was the right thing for Kelly to do does not mean it is the right thing for her.
"Something has to change" |
“But I’m running this place at a loss – something has to change,” Dani wails,
"Use the space in a different way" |
and it is suggested that she uses the space in a different way. “But Sheryl loved this place,” she adds.
"She would be chuffed if you did something that pays" |
“I think Sheryl would be super chuffed if you did something that pays other than selling to the highest bidder – who knows what they’d do to the place?” says Kelly, and Dani thinks she may have a point.
"Internet café?" |
“Internet café?” is the first suggestion,
"Are you still living in 1995?" |
but Dani thinks that she must still be living in 1995. “But you could do loads with this place – you’re smart – you can make a success of this place –
"You need to think outside the box!" |
“you just need to think outside the box, that’s all!”
Britt has just served a customer . . . |
Britt has just served a customer in the chip shop when Garry and Andrea come in through the back door;
. . . when the lovebirds arrive |
“Text me about tomorrow,” he says and Andrea has enjoyed herself again today.
Britt half-heartedly acknowledges Andrea |
As she leaves, she gets a peremptory wave from Britt, who takes her antibacterial spray to treat the table.
"There's no need to do that" |
“There’s no need to do that – I did everything this morning – the place is spotless,” Garry tells her,
"In case Health and Safety visit" |
but she insists that they need to keep the place hygienic in case Health and Safety visit.
Garry knows that something is wrong |
He senses that something is wrong, but she of course insists that there is nothing.
Siôn goes to number 7 . . . |
Siôn arrives at Iolo’s house with some milk and bread, but he finds that his son is not there,
. . . where Tyler is obviously expected |
although there is a ‘Welcome Home’ sign displayed. He puts the milk into the fridge,
He gets out his phone |
then leaves a phone message for Iolo; “I thought you’d be here by now, but I hope everything is all right –
"Give me a call when you get this" |
“give me a call when you get this.”
DJ is doing some research |
DJ is consulting the Welsh NHS website about ‘Treatment for a lost or altered sense of smell’, when Eileen returns from her pampering, which she enjoyed, and he is glad to hear it.
"It was a tonic – just the thing!" |
“It was a tonic – just the thing!” she tells him, and as he goes to make a cup of tea,
"Tha chat with the therapist did me more good" |
she continues, “To be honest with you, the chat with the therapist did me as much good as the massage. Audrey’s had Covid as well – she had it a lot worse than me and had to go to hospital. I’ve realised how lucky I am.”
"Do you feel more positive about Cae Glas?" |
DJ considers this an opportune moment to ask, “Do you feel more positive about carrying on with the business?”
"You'll soon get your confidence back" |
but she does not know about that. He emphasises that it will be a shame to throw it all away; “If you carry on, you’ll soon get your confidence back.”
Eileen is doubtful, but he says that she has not lost all her cooking skills;
"Other people have feelings, too" |
“I don’t want to sound insensitive here – and it’s all right to think of yourself – but other people have feelings, too.”
"Are you saying that I'm selfish?" |
“Are you saying that I’m selfish?” she demands,
"You should think of Sioned as well" |
and he maintains that she should think of Sioned as well.
This seems to have hit home with Eileen |
She ponders on what he has said.
The remote has gone missing – as it does |
Kelly is tidying up at Bryntirion, looking for the remote, and discovers a red sock down the sofa; she wonders where the other one is, and makes some reference to Harry Potter, which Jason cannot understand.
"That's not mine!" |
“That’s not mine!” he insists,
Kelly finds this odd |
and Kelly finds this really odd; at that moment Anita comes downstairs, wearing her coat, about to go somewhere,
Anita says she is meeting a couple of friends |
but at first will not reveal where. Then she comes up with a story about going to the Bull at Llanarthur to meet a couple of old friends.
"Yeah – and I'm JK Rowling!" |
Kelly does not believe the excuse for one moment; “Old friends – yeah – and I’m JK Rowling!”
Kelly lists the evidence |
She summarises the situation, “Item one – the bunch of flowers, item two, the red sock – what are you thinking?”
"Exactly the same as you!" |
Jason replies, “Exactly the same as you!”
"You look more relaxed, Mam" |
Sioned comes into the farmhouse to find her mother looking much more relaxed, and she says she had a lovely time.
"I think e should carry on with Cae Glas" |
“With everything, I feel a lot happier – and I think we should carry on with Cae Glas – I know you’ve been worrying.”
Exactly what Sioned had been hoping for |
Sioned is extremely relieved; “I’m so glad you’ve changed your mind – I’ve been speaking to Jaclyn, and she said she could do a few shifts to take the pressure off you until you feel better.”
"That will suit everyone" |
Eileen concludes that it suits everyone;
Dj is pleased that the scheme worked |
DJ winks at Sioned.
Tesni has made all the arrangements . . . |
At Y Felin, the table is set for a romantic meal and Tesni is looking very optimistic;
. . . and Siôn looks surprised |
Siôn comes in and expresses surprise.
"I hope you enjoy . . .everything!" |
“I’ve made dinner – we just need to put the oven on when we’re ready,” she informs him “I hope you enjoy . . . everything.”
Siôn is worrying about Iolo |
Siôn asks if Iolo has called, and wonders where he and Tyler are; Tesni imagines, “Probably at home with their phones turned off, not wanting to be disturbed –
"I don't want anybody to disturb us, either" |
“and I don’t want anybody to disturb us, either. Do you want to choose the music?”
"Dafydd Iwan?" |
He suggests Dafydd Iwan, [Welsh singer and nationalist politician] but she protests that will not put them into the mood,
Tesni chooses some music |
so she will choose something more suitable.
"Have you heard any more from Tyler?" |
Wilko appears in the Deri flat once more, and asks if Dani has heard any more from Tyler; she checks her phone, but there is no message.
"I'm going to start another business" |
“I had a good chat with Kelly in the salon – I’m going to start another business instead of the salon,” she tells him, but she has no idea what it is going to be;
"It's the right thing to do" |
“nevertheless she insists that it is the right thing to do.
"I'll be there now!" |
Then her phone sounds and she hears some important news from Tyler; “I’ll be there now!” she exclaims, and tells Wilko that she has to go to the hospital,
Wilko is left 'holding the baby', as it were |
apparently leaving him in charge of the children.
"No-one could be bothered to cook tonight" |
Jason has just bought fish and chips from Garry; “No-one could be bothered to cook tonight – Anita’s gone out again.” Garry maintains that she should go out more often, which would mean more business for him.
Who is that, sneaking in the back door? |
Colin is peering in through the back door, and quietly sneaks in for the mop and bucket; “What have you spilled now?” asks Garry,
"Britt wants them" |
and is told that Britt wants them.
"Is she all right?" |
“Is she all right? She she was a bit frantic earlier, scrubbing and spraying everything with anti-bac.”
"Well, you know what she's like" |
“Well, you know what she’s like,” answers Colin, “She wants everything to be perfect – and she is a bit stressed at the moment, but it’s nothing to worry about.”
"Perhaps we should check with the doctor" |
Garry considers that they ought to check with the doctor, just in case, as something is wrong with her. Colin confesses that he has made a mess of things;
"I let the cat out of the bag about the HIV" |
“I let the cat out of the bag to Britt about Andrea’s HIV – and Aaron knows – Britt told him – but they won’t tell anyone!”
"Does Britt have a problem with Andrea being HIV?" |
“Does Britt have a problem with Andrea being HIV?” Garry demands, and Colin dismisses it has just a bit of a shock and nothing to worry about.
“She thinks that Andrea is a lovely girl – and you’re much happier –
"You've been nice lately – for a change!" |
“lots of people have said how nice you’ve been lately – for a change.”
Garry agrees that things are going well between him and Andrea;
"I don't want Britt to complicate things!" |
“I don’t want Britt to complicate things!”
Colin leaves again |
Colin makes a hasty exit with the mop and bucket, just as another customer comes into the shop.
"We should go up, Siôn" |
Tesni proposes that they should go up to the bedroom,
"It's only nine o'clock" |
although Siôn reminds her that it is only nine o’clock;
She unbuttons, ready for action |
“But we’re not going to be sleeping, are we? Siôn, the timing is perfect.”
"But, Tesni . . . " |
Siôn is about to say something, but at that momentthe door suddenly bursts open
A distraught Iolo arrives . . . |
and Iolo rushes in, looking even more helpless than usual,
. . . and sits down in silence |
and sits down without saying a word. His father is very concerned.
